Bits and pieces

1 - Hmmmm... remember our intro-approaches discussion last week? Ovinod said "I'll work in those intros asap", not only has he not done that as of today (three days i believe since he replied) but also my/your message concerning that has been summarily removed from his page. Like i said, screw it, he can write bugger all to replace what he has removed or (for example) "Rui Patrício was voted Robocop of the century in the last eight World Cups" for all i care, completely gutted by this.

2 - Speaking of feeling gutted, was about to write another WP:FOOTY report but then visited the community page to find out ZERO replies to my last have been written ONE WEEK later (Ovinod does not count because i already knew his opinion), wonderful! So, i'll report to you directly: User:Royroydeb has started creating a new category, LIGA I FOOTBALLERS, when LIGA I PLAYERS (100% the same) already exists, care to communicate with him (he'll be notified of this of course, since i highlighted his name)?

Cheers, happy week --AL (talk) 23:00, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

  • In regards to AL's comment, when I meant ASAP, it clearly wasn't quick enough for him. It may mean a few hours, or 2/3 days, but clearly he's in a hurry, something surprising for someone who's leaving in 12 days. Anyways I have been bombarded with work and final exams these past few days hence why I haven't managed to accomplish what I promised. Also I am free to remove any content from my talk page, especially after we came to an agreement. Funny how he mentioned I removed your/his messages from my talk page, after all, he did the same with mine from his page.

Regards, --Ovinod (talk) 05:48, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

  • I clearly have jumped to conclusions about #1, i have already presented my sincere apologies to Mr.Ovinod, hopefully he'll accept them. --AL (talk) 11:57, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

More on item #1: i have seen two intros constructed by Ovinod, Hugo Almeida and Rui Patrício: to avoid my so-called repetitions he engaged in detail which should not be present in an intro, and also used nicknames in the text ("Quinas" being the nickname for the Portuguese team), which is completely wrong for an intro in my (and WP's i wager) opinion. I could not resist it and also contributed/cleaned (mind you Ovinod and Matty, i did not REMOVE anything like it was done previously to me, i COMPOSED), if i am reverted again now i give you both my word of honour as a (non)scout, i stay put. But please Matty, compare both versions.

Note: Ovinod has been notified of this follow-up on his page, like i should have done the first time around. --AL (talk) 15:09, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

Naming conventions

Hi, thanks for letting me know about the naming conventions on WP:NCPDAB. Upon looking into this matter further, there appears to be thousands of articles which incorrectly do not use the comma. I have changed a few of these but as I do all my edits manually this is very time consuming. I was wondering if you knew any automated editing tools which could make this task easier. Regarding this message i have received (please see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Always_Learning#Protect), what's your intake on it? I keep advising the Romanian guy to direct his queries to WP:FOOTY, but he always lands on my page.

Yeah, but I won't be here on the Wikipedia forever and I suppose that there will be at least one unregistered user that will ruin the pages at one point, and besides me and one other guy there is no one else looking up for these pages. If you still think they shouldn't be protected, I'm ok with it. 8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 15:57, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

Doubt / Updates

1 - if no one can prove that Daniel Guerrero Gómez has played in the Hong Kong First Division League (TRANSFERMARKT.com, not only it is not reliable but even if it was it does not contain any data on that, or did not last time i checked it; SOCCERWAY.com, which i just added, also does not have anything), this article must be deleted right?

2 - have you had time to compare both intro versions regarding the Portuguese players yet? I feel like Ovinod has summarily decided to cease all conversation with me like soooooooooooo many users, makes me sad to end on that note but what can i do?

Happy Sunday --AL (talk) 01:30, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

Ah, and when i asked "Do you have any proof Guardado will stay with Leverkusen?", received no reply of course. Seven days to go... --AL (talk) 04:04, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

More: 1 - checked FOOTBALLDATABASE.EU, it shows him playing for Kitchee but with blanks in the games/goals fields; 2 - thanks for having a look. But what i meant was looking at those AND mine previous, and see why they merited to be summarily removed; 3 - my thoughts too (loan return), but what i meant is why did i merit to be insulted? --AL (talk) 16:37, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

  • Still regarding #2 (i commented on that with you, but never asked a direct question), and later will convey your response (YES or NO suffices) to Ovinod: If i create intros for players that are "word for word similar" (with the exception of the tournaments and the national teams of course), if it is done in my words like WP asks of us is it a wrong edit like Ovinod says it is (it's not repetitive if it's in DIFFERENT articles methinks)? I fail to see where.

