Hi. I've noticed the good work you do on here. I was wondering if you'd be interested in contributing to this ambitious British Isles challenge to bringing about 10,000 improvements to the UK and Ireland. The drive is fuelled by regional contests every few months, but it is generally an ongoing content improvement development. If you'd be interested in chipping in with the articles you improve please add your name to the participants and start adding your entries to the big list. Diversity of input will make it much more interesting to peruse! Thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:29, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

Cool, I'll help with some football biographies I should have created ages ago! Mattythewhite (talk) 15:05, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, Is it possible though you could only add larger stubs/expansions/start class entries to the list though as the overall intention is more quality improvement and reducing stub count haha. Stubs which are a bit fleshier are welcome though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:58, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

RE: Brendan Cox

Dear sir,

I recently saw a post directed me you posted on my personal page and on edit notes describing me as a "vandal" and "clearly a hoaxer" and describing me as "Providing false information" regarding my article on the English goalkeeper, Brendan Cox. I would like to argue that this is deeply untrue and very hurtful, as i would never even dream of misleading anyone ever! Brendan Cox is a real person, I know because I have met him myself. He told me he had made it through a trial for Plymouth Argyle and said they have given him the Number 1 shirt, which i already know is true because I had previously known other people saying he was present at Harpers Park (Argyle Training Ground) WITH THEM for a trial, as his whole youth team were at the club. (said team is known as Staddiscoombe Colts). He is good young lad and not a 'hoax' as you put it so blatantly.

Please think carefully before making claims in the future — Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnTombs48 (talkcontribs) 18:17, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

Funny how a Google search yields no results matching your claims, isn't it! Mattythewhite (talk) 18:19, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Funny how looking up half the players listed in the development squad doesn't bring up anything either! Besides why would they upload 100s of names onto the internet of players they have trialled over the years? It would make no sense as other clubs who were looking into the player would know they were on their radar, and they would probably break dozens of data protection laws in the the process! Besides why would they bother to make a press release for 1 17 year old who made it through a trial? The club probably makes tens or even hundreds of similar acquisitions a year! They wouldn't hold a press release for all of them, would they? He will be included in a squad list somewhere in a few weeks just you wait. I'm not a liar, good sir. Now, I have got work to do. Unlike you, seemingly Mr. 300,000 edits. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnTombs48 (talkcontribs) 18:36, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
You're seriously telling me they wouldn't bother with a press release for a goalkeeper they've assigned the number one shirt (as you claim)? Give over. And your "Mr. 300,000 edits" remark is a great idea, that's really going to help your cause... Mattythewhite (talk) 18:41, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

Automated edits

Never noticed that on single-source articles before - thanks for the heads up. I still feel that converting to 30em makes sense, as it pre-empts article expansion. We cannot rely on one/only a handful of sources indefinitely, ideally... GiantSnowman 19:17, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

Re: Evandro Rachoni De Lima

With respect

Evandro Rachoni De Lima is a real goalkeeper, he has played for Crawley Town and Concord Rangers. If you go on google there is 10 pages of items for him. He has been mentioned in four four two magazine and in various other well known and supported publications. He was mentioned as a blacked out player on a page for Crawley Towns 14-15 season on wikipidea as well. If you have an actual problem with my article tell me it. I just want to write articles on here. He has also played in the German 4th league which is a proffesional league

Kindly refrain from threatening to block me for perceived "vandalism". The edits to the aforementioned page were based on information contained within the Soccerbase website which allocated Robson-Kanu the squad number 21 see link here. The website is regularly used on Wikipedia for statistical purposes therefore I deemed the information contained on this page to be correct.

YCFC: Jon Greening transfer fee

What's the reason for reverting my update re the York City / Jon Greening transfer fee. It was factually correct, added value and was referenced back to a reliable source. City received approx. £1.1m comfortably more than that for Richard Cresswell, albeit it in staged payments, so I believe its worth noting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chrismf (talkcontribs) 16:29, 22 September 2016 (UTC)

In my edit summary, I linked to List of York City F.C. records and statistics#Transfers. I should have been more specific and directed you to footnote F, which expands on the fee received for Greening. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 23:19, 22 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, that sort of makes sense, however Footnote F makes no mention of the sell on to Middlesbrough and the additional monies York received (see the references I added yesterday). PS The fees quoted on wiki for McCarthy and Murty are the original fees and don't include clauses (for McCarthy we got 20% (approx. £200k) when he moved to Birmingham and £50k from Reading when they got promoted). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chrismf (talkcontribs) 07:14, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Mattythewhite. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:48, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Stats of players

