Igor Sabo author of Exwog page[edit]

Hi, Deb. Why you delete page about Exwog program? It is a real program and information about it is correct. I am an author of Exwog program and want to add it to list of reporting software. Nissan UConnect[edit]

Deb, I am trying to assemble information on all of the computer systems that are in all cars. I was hoping to get input from Wikipedians in this endeavor. I do not work for any car company. I am evaluating them all. In fact, I work for the Center for Distracted Driving at the University of Utah. Your deletion of this article undermines my efforts to assemble all of this data. Would it be better to assemble one article about ALL car systems? Why is it that there can be an article on the Toyota Prius, but not on the computer systems inside of the Toyota Prius? Is it not noteworthy?

Please advise. This information deserves to be on Wikipedia in some form. I need input from people who may own these cars and have used these systems to get the information correct. There is lots of this sort of information on Wikipedia, but it is incomplete and I am attempting to fill in the gaps. Other articles haven't been deleted only because they don't have the name of the company in the title, but fill exactly the same role. Kellycoinguy (talk) 19:53, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Also, is there any way to retrieve the text you deleted? Kellycoinguy (talk) 19:56, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I can see that at least part of my problem is that I used Kellycoinguy rather than my old user name KellyCoinGuy and gave the impression that I was a total newbie. Apologies, I hope to get a response at KellyCoinGuy. As an example of a similar article that HASN'T been deleted, there is MyFord Touch KellyCoinGuy (talk) 20:49, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Heinlein Society[edit]

Deb, I've been a Wikipedia editor since 2005. I've got barnstars. I was the coordinator of Intellipedia's Featured Article for over two years. I'm very familiar with notability guidelines. Please don't delete The Heinlein Society while I'm still working on it. Thanks for your advice about sandboxes and under construction flags. I'll use a sandbox. Now I wish you could send me the wikitext that I created. I've lost time due to this zealous deletion, but I will AGF. BonnyDoonBoy (talk) 16:12, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Undid recent contribution(s), but which ones?[edit]

Hi Deb, you just wrote a me a note stating that you had undone one or more of my recent contributions because they appeared to be promotional. I am surprised because I have not contributed anything since January, and this only after having gone back and forth with various editors to make sure that my entry was acceptable. I really felt that I had cut out everything that was not an objective fact and that could be backed up by the various objective sources that were cited. Unfortunately, you make no mention or give any kind of indication which entries or passages you "undid", so it is very difficult to get any kind of feel for the areas where you are passing judgement. 9 months after my last edit, I do not know exactly what my original wording was, or if the contributions that you undid were important enough to try to reword to your satisfaction. Is there any way you can give me a clue to what, specifically, you changed? Thanks. Deleted Page - 2008_Visual_Collaborative_Miami_Exhibition_(Pop-up)[edit]

Hello Deb

With respect to the difficult jobs volunteer admins do, the reason behind the deletion was vague and far from constructive. This article was not spam. it was well sourced with sufficient references. We appreciate a review of it contents or a restore. We are confident no wiki policies were violated. thanks for your prompt attention on this. It does take time putting one together and can appreciate a mature dialogue with your suggestions or acknowledge on what perhaps is a delete mistake. Blessings. - Mnanonymous

No one has suggested it was spam. There were two references, neither of which was independent. Your use of "we" suggests that more than one person is contributing under your username. This is contrary to wikipedia policy. Deb (talk) 19:06, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deb,

I believe that the CoderDojo movement is of global significance and request that the page be unlocked so that people can recreate it. As a founder of the movement, which is a charity, I promise I will not edit the page or cause others to put content I control on there as I do understand the wikipedia rules and respect them deeply. I can say that thousands and thousands of people world wide are or have been involved and even a short search in Google will return you numerous independent media articles about CoderDojo. Your assistance in this matter would be appreciated I am sure that there will be enough people willing to contribute once the lock down is removed. My two sons who attend CoderDojo are also keen to contribute without my influence - Bill Liao Co-Founder CoderDojo.

