Licensing help

I'm working on improving Battle of Byram's Ford to get to GA and hopefully beyond, and it would be nice to include File:Battle of the Blue by Benjamin D. Mileham.jpg in the article, but there's some licensing difficulties. Painted in 1896, but I haven't been able to establish a true publishing date before then, and I'm struggling to find info on the painter to see if they've been dead 70 years. The Benjamin D. Mileham's I've been able to find are all too late to be that painter, except for a coach painter from Topeka born in 1851. This is an 1896 newspaper article referring to the painting being purchased and intended to be donated to the county and that Mileham was an employee of the Santa Fe, the company that put out the directory stating that Mileham was a coach painter born in 1851. And the painting was described as the "worst horror hung in a public place" in 1898. So would this be good on both ends - painter almost certainly dead for 70 years due to being born in 1851 and presumeably published before 1926 since it was the "worst horror hung in a public place" in 1898? Hog Farm, Unfortunately, just being displayed wouldn't count as publication under US law. I searched on Google Books to see if I could find any early publications, but could not. This is a gray area because if it wasn't published until Internet age (and we could confirm a death date), then it would be PD-old-auto-unpublished[1], but it's usually impossible to prove lack of publication. I'm assuming this which shows a death date of 1927 probably isn't reliable enough. Find A Grave also gives 1851-1927 and has a picture of his tombstone, but that's not any better. Hog Farm _Talk 05:13, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

Yeah, there's no real good connection to be made, so I'll need to remove the image from the article. The "Benjamin C Mileham" is supposedly Benjamin D.'s son (the latter is mentioned further down in the page), but even with that, there's no real proof that its the right person with only a birth year, the name, and a connection to Kansas. Spy-cicle, Actually, per WP:RfC, "An RfC should last until enough comment has been received that consensus is reached, or until it is apparent it won't be." In this case the consensus is very clear. Since the concern of opposers was about long-term significance, if Glover's comments are covered by secondary sources in the future it might make sense to revisit the discussion, but I don't see any benefit from reopening the RfC. Hi! Thanks for closing the RM at Talk:Ryanair_Flight_4978#Requested_move_25_May_2021. I saw that your closing statement stated in part, There is not presently a consensus to move to Arrest of Roman Protasevich, although there might be in the future. I think this conclusion is premature, since the previous RM discussion was addressing whether to rename to a different title, "Forced grounding of Ryanair Flight 4978". While there were editors, myself included, who discussed potentially renaming to "Arrest of Roman Protasevich", not all participants in the discussion addressed that proposal.

I'm thinking of initiating a new RM to rename the article to "Arrest of Roman Protasevich". Would you have concerns about this? I want to ensure that I follow the proper procedures in terms of respecting the outcome of the RM you closed, while also avoiding the WP:MR process. Also pinging Melmann for notification. Friendly advice

Buidhe look, you know I value you as an editor, and the last thing I want to see is you being somehow sanctioned from editing the Holocaust topic. You know how easy it is to be sanctioned and how hard it is to have those sanctions removed later. I think you should correct yourself here[2] and stop digging a giant hole that eventually might be used against you by some people. The source says nothing of the sort you wrote; I think you should admit to the mistake and correct it. The longer this goes on, the bigger chances are that someone will bring that into the AE board, and you know how that might go. Roll the dice. • Prhartcom, The regular GAN tab lists both unreviewed nominations and those that are under review, whereas SDZeroBot only lists those that are waiting for a review. I'm not sure how many people will be able to make sense of "Nominations [Alt GAN Sorting]". Something like "Nominations (annotated)" or "Nominations (alternate)" might also be easier to understand. I will keep this on my todo list and could provide you with a brief proposal (time target not provided ;-). I do not have the sources at present, but as you probably realized I have a lot of information on this huge topic in my memory. I wrote nearly all articles in the German WP which are related to "Forced Disappearance" and the south-america-wide cruel phenomenon of the 'Desaparecidos' some years ago, and these are well sourced, also partly with engl. literature. I stopped for reasons of personal mental sanity (the subject is partly nearly sickness inducing), and there is still a lot of white space which could be filled. Lembit Staan, There's certainly a lot more to say about the topic in reliable sources, although you'd have to go digging (Kamenec's book goes into the most detail but isn't easy to find). An article needing some attention: Gestapo–NKVD conferences

As a long-term lurker of Wikipedia editions in various languages, I have noticed you are a prolific editor in the topics of antisemitism, World War II and persecutions. I similarly noticed you've also edited this article: Gestapo–NKVD conferences, that admittedly has sparked my interest a while ago. I've commented on several issues related to this article (Talk:Gestapo–NKVD_conferences#This_article_is_deficient,_based_on_unfounded_rumours), but unfortunately I didn't really gather that much feedback.

