Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Trinidad and Tobago cuisine, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Soda (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

An extended welcome

[edit]

Hi Arimaboss. Welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you don't mind if I share some of my thoughts on starting out as a new editor on Wikipedia: If I could get editors in your situation to follow just one piece of advice, it would be this: Learn Wikipedia by working only on non-contentious topics until you have a feel for the normal editing process and the policies that usually come up when editing casually. You'll find editing to be fun, easy, and rewarding. The rare disputes are resolved quickly and easily.

Working on biographical information about living persons is far more difficult. Wikipedia's Biographies of living persons policy requires strict adherence to multiple content policies, and applies to all information about living persons including talk pages.

If you have a relationship with the topics you want to edit, then you will need to review Wikipedia's Conflict of interest policy, which may require you to disclose your relationship and restrict your editing depending upon how you are affiliated with the subject matter.

Some topic areas within Wikipedia have special editing restrictions that apply to all editors. It's best to avoid these topics until you are extremely familiar with all relevant policies and guidelines.

I hope you find some useful information in all this, and welcome again. --Ronz (talk) 23:31, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Trinidad and Tobago into Demographics of Trinidad and Tobago. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 19:06, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

I noticed that in a recent series of edits you have been assigning "Hindu" religion to figures such as Vyasa, Agastya and /or changing their infobox template to {{Infobox person}} etc. This is both anachronistic and unhelpful. Please stop. Abecedare (talk) 07:33, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Seems a little biased that changing the infobox to person is “anachronistic and unhelpful” but the on the pages of Jesus, Moses, and Muhammed are all using the person infobox. Arimaboss (talk) 07:45, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Arimaboss: the name of templates is just internal wiki-code, so I don't really care what's the name of the template that we use for such articles. The issue is that templates such as {{Infobox character}}, {{Infobox deity}} etc provide fields that are often pertinent to these articles. Changing these infoboxes to {{Infobox person}} to try and establish the "reality" of such figures is both pointy and pointless. If you wish to argue that, say, Agastya, was a historical figure do so directly in the article while citing reliable sources. Abecedare (talk) 07:59, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, re: this, if you're going to edit film articles (or any articles) you should be familiar with the various guidelines expected from the infobox templates. Please see Template:Infobox film and familiarise yourself with the instructions for each parameter. We don't add country links or language links, for instance. Thank you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 05:04, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I gave you some advice earlier that if you plan to edit infoboxes, you should probably famliarise yourself with the various parameter instructions, so you should also familiarise yourself with Template:Infobox person. Also, I'm not going to link every infobox you should be familiar with, so if you find yourself about to edit one, go into the search box and type "Template:" then whatever the name of the template is that you are interested in.

In these edits I don't think you're using the |nationality= parameter correctly. Akshay Kumar's nationality is ostensibly Indian, since he was born in India, yet he has Canadian citizenship. Per the template instructions, "Should only be used with |citizenship= when they differ." So since we already mention Canadian as his citizenship, it doesn't make sense to add it to nationality.

Also, I'm unclear why you made a conscious decision to put the word present in italics in |years_active=. What exactly does that mean to you? Because I've never seen present marked in italics in that field. We typically only italicise major works like films and books and albums and TV series, and non-English words. See MOS:ITALICS.

Lastly, I don't think the |nickname= parameter is intended to be used for cute nicknames applied by the media. I don't see "King of Pop" in that field at Michael Jackson. You might want to look around Featured Articles to get a sense of proper usage. Thank you.Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:48, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Edits in language articles

[edit]

You have added a lot incorrect/unreferenced information to articles on Indian languages: Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Hindi etc. Specifically the official status of languages, in the case of Nepal only Nepali enjoys official/special status; the constitution declares all languages as national which is extremely vague and does not indicate the status of a language at an official level at all. @Austronesier: explained the same in edit summaries to you. Neither does being recorded in censuses indicate a minority protection status which is a specific case and only applies when govts. make special provision for that. So please do not arbitrarily add these to infoboxes.

You have also done the same with regards to scripts for languages, just because Hindi/Urdu have defined Brailles does not mean it applies to other related languages as well (Fiji Hindi, Caribbean Hindustani). Similar with Kaithi and Perso-Arabic scripts for immigrant languages, these were never used for the langs. Please do not add unreferenced info to infoboxes.