Hello, Mr Mattythewhite.
Please, I want to know how to get full Stats of a player, is there any website mention it?
Some numbers of matches of the players are mentioned in Wikipedia, but I can't find its reference. -- Mohammad Hegazy (talk) 22:22, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. I am well aware of the contents of Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football/Players#Career_statistics - the last section says while "there is a slight advantage in accessibility when you repeat cells, rather than rowspanning them", "our readers won't be disadvantaged noticeably if we don't repeat every cell that contains duplicate data". I interpret this to mean that my format was just as valid as yours, but I have no plans to get into a fight about this. Life's far too short to squabble about Wikipedia. Cheers. Greek vandal

This Greek IP (please see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/2.85.85.18) is still at it in spite of your warning. Two of their "contributions" strike the eye, so to speak:

1 - Daniel Fernandes (footballer), continues to add 28 games for OFI Crete even though all (reliable) sources say 21, continues to add 2007 and 2010 as caps for Portugal when NFT.com says 2007 and 2009;

2 - Djalma Campos, even though FORADEJOGO.net shows us his last game for C.S. Marítimo B as being in 2010 (common practice as this Portuguese club, even veteran Briguel kept appearing for them almost until his retirement), the IP is having none of that, they say 2007! Here's the FDJ game entry so you don't have to bother and browse, check out date in the top-right corner (http://www.foradejogo.net/match.php?match=201115400320607).

They continue at it, in Mr. Fernandes and/or Marián Kelemen... --85.242.133.151 (talk) 20:51, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Remember this situation? Well, after a few "experiments" we got our first summary from the other party, and it goes down like this: it's Mr. Fernandes himself who has been making the (bad) edits, and he also says we did not count the CUP games/goals and so he inserts them.

Cheers --85.242.133.151 (talk) 20:15, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

Matty, could you please see to it that this category is duly adjusted? It's BRAGANÇA (note the symbol attached to the letter "C") not BRAGANCA. Problem is i do not know if that will be possible, as far as i know this letter only exists in the Portuguese language.

Hi Matty,

You left me the following message recently, and I think it may have been in error. I'm pretty sure I didn't make any change to the Sydney Leroux page. I'm a little worried that someone else might have access to my identity, so could you double check and get back to me? It would be hugely appreciated. Hello, I'm Mattythewhite. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Sydney Leroux, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Hello, I'm Mattythewhite. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Anfield has been undone because it did not appear constructive. Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:08, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Mattythewhite.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Mattythewhite. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

This IP is back to their disruptive editing again. I know that they have not edited for quite awhile as of now, but I'm just letting you know that you may want to at least keep an eye on them again, thanks. 73.96.112.156 (talk) 00:21, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

VisualEditor

Hello, Just a quick question. I was wondering do you use the VisualEditor to edit sections? Thanks --Skyblueshaun (talk) 16:46, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Not knowingly! Mattythewhite (talk) 17:16, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Caps by Decade edits to Beckham, Charlton, Platt

Unfortunately you are right, I can't provide a cite so the changes need to stay reversed. I copied and pasted the following table (judging by the Milner entry, about 5 years ago) from what I thought was englandfootballonline.com and went back to confirm it and give the cite, but I can't find it. Perhaps it was from some other maybe defunct website. Thanks for spotting and keeping me honest...

Alex Iwobi

He warmed the bench for one game in 2013-14 and one game in 2014-15 - in what way can he be considered a first team player in those seasons? GiantSnowman 20:22, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

Can you explain how a player's inclusion in a first-team matchday squad does not merit the start of a player's senior career? Just because he didn't take to the field doesn't mean we should sweep facts under the rug. Mattythewhite (talk) 20:39, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
Also, would you mind not reverting the stats update I made, or reinstating the 'ntupdate' wording for 'nationalteam-update', which has been disbanded for years? Mattythewhite (talk) 20:41, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

User:31.200.185.123 and Ronnie O'Sullivan non ranking finals

Hello Matty, could you please deal with the above user, as I don't want to violate 3RR. The user keeps adding unsourced material to Ronnie O'Sullivan's article, and their last edit included an unreliable reference. ★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★ 18:59, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