I was informed today that users with fewer than 500 edits are subjected to some restrictions, so I just wanted to make clear that I personally wanted to nominate said article for deletion but I am prohibited from doing so. I did however raise the issue and advocate for deletion on Russian Wikipedia a few hours ago (it's pretty obvious these poor quasi-hoax articles on various language editions all derive from the 2007 version of the English language Wikipedia). Potugin, I'm sorry you've run into editing restriction. I don't have time to look into this issue at the moment, but my advice would be to use the template {{edit extended-protected}} on the talk page. State that you'd like to nominate the article for deletion and give the rationale. If it's not protected, I would just go ahead and nominate for deletion directly, I don't see why this would fall under the topic area that is supposed to need it. RGloucester, The move was originally moved by you, undiscussed. Shortly afterward, it was contested on the talk page. That would be the correct occasion to move the page back, as it was disputed, and open a formal RM. Since the move was disputed and consensus was never established for it, it can't be considered the stable version.

In order to be successful a move request would have to 1) explain why WP:POVTITLE doesn't apply, 2) delineate a specific scope according to reliable sources that doesn't overlap too much with other articles, and 3) show why your proposed name meets WP:CRITERIA better than alternative names. It was not truly disputed, for it were 1) it would've been moved back 2) requested to be moved at RM/TR or 3) an RM would've been opened. More importantly, the article remained stable long after that section was opened. Having been stable is itself a form of consensus. It is unacceptable to use the page mover right in such a manner, and more importantly, you have no standing to determine what would make an RM 'successful' (you are not a neutral party in what is now a 'dispute'). Reverting undiscussed moves is acceptable regardless of the means used to do so. The fact that Heptor did not move the page or file at a certain venue, which they perhaps don't even know exists, does not negate the fact that they challenged the move. This is not correct. Undiscussed moves are not inherently any less valid than discussed moves. Consensus can be established through editing. Indeed, if someone had immediately reverted the move, then one could say that you would be correct. This is not what happened. You are the one that has made the undiscussed move, away from the stable title of more than half a year, using the page mover tool to gain an upper hand in a dispute. Again, I suggest you consider your position. I would also suggest that you not speak on behalf of Heptor, an editor of an unsavoury type of that I reckon you'd rather not be associated with. It's acceptable to use pagemover tools to revert undiscussed moves, something that comes up enough that it has a dedicated section on RM/TR. If it's acceptable to list something there and have someone else move it, logically it is acceptable to perform this move directly. Being at a certain title for some months does not inherently mean it is the stable title. Stable means it has consensus (or at least WP:Silence) and for this title, it never did.

Hello. Apologies for this random message. I have a question about the following image (File:Foxybrowndior.jpg). Does everything seem okay with it and would it be appropriate to use in an article? I am uncertain as it is a promotional image of the artist and I have not really seen promotional images like this in WikiMedia commons. I am curious about this as I would like to have a FA about a song by this individual on the front page. That article is currently this image (File:Foxy brown-03-mika.jpg) and the one linked above is just more visually interesting in my opinion. However, I wanted to get a more well-informed opinion about this prior to do any substitutions. I am likely over-thinking this, but any insight would be greatly appreciated. (talk page stalker) I don't have Buidhe's depth of expertise here, but what you want to do for a press photo like that is to confirm it's actually released under said license. A good way to do this is to get in contact with the copyright holders and ask them to send a license release to c:COM:OTRS. As it stands, images like this are often just uploaded by unconnected people who don't understand image copyright (the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license specifically can be suggestive of this, as it's the default license in the Commons upload wizard and a lot of people just assume "oh, that must be the way images on the internet are copyrighted" if they don't know anything about the topic.) Easier way to see a page's move history?

Hello Buidhe. I asked this question at Wikipedia:Help desk but got no response, so I thought I'd ask you since you're active at WP:RM and have probably run into the same problem.

I've been using the move log tool, but it's cumbersome because you have to enter the former name of the page rather than the current name (so you have to dig through the page's history to find its original name), and it only shows one entry at a time. Is there anywhere I can see an article's entire move history in one place?

I suggest particularly on: Miroslaw Szekalis, the mayor of Trzebieszow, where a motion to reject “LGBT ideology” was passed last year, defended the town’s decision. “Neither I, nor any of the council members ... have a reason to be ashamed,” he told Reuters. While the motions are largely symbolic, they can be intimidating for members of the LGBT community. Municipalities and regions that have rejected LGBT “ideology” cover nearly a third of the country.. The reason I used bullet points is because of what it says in MOS:PARA: "Short paragraphs and single sentences generally do not warrant their own subheading; in such circumstances, it may be preferable to use bullet points instead."
