I have an opinion on archiving bots

This is not necessarily a request for a change, but after getting lost trying to find some things, I have an opinion about archiving bots: They should never ever leave less than the most recent 20 sections. Too many people set automatic archiving to 15 days and 1 section minimum on fast paced articles, and as soon as they slow down it leaves their talk pages essentially useless for anyone who hasn't watchlisted the article or isn't checking their watchlist fast enough. There is never any real reason to have fewer than the most recent 20 talk page sections, so I think that should be the hard minimum, enforced by the bot code itself. Is that a radical opinion? I don't know, but I am sharing it with you to do with as you wish. EllenCT (talk) 20:44, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly agree.5.28.89.25 (talk) 21:08, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Quarterly archives

Hello MiszaBot savy people... Is it currently possible to have quarterly archiving with MiszaBot without having to manually modify the counter every three months? I'm hoping there is some way that I can enter a simple formula into the archive = or counter = section that performs a calculation to the effect of month/3 rounded up... Thanks. Bot nor removing originals of archived threads

Please take a look at this archive and the talk page being archived. The bot repeatedly archives the same threads but never removes them from the talk page. Failed attempts to resolve that issue so far: Timestamping a comment in the original thread, and changing that thread's heading. I can't tell what causes this behaviour (possibly the {{help me-helped}} template?), but whatever it is, it should not result in this effect. At worst the bot shouldn't archive threads at all; it shouldn't add them to the archive without removing them from the page itself. For now the problematic thread was removed manually from the talk page, but it would be nice to know the cause and to make sure it doesn't happen again. Huon (talk) 19:36, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) This looks very similar to this other example. In both cases the bot wrote to an archive, didn't write to the talk page, and stopped for half an hour before moving on to the next customer. Unfortunately the bot's owner hasn't been active here recently, so this is unlikely to be fixed. -- John of Reading (talk) 19:52, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Misza13. Miszabot does not works at Talk:Radionuclides associated with hydraulic fracturing. Any of reasons listed under FAQ seems not apply. Could you please help to resolve this issue. Thank you. Beagel (talk) 14:46, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This edit should fix it. The path to the archive subpage didn't match the name of the talk page. --Redrose64 (talk) 18:35, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. Of course this was the reason but somehow I did not spot this. Hopefully it will work. Once more, thank you. Beagel (talk) 18:58, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How to Un-Archive a talk page?

When a talk page, such as [[1]] has been archived without discussion, how can this be reversed? 5.28.89.25 (talk) 21:13, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The talk page history shows that MiszaBot has not done any archiving at Talk:Rachel's Tomb since August 2012, so it's not clear what you are referring to. EdJohnston (talk) 22:15, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Umm - the archiving before August 2012. ( You will see that no consensus was reached that archiving is really needed there.)86.56.71.208 (talk) 16:26, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The archiving was set up with this edit; it might be worth asking Wwoods (talk · contribs) why it was done. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:11, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Will do. To undo the archiving, must i simply reverse that edit, or is it more complicated? 86.56.63.5 (talk) 10:22, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting that edit will prevent archiving from occurring in future, but it won't return threads from archive to main; and it will also cause ancillary damage. Which thread(s) did you want to be unarchived? --Redrose64 (talk) 13:46, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see that Wwoods (talk · contribs) has replied to a similar thread just one minute before I posted above. --Redrose64 (talk) 13:48, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

MiszaBot II not archiving one thread

On Template talk:Infobox ethnic group, there was one thread that MiszaBot II wouldn't archive that I had to manually archive (here). What caused this? Jackmcbarn (talk) 12:36, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The timestamp (2008-06-27 23:56 z) is not in a format which MiszaBot recognises. Partly it's the two non-breaking spaces; partly it's the time being after the date; partly the all-numeric date; partly the non-standard time zone indicator. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:08, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