Reply / Other thoughts

1 - Regarding Juanfran (footballer, born 1985), game was annulled by FIFA. He did play and score, but stats do not count now, it's all in reference #20 (in Spanish, but it's A.O.K reliability-wise). Speaking of article, i see you've "met" User:Mateka9911, does not write one summary/PC update and, per his page, has had his share of warnings...

2 - What's your intake of José Luis Gómez Pérez's tag being changed by a fellow user? Were you notified of that?

3 - Still in honours and Snowman's approach, i'm trying not to be utterly nonplussed but it's difficult, Jordi Alba SCORES in the UEFA Euro 2012 Final and, since the honour was not referenced in the prose, it was removed? If you look into the current version of the article, i've browsed the web for some refs and will add some more today, but some wiki-rules are very difficult to understand (this meaning i never doubt Snowman's better judgement, he's just enforcing the rules, i am just saying some rules are W-R-O-N-G!).

Attentively (P.S. my abandonment of the project may take a little more than originally expected, i'm trying to remove TRANSFERMARKT.com in all (or most) of the Spanish/Portuguese footballers and replace it with SOCCERWAY.com, i'll notify you when i'm "ready"). --AL (talk) 23:09, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

Getting beyond ridiculous now, he moved Bruno Pereirinha's page to "Pereirinha", it would be like moving Wayne Rooney's page to "Rooney", or Barack Obama's to "Obama". Ah, please note that Pereirinha is not a nickname, it's his REAL surname.

José Luis Gómez Pérez and other Lglukgl additions

Hi Matty, MYS "here".

I was talking to AL about the user mentioned above (he also created the page mentioned), and I have some questions to you:

1: José Luis Gómez Pérez isn't fully pro, but some other user removed the "nominated for deletion" template from him, arguing that he passes WP:GNG. However, he doesn't pass the WP:FOOTY, and he should be removed (I think).

2: Can we do something with this guy (Lglukgl)? He returned after a break, and is still doing some wrong edits, creating poor pages and all we told you before. After reading to WP:CIR, I'll not help this guy anymore, but I'll watch his contributions anyway, just to be sure that his additions will only "survive" if they are decent enough. Also, I told AL that he seems to be searching the whole WP for another poor page who wasn't created by him and point some errors (just like: "Look, the guy made a mistake!" or "The English of this page is as poor as mine!"). I think he's trying to justify his errors by pointing others, and I don't like it.

Thanks for your help, MYS77 18:23, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

Searching for photos

Hey, Mattythewhite. Is there a page where I can request photos of footballers? I really need photos for the players of my favorite team, FC Petrolul Ploiești, it's one of the best teams in Romania right now and I think that at least the important players should have photos. Most of the Romanian sport sites have the "all rights reserved", so I can't find any free-license photos. I would need the help of an expert. 8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 12:06, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

Blocking conditions

Hey Matty, how are you?

What conditions allows us to block an user? Vandalism is one of them, of course, but there's other conditions?

After reading WP:BLOCK, I saw some things that Lglukgl do that fills the criteria (overlinking, disruptive edits) and these two verses: "Blocks should be used to encourage a more productive, congenial editing style within community norms" and "persistent posts of unreferenced, poorly or incorrectly referenced, or potentially defamatory information about living persons" fill perfectly into his errors. And also, we've already started the blocking process in my opinion, we've warned him more than once.

Thanks, MYS77 01:38, 15 July 2014 (UTC)

  • Speaking from the "wikidead": you should definitely have another go at Snowman and his summary removal of honours, even if sourced in the prose, last victim was Adrián López Álvarez, four or five were ref'd in the storyline but he removed them nonetheless, as the international goals (in this case "goal") chart, his goal against Serbia was ref'd ONE LINE above the chart, he could not care less.

No need to reply me, "reply" him for WP's improvement. I repeat, maybe a consensus was reached that said honours needed to be directly sourced in the due section (thus Snowman is only enforcing it), but this needs to be changed no? YOU are an administrator too and you say there is no harm in ref'ing honours in the storyline alone, something does not add up coherence-wise.

