Quoi: Can you remember why you've retitled the article to the version without the accent above the a? I see on Talk:Lucas Hernández (footballer, born 1992) that there are a few people who claim that article title should be moved back as that's how he spells it (i.e. this section title). @46.149.249.106: & Mattythewhite, I have also started a requested move on Talk:Theo Hernandez re that accent earlier this month without actually realising that French citizens don't usually have the accents where I made a comment after the recent oppose comment. I am now thinking that article should stay as it is for that same reasoning. Just as well it has not been moved whence it came before what I've realised about accents on French names. I looked at the reliable source page and from the looks of it, Swedish news articles from Sweden's biggest football news site about a Swedish football manager would go under reliable sources according to Wikipedia. I don't understand... where should I introduce that reliable source, as in that info panel can not introduce this info. I followed the Transfermarkt database, where it's confirmated Antoine Griezmann played along last seasons as attacking midfielder the most of his matches. Indeed, I should take the fact that those who edit this Wikipedia does not necessary edit their "home language" Wikipedia as part of Wiki life. Hello, and thank you for cleaning up. Not sure that unhyphenated left backs needed "cleaning": Collins, Lexico and even Wiktionary prefer the unhyphenated version. @Struway2: The hyphenated form seems to be preferred in general usage here, including at Association football positions, but what's better grammatically I'm not sure.

Both are acceptable, as the dictionary links show (Chambers doesn't list left back, but does give centre-back as hyphenated). Interestingly, at association football positions, centre-back is hyphenated but centre forward isn't: can't think of a decent reason for those being treated differently.

@Sepguilherme: I appreciate that you didn't uploaded the file, but what I would advise is that you (or indeed any user) double check the accuracy of the copyright claims of any file on Commons before adding them to a Wikipedia page. It's not uncommon for files like the Haaland one to be uploaded by inexperienced editors who don't understand our copyright policy for them to only be detected as copyvios at a later time. You might want to look at the existing references at the Coady page on edit mode to get a better understanding of what they look like and what details they contain. How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

Footballer refs

Hello Matty, I saw that most of the players have birth date sourced from ESPN website. Is there any particular reason for that? The award is notable because it is given out to the player who has the best overall stats of the last decade per league, and the highest rating, determined by a multitude of factors.

They’re probably the 2nd most notable stat website behind Sofascore, and they are the only one with consistent data since 2010. They also work with Opta. TJarrrett (talk) 22:54, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

@TJarrrett: That, by itself, doesn't make an award notable.
I'd say Soccerbase and Soccerway are far and away the most prevalent stats sites, not that that particularly matters when we're talking about honours anyway.

@TJarrrett: Possibly, but there doesn't seem to be much consistency on the inclusion of records sections. The WP:FOOTY Player MoS includes them, but I'd question whether they're actually honours at all (I'd say they're more accurately described as achievements), and I'm unsure if there was actually consensus for their inclusion. BBC award is obviously notable, because it’s the BBC...

The goal one isn’t as much, but Salah for example has goal awards on his wiki.

@TJarrrett: I would ask, are these awards of particular prevalence, i.e. have they received significant independent coverage? The BBC may be one of the more significant players in football media, but does that make their team of the decade, voted for by readers of their website, a noteworthy honour? Rizespor IP editor

What can be done about this persistent disruption? It has been going on for quite some time now (a few months as I understand it). No notice is taken of either hidden advice or messages and it seems possible that the editor does not have a good grasp of English (CIR). Several IP addresses have now been used. I'm not going reluctant to go to ANI with it as it my experience that this sort of thing is not taken seriously there and in any event, IMO, (FWIW) ANI is not fit for purpose any more. @Eagleash: I've left a message on their TP re infobox timestamps. If they continue do update stats incorrectly, you might want to warn them while directing them to the timestamp message, like I did here with another editor. Let me know if they persist. Persist? It's been happening for weeks if not months. Here is the list of Sunday 26th's disruptive edits and here are edits from 24 Dec. and here are edits from 22 Dec. which were reverted only to be redone by the IP on the 24th and reverted, mainly by yourself, I think. They use a new IP every time making it very difficult to communicate with them and I doubt if they have even seen messages that have been left for them at various talk pages. I do not think they even understand English ('hidden' advice is ignored and sometimes just deleted). They do seem to have got the idea re 'olinking' though as there does not seem to be much of it being 'reinstated' in the last batch of edits. There are other IP addresses including from different ranges, but the edits are identical. Robby.is.on has also been involved here as well as others. Multiple editors have left multiple messages at several talk pages but to no avail. I've tried Turkish through Googe translate (which may have its limitations) but only today so not certain of any outcome as yet. I can probably find / compile a list of IP addresses and TP messages (incomplete) but may take some time and I cannot guarantee when. Happy Xmas!! Eagleash (talk) 02:49, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
  • I see you've caught today's batch of edits! Since the posts above there have been other IPs used (at least two) with identical edits. Clearly after the time this has been going on and the seeming inability to heed (or possibly even understand) advice this is both disruptive and probably WP:CIR. This does not look like ceasing to happen of its own volition. Messages have no effect whatsoever, no response / interaction, no improvement, just make the disruptive edits, disappear, return some time later from another IP and make them again. BBC's Premier League team of the decade

