Notability

Hi Matty. Just a quick one with regards to player notability. I couldn't really find anything on the guidelines section with regards to players with U21 appearances. Andi Thanoj of Grimsby Town has made all his first team appearances in the Conference but this week was capped by Albania U21. Is he now a notable person, or does the rules refer to full international caps? Footballgy (talk) 14:28, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi there MATTY, AL "here",

can you help me out please (given you were mightily involved in several of these reports)? I just filed an SPI investigation showing many of his accounts, and two anon IPs i found in Pierre Webó (same pattern of "gluing" the entire storyline and overlinking), it disappeared and i can't find it anywhere. It leads me to here (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Aciyokrocky&redirect=no) and, when i click on the item, nothing of what i did!

Can you please lend a hand mate? Thanks in advance - --AL (talk) 19:37, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Mark Roberts (footballer born 1983) picture

Hi Matty.

Thought I'd ask you for your help on this (have also sent the same message to Jimbo). I uploaded this image File:Stevenageleytonorientmroberts.JPG about an hour ago. Kevin Coleman, who took the picture, gave me permission to use this particular picture (via an email). All of his other pictures on his website have been stamped with his copyright, whereas he sent me the file for this picture via the email. How does this sit on Wikipedia? Do I have to provide evidence of the permission, or will the picture simply be deleted? Thanks in advance. SBFCEdit (talk) 06:15, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Cheers for the quick response. Complicated business this uploading pictures lark, that's why I always try and get you involved! I asked Kevin for the picture to use for Wikipedia and he kindly obliged. The one request he had was for me to put "copyright of Kevin Coleman" underneath the picture, which I guess would not be allowed. So the picture should be deleted. I am going to try and get a snap of Roberts on Tuesday night (on my phone!) and see how that goes. Thanks again for your help. SBFCEdit (talk) 02:06, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Scot Carson

Hi,

Sorry for not putting an explanation on the Scott Carson edit. Basically, when I first went on the page there was something wrong with the birth date so it had an error message on the page.

That was all I intended to alter but there seemed to be a lot of information in the edit which didn't actually show up on the page, so thought it might as well be removed.

Page looks fine to me now anyway.

Veljko Batrović

Hi as you participated in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Veljko Batrović a year ago I thought you should know that I've just declined a G4 on Veljko Batrović and restored the pre AFD edits. Not only is the new article substantially different, but it looks like his career has moved him into our notability zone since the last AFD, with 7 rather than zero top flight appearances. "as of match played [date]"

The problem is that this does not make sense and does not follow the guidlines set out. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football/Archive_72#PC.26NT_updates_in_infobox

With the following quote being of perticular importance:

OK, so can we conclude that we have a consensus about the usage of the pc&ntupdate parameters in the infoboxes? It is obvious that we do have editors that would prefer to have the match date, but most editors use the current date and besides, the template is made in a way that the current day should be used. So, editors should not do in other way (namelly AL), neither should advise other editors to do it that way (diff) and leave them confused? Correct? FkpCascais (talk) 20:28, 21 August 2012 (UTC)'

What's the reason it is being done like this on only a couple of players profiles and not all the others? Pippin0490 (talk) 21:29, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

  • I'm aware of that, but that rule should also indicate that the same should be done for career statistics. I point out again that not only does it not make sense and that 99% of footballer wikipedia pages simply have the date. Adding match played before the date changed nothing, it just makes it read wrong. There is a reason that there is a guidline not to use it in the infobox. The very fact that almost all other footballer pages do not include "match played" should indicate that it is not required.

You mention that it is helpful for users, yet I cannot see any reason why. It doesn't make any difference. If not including the term "match payed" and just using the date in the infobox is good enough to cause the least confusion, then the same should logically be said for career statistics.

Pippin0490 (talk) 23:51, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

A discussion there has already taken place and I have provided this for you and explained why the infobox rules for this should (and are) the same for career stastics. If doubt anybody has been confused about the date format without "match played" being added. It's very simple, stats updated on [date]. Again, this is good enough for the infobox and causes no confusion there, therefore it is good enough for the career statistics.

Pippin0490 (talk) 02:50, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi there MATTY, AL "here",

1 - i think years are irrelevant because what the pic caption must convey is what team is the player appearing for at the time of the image, that's the most important, the rest only adds to box enlargements which are needless in my opinion. The year might appear if the caption was smaller, as in "Sola with Osasuna in 2012", if we write "playing for" or "in action for", then the year(s) are "too many a character".