Regards, AL --84.90.219.128 (talk) 20:56, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

  • My oversight, apologies to GS in order. Yes, now he has the custom of adding a tag, he removed them altogether in the past (but the international goal for Mr. Álvarez he did not tag, he removed, and it was ref'd in prose). Thanks for your help overall, and thank you GS as well. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 22:44, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Hey, I'm here again bothering you. Dunno why you didn't replied me, but that's ok. About the user above, he's still doing disruptive edits, and recently pointed his errors as my fault(?). I'll transcript his phrase below:
Hello Mys Yesterday you said go to sleeep so i made incomplete edit yesterday but tomorrow i will have complete these edits.
I know the WPlivescore but that match was orrible (Gremio-Goias) so the automatic score for a BAD BAD BAD match was 0-0. I added the result at the 80 minute.I told you once that i 'm a sudemerican football fan but that match was ORRIBLE.
On Portuguesa i haven't done vandalism or distr.edits i 've added the correct result + report + correct information. Ah is not Portuguesa - Ponte Preta it is Ponte Preta - Portuguesa. Ah in the future i will create AGAIN Passo Das Emas Stadium.
Also, Passo das Emas' discussion was pretty clear about merging, and I'm still trying to figure it out what's ORRIBLE (maybe is another language, I sincerely don't know but AL and I used to call this ANGLISH). Thanks, MYS77 01:18, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
Ah, and just to complement, it's not the first time he disrespects WP:LIVESCORES, I've already warned him but it seems it's better for him to point his errors as my fault. Thanks, MYS77 02:02, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

3 (extra) - i'm having quite the run-in with Mr.Fixed regarding intros, so my question is (and i'll later convey your answer to his page, without no hellos and no goodbyes): is "Always Learning is a Portuguese footballer who plays for S.L. He thinks it is not (instead of it he writes "...is a X footballer who plays as a central defender for Y") and, if the player is a foreigner (i.e. Luisão), adds "Luisão is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a central defender for Portuguese club Benfica". Isn't obvious Benfica (and the rest) is a club? Couldn't we write "...who plays for Benfica in Portugal as a central defender"?

This (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Juanmi_(footballer,_born_1993)&diff=615431987&oldid=614955858)! --AL (talk) 00:12, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

Bits and pieces

(don't forget to look up, to the message titled "Unworthy contents / moves", i also wrote new stuff there) 1 - mind boggling! I thought we were not supposed to write divisions of clubs in intros, and after what i saw Struway2 (a user beyond all doubt, i vouch for that) do in Vitorino Antunes i really don't know, what gives?

2 - did i do alright stopping this guy in this tracks (please see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:88.98.48.3) in Fabrice Olinga? Not the first time he writes unencyclopedical stuff (origins of nickname) in several African players, even if ref'd. If you, reading his last version, think it's encyclopedical, then forgive my overzealous approach and reinstate the "goodies" please.

3 - vandalism rampant in Licá, don't know why (Portuguese obscure player, never harmed a soul), but some idiots who also must hate F.C. Porto (sound familiar man?) keep screwing his page, and now they (they? he?) have stepped up their game. Human garbage, pure and simple. --AL (talk) 01:03, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

Cheers --AL (talk) 00:51, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

  • And another two mails. --AL (talk) 03:19, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

And this page move (Hallelujah, not YUCHENG48 now, but also without one word of explanation)? Fernando (footballer)?! Mate, i think from Spain and Portugal alone we will find 10/20 footballers with WP article. --AL (talk) 16:53, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

When you return from (hopefully it's only that) your wiki-break, please refer to Snowman to ask him about my reasons to leave forever (or visit WP:FOOTY, the discussion titled "Sergio Busquets and Míchel Salgado", for more "fun"). Nice to know you, bye and kindest of regards --AL (talk) 19:07, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Glad you returned, do you have any thoughts on this message and the previous one? Please reply here, and be cryptic when required (the mails situation), i don't want to enter WP as reader (it's very radical and idiotic of me to have said that i would never even do that) and find insults on my anon take page.

Other than that it's goodbye, have a nice one wikiwise or not! --84.90.219.128 (talk) 14:40, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Yucheng48 messaged. The division was already present in that article, but you'd need to ask Struway directly for their reasoning. Agree with your removal at Olinga and I've watchlisted it, same with Licá. I've not been online much this week so sorry for being out of the loop, if there's something I've missed please contact me again. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:01, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the swift reply. You only missed the situation about our mail exchange, which resulted in a user being blocked, did you (and your joint investigations) reach any conclusions on whether the account and the anon IPs were the same?

