Clayton Donaldson

Care to explain the reverts on the Clayton Donaldson page? Am I missing something? Regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 19:56, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

I see you added an explanation in your most recent revert. Thanks for that. It would have been helpful if you had done that the first time round. I regularly make edits here on Wikipedia but still it wasn’t obvious to me straight away what I did wrong. Robby.is.on (talk) 20:08, 10 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your thanks, I appreciate it. :-) Robby.is.on (talk) 20:09, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

Nemanja Vidic

Hi, Mattythewhite, thanks for your concern. Since the match just ended over an hour ago, I was actually in the process of searching some reliable sources in English, but if you believe that it's better to remove that unsourced part for now, I have no objection to that. Regards — Joaquin008 (talk) 14:53, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

AEK Larnaca "user"

Does not care, in spite of the warnings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:213.207.164.174), I am the only one updating these players boxes, still.

Also, pay attention to this DANGEROUS vandal, inflates stats like no tomorrow in Ádám Szalai (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%C3%81d%C3%A1m_Szalai&diff=prev&oldid=632261159) and, to cover up his "contributions", proceeds to remove the ref'd chart below (next edit http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%C3%81d%C3%A1m_Szalai&diff=next&oldid=632261159). --84.90.219.128 (talk) 01:10, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Mr. Szalai's article, by the way, is completely overdetailed (or was, before I stepped in), and is ripe with overlinking (was), that and the chart removal has gone completely unnoticed, well can't watch everything can you? --84.90.219.128 (talk) 01:29, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi Matty, how are you?

Could you (properly) move TAD's sandbox to the current page mentioned above? It looks way better than the actual "in use".

Thanks, MYS77 03:10, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Gary Mills (footballer, born 1961) you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Cptnono -- Cptnono (talk) 02:20, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

The article Gary Mills (footballer, born 1961) you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Gary Mills (footballer, born 1961) for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Cptnono -- Cptnono (talk) 20:41, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Page move / AfD / Socks

1 - Could you please reinstate Márcio Mossoró to its previous (and correct title), "Mossoró (footballer)"? As (nearly) always, no explanatory note from an user which I believe has a "past" after browing his talkpage. MÁRCIO MOSSORÓ, like I said in my summary when I moved it back in the day, is a name/nickname compound!

2 - Kevin Ulbrich needs to be deleted if I'm not mistaken, only played amateur football in his country. Was part of a Panetolikos F.C. roster in the Greek second tier, but played no matches as link #3 (Greek as well) seems to attest.

3 - and these two are lousy punk User:Bruno corinthiano (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:186.225.0.88 and here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/186.225.0.168)!

Cheers, thanks in advance and have a brilliant and/or peaceful weekend --84.90.219.128 (talk) 23:46, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for assisting in the last item. When can you "lend a hand" in the first three, please? --84.90.219.128 (talk) 20:41, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Many (triple) thanks, keep up the great work! --84.90.219.128 (talk) 21:14, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Bill Dodd (footballer)

Hi I was just wondering if you could look up the date of birth and full name for Bill Dodd in the The PFA Premier & Football League Players' Records 1946–2005 book if you could please? thanks 21:07, 19 January 2015 (UTC) User talk:Nfc123

Ted MacDougall

Heya, it's a difficult to cite source (Ted MacDougall's goal Villa-Bournemouth) since reall you need multiple sources to verify it, and most of those sources are 'advanced' in years now. You see it mentioned though, say here - http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~2609294,00.html or here - http://www.lerwill-life.org.uk/astonvilla/a_villa_games.htm (~ a third of the way down), or in the comments on this page - http://www.astonvilla.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=7517906

Would any of those count as being a valid source? It's a difficult one cos you generally only hear about it when people in their 60s start reminiscing, then almost always people ask - did you go to Villa vs Bournemouth, do you remember Ted MacDOugall's goal? I can't remember seeing a better goal at Villa Park etc etc ... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.229.71.221 (talk) 23:30, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Irrelevance / AfD

User has returned (or maybe he never left), adding this information on African players' names that is quite useless, even referenced, I mean last time you concurred with me that is was useless (example here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fabrice_Olinga&diff=642551036&oldid=639545868). I have already reverted this one.