I have no recollection of this article or of deleting or protecting it. However, at the moment it's reading like a blatant advert and needs to be cleaned up PDQ if you don't want it deleted (again?). Deb (talk) 08:30, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deb, Thank you for replying about the CoderDojo page, I can see you have to deal with a lot of issues and don't have much time. I have removed the Philosophy section from the page as this seems to be the most noticeable non-neutral content. I hope this change is sufficient from your perspective as a moderator, if not I hope you can find the time to post a short note here. The CoderDojo movement has parallels with Football clubs, and each of the some 600 'Dojos' can be very proud of their own brand and at times may be over-zealous in their use of non-neutral language, it may be necessary for us to deal with the many different clubs in a similar fashion to List of association football clubs. - Lindsay MacVean (sometime CoderDojo volunteer) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lindsaymacvean (talkcontribs) 05:21, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted page - French Operations Research & Decision Support Society[edit]

I find it really rude that you deleted the French Operations Research society without any prior warning. The society is one of the largest Operations Research (OR) societies in Europe, and OR is a well established and recognized academic field. There have been some discussions going on about similar pages for other countries, that ended up being kept. So I don't understand the hurry in deleting this one. Unsigned post[edit]

Hi Deb, You deleted a page I was editing under the pretense that it was an advertisement, but from my perspective it's simply a means of informing the public about what the program is in action to do (help educate people who arent getting a full masters degree) and how this program affects the ever-changing business market. If that is an advertisement then wouldn't havard's page be an advertisement? As well as any band/musician page? They both tell the history of their topics, as I was doing on mine, as well as the affects they have on the ever-changing cultures they are associated with. I mentioned where it was started because that's the history of the program. I mentioned how the certificates are becoming more accepted so people can see how the educational system and business executive growth models are both changing and how this kind of program may become more and more prevalent, giving way to more optional learning that gives similar lessons to graduate degrees, but not be the entire program a master's or doctorate takes. If talking about that program is an advertisement, any business described on wiki would also fall under that same category, would it not? I'm not at all angry, or trying to be rude. I just have to be very honest about the way I perceive the post I was working hard on and how your labelling it as an advertisement should not be a double standard. If that program cannot get its information posted on wikipedia because it's a program that's specific to a school, or a certain demographic, none of the businesses, musicians, non-profits, etc... should have that right then. It just feels like a double standard and with all due respect, I disagree with it being deleted for the reason that it was. Id appreciate if you would respond with rebuttals to my points here, as I believe them to be legitimate points. If you disagree, i respect that and look forward to learning why, but wikipedia is an information hub that covers many specific topics, businesses included. The standard should be the same for all of those topics, no? Thank you for your time. Sorry for rambling. I do get passionate when I feel smaller parties are being censored for an unjust reason, but this is in no way personal and I mean you no disrespect as a person, so please take this as a friendly, spirited debate post.

Hi Dev,

I would like to improve my page based on your comments. You are requested to again put my page back so that i can work on the same.

Hi Deb, You deleted Facilitated Application Specification Techniques- FAST page citing COI and promotions. A page existed with completely false information on it and I corrected it because I am the one who coined the term. I simply wanted the history and references to be correct so I cited the article that I wrote in 1985 that coined that phrase. I'm not promoting myself nor my company. I don't want incorrect information posted, though, especially about something that I did. Please reconsider - let me know what needs to be removed to make it non-promotional. August 2015 - Edit warring / Richmond Pharmacology[edit]

Hi Deb, Jytdog, All - I apologize for the lack of communication, I have being trying to gain a clearer understanding of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I am the marketing manager for Richmond Pharmacology and our recent edits to the page created by JzG, were done in good faith. We felt the original content was intended to put the company in bad light following recent legal proceedings with the HRA. Our reasons for recent edits made are as follows:

1. The omission of academic research is unreasonable, as its factual and referenced. Therefore it is a removal of relevant and factual information presumably motivated by the malicious intent to smear the organisation.

2. The reference to Metro provided does not support that Richmond pays up to £2,000 therefore this a pure fabrication by the Wikipedia contributor. The article asks the question whether £2,000 are enough to be a guinea pig and Richmond Pharmacology is mentioned there.