As i'm out of the project, my doubt stems from sheer curiosity. Oh, and by the way, about the "Sergio Busquets and Michel Salgado" WP:FOOTY discussion, the blocked guy returned TODAY and was handed an harsher block whilst the other two main "offenders" were not, still refuses to acknowledge any responsibility and instead continues to complain about wiki-bullying by posses and cliques.

Cheers --84.90.219.128 (talk) 23:44, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

I also have been trying to get someone to convey to that blocked user (PANHEAD2014) that i have nothing against him personally, the run-in i had with him was just the last straw, it was HIGH TIME to leave because i was really stressed out (i have to acknowledge it had to be as much my fault as the others'). Have been trying that because if i wrote it myself he would accuse me (again) of harassment, but still to no avail, none of the people contacted think it would do any good. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 23:54, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, due to being so busy I didn't ask the other users, but I see Fixed4u has been indef blocked anyway. And the João Mário situation is sorted now, I think. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:16, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Grammar help

Back, but now "really back": Matty, i'm working these days, translating a book from English (proper, not US) to Portuguese. Piece is about 400 pages long, and i'm doing pretty well after starting last Sunday (was?), but now i'm stuck, browsed the web like crazy (including a site that contains links to the Oxford Dictionary if i'm not mistaken!) and found nothing...

Can you please tell me, in a nutshell, what does the idiom "Scuffed at the edges" mean? For further help, although most likely you won't need it, it refers to the city of London (being "genteel and scuffed at..."). Thank you very much in advance, keep it up here, there and everywhere! --84.90.219.128 (talk) 05:28, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

P.S. I know this is not the place for this, if you can't help me i totally understand. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 05:31, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

  • Thanks a million! Ah, so sorry to have misled you with my original message (takes only ONE LETTER to do so), i meant to say "Back, but NOT really back", not "Back, but NOW really back", as in "only returned to ask you this favour, i'm still away from editing". This project i'm undertaking has nothing to do with WP, it's a paid thing, i was in dire need of that as a longterm unemployed person.

Thanks again. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:21, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

  • Sorry to insist, but am having trouble with grasping the full concept of "well lived-in city". Does it mean you want to live there, does it mean the city has its allure? Also if you take the adverb "slightly" and use it in both of the definitions, it makes zero sense in my humble non-English opinion (i.e. "This city is slightly good for living"). --84.90.219.128 (talk) 20:56, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Got it, "well-used habitat", now i've seen the light, kudos to you! --84.90.219.128 (talk) 21:15, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Southport FC

You edited-out my addition of the 2014/5 players squad numbers that were released by the club yesterday. I am all for strong academic discipline in publication, and I very much appreciate the work that editors do, but what useful function have you achieved? Redrobe fan (talk) 17:36, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your response. Not everything on Wiki, nor any other publication is referenced. The writer and editor must use their discretion appropriately. I do not see why a citation is necessary for a non-league football team's shirt numbers. Redrobe fan (talk) 11:47, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Lost in translation

Again, my dear wikifriend, i repeat: if you think this is too much (you're not my servant and this is not the field to do this, this is an encyclopedia which, in your ("our" until recently) case, deals with football articles in WP), please decline or redirect me to someone(thing) else.

Another problem which i could not solve: when a movie is "playing second feature" in a cinema, what do they mean? Thanks in advance, sorry to bother you again. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:44, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

  • Sure thing! "He noticed that Cliff Richard’s Summer Holiday was playing second feature at a drive-in in St Louis." --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:57, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Evidence of Lampard to Man city on loan

The Independent

Sport > Football > Transfers Manchester City transfer news: Frank Lampard heads to Etihad as pre-New York City FC stopgap

Former Chelsea midfielder likely to join Manuel Pellegrini's champions in time for the Community Shield match with Arsenal at Wembley next Sunday IAN HERBERT Author Biography , STEVE BRENNER Friday 01 August 2014

79 PRINT A A A Frank Lampard is to join Manchester City on a six-month loan deal and will be included in the side's Champions League and Premier League squads, raising the prospect of him featuring in the attempt to retain the title.