  • Also, if the Danish second tier is not notable, then this guy must be deleted am I not correct? --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:18, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
    • Do let me know if the IP continues adding unnotable content. I don't think I'd be entirely comfortable nominating that article for deletion; the subject does appear to fail WP:NFOOTBALL but I think scope could be there for the article to pass WP:GNG. Advice

Advice acknowledged. I don't usually edit football articles so I'm basically useless :)
Kind regards,
Joe Vitale 5 (talk) 23:08, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

The move was done by well established consensus and policy per WP:Common name and WP:Precise as the common usage is League One, and League One is sufficient to describe the topic (as evidenced by the fact that League One used to redirect to Football League One). If you feel there may be a case for using a less precise name and a lesswell used name, then procedure is that you start a discussion on the talkpage. We tend to follow policy by default, and discuss when we feel that policy is preventing us from doing something better. As regards your edit summary please see Wikipedia:Don't revert due solely to "no consensus". SilkTork ✔Tea time 20:17, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

I would prefer there to be a discussion on this move to garner multiple opinions. But let's not forget we're dealing with a set of articles, Football League Championship and Football League Two would also need moving. Mattythewhite (talk) 20:29, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

SERIOUS MATTER

The Colombian harasser (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Xxxx693 this one, after my humble opinion in the Quique Flores article regarding the page name in this here WP, many users concurred with me but he resorted to viciously harass only me) is back (please see this IP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/191.95.251.219, only changes things regarding Mr. Flores, and is from Colombia so there).

I reverted him in Flores' article (where he again went against WP policy by inserting "Quique Sánchez Flores" as "playername"), but not in his other "contributions". I am being as honest as I can, if he returns to my page with his vomit-inducing antics, I most likely will respond accordingly.

About your (non)participation in the January 2012 SOPA vote

Hi Mattythewhite. I am Piotr Konieczny (User:Piotrus), you may know me as an active content creator (see my userpage), but I am also a professional researcher of Wikipedia. Recently I published a paper (downloadable here) on reasons editors participated in Wikipedia's biggest vote to date (January 2012 WP:SOPA). I am now developing a supplementary paper, which analyzes why many editors did not take part in that vote. Which is where you come in :) You are a highly active Wikipedian (98th), and you were active back during the January 2012 discussion/voting for the SOPA, yet you did not chose to participate in said vote. I'd appreciate it if you could tell me why was that so? For your convenience, I prepared a short survey at meta, which should not take more than a minute of your time. I would dearly appreciate you taking this minute; not only as a Wikipedia researcher but as a fellow content creator and concerned member of the community (I believe your answers may help us eventually improve our policies and thus, the project's governance). PS. If you chose to reply here (on your userpage), please WP:ECHO me. Thank you! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:13, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Javad Nekounam - Caps for Iran

Again the lot at it, let's go step by step:

1 - according to NFT.com, he has 146 caps and 36 goals as of the ending of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup; 2 - RSSSF says he has 144/37 but that's not counting said competition, so he should have 148/37 after the tournament (Iran played four games there, he played all those), and FIFA (according also to the RSSSF web) says two of those games are not to be counted, even though the Iranian FA does so, so there you have, he has 146 (148-2), not the 149 that the "users" are giving him!

I've altered the box, the only matter of discussion should now only be the goals, 36 or 37 (note: I have copied this very message to the article's talkpage). Cheers, happy weekend --84.90.219.128 (talk) 03:15, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi there Matty,

can you please accept my changes in this player? Only reason I have still not added a ref to his hat-trick against Sporting is because match has ended 15 minutes ago only. I'll add it still today, a promise.

By the way, am starting a new book translation tonight, so I won't be that much of an asset here for at least one month.