3. The Dhaliwal case is misrepresented as the reference clearly states the borderline nature; a far cry from “won” which suggests that she was awarded damages. The case is irrelevant to the entry and not reflective of the organisation. It has presumably been added by JzG out of malicious intent to lower the reputation of the organisation and its officers.

All the text provided in our recent edits is factual and to the point and unlike previous editions are well referenced. We welcome new additions so long as they are balanced. We also welcome your recommendation on how to improve the content so that it is completely neutral and complies with your COI policy.

Please kindly advise how we can resolve this amicably.

But it's their applicator robotics which I found interesting, and for which they have won several awards, the trophies for which I saw with my own eyes, and on which I wanted to write as soon as I get the details in email.

NEW BEACON SCHOOL[edit]

New Beacon School.

Deb, I would be interested to know if you have any connection with New Beacon School, paid or otherwise. I would like to be sure that all bias is transparent in this article in which the sexual abuse of a minor is mentioned. I would like an explanation as to why and how Wiki is being used to continue the cover up of this sexual abuse case. Having read Guy Hamilton's note about editing, I have now reviewed the edits and it appears that you are the source writer and that you have made alterations to factually correct and well referenced edits. Is it also the case that you have semi protected this site? I would like to understand why you have apparently taken this stance against a victim of child sexual abuse, in favour of the public relations of the school. I refer particularly to the used of the word "claims", as noted below.

The Controversy section refers to the alleged cover up of sexual abuse of a boy at the school. The site has now been semi protected. This

This section is biased in that it is stated that the Seveonaoks Chronicle "claims"....... The word "claims" should be replaced with the word reported. The Newspaper made no claims, merely reported the proven facts. The word "claims" is a piece of blatant spin used by the author to minimise public perception of the schools behaviour in response to the award of by Criminial Injuries Compensation Authority in respect of sexual abuse of one of its pupils.

The word claimed is also used in respect of the perpetrator having been previously suspended. Again, the newspaper made no claims. It reported the facts. The words claimed should be changed to the word reported.

In the first sentence, the same "spin" technique is is used....."....a former pupil who claimed...." The use of the word claim implies doubt. The school has written to the child saying that did not doubt his testimony, but is saying another thing publicly. The sentence should be changed to "....a former pupil disclosed".

The page should not be an advertisement and public relations platform for the New Beacon School. It should be open to editing. Otherwise Wiki is being used by the school to protect its reputation in the very serious matter of the sexual abuse of children.

Kindly explain why the article has been edited in a way which repeats the schools one sided and misleading comments made in the press (for which the school has apologised) and is potentially damaging to the victim. Johnobrienuk (talk) 10:38, 31 August 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnobrienuk (talkcontribs)

To edictor Johnobrienuk -- I doubt that editor Deb has any connection to the school, though they should answer on their own. Would you please discuss the content of the article at its Talk page? To editor Deb I have been contacted also. I see that you have semi-protected the page and have been involved in back-and-forth editing for some time, perhaps protecting the page in another way. But what I don't understand is why there is no discussion at the Talk page. There's no sifting of any evidence. No consideration of balance of coverage. My first edits at the page and its Talk page might be seen as being on the whitewashing side, because I am looking for sources. But offhand I must say there's merit in Johnobrienuk's pointing to apology made by the school as being significant, IMO. That was in the article and now is not, if I understand correctly. My impression is that Johnobrienuk is a relatively new editor and does not see any proper example of Talk page discussion. Just looking at the one article, if I were a new editor I would think the way to proceed is to lobby on the side and to believe that is how things get done here. To both of you, please discuss specific items of content at the Talk page for a while, I request of you. Then eventually we can get around to discussing refinements of general tone when there is a properly sourced article with some consensus built up from discussion, hopefully. sincerely, --doncram 08:13, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid it wasn't. But I've done some work to remove the promotional content. If you see any other examples of articles with promotional content, please tag them accordingly so we can work on improving them also. Deb (talk) 10:36, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all the help Deb. I would really like to work with you to understand where exactly am I going wrong in building this page. I am 100% for maintaining the sanctity of Wikipedia, though existing pages from the payments industry are misleading. Some of them don't even have proper citations, but still exist, which is blatant advertising.