2 - i'm still confusing myself over that issue, even though we discussed it last year: i thought the first field of PERSONDATA was the article's current name, the "alternative name" field should be another name the article could have. How does it go actually?

Kind regards from Portugal - --AL (talk) 19:18, 9

David Icke

You have changed the caption to a picture here with the logic that he "never played a senior gane for Coventry, so it must be Hereford". This does not necessarily follow. If he played reserve games for Coventry remember that until the relatively recent trend toward playing reserve etc games at training grounds and those of neighbouring minor clubs a wide range of lesser games were played in the main stadium as a matter of course. This would certainly have been true during Icke's career. Britmax (talk) 18:57, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Might be an idea, it is only a caption after all. Maybe replace it with something like "in his playing days" although you can see that in the picture... Britmax (talk) 20:46, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

In César Azpilicueta, a player of that team, found an humungous intro, as big as storyline, written by him, with EVERYTHING (titles won, sum of transfers, minutes he played in debut for Spain, you name it)! I thought that was what storyline and honours section were for. Please compare both intro versions and, if mine is poorer, do reinstate his if you see fit.

  • Hey, Matty

I would like to talk about what has been said by this user. He speaks of the intro where he says "as big as storyline, written by him, with EVERYTHING", unfortunately he lacks the knowledge that an Intro is the INTRODUCTION, a summery of the entire article. And if he does not believe me he can refer to pages such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, etc. I can go on with examples of articles that have an intro summarising the article. These articles have not been written by me. If AL has a problem with those intro's he can direct his opinion to the many other whom have edited those pages. However, if you compare that and still say that AL is correct do continue using his version.

  • Also, sent a message to User:Falastur2 regarding this sock vandal, did not receive as much as one word in reply. --AL (talk) 15:11, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
  • More about Navas' transfer (a doubt now): i thought it was official whenever either party involved confirmed the deal, Sevilla has done so, why is it not official in your oppinion? Cheers --AL (talk) 17:09, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
  • Mr.Falastur was not happy about my M.O mentioning him here, i have already sent a sincere apology to his page, it was never my intention to upset him. Cheers --AL (talk) 20:55, 4 June 2013 (UTC)

What did I do wrong?

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

Hi there!

I was just wandering why you reverted my edits to the talk page on Emile Heskey. I am sorry If I have done something wrong.

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

Hello! Now, some of you might be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:
  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with, the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

Pre-close congrats

Well done Matty, it's a matter of minutes before you get the tools (I'd do it myself but... well you can see why that would be inappropriate). I'm so sorry that you had to suffer the offshoots of the various odd and dubious accusations, hopefully that will be curtailed in future, but you deserve the mop, you're most certainly a net gain, none of the opposition offered real credible evidence (besides getting involved in more controversial AFDs, perhaps something you'd consider?). As soon as another 'crat passes by, enjoy the mop, feel free to ping me if you need any assistance in the early days! My very best to you, The Rambling Man (talk) 19:55, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

Just be careful with the tools and I'm sure you'll make the most of the extra features. If you maintain your good reputation then adminship will indeed be no big deal. NintendoFan (Talk, Contribs) 20:15, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
It literally is no big deal. Just go careful and no-one can moan (although I'm sure some will try...) The Rambling Man (talk) 20:17, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

Your request for the administrative toolset…

…has demonstrated that a consensus exists among responding members of the English Wikipedia project that you are trusted with access. Congratulations! Now AfD is thataway -->. -- Avi (talk) 21:20, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

Your uniform. Wear it with pride!

Congratulations

and well deserved. Just don't let it go to your head ;-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 21:23, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

Kudos on the adminship and the t-shirt, as Struway said well deserved. ★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★ 23:29, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
Congratulations! --j⚛e deckertalk 00:06, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
  • Congratulations from sunny Portugal, keep up the stupendous work, always within the WP guidelines, not like "someone we all know". Cheers mate! --AL (talk) 02:00, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Montenegrin sock vandal

Watch how he goes at it gluing everything in Carlo Ancelotti (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Carlo_Ancelotti&diff=558689587&oldid=558687450). OF COURSE i rolledback. The investigation has come to a stall, apparently, and you filed your original report one week ago if i'm not mistaken.