Cheers, happy week --84.90.219.128 (talk) 21:27, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Can you please accept my last changes in Tello's piece? My reference was viewed as biased by someone else, I did not know that adding an official club release was biased, was acting in 300% good faith. Also, can you please drop a line in the page of the user concerned, so that he sees I am not making anything up (and/or correct me if I wrote something in his page that's not completely wiki-accurate)? --84.90.219.128 (talk) 15:31, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

Replying on your disactivating my edition of Mohamed Salah page, I can't see what's the problem... You have no good reason for deleting my changes, what sources are you talking about? My changes were something like making the "Egypt" word between brackets " Egypt ", providong the full name of the player... why did you remove it? Please let my changes work again... — Preceding unsigned comment added by MuktarGazalie (talkcontribs) 20:52, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

All content that could potentially be challenged needs to be cited by a reliable source, and I don't see why that should preclude full names. I also reverted your edit because dates and nationalities should not be wikilinked. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:02, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

As expected, caps continue to be "corrected" in spite of me having taken all the pertinent wikisteps (talk page of article + comprehensive summaries). I give up for one month, going to pay more attention to my translation than I have as of now, i'll care about the Nekounam page when I return.

Luke Graham

Hi Matty,

I am Luke's brother, you have done a great job with his page, was just trying to touch it up abit. Could you get his KAZAN 2013 UNIVERSIADE silver medal back up on there, I liked that. Also could you shorten his narrative abit, it's very long winded. He was Players player of the year two years running at Hereford which would be good to include. Will watch on with interest.

Regards Lloyd

JimmyGrimble28 (talk) 08:15, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi Lloyd, the reason I undid your edits is because they included unsourced content and changed the stats from league only to all competitions. If you could provide links that confirm the the silver medal and the Players' Player of the Year awards I'd happily add them in. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 21:40, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Honours

Hello!

Can you please say me if Honours of Footballers in the Profile have to be sourced with a link to article of a newspaper or newssite?

Because i´ts in Diders Drogbas Profile but not in Messis, Ronaldos, or Rooneys Profile. Chelsea-fan1 (talk) 14:51, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

Yes they do need to be sourced. Having looked at the Messi, Ronald and Rooney pages I see they are sourced; the references are presented after the club names. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:58, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

I have changed Diders Drogbas profile similar to Messis, Ronaldos, and Rooneys profile with Chelsea FC.com as source but a user has removed it with Wikipedia:Other stuff exists as his only explanation. And the rule says: When used correctly, these comparisons are important as the encyclopedia should be consistent in the content that it provides or excludes. Trouble arises when legitimate comparisons are disregarded without thought or consideration of the Wikipedia:Five pillars. I don´t think my changes brach against the Wikipedia:Five pillars. Can you please look at this and decide what is right. Chelsea-fan1 (talk) 20:51, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Bear in mind that the official Chelsea site does not include Galatasaray honours or individual. In my opinion the citation per honour is how it should be. JMHamo (talk) 21:54, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

I only changed the honours sources, not the individual. Chelsea-fan1 (talk) 11:33, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

In Javad Nekounam, the (alone) fight about his caps continues, the stuff I wrote in the article talk page did nothing like I imagined, when will the page get some protection/assistance (not "looking" at you specifically, but the footy community at large)? I believe User:Eni.Sukthi.Durres means well but his grammar consists of fractured English and that's why the article was in a bit of a mess when I first stumbled upon it last week.

He made his debut for Parma on 14 January 2015, starting in the Coppa Italia match against Cagliari.[1] After 13 minutes however Lila was forced off the field with a thigh muscle problem.[2] Soon as he returned from the injury he played as a starter against Sassuolo on 15 March 2015 and managed to score his first goal with Parma, where anyway its goal wasn't any enough as Parma lost 4–1.[3] PellèLong (talk) 17:50, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

Small favour man, please: can you retrieve Vasil Shkurtaj's old storyline (page was moved, if you check the edit history the former name will appear, courtesy of banned User:Zombie433)? The current one is in appalling condition. I am 100% sure there is such a thing as an "ancient" storyline because I edited several times there and the current storyline (merely an infobox duplicate now) has nothing to do with the previous one...

Attentively, thanks in advance --84.90.219.128 (talk) 21:39, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Fabrice Olinga (and other African players i presume)

This user (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:88.98.48.3#November_2014) continues to add this strange section to this player's article, and is getting rather proficient at the "undo" button (well so am I!). Last time we talked about this you concurred with me that it did not belong in an encyclopedia, am I correct?