I appreciate your inputs to help me improve my first effort. This way I will be a solid contributor to Wikipedia henceforth. paritoshsharma (talk) 13:59, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Welsh-speaking royals[edit]

Hi Deb, I was curious to see you'd created Category:Welsh-speaking royals. Do either Charles or William actually speak good (or much) Welsh, or do they simply read pre-prepared translations etc.?? Sionk (talk) 15:46, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The bunch of em ned to start speaking English first! Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi 15:50, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Charles spent a term at Aberystwyth University in order to learn Welsh, prior to his investiture, and both he and William have made speeches in Welsh. I'm not saying their Welsh is perfect but it's probably better than mine! Charles was previously in the "Welsh-speaking people" category - one of the many who got "disappeared" by the monoglots. Deb (talk) 21:29, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And William?? As for Charles, no doubt the term studying Welsh history and language would have given him a reasonable awareness of the language, and something approaching correct pronounciation, but I doubt his 1969 speech was anything more than reading off a pre-prepared script. Ah well, I guess I've got bigger tastier fish to fry than nominating the category for deletion, but other people might raise an eyebrow. Sionk (talk) 18:26, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Curries Online Page Deletion??[edit]

Hi Deb, apologies if I have broken any guidelines of Wikipedia but I'm a new contributor so still finding my feet, so to speak... (I'm not even sure if this is the correct place to ask you a question?!?)

Your page move[edit]

I am not sure if your page move from Controversies of Fifty Shades of Grey to Critical response to Fifty Shades of Grey is appropriate, since the article is wholly negative. I split this from Fifty Shades of Grey since the section was WP:UNDUE compared to other parts of the article. Perhaps Criticism of Fifty Shades of Grey would be a more appropriate title? Also, would such a negative article in fact be inappropriate? Thanks! sstflyer 10:32, 25 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deb

I was writing an article about Hexagol which is a brand new 6-sided hexagonal cage for training kids how to play football. It wasn't meant to be promotional, it's just a thing we invented a few years ago. Totally unique and I was just creating a page for it because it is a thing! It is there, kids do learn how to play football and other sports with Hexagol and why it isn't in Wikipedia is beyond me. I'm quite a new user though have loved wikipedia for years but I don't understand why Hexagol (brand new word and concept invented by me) can't be described on the site?

DiaGenic[edit]

Hi. Please review your deletion of DiaGenic. I looked through the history of the page and it had better versions than the last one. Anyway, A7 did not apply since there was a claim of importance in the article (Even referenced) and G11 does not apply when you can revert to a neutral version. Rettetast (talk) 20:57, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked at it again and I still agree with the nominator. Blatantly promotional and only one independent reference. But there is nothing to stop you or anyone else from recreating it, provided that you address the reasons for deletion. Deb (talk) 22:17, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Meh. You do not address the fact that it did not meet the criteria for 'speedy deletion. The first version of the article was not promotional at all and was created by a well respected editor with hundred of articles created. If you do not object I am going to undelete it. And please make sure you actually use the criteria at WP:CSD before using the tools you are trusted. Process is important. Rettetast (talk) 00:30, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree with your assessment. If I did not believe that the article fully met the criteria for speedy deletion, I would not have speedy deleted it. And kindly don't threaten me. Deb (talk) 10:56, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Viking Life-Saving Equipment[edit]

Viking Life-Saving Equipment:

I don't tend to add frivolous articles. Many of the articles about non-English-speaking countries are quite unrepresented but important, as these types of things get 'passed over' by people (most people) who do not speak that language. Very few people speak Danish. The closest many people have come to conversing in a Scandinavian language is by listening to the Swedish Chef on The Muppets. Have you ever been to Scandinavia? Not many people have.