The former Chelsea midfielder has already agreed to join City’s MLS team - New York City FC - but since they will not begin their inaugural season until next March, the Etihad has provided a mutually convenient stop-gap. Lampard's primary motive is to maintain his fitness until the MLS pre-season in mid January but he could be particularly invaluable to Manuel Pellegrini in the Champions League.

Because City failed the Financial Fair Play test, they have a restricted 21-man Champions League squad, in which they must include five homegrown players. There must be eight homegrown in their Premier League squad, with James Milner yet to commit to the new contract City want him to sign.

City sources indicated on Friday night that there are no guarantees Lampard will figure prominently in Pellegrini's plans for the new campaign but City's need to boost their own quota of English players does make it a possibility. Manuel Pellegrini’s side face Chelsea on Sunday, September 21.

Lampard has been actively looking for somewhere to maintain his fitness before New York City FC's inception in the US and having rejected the chance to join Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan's other newly acquired team in Melbourne, the 36 year-old is likely to join Manuel Pellegrini's champions in time for the Community Shield match with Arsenal at Wembley next Sunday.

Another benefit for Lampard is that he will remain in the view of England manager Roy Hodgson. He has yet to announce his international retirement.

City are in Minneapolis ahead of Saturday’s Guinness International Champions Cup game with Olympiakos and , even if they reach Monday’s final in Miami, will return to England on Tuesday. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Albert Hawking The Ultimate (talkcontribs) 20:50, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

S'land Squad

Hello there mate, if you look at Sunderlands pre season games in some (Carlisle, Hartlepool and the first game in Portugal) the lads have worn 1-11 and then the subs have been numbered 12 to whatever depending on how many subs there have been. I think this has been because in these games the youth squad have been used as well as some of the first team

In the Darlington, other two games in Portugal and the game against Betis tnyt the lads have worn their squad numbers. Mannone 25, Brown 5, Gomez 14, Bridcutt 26, O'Shea 16, Giaccherini 23, Ba 22 etc.. They will of only wore these numbers if they were this season's squad numbers and in early photo's from pre season the lads had their numbers on their training kits. I am not just changing the squad numbers for the sake of it.

Also on the safc facebook page there is a picture from last nights game of the team sheet and all the players have their squad number (not 1-11 next to their names — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaf2911 (talkcontribs) 20:34, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

More instances where one of the blocked accounts of this person (if the aforementioned report is accurate) tries to belittle every player/team when they succeed against Benfica (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Beto_(Portuguese_footballer,_born_1982)&diff=617321374&oldid=616937312), here he accuses Beto of doing what 99,999999999999999999% of the goalkeepers do - moving in line before a penalty kick is taken - and thus has a "scapegoat" for his team's loss. Incidentally, yesterday, in the 2014 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira final, Benfica's goalkeeper did exactly the same for his team's win, do you think he has inserted it or allows anyone to insert it? NOT!

If i was wrong in removing the reference (i only did it because i know the intention with which it was inserted, besides we already have a 100% reliable one covering the events of that match, UEFA.com), please reinstate it and sorry for any inconvenience. Attentively --84.90.219.128 (talk) 22:03, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

It would appear as though the user in question has indeed been using multiple accounts, and that combined with the tone of some of his edits I think an indef block is probably justified. Mattythewhite (talk) 01:11, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

Chelsea squad numbers

Hi Matty. Out of a passing interest, where did you get the updated squad numbers for Nathan Ake or the other players from? LRD NO (talk) 15:07, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

I don't think presumption is the answer, considering the spate of edits by multiple IPs and editors depending on exactly that. Richard Smallwood

Hello Matty. The article regarding Richard Smallwood had not been updated for a while, hence the inaccurate statistics. I actually have the match day programme in front of me with official appearance figures, but yes I agree, in terms of 'Wikipedia', it's not an official source. The figures, I can guarantee are accurate, however I cannot provide a citation to prove this. Cheers. feedtheducks (talk) 16:00, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

Serious stuff

Don't know if this is the habitual suspect we discussed at length in our mail exchange, but remember what i told you about Beto (Portuguese footballer, born 1982)? He is inserting that ref in every Benfica player (and presumably in Sevilla players too, i don't know yet) where he basically calls Beto a cheater and that is why Benfica lost.

This address to which i make reference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:188.81.115.107) hails from Viana do Castelo, the others from Setubal, hence it might not be the same individual but he could have moved cities. But the M.O. is the same, hail Benfica and screw the rest (especially Porto i wager).

