Please do not remove other Wiki users additions to an article. Wiki is a public resource and not your private property.

I am entitled to place a link to an external information source if it adds something to the subject in question. How would you like it if I removed information that you had published on a page?

Torres categories

Hi there. I suspect that the user who removed the categories from the Torres article was trying to simplify the article. For example, if Torres is an 'expat spanish footballer in england' then he must be 'expat spanish footballer', so the latter cat is removed as the lower level category is a child of it. See Wikipedia:Categorization#Some_general_guidelines for more. I'm not going to revert it straight off, as it is a guideline rather than policy, but I think it may be useful to review them in order to keep the categories useful, especially if we want to get this to FA. Cheers. Ged UK (talk) 14:39, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Photos

Interesting question. I suspect it may not be allowed, but have never yet seen anyone prevented from doing it. Probably if you were using a camcorder or something with a long lens, where there was a possibility of you producing work to compete with the official club or press photographers, they'd stop you, but I can't imagine there being any problem with using an ordinary camera. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:01, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Agreed - I've put in a request over at WT:WPF. Qwghlm (talk) 21:15, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

York City

Hi there, I've seen your name around but never noticed your work on York City articles. Not a fan of the team myself but just want to say well done for all the hard work. Take care. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 09:53, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Can you do me a favour - Eightball (talk · contribs) keeps deleting valid squad info from the page. Could you do me a favour and revert his edits as you have in the past? If I do so again I run the risk of violating WP:3RR. Thanks. Qwghlm (talk) 07:52, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Sunderland

Cheers mate, nice to have someone take notice. Cheers again. Sunderland06 (talk) 14:58, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Francis Laurent

Hi Matty, I'm trying to research the notability of Francis Laurent. He doesn't have an article yet, but I briefly started one in my sandbox, until I can verify if he meets the criteria. Would you be about to check his stats at playerhistory.com to see if he's made an appearance in the 2. Fußball-Bundesliga. So far I've found this source, but I'm not too sure on it's verifiability. Cheers, --Jimbo[online] 13:49, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Nice one! Cheers, --Jimbo[online] 13:56, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Jamie Stuart

I'm pretty sure he played when it was the NGXI, sometime between 2004 and 2006. So far all I can find is this that confirms he was in the squad. --Jimbo[online] 21:25, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Done. Although, having had a look at The FA's site, it looks like he must have pulled out of the squad as he didn't play or even make the bench! --Jimbo[online] 21:58, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Playerhistory.com

Hi! Could you check the club history of Owusu Afriyie at Playerhistory.com? Thanks, Punkmorten (talk) 08:48, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for checking him out. Could you take a look at Nana Eshun as well? Thanks, Punkmorten (talk) 11:42, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

FLC followup

Hi there Matty, could I trouble you to revisit the FLC of Aston Villa F.C. statistics and records? The date thing has been done by a script and the centre alignment has been done. The only thing outstanding is the Runners up and record by location. I am not seeing the need for a record by location section, not really that informative, but Struway has also asked for the runners up. Regards. Woody (talk) 16:46, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Update: added in runners up now, seeing as how you both asked for it. Regards. Woody (talk) 18:20, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Chris Thompson

Hi, I guess I should have checked before removing the redlinks in Barrow's article. There's so many dodgy redlinks around it's unreal - suppose I should assume good faith and all that. Anyways, I've created both articles now, but was unsure on Chris Thompson's clubs / career stats - seems to be a bit here and there. Would you be able to do the usual check with whats down on playerhistory. Cheers Matty, --Jimbo[online] 21:31, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Wow. Never knew that or that that page existed. I reckon if that's the case, the page should be moved to Jamie Waite, and his playername should be Jamie Waite. Peanut4 (talk) 17:40, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Barça

I changed ttwo flags of Spain for flags of Catalonia in the article about Barça. Both chairman and trainer are catalan. What's the problem on putting catalan flags? Don't you put an England flag near the chairman of York City team??? Why is "legal" to put welsh, scottish and english flags and "ilegal" to put catalan ones??? Do you know something about Catalonia, do you know its laws define Catalonia as a nation??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.151.229.133 (talk) 21:52, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

MCFC

Well, I 'll be there myself (season ticket holder), though I rarely have a camera as I tend to be too emotionally involved for photography :) . Between Commons and Flickr most aspects of the ground have decent free photos. Depends on whether you'd be able to get decent photos of players during the warm-up - there isn't much opportunity to accost players as they enter the ground, as the road where team coaches arrive goes into a tunnel underneath the stand. Hey, I've done my best with the GA review here Talk:Curtis Woodhouse/GA1. You may be better placed than me to expand the Hull section, I wonder if there might be a source for him leaving so soon, but other than that I've no idea what else to add to such a short stay. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:58, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Emile Heskey under GA review

Hi there, I see that you are a primary contributor to the article Emile Heskey. This article has come under review for Good article reassessment as part of GA Sweeps and a number of problems have been identified which are listed on the talk page. Please begin to address these points in the next seven days or the article will be delisted from GA and will have to go through the WP:GAN process all over again to regain its status once improvements have been made. If you have any questions, please drop me a line.--Jackyd101 (talk) 13:04, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

