DYK for Norman Kamaru

Fut.Perf. 11:38, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

would have been easier to take it to talk. MOst of the stuff is not copyvio, but you shouldnt be wholescale reomoving EVERYTHING on presumption that it "coukld be other sources too" part of the stuff was a list and it requires proper nounces otherwise other stuff was reworded. See Talk:Sixty-sixth session of the United Nations General Assembly/TempLihaas (talk) 04:00, 22 September 2011 (UTC).

Im just being BOLD and putting in the newer version as there is no copyvio prob. Go ahead and shorten the quote if you want, i have no issues with that.(Lihaas (talk) 03:20, 23 September 2011 (UTC)).

Image for DYK hook

NB: The hook image for Do Right Woman, Do Right Man does not appear in the article. DYK requires that the image be used in the article. --Orlady (talk) 14:53, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Was ALT1 overlooked for Prep 1 item on John Palocaren?

FYI, I added this text at the DYK talk page (DIFF):

Hello, I'm not sure who I should address this to. Crisco1492 reviewed my self-nom hook on John Palocaren and then moved it to Prep Area 1. In his reviewer comments (see Template:Did_you_know_nominations/John_Palocaren) he said he agreed with me in preferring my ALT1. But then when he BUILT the Prep (DIFF) he used the original hook. I wonder if this was a mistake. I'd still recommend ALT1.

Do Right Woman, Do Right Man

Just a heads-up. Billboard's site is horribly broken and doesn't list a lot of chart positions. If you want to verify its peak, I'd say get one of the Pop books by Joel Whitburn. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 01:45, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

Next big topic, after eternal life, smile. Thanks for looking. I added a source, German unfortunately, and expanded the structure of one movement. Japanese scrolls

Yeah, I emailed Bamse more than a day ago to squeeze more of a journalistic story out of him, but he must be offline. Getting a bit late unless publications is delayed tomorrow. Could you read the caption carefully: did I get it right about the divine insect representing evil? It's a complex image, and I have trouble picking out what's what. Are we looking at a giant moth attacking a silkworm? Who are the figures grasped by the claws of the moth? Who are the human figures to the right? Any reason the landscape is so plain? There's something like a building under the green mountain. Would love to explain all of this briefly to the readers.

And it's really a fabulous featured topic, isn't it. Tony (talk) 13:25, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

All Your Love

The album has been released, but I just did not get enough time to update it yet, I have find the sources but not time. Will it be possible for it to be released as DYK if I finish the article by Friday? Thanx in advance! ^_^ SyFuelIgniteBurned 18:26, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

I have updated the article. I have contacted a person whether she's willing to provide the image where the said artist and her stepson launching the album, if it is a success, I probably will add the picture to the hook. XD SyFuelIgniteBurned 15:01, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
Nevermind, take your time, the person has uploaded the picture but for the wrong license, for now all I can do is wait and once she changed it to the appropriate one, I can add a picture to the hook. Here's the picture: http://www.flickr.com/photos/58822548@N06/6199706944/ taken during the official launch.SyFuelIgniteBurned 15:48, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
I downloaded the picture, and it looks okay when it was small. Just waiting for the person to change the license if she's willing to do it. Anyway, terima kasih for your edit! Saya rasa sangat terhutang budi. ^_^ SyFuelIgniteBurned 20:16, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
Finally!! I got the picture!! It is there, in the article, I have uploaded it it, just I'm not so sure how to add the picture to the nomination. SyFuelIgniteBurned 08:14, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

P.S. Ton français est très correct. --Bgag (talk) 21:36, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Crisco 1492. You closed Template:Did you know nominations/Dewi Persik, your own nomination, and moved it to Template:Did you know/Preparation area 4 with several other hooks. I ask you not to move your own hooks to the prep areas because of the inherent conflict of interest in doing so. I noticed that you placed your hook second on the list. While you moved the hooks to prep four in the order in which you closed the DYK nominations discussions, placing your hook second could give the impression that you are placing your own hook in the second most visible position.