Have a great weekend, "see" you --AL (talk) 11:27, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

  • Sure enough, the revamped version of this vandal "undid" me. Well, i did the same. --AL (talk) 14:20, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
I will have a look at it after dinner, then try and issue a proper WP warning to him. It won't do any good though, ALL of the other socks were duly warned and offered guidance, what did he do? --AL (talk) 15:38, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
  • No man (i mean "Mr.man", you're an admin now :)), the other investigations went great, i mean just this one, you filed your report one week ago, no one has offered one word in feedback as of today. Sorry for the misunderstanding, i have sent the vandal a message now. --AL (talk) 20:07, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
  • Message sent (i think i did it well and was not "wiki-hysterical", level 1 warning - and surprise, surprise, had TWINKLE already installed, just never noticed it, silly me), he continues to revert me in a Fenerbahçe season article. I am getting close to 3RR, please step in. --AL (talk) 20:22, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Reverts

Hi, many thanks for all the reverts from IP that reverted several of my edits. It is the IP who mangles the footballers timestamps, getting their own back for me correcting them. Keith D (talk) 18:57, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

Challenge

Hi there MATTY,

In an unrelated matter (to what i'll ask of thee in this message that is), the Montenegrin sock has been blocked, he won't stop but at least we'll make him sweat. Now, for the challenge i offer you as a newfound administrator: think you can "refresh" the protection at Iago Aspas? Since the move to Liverpool has been confirmed, the vandalism does not stop, those Everton kids saying how much they hate Liverpool, "lovely". My (heated, but i don't really care - if an admin chooses to block me instead of the VANDALS i won't budge, i'm a big boy and i know how the WP guidelines go well enough to say otherwise - i'm absolutely seething!) last summary there will show exactly what they have been destroying in the last "contributions", i already reverted it (for now).

Cheers, keep it up --AL (talk) 20:38, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the protection. I know i exaggerated greatly, but i'm calmer now. For the football matters: i know for sure he has left Celta, so he must have signed for Liverpool (true, i visited 'Pool's site, no confirmation yet). I also know for sure the VANDALS removed the ref speaking about the possible deal, without one word in summary, then replaced it with "Aspas is crazy about joining the Reds, the glory days are coming", you know the style.

Cheers back --AL (talk) 21:17, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

  • Still on Aspas (as i've seen a recurrent action there today): i thought we were discouraged from using TRANSFERMARKT.com as an external link, per its (non)reliability, but it's not valid as a ref either (in the statistics charts for example)? Pretty soon, of course, someone will embrace the WP:NONENGEL rule and remove that other link in Spanish, leaving just BDFUTBOL.com, then another user will think BDFUTBOL.com is better as a reference for the stats chart and boom! External links section EMPTY. Please enlighten me. --AL (talk) 15:50, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Intro hullaballoo

A technicality here: i know that, as far as transfers are concerned, we are not supposed to change the club a player a represents until 1 JULY, even though the move has been made official by all parties and announced in reliable sources (blows my mind in ways you can't imagine). I don't think that, if a player plays for club X but will FOR SURE move to club Y in July, WP would immerse itself in any legal trouble if his intro read "...who plays for Y in...".

But, since we have (i have too) to respect that, my approach is: take Jesús Navas' case, if it's so "wrong" to say in intro he plays for Man.City when HE DOES, can't we have "...who plays for Sevilla", then write from 1 July "...who plays for Manchester City in..."? Why should we have that incredible mix "...who plays for Sevilla but will play for City in July"?

I think here comes another "no-no" reaction to my suggestions (not from you mate, i mean it overall, my suggestions don't tend to be accepted, even the "mildest"), but i wish you a great weekend still. Cheers --AL (talk) 14:23, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

  • Sorry to bother you, it was not my intention. I guess i should not have said before hand "you will disagree with me" without waiting for a reply, that was not correct i'll admit it. --AL (talk) 20:47, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
  • Your suggestion is exactly what i'm trying to "discourage" man, how about the more simple "Plays for Sevilla" (in Navas' case), corrected to "Plays for Manchester City" from 1 July onwards? --AL (talk) 21:12, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Kettings

Hello. He joined on loan on 26 August 2011, according to the FA registrations, a youth loan seems likely. He played at least once for our under-18s, per this report of a match played on 24 September. Hope this helps, cheers, Struway2 (talk) 18:47, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Might well be more detail than you need, but he started all five under-18 league matches during his loan spell at BCFC (assuming the 1 October return date is correct, which seems likely as he didn't play in that day's U18 match). Sourced to this match programme: {{cite book |title=Blues News |date=28 April 2012 |editor=Lewis, Peter |publisher=Birmingham City F.C |page=27}} cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:31, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Soccerbase