That was really weird; I was making just general improvements but then I noticed the Heskey GAR and everything I added seemed to solve the issues raised. How very odd! Sillyfolkboy (talk) 00:26, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Playerhistory

Hi Matt, if you still have access to playerhistory, could you possibly spare the time to see what they have for Geoff Horsfield's early career, up to/including Halifax Town 1996-97. Sources for non-league players that long ago are few and far between, and mostly contradictory. thanks, Struway2 (talk) 10:43, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

That's absolutely brilliant, thank you, and fits quite nicely with what I'd got from elsewhere. The Guiseley and Witton dashes represent apps and the figures are goals scored, presumably, and in league matches, seeing as the other figures are? Don't suppose it says whether he joined Witton in 1995 or 1996? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:13, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Nordtveit

The reason he's not down on the UEFA list is that you have to be in the youth system of your club's country for 2 full seasons to be on the "B" list and he doesn't satisfy that condition, having joined Arsenal from a Norwegian side in 2007. But his number has been allocated thus - it's fairly easy to work them out as the numbers 33-55 were all allocated in alphabetical order. I'm fairly sure it was 45 in pre-season as well. Worth adding in the Soccerbase ref just to be sure tho'. Qwghlm (talk) 14:49, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Squad lists.

I noticed John Bostock and Dorian Dervite, they should be removed. If an academy or reserve player is only going to get one or two games a season they aren't first team. We have them on the reserve and academy article already. However if they play more game and are played regularly, then they become first team on merit, but at the moment they haven't one the honour should we shouldn't show the honour. Proposed deletion of Dave Martin (footballer born 1963)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Dave Martin (footballer born 1963), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

does this even meet stub article status?

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

I'm still astonished

How much energy have you put on York City articles. In my opinion, the amount of articles and information we have about York City is way over the top (the articles are not so encyclopedic, as they include too many esoteric details, but I still appreciate your work and anyway my voice wouldn't count around here ever... HaGamal 20:00, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

If I may add a comment, I don't think the amount of York City info is over the top, it is bang on. It merely highlights that the info on many other teams needs bringing up to scratch. --Jameboy (talk) 12:59, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
I would like to back Jameboy on this one, many of our higher league clubs need to take a lesson from the York pages. Congratulations to Matty on the work bringing York to Featured Topic status. Keith D (talk) 13:17, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Bill Richardson

I've created Bill Richardson (footballer), but I don't think it is the one at User:Mattythewhite/York City F.C., as "mine" didn't play for York City as far as I can tell. So you may need to disambiguate "yours" as and when you create the article. Just to add to the confusion there is also Richardson's West Bromwich Albion teammate William "Ginger" Richardson (commonly known as W. G. Richardson) and an Irish player, Billy Richardson. If you plan to create yours sometime soon, or if you think the disambiguation could be improved, please could you let me know. Jameboy (talk) 00:42, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Christian Smith

Hi again. According to an issue of the Clyde View and SFA suspension lists, he doesn't have a middle name. I'll try to dig out the issue later and reference it. He also made an appearance in this game, which soccerbase didn't include in his stats. Cheers Ck12 (talk) 15:06, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for the late reply, been busy recently and didn't have time to respond. The Clyde View had a weekly profile feature on players which had information like you would find in an infobox, then a short description of players. It included the middle name of any player that had one, but just listed Smith as Christian Smith, so I assumed that was his full name. Is there an English version of the Scottish League Review that would give us the answer? Cheers Ck12 (talk) 00:51, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Eastbourne Borough Vs York

Hi there, will you be venturing down south to this game next Saturday? How fans are York likely to bring down? Hoping it will be a good game. Good work on the York information, i've been doing the Eastbourne Borough one for a few months now. EddersGTI (talk) 03:37, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

I will be attending the game. I have taken some photos of the ground which is here, although I am still in the process of trying to take some good ones of the players. The ones I am after are not playing or on the wrong part of the pitch to photo.
I have been updating the Eastbourne Borough page as well as the current season as often as I can. To be honest I have based the current season on your York season as it is clear and to the point. Although at the end of the season I have have a big tidy up. After all its Eastbourne's first season in the Conference ever.
Not much info is available on them before 1983 and I have not seen a book published on them. They are quite a young club, being formed in 1964. EddersGTI (talk) 23:40, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Sam Black

Hey man, could you possibly check your copy of Michael Joyce's Football League Players' Records 1888-1939 for a Newton Heath player called Sam Black. He never played in the Football League for Newton Heath, but I think he may have done for Burton Wanderers. Any chance you could confirm this for me? Cheers. – PeeJay 01:06, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Looks like I won't be creating an article for him then :-( – PeeJay 09:00, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the Sky Sports Football Yearbook for this season includes neither full names nor info on Wrexham or York City players. I had a look in the PFA Footballers' Who's Who for this season too, but he wasn't playing in England last season so he's not in there either. – PeeJay 10:08, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure about the Sky Sports/Rothmans yearbooks, but I think that all of the PFA Who's Who books contain full names, based on my experience with the ones from the last two seasons. But of course there's no need to get any PFA Who's Who books from before 2005 if you have Barry Hugman's book of Football League player records from 1946 to 2005. – PeeJay 20:09, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