Please let another user move your hooks to the DYK prep in the future. Thank you, Cunard (talk) 03:15, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Cunard, and thanks for the note. In the middle of the DYK fiasco a couple months ago, I did avoid promoting my hooks. However, as I was the only one actually building preps for about four days, my hooks kept piling up (five, if I remember correctly). At the time, another editor (I forget who) suggested that I not be afraid to promote my own hooks, so long as I did not do it out of order. I agree that it is preferable to avoid promoting ones hooks too much, but if they are promoted in order and other editors seem to be ignoring the preps it should be alright. As a side note, the second most visible position is actually the last hook (the second hook is quite often cramped because of the image), which is why the last place is suggested to be saved for something that is truly unique; to address your concerns, I have switched the Nunn and Persik hooks, putting Persik in the middle and Nunn second. Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:07, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
Your explanation justifies your promoting your own hook. Because there are few people moving hooks to the prep area at DYK, I suppose it is okay for you to promote your own hooks. (I myself do not move hooks because I do not have the time to read all the articles moved the the prep area, and I do not feel comfortable promoting to the main page articles I have not read.)

In the future, I recommend that you let 48 hours pass from the hook's being approved before moving it to the prep area. Hopefully an editor will, within that timeframe, move the hook to the queue in that time. If there is no action in two days, then there is clearly a backlog, and it would be appropriate for you to move the hook.

Thank you for your hard work at DYK. You and Orlady seem to be the only editors actively reviewing the hooks at this time. Cunard (talk) 07:22, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

  • Fair enough, I think. It seems to me that nominators are being more diligent about reviewing older hooks; they no longer exclusively look at the recently nominated articles. Thanks for keeping an eye on some of these nominations; I think the Persik hook and Alaska Memorial articles were improved greatly. Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:28, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Thank you for your kind words about my minor work at DYK. I tend to review the older articles and close them as "no consensus to promote" if the nominators are unresponsive or the articles are too deficient. That clears the page for the newer hooks. Cunard (talk) 07:36, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Bergmann Hotel DYK?

It says here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Did_you_know_nominations/Bergmann_Hotel that you promoted my Did You Know? nomination for the Bergmann Hotel on the Main Page, but I don't see it anywhere. Did I miss it entirely? I double checked. Perhaps the listings take a while to appear? Thanks! AlaskaMike (talk) 18:10, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

The word "promoted" in the template is a misnomer, as nominations don't get promoted to the main page immediately. To check your nomination's progress, see Template:Did you know/Queue. (It is scheduled to go to the main page in roughly 6 hours from now.) --Orlady (talk) 18:33, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
  • What Orlady said. In DYK, the term "promoted" means that it has been moved to one of the four preparation areas (also known as "preps"). From there, it has time to be checked even further until it is moved to the queues, which then are eventually featured on the main page. (Side note: As I am not an admin, I would not be able to put any hooks on the main page directly; the template is protected with cascading protection from the main page). Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:06, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
Got it, thank you. I found it. Thank you both. :-) AlaskaMike (talk) 23:09, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Wikimedia Indonesia pilot project

Hi, Crisco 1492. I don't think we've actually met, but I have noticed your work on articles about Indonesia and templates. The article on Sitti Nurbaya has prompted me to buy the book :)

I am writing to let you know about a Wikimedia Indonesia pilot project: On Friday October 7, the first session will take place in a new three month collaboration between Wikimedia Indonesia and the Lontar Foundation that hopes to create 300 new articles about Indonesian writers, their works, and related foundations and organizations. See you around. Regards, --Dianna (talk) 18:41, 6 October 2011 (UTC) I saw your enquiry of the 15th ult. and made the following reply:

On en:wikipedia you will need a BRFA if you intend to create more than "about 25-50 pages". Botpol does not specify in what period. On other wikis different rules may apply. In terms of notability, if the article does not make a reasonable claim to notability for the subject, it risks being speedied. BLP requires that material about living people is sourced, and that should not be hard. Rich Farmbrough, 12:10, 7 October 2011 (UTC).