If not, please accept my apologies and revert me --84.90.219.128 (talk) 22:04, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Vandal extraordinaire

Remember this guy you blocked last year (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Juanjo11111)? He is back with a new account, pursuing his only - not kidding, this person only edits here - wiki-interest in life which is to destroy Luis Rubiales (google translator used on the Spanish wiki entry, removing ALL the refs!!).

You have been briefed mate, cheers --84.90.219.128 (talk) 03:08, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Well? Shouldn't we at least give him the trouble of creating another account? He WILL vandalize the article again, just don't know when (and by the way, WHY!). --84.90.219.128 (talk) 14:53, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

SilkmenArchives (Geoffrey Knights) Sorry for not adding a reference for my amendment to Len Butt's figures but as this is only a statsitical amendment (and I am going through amending all the Macclefield Town FC entries I can find) I did not deem it necessary. The information for all Macclesfield players is genuine and is taken from the official web archive site for Macclesfield Town FC (www.silkmenarchives.org.uk)for which I am responsible on behalf of the club as a Life Vice President and the club's historian and statsman. Please do not remove any of these amendments as they are all correct and raised from research and are the official figures for the club.

Vandalism-only account

Judging from what he did in Tiago Pinto, you'll be the judge (pardon for the redundancy)... "Contributions" here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/BILLYKILLSYOU52). --84.90.219.128 (talk) 23:29, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

It is still afoot... I don't doubt that for the Iranians he has 150 caps (147 +3 non-FIFA games), so I imagine Iranian press releases will report him celebrating his 150th int'l appearance, but for FIFA he has 147. NO ONE has so much written one word in the article's talk page thus far, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance, keep up the good work --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:21, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

  • OK sorry to bother you, I have taken it to WP:FOOTY (and by the way, stats continue being altered without one word in summary or article's talk). --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:08, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

I butt in again, with this crucial favour: can you please protect the page until this is all settled with more data? After someone suggested me, I inserted a hidden message in this player's box, which of course was disregarded and REMOVED. Now, I inserted a ref in his storyline where he HIMSELF says he will not retire as of now (press release from TODAY), the nuisances go to his box and write "2000-2015" in his Iran spell.

Let's see who gets tired first! Attentively --84.90.219.128 (talk) 23:29, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

  • More: if possible, could you please de-protect Júlio Regufe Alves? Must be one of those wiki-oversights, has been protected for THREE YEARS if I'm not mistaken, due to what? An idiot (I feel he did it on purpose to spite me after i lost it when he started inserting wrong info in the infobox - i explained it to him politely and calmely in the first 2/3 times, to help a newbie as it should). Thanks, in advance --84.90.219.128 (talk) 03:43, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

I have come up with a solution that will leave the (tongue-tied) Iranian users content, but to insert it (i.e. a ref where Mr. Nekounam says he has retired from the int'l scene) I need the article de-protected for a few minutes (then you can protect it again if you see fit, no point on adding anymore on the article's talk page, sick of talking to myself!). Do you think you can accommodate? If so, thanks in advance. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 17:44, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

Erik Lamela

I can't see the point in saying that my changes were not "constructive".

I use the caps/goals info from transfermarkt.de which I think is pretty accurate as they keep it updated after every match team played.

If you are finding my doing inaccurate and not constructive please explain why do you think so.

Thanks,

Tim Sherwood

Mattythewhite has edited out some facts from Tim Sherwood's wikipedia page. His win ratio is understood to be second to none. It is also celebrated in numerous Vine videos. Even Gary Lineker commented on this. These are both facts that Tim Sherwood has come to be known for. I thought that Wikipedia was a summation of general knowledge. Tim Sherwood's win ratio has now entered into the vernacular to deserve to live on the wikipedia page.

RLC

I must say I dislike how the default position from senior editors seems to be to officiously delete and threaten with banning when someone makes a well intentioned and entirely correct edit. If you think the information doesn't stand on it's own two feet (the impression someone might get by looking at any high profile footballer's honours section) then it would take less time to go on google to verify the information then it would to delete and threaten. Is it any surprise wikipedia is losing contributors? Arials101 (talk) 20:58, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi Matty

Could you help keep an eye on this one? A user seems determined to keep reverting to a version of which includes loads of POV language ("fantastic performance"), incorrectly formatted season names, inappropriate use of the player's forename rather than surname, etc.