Hello, Matty. Over the past week or so, there has been an effort to add BBC Premier League team of the decade as an official honour to player articles with the source being this: Premier League team of the decade: Who makes yours?. I do not believe it belongs because it is a poll among BBC readers and thus WP:USERGENERATED. I have tried to remove it per that policy for Sergio Agüero, the only applicable player in my watchlist, with pleas to discuss on the talk page. I keep being reverted with no discussion and inadequate edit summaries to convince me I am wrong. I also raised the issue on the Football/England taskforce talk page three days ago with no response. While the nominated players were selected by experts, it is ultimately just a popularity poll among fans. I have found no secondary coverage of this list being revealed by other reputable sources, only blogs etc. discussing it. If we include this as an official honour, where does it end? Why not Sports Illustrated's list or PST writers? At least those lists were made by experts. (P.S. I did notice it came tangentially in your Hazard discussion above). @Govvy: I'm going by his profile on the Ukrainian Premier League website, which in my experience is good for the full names of Ukrainian players. Overlap

It is not true that we do not overlap, it is just a very rare case. But we can't just avoid that a player played in a team just because he already played in a senior side. For example in the case of Falcao, are you just gonna remove that he played in the River youth side just because we debuted with the senior team of Lanceros? @89.205.126.197: We typically wouldn't include a competition a player wasn't included in the squad for, as was the case in 2014, hence why it wasn't already included. I appreciate that the reference which cites Real Madrid's website does include it, although, for me, we should use a source more independent than the player's club when it comes to honours. The stats from Soccerway, by looking at the numbers of the National Team tab, also gives him 100 appearances if we don't count the under aged appearances. You'd think every website which logs in every appearance would all agree with each other but I guess Soccerway have added in two appearances which others have not included. I'm inclined to agree that he has made 98 appearances per this external link. If that external link is indeed correct, I agree that entry should not be included at this point. I have looked carefully at "external link" carefully and noticed all the appearances that Son has played. I have found two appearances which are in the "Non FIFA" part of the table - one in 2011 and another one in 2015, probably the friendly matches against Poland in 2011 and one of these friendlies in 2015 ([2] [3] [4] [5]). Also, at the end of the 2020-21 season, the Spurs profile says he has had 93 appearances and has made seven appearances since August 2021 by looking at the external link. I'm guessing the club has included the two non-FIFA matches as part of the overall total when updating the page. Okay now why did you remove the update i made after, i added his premier appearance this season 2022 and you still removed it? The only true source where i get this update is on premeir league fantasy website. before we wait for articles which sometimes come late premier league app has everything. Hi! I see you reverted my edit on Virgil van Dijk, with the motivation "His contract though ended in Jan 2018, which is what we go by". However, his contract with Liverpool began on 1 January 2018. On 31 December 2017, he belonged to Southampton. On 1 January 2018, he belonged to Liverpool. @Mattias321: Hi, I don't think it is misleading. The transfer was completed on 1 Jan 2018, so I feel that would be considered the last day he was a Southampton player. I can't think of any other situations where a player moved on the first day of a new year and we consider the end date for their previous club to be the last day of the previous year. @Mattythewhite: When the signing was announced, Liverpool wrote "The Reds have agreed a deal with the south coast club, and the player himself, that will see the 26-year-old defender move to Anfield when the transfer window re-opens on January 1, 2018". My interpretation is that the transfer officially took place immediately when the transfer window opened on 1 January. On 31 December 2017 23:59, he was still a Southampton player.