Attentively (please reply here if you choose to do so) --84.90.219.128 (talk) 21:31, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

Brilliant, in Ivan Cavaleiro he removed the UEFA.com (!) ref, was reverted and then added the other that better suited his "stuff". Don't know why the hell am i doing this, since it's most likely i'll be subjected to vitriolic abuse for wanting to help an article on an ENCYCLOPEDIA get rid off the "bull" overzealous fan-like approach that's so typical all around the world! --84.90.219.128 (talk) 21:35, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

You may want to have a quick look at the Benfica squad and revert him altogether (plus the departees André Gomes, Rodrigo Moreno Machado and Ezequiel Garay), at least in Cavaleiro and Steven Vitória he was reverted and re-reverted! Cheers --84.90.219.128 (talk) 21:45, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

I can't say for certain it is that user, due to the different IP range, but his edit pattern is almost identical. Let's see if he persists, and at this rate he'll be blocked in his own right. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:36, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

He is REVERTING you/me with the summary "biased UEFA" (this person, on the other hand, is not biased, no way)!! I stay out, incredible... --84.90.219.128 (talk) 22:50, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

Another departee which you may have to revert is Óscar Cardozo, surely he missed his penalty because Beto cheated, surely! I am going to focus now on my translation, have a deadline to meet to be immerse in this warring with people with no sense of sportsmanship!! --84.90.219.128 (talk) 22:55, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

Committed the error of trying to converse with this person, politely but to the point. His reply, taunting ("Most people thought the Earth was flat and they were wrong") and accusatory ("You clearly don't like Benfica", even though i took the trouble of writing early on i DON'T SUPPORT ANY CLUB!). I give up, you people ride this out (just above you can see his two cents, where he directly calls Beto a cheater, "Betoteiro" being a compound word of his name and "batoteiro", "cheater" in Portuguese. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 00:20, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

Even worse than the run-in with User:Panhead2014, much much worse, i am crying as i write this, will leave WP forever after one final edit. Will return every now and then if i have grammar doubts if it's not too much trouble. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 00:41, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

More! User:Panhead2014, with whom several users, myself included, had a serious run-in in Míchel Salgado and Sergio Busquets, went in the page of the last anon user that harassed me and offered him his support, calling him the latest victim in wikibullying, great! Maybe if you show him the contribution where the person changed the name of Beto (Portuguese footballer, born 1982) from "Beto" to "Betoteiro" (Portuguese compound word of his name and cheater), he won't think so highly of him. As we all know, he has forbidden me of addressing him, so i have to oblige.

Happy weekend --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:39, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

  • Ah, thus, according to Panhead, you are also hounding and bullying and dragging, because you reverted the anon user. Fair enough, i give up. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 19:15, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

Mr. Panhead continues the harassment campaign (for example here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:GoPurpleNGold24#User:Gringoladomenega), but that's alright, i'm not editing anymore, only using WP to message users and for our little "grammatical exchanges". However, could you do me a favour if you please? Could you remove the two sentences in this very same message in which i am writing where the anon user is: 1 - taunting me; 2 - showing his pride in vandalizing Beto's name? Thank you.

Oh, Benfica (the club that the anon user says i hate, i don't, i don't use deep emotions such as love or hate in my approach to sports clubs) starts the league today, don't know what to expect in my wikipage if they win the match (even though my last words to this person occurred three days ago and were nothing but courteous, the same courtesy i never received back)...

WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive

Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!

TheQ Editor recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page.

If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you.

At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog.

As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

Marquinhos statistics

Hi, Marquinhos (footballer, born 1994) used to have a (slightly odd-coloured) statistics chart which was unsourced so it was deleted. I'm not very technically minded, so if you ever have a minute, could you construct a chart with this data? By the way, what is our policy with players who played in Brazil like he did, where there is a state and national league? As well, this Soccerway page bizarrely disects his season at Rome, the figure is the combined (16 appearances, 0 goals). I only presume that this was as he was also known as "Marcos" there. http://uk.soccerway.com/players/marcos-correa/180884/

Thanks in advance. '''tAD''' (talk) 00:15, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

Leighton Baines

I understand your concern, but I am confused what parts of my comment could be construed as biased and/or non-neutral.