AEK Larnaca "user"

Still at it (this guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:213.207.164.174), I have reverted the Spanish/Portuguese players on this squad.

Happy editing --84.90.219.128 (talk) 17:12, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

  • As if we hadn't enough with the anon form, take a look at this, User:Minas7, also does not write a PC update to save his life and is also a fan of the club mentioned in title it seems (highly doubtful the account is also the anon(s), because it has been around for several years now per the talkpage, obviously I can't be 100% sure, I also used to have an account and also edited with an IP from time to time, so there). Sigh... --84.90.219.128 (talk) 03:33, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

The anon "form" of this "user" has returned to his ways after the block expired (by that I mean this IP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:213.207.164.174#April_2015). --84.90.219.128 (talk) 21:09, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

(but please, don't forget to consult message #7 of this very thread lest you missed it, news on the AEK Larnaca "user") Can you please, if you see it fit of course, unprotect this article? I'd like to make some (minor) adjustments, add refs to existing storyline and further add to intro.

Cheers, thanks in advance --84.90.219.128 (talk) 22:17, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, my mixup, thought article was protected after reading "View source" instead of "Edit". All done, but I see you have altered the title nonetheless. Can you please tell me, in a nutshell, what does "View source" mean please? --84.90.219.128 (talk) 22:45, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, I did not see this message until now. "View source" appears when an article is protected. The article has now been unprotected to it says "Edit" instead. Mattythewhite (talk) 19:21, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

No need to apologize, me and my hastiness. It's just that since I saw you were active, I thought I had committed a(nother) wikiwrongdoing. My question is (also) the following: when I clicked on "View source" in Mr. Emery's article, I was allowed to alter the characters/contents. When a page is fully protected, you are not allowed to touch any contents. Could it be, thus, that Mr. Emery's page was only semi-protected? --84.90.219.128 (talk) 20:01, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

It was indeed semi-protected, so you were still able to view the markup. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:28, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi Matty, how are you?

Can you determine if these players (Yeray Gómez and Gabriel Gasparotto) pass through the guidelines of WP:GNG? Yeray is widely known in Spain due to being a wonderkid from Mallorca, while Gasparotto is also a promise from Santos. Both appeared for his nations' youth sides, and have a good amount of coverage in some reliable sources.

Thanks, MYS77 20:22, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

The sources used in the mainspace pages you've created look like routine reports, and I'm not entirely sure there is sufficient coverage from the quick Google searches I've done. I think you'd be best to wait for these players to make their pro debuts. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:30, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
Okay, thanks! MYS77 22:34, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

Matty, since you have already reverted this user in Carles Puyol, can you have a word with him (you have already too, he BLANKED THE PAGE with no reply) regarding his separatist approach? He did the same in Carles Busquets, with the summary "He is a Catalan!" No he is not, Mr. Busquets is SPANISH born in the region of Catalonia.

To answer your question

Yes I am. Please look at what you're reverting | this includes a line which reads " He also called himself a fuck up for being a terrible keeper following the playoff final against Motherwell. <ref>{{cite news|title=Baby girl joy for Gers keeper Bell|url=http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/entertainment/film/baby-girl-joy-for-gers-keeper-bell-149012n.23232011|publisher=Evening Times|date=21 January 2014|accessdate=12 February 2014}}</ref> " This link doesn't back up the fact that he called himself a fuckup. It has to be reverted per WP:BLP. Do not continue to put that back in, as it can't stay in without a reliable reference. KoshVorlon Rassekali ternii i mlechnye puti 18:14, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Your Simon Lappin Edit

From what I see you have no interest in the Simon Lappin page, so I presume you are taking on the role of the wikipedia reference police. I suggest that, rather the deleting the edit, it would have been better to leave it as is and ask for a reference to be added. Will you now please reinstate your deletion. If you wish to have a reference, I suggest you add the reference to http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/simon_lappin_leaves_norwich_city_1_1801103 . Hi. Regarding the changes I made on the article, I don't think simply mentioning that he plays as a centre back or left back merits a separate Style of play section. Until more information from reliable sources can be gathered on his strengths as a defender and the actual manner in which he defends, I think that single sentence can easily be integrated into the lead.
