WikiProject userbox templates

[edit]

WikiProject userbox templates add any page on which they are placed to the corresponding WikiProject member category. To disable this feature, add a nocat=true parameter to the template invocation, e.g., {{User WikiProject Hawaii|nocat=true}}. I have added these parameters to the templates in your sandbox. If you wish to add yourself to these WikiProjects, place the templates on your userpage without the nocat=true parameter. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance. U.S. state of Texas

[edit]

Thanks for the compliment! I write such descriptions in two ways:

  • (Cityname or Countyname), Texas, United States — when there's just one
  • (Citynames or Countynames) in the U.S. state of Texas — when there are two or more

This is simply because "the cities of A and B, Texas, United States" and "A and B Counties, Texas, United States" sound very awkward to me, but I prefer "Placename, Texas, United States" because "Placename, Texas" is the more common usage and because it's much smoother to append "United States" to the end of such a statement. However, I don't remember ever seeing a policy, guideline, or essay precisely on the subject. We have a page that says to provide context for international readers by telling the name of the country (but I can't remember what it's called), and WP:UNDERLINK says that we should provide links to "relevant connections to the subject of another article that will help readers understand the article more fully" — the USA or US state, Texas, and the city and county are all these, so all should be linked. As a result, the edit you reverted simply isn't as helpful (especially since "United States" is better than "USA", or why else would our article be at United States) as the form that you prefer. Thanks you for the references and help on AJS. So would an article on the Seguin Conservation Society be noteworthy enough?? The Seguin "Riverwalk" project and completion was an inspiration for Hugman to design another. Dan DLS Texas (talk) 19:46, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Have you thought about requesting Autopatrolled status for yourself? Seems like you've created enough articles. The Sequin Walnut Springs Park is a really nice article. "Noteworthy" is often how well you can document what you create, so that it will stand up against a challenge. Personally, I'm a fan of area conservation societies, whatever name they go by. These are the groups that preserve the history and environment of any given area. If you think you have the documentation, go for it. You might know I created San Antonio Conservation Society. I've been working up to the Woman's Club of San Antonio but don't yet have as many sources as I want on that. These organizations are the backbone of any area. — Maile (talk) 20:24, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

[edit]
Hi, I just want to say I'm genuinely sorry about my botched GA review. When I started, I knew I was going away this saturday (have to be at the airport for 4 in the morning), but what I didn't think of was I have to start getting ready now... It's a school trip to a music festival for 5 days.

I think the work you've done on Saengerfest is great, and its wonderful you've expanded the article and put it up for GA. WP's coverage on music is generally not as good as other areas (particularly science and millitary history). GA is just a standard; even if the article doesn't get the green blob, you've still expanded it with high quality, referenced content. Your work has improved another article and makes readers realise "well, WP isn't as bad as we think".

Best of luck with the nomination, and I hope we meet again in the future. Best wishes, RainCity471 (whack!) 19:17, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

It's been good to have your insight on the nomination as far as you were able to take it. Thank you for your time.— Maile (talk) 20:50, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
It's ok, and thank you for being very quick to respond. I'm sorry I didn't see the instructions at WT:GAN for putting the article back in the review queue and that you had to do it. (I have some time now but as I don't know how much editing I can do, I decided to resign when I still had time.) Best wishes, RainCity471 (whack!) 14:16, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

Editor of the Week

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week, for extensive work at DYK. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:Matty.007 submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate Maile66 as Editor of the Week for her incredible work on article promotion. She has helped 73 articles be featured in the 'Did you know' section of the main page; no mean feat (especially presently). She often contributes helpful comments on the DYK talk page, helping with ideas and new editors to the process, but doesn't let her standard of quality drop. She has helped get Audie Murphy and Audie Murphy honors and awards to featured status and she even managed to get a DYK out of the topic. Her 40,000 edits over 7-and-a-half years receive too little appreciation for their scale. She is truly a great editor. In all, thousands of gnomish and not-so-gnomish edits have massively benefited not only DYK, but also other areas such as the hugely important Murphy articles. Sublime.

You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

Thank you for an outstanding award! 2016 had a good start for classical music, with a Bach cantata (a day late) and an opera reflecting that we should take nothing to seriuz, - Verdi's wisdom, shown on New Year's Day, also as a tribute to Viva-Verdi. Hi Maile, this is to thank you for becoming an administrator so you could work on the DYK queues! I saw how you adroitly promoted the sets around the P6 set that you had filled, in the absence of another admin. Your efforts to keep the DYK wheels moving are very appreciated! Thank you for your input- after a 4 year hiatus spent clawing through an undergrad, your contribution sets a good example for how to contribute to a discussion in an organized, rational fashion. If you don't drink alcohol, consider this a butterbeer. Otherwise, just beer. Cheers! Di4gram (talk) 22:41, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

Happy New Year!

[edit]
A wish for the new year
A quote from Gargantua and Pantagruel by Rabelais; it is taken from the manuscript of Jules Massenet's opera Panurge, in the composer's own hand. It is my greeting of choice for the new year, because it encourages us to live joyfully, and try not to take life too seriously...while quaffing whatever beverage we choose, naturally. This has been a challenging year, to say the least; I hope that 2021 may bring a fresh start, and better days ahead. May the new year bring you joy and peace...and many days of fruitful editing.

The Barnstar of Good Humor
"Who are they influencing - classmates, their pet dog?" I really liked this when you were describing the issue with the term influencer. It makes a really good point while also being slightly humorous (which in my opinion mainly comes the the "their pet dog?" part). ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 03:15, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

It seems that you have written 50 (and many more) Did You Knows and no one has noticed. That can never be the case, thousands of people will have seen your DYKs and thousands will know just a bit more. You have improved the front page, the DYK project, and to top it all, helped to build an amazing free educational resource. So thanks Victuallers (talk) 10:42, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