The user reverted again, I've given them a 3rr warning, but can't revert. ★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★ 23:08, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi I have added the last event and used a source like I was asked to do RN79 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.200.185.123 (talk) 23:23, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

The user has still not provided a reliable source per definition of published which I've outlined here, can you please remove the offending material. ★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★ 00:35, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Can i ask what is wrong with the source that I added what is essentially missing from it where you want to remove ?. You seem to just want to remove it because I reverted your edit without knowing how to add the source properly. I tried to add it and I done it wrong. What is wrong with this reference?. 31.200.133.77 (talk) 13:56, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

I did reply here & left a notification message on your new talkpage, telling you where the reply was, it's not my fault you keep changing IP's and miss messages. Two questions regarding player appearance updates

Hi Mattythewhite, just a question here which I'd like to get off my chest. Firstly, are we allowed to update player appearances on wiki? Or is there an actual system in place?

Secondly, also for player profiles on wiki, where it displays '* Senior club appearances and goals counted for the domestic league only and correct as of 16:40, 21 December 2016 (UTC). ‡ National team caps and goals correct as of 16:40, 21 December 2016 (UTC)' ...... Am I allowed to edit the dates of these? Especially if the update dates aren't correct. Thank you. A99 Wiki (talk) 16:40, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Danish punk vandal

Did it again at Willy Boly, did not so much as flinch while doing it, no respect at all for fellow users.

  • Another no good vandal worth looking at is present at Jorge Paixão (the IP and the account MASSO65), removes all negative approaches to the subject (a girlfriend, his agent, go figure) even if they are referenced. Example: one says he never coached in higher than the Portuguese Second Division, they replace it with "he coached some Portuguese historical clubs". In the passages where it is said the manager was sacked, they remove everything, period!

Attentively (note: this is also AL, editing from work with another static IP, not trying to avoid scrutiny through IP-hopping or anything) --193.137.135.2 (talk) 09:35, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Revert at Troy Deeney

Please, the details that I added were in the source listed. Press Ctrl+F and search for "penalty" and "fifth". As you reverted in the same minute I made the addition, I highly doubt you even checked to verify the additions. Stevan Jovetic

Stevan Jovetic has been on loan 18 months [1]--Pedrotangtang (talk) 02:26, 2 January 2017 (UTC) wiki also mentions: On 31 July 2015, Jovetić joined Serie A side Inter on an 18-month loan deal, for €2.5 million

I feel this page move was 100% incorrect. Now, it consists of a name/nickname compound, and it's not coherent anymore with the similar article Mika (footballer, born 1987), which you kindly moved back in the day when i asked you to.

Also, this user added a completely wrong category ("Swiss footballers", he is not that, never played football there not even as a toddler!), but if you feel i was in the wrong whilst reverting them feel free to re-revert. What's your intake overall? Attentively --85.242.133.151 (talk) 16:36, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

  • I stand corrected, you moved BOTH articles. --85.242.133.151 (talk) 16:39, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
    • Moved back, on grounds of WP:COMMONNAME. Re the category, you could argue towards its inclusion as he was born in Switzerland, but I personally wouldn't add it. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:41, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

The user, who is the player himself per summaries left, continues at it. --193.137.135.2 (talk) 12:37, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

CONTINUES! He does not even know when did he play for clubs? Pathetic, i'm all for full page protection, but you'll be the judge of course. --85.242.133.151 (talk) 19:03, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Years in infobox?

Hello, what exactly is the rule for listing years in the infoboxes regarding winter transfers? For example, I saw that you changed "2016" to "2017" at Oscar (footballer, born 1991), while other articles, like Carlos Tevez, have "2016" (and not 2017 like Oscar) as their last club, and "2016–" for their next club (Shanghai)? If transfer window opens at midnight on 1st January, then Oscar was technically a Chelsea player until 23:59 on 31 December, so both Oscar and Tevez articles are wrong and it should have been 2012–2016 Chelsea and 2017– Shanghai? 86.58.36.145 (talk) 14:27, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi there, you appear to have removed the addition of player and team nationality flags from the Arsenal records page, despite these edits making this page more consistent with most other teams records pages, such as Manchester City and Chelsea is there any reason why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rekyht (talkcontribs) 14:48, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

I am attacking you because you changed my edit for the third time by now and you are keep doing it but I don t understand WHY??