Just wanted to point out that Soccerbase is not wholly reliable for Scottish Football stats in First division and lower and really need double checked. Using Soccerway tends to be more so, not that ive looked for errors in your recent updates but thought id warn you about it. Been burnt a lot by there stats as have several others.Blethering Scot 21:37, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

GA review of 2012–13 York City F.C. season

I've just completed a GA review of 2012–13 York City F.C. season. The article is currently on hold waiting for some minor adjustments. If you could take a look at the review, that'd be great. Thanks. ScoobyHugh (talk) 13:03, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Caretaker managers in Managers Template

Hello mate, could you please provide your opinion on including caretaker managers like Brian Kidd in the Club Managers template on Template talk:Manchester City F.C. managers#Brian_Kidd. I am trying to build consensus and your input is invaluable. Thanks. JMHamo (talk) 20:18, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Yetton

I wasn't aware that infobox stats were required to be individually sourced. I can source them using the programmes I used, but there are approximately 400. Bretonbanquet (talk) 21:55, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I can certainly do something like that. Give me a day or two and I'll add something along those lines. Feel free to tidy it up afterwards. Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:20, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
I've added quite a bit there, hopefully it's enough. I managed to find online references for the loan spell at Weymouth, his time at Tiverton, and the loan spell at Ivybridge. I've referenced Weymouth and Ivybridge in the text, but it can be added to the references section as well if necessary. The Tivvy stats had included cup games, so I've deducted those from the total in the infobox. The Truro stats were handily rounded up in the last home programme of the season just past, which featured a running tally of first team stats. Any problems, let me know, cheers, Bretonbanquet (talk) 14:08, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Your notification to IP about unconstructive editing

I noticed that you gave an unconstructive edit notification for this. While it's unsourced and should be removed, I don't think that it's vandalism. Instead of using a generic unconstructive edit warning in this case, since I don't think it's clear vandalism like writing random characters or changing dates contrary to what a source says, would you please use more a more specific statement to the IP editor such as saying that you removed unsourced information and linking to a relevant sourcing policy? I've given a similar request to User:DavidLeighEllis‎‎ asking that he be more specific in his warnings and saying that I disagree with the original unconstructive edit warning in this case. Thanks, --Pine 07:12, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Page move request

Hi. Can you please move this page Robert Visoiu to Robert Vișoiu? Thank you. It has no Romanian diacritics. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kronaveter (talkcontribs) 17:54, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Hello, Mattythewhite. You have new messages at Talk:Richard Cresswell/GA1.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Double assistance

If you please MATTY: 1 - one anon "user" continues to add false positions in Luis Alberto Romero, completely DESTROYING the wikilinks in the process; 2 - could you please have a look and/or input something at my last WP:SPI investigation (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Antony1821) and WP:FOOTY report (here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Technicalities)? Both, as strangely habitual, have received ZERO words in feedback after several hours.

Kind regards from Portugal, happy weekend - --AL (talk) 00:42, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

And watch how the main account, ANTONY1821, mocks us all in his talkpage (here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Antony1821&diff=prev&oldid=455088435), "lovely". --AL (talk) 01:25, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

Free Agent in currentclub

Hi Matty, just want to run something by you. Do you agree that in July when a player has no club, the currentclub parameter in Infobox should be left blank and not have Free Agent? If so, could you please look at Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz. I am trying to avoid an edit war with an IP that wants to include free agent in currentclub all the time. Could you make the change and I'll write on their Talk page too. Thanks. JMHamo (talk) 18:26, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Simon Mignolet

Hello Matty, could you please protect Simon Mignolet for a week. Thanks. JMHamo (talk) 23:38, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

Bits and pieces

Hi there MATTY, AL "speaking",

without further ado: 1 - Francisco Pavón, something fishy i bet is afoot (as User:Struway2 once very well put it, "I've assumed enough good faith" or something to the effect), as User:DarraghQQ replaced the picture of the player with someone which is NOT THE PLAYER (maybe him?); 2 - in Stefano Borgonovo, finally resting in peace after years of suffering for him and his family, i removed a great chunk of info because what was that "info"? VERBATIM excerpts of his book, about 20, 30 lines, and the ref is "ghostly". I think only a small passage (those 4,5 lines) is enough, did i do well?

Regards, happy weekend - --AL (talk) 01:08, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