"Baines played in 2 matches for England during their nightmarish appearance at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, appearing for the full 90 minutes against both Uruguay and Italy before sitting for the entire game versus Costa Rica.[35] Baines was a focus of much scrutiny after being exposed defensively, especially against Italy, but many have defended him as being just one small piece of an English side that was badly constructed and unable to compete with the best on the world stage.[36]"

The first sentence is obviously entirely recorded fact outside of the "nightmarish appearance" descriptor, however I know very few people who would not agree that this is a factual description of an appearance where they: 1) Failed to win a game, 2) Finished last in the group, barely earning their single point in a scoreless draw, and 3) Did not even have the lead for a single second of their time in the tournament. Obviously nightmarish is inherently a subjective word, but so is saying that a team had a good or bad season, or that a team got blown out, had several years of non-competitive play, or was overmatched by an opponent. These are all subjective, but when they are used to describe clear situations that are generally agreed upon by those involved they act as more as neutral descriptors used to explain the nature of an event.

The second sentence is also based on facts, even if it is read as supporting one opinion or the other (this is why I included references). It is a fact that many singled out Baines as worthy of blame after some of the losses, and it is as close to factual/neutral as you can get to say that opponents were able to move the ball, get into space, and get shots off while he was the responsible defender. Obviously with a statistic-less topic like defense saying someone had a bad game cannot be quantified numerically, however when a player is repeatedly getting beat it is fair to say that they did not play well. All of that being said, I'm never saying that he played badly....just that many believed he did at the time, as the article clearly states. It is also a fact (not opinion) that many came to his defense and said that there were overall issues with the team that led to the losses, as a defender he was just unlucky enough to be one of the faces most associated with failure (allowing goals) and the subsequent losing.

In short: All of history, reporting, and scholarship is based off opinion once you get out of the hard sciences (and even they are tied together with many theorums that are still waiting to be further tested. At no point in this article am i voicing my opinions or attacking the player or team, as ive shown in my analysis above. Instead I am referencing the fact that these events occurred and people had various opinions of it, neutral claims that I have supported with evidence that cites the very discussion I am talking about. The reaction to an event/perception of how things occurred is part of the story, and reporting on/writing about the context of a situation should not be rejected on face just because it is not as mechanical as: He played for this team for this many games and scored this many goals while playing this position, and that is all we will write here. Hopefully we can allow both that foundation and a discussion of all the other elements that surround sports, an athlete, and the fans/media. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Benischeck302 (talkcontribs) 21:41, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

changing visibility of revisions

The article on André Schürrle was vandalised earlier today with a wild slander that he served in the Nazi Youth, as this is patricularly defamatory can an admin do that thing when the offending revision of the page is removed from the history? I've asked for page protection as this was the straw breaking the back of a camel which has been loaded since the World Cup '''tAD''' (talk) 19:42, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

caluam jahraldo-martin

Why is he still listed? Why was I banned for removing him when he has no squad number? So who blocked me and why?

Another player who isn't notable.

Hi Matty, how are you?

Joseph Larweh Attamah is another one who isn't fully pro, never played for more than Ghana under-20's and a club in his native country.

I've already added the "proposed deletion" template (don't know if I'm really allowed to do so).

Thanks, MYS77 20:49, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Allright! Thanks for your help. MYS77 20:56, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

The player is notable see →https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football/Fully_professional_leagues#Men.27s_leagues you can remove the "proposed deletion" template.--Lglukgl (talk) 21:12, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Could you explain how the player is notable? Mattythewhite (talk) 21:15, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
Matty, my friend, Ghana (or any other African leagues except South Africa) is really a fully-pro league? For me, it doesn't look like a fully-pro league at all. Cheerio, MYS77 21:56, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Cosmin Moți

Hello Matty, could you please semi-protect Cosmin Moți.. it's being hit since he went in goal for a penalty shoot-out :) Thanks, JMHamo (talk) 22:21, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Abel Hernández

You obviously don't know anything about Hull City, go edit York City. I have proof of Abel Hernandez signing for Hull City: http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull-City-target-Abel-Hernandez-arrives-Hull/story-22835854-detail/story.html You also need to read more of the newspaper as you are not aware of new signings for Hull City. Please do not deny of me providing any proof. Maybe you should mind your own business and watch York City go down; this is why people like you make Hull a bad place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by HullCityTiger33 (talkcontribs) 12:59, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