Also avoid adding unnecessary scripts as you did at Mughal Empire and Pur (placename element), this only adds to script clutter and adds nothing to the article (the WP:INDICSCRIPTS policy was created for this only, though it doesn't necessarily apply here). Gotitbro (talk) 06:30, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You are again adding unreferenced scripts to infoboxes, please do not do this. Also, you have been linking Indian to Indian people in leads and infoboxes of biographical articles. This is unneeded WP:OVERLINKING, please desist from doing this. I would advice you to revert such additions and not make such edits further. Gotitbro (talk) 10:01, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Community guidelines

[edit]

Re: this where you again needlessly generate a link to Indian people, you have been warned of this before, and you have also been pointed to {{Infobox person}} where you are expected to become familiar with the infobox instructions. Per that template, it refers to the |birth_place= parameter for instructions, and one of those instructions is "Countries should generally not be linked." Your erroneous edits are causing more work for others and it would be really unfortunate if you had your editing privileges interrupted for something so stupid. Manually reverted edits of yours on Jawaharlal Nehru

[edit]

Hey, I manually reverted your recent edits on J. Nehru's article due to a possible violation of MOS:HONOR. Honorific prefixes are usually not included with an article subject's name, with a rare exception being granted in cases where the honorific is so "commonly attached to a name that the name is rarely found in English reliable sources without it." Till now the consensus from the editors of Nehru's article is that this isn't the case with Nehru and the honorific prefix 'Pandit.' Nehru's association with 'Pandit' is in fact mentioned a few lines below in the lead itself, so I hope you don't have any concerns. —I'llbeyourbeach (talk) 15:45, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Recognised minority language

[edit]

This parameter in language infoboxes is specifically meant where institutional support is there for a minority language. As per past discussions, the Nepal Constitution recognizing all mother tongues decidely does not fall into this. You have already been reverted in the past for this, please do not add this infoboxes. The only languages receiving official and institutional recognition in Nepal are Nepalese and Newari even therein the demands for the latter's haven't been met. No other language should be treated as recognized in Nepal.

Further, your addition of Nepal Academy to infoboxes citing this, publishing books in a language does not mean an organization is doing any regulatory act. When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please either provide attribution in this case, or identify the source article so that someone else can do it. An article you recently created, List of Indo-Caribbeans, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Kenneth A. Jessell requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://trustees.fiu.edu/_assets/docs/2022/agendas/complete-agenda-full-board-meeting-10.17.22.pdf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Please start using edit summaries right now

[edit]

You have been politely asked at least five times on this page to use edit summaries, and yet you still hardly ever do. Please start doing it right now, so others don't have to waste more time uselessly asking you to. The summaries provide important information to people browsing article histories. Bishonen | tålk 07:33, 4 May 2023 (UTC).[reply]

Arimboss, you have been reminded numerous times about the need for leaving edit summaries; in fact, about 15 times by my rough count of the messages on this page including by Bishonen just yesterday. Unfortunately, after seeming to mend your summary usage for three edits you have reverted to the bad old ways including, for example, offering no explanation for these unsourced additions to a WP:FA. This needs to change. So if you resume editing without consistently using informative edit-summaries, blocks of escalatory length are likely. Abecedare (talk) 00:33, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Arimboss, you have resumed editing without edit-summaries, which is particularly troublesome since you also appear to be involved in a slow edit-war to reinsert material in infoboxes, without any explanation, that was only recently removed by Redtigerxyz with explanations (as seen in recent history of Ganesha, Kartikeya, Shiva etc). Though I am not involved in the current dispute, I have previously edited some of these articles; so I am pinging @Bishonen: to see if/what sanction would be appropriate. Abecedare (talk) 17:11, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Arimboss, as before you have resumed the slow-editwarring w/o any edit-summaries or explanation as in at Rama ([1], [2]) even though my previous edit-summary mentioned that I was removing Shanta from the infobox as undue. Please self-revert and take it to the talkpage if you wish. Abecedare (talk) 22:37, 27 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