I have gathered that around 2,000 people work for this company - quite a lot for a firm that makes inflatable boats. It has sites all over the world, including a few in the UK, notably Aberdeen. Many North Sea oil rigs will have their equipment, for obvious reasons. I don't think many other firms do what it does. It's one of those industries, like Martin Baker ejection seats, where one firm has most of the business. I think you pulled the ejection handle too early. There may be competitors in the USA, but unlikely any in Europe. DinosaursLoveExistence (talk) 14:25, 18 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed I have been to Denmark, Sweden and Finland (Denmark and Sweden three times each) but I don't think that is the point. You described the company as "a world leader" and it seems you have no evidence for that other than the company's own promotional literature. It seems very difficult to find independent references for them. You are familiar with the policy on verifiability. I don't contest the company's notability but I will restore the article only in order to give you time to make the necessary improvements. Deb (talk) 14:46, 18 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Page[edit]

Eh, I take back what I said on my Talk page. You're one of the wikipedia article nazis too. Going around deleting articles without any consideration to the time and effort the writer has put into it, or attempts to actually comply with Wikipedias ToS, Policies, and Guidelines. Instead of helping writers, with any attempt to improve Wikipedia, or making suggestions on where articles could be improved, you delete them, because quite frankly, you all have a power trip, and feel that your decision, is the only and right decision. Instead of actually trying to make an article that is relevant, on a subject that people care about, or a trend that is growing in a particular space... if it's something you aren't familiar with, just delete it. I could point you to 10 articles right now that seem to be promotional, or ambiguous --- why do they not get deleted? Because someone in the Wikipedia secret society approved it? I'm sorry, but it's wrong how you treat new writers, and it's one of the largest flaws of this site. Cthood (talk) 15:31, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, you don't like that I actually took the trouble to tell you that I'd deleted your article and why? Okay, fine, carry on the way you are - you'll find you'll soon be blocked if you throw around insults like that. Deb (talk) 15:50, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, you deleted it without giving me the opportunity to solve the issue. I had no opportunity to respond to your why. The real shame in this "community" of legitimate "contributors" is that it's your way, or no way. Why there isn't a process by which to resolve issues before they are arbitrarily deleted is appalling. Cthood (talk) 16:32, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciate Your Response[edit]

Deb, thank you for helpful response after the speedy deletion of a page I was working on. Your response made perfect sense. My intention is not advertising or soapbox-ing, and I am fully aware and appreciative of Wikipedia's charter. Per your suggestion, I re-read the Welcome Page which notes that "Wikipedia is allowed to be imperfect," as we all are, and my imperfection this morning is that I did not fully understand that Wikipedia's verbatim advice to "Add the template Draft article, //Draft article//, at the top of the draft (not the talk page)" in order to create a draft was not 100% accurate. My intention is to edit what I had previously written to meet all of Wikipedia's guidelines and your review, as well. Towards that end, I would ask for a second chance. Since I am not sure who has the authority to provide second chances, I have separately asked User:3 of Diamonds, who flagged the entry for speedy deletion, to assist me by restoring the page into a proper draft mode with the caveat that he or she may review the final entry, and I request the same of you with a similar offer to judge, not in haste, but after I have completed the entry. You appeared to have deleted my addition 'It helps to read the passage from his book as well as his Declaration to see if this action was just due to depression or was part of his angry planned anti-war protest and his disgust about the significance of war medals. ″ Wandering along the sand dunes I felt outlawed, bitter and, baited. I wanted something to smash and trample on, and to a paroxysm of exasperation I performed the time-honoured gesture of shaking my clenched fists at the sky. Feeling no better for that, I ripped the M. C. ribbon off my tunic and threw it into the mouth of the Mersey. Weighted with significance though this action was, it would have felt more conclusive had the ribbon been heavier. As it was, the poor little thing fell weakly on to the water and floated away as though aware of its own futility. One of my point-to-point cups would have served my purpose more satisfyingly, and they’d meant much the same to me as my Military Cross.″ This is added to balance what I see as a subjective unsubstantiated comment in the previous sentence. Hi Deb,

You just deleted my page about Fragments of Him because there is no credible claim of significance. This game has been covered by some big websites like IGN, and I believe there are a lot of people trying to find information about the platforms this game is releasing on, and its release date.

What is the reason you think there is no claim of significance for this page?

Regards, Bas

Since you work for the company and are being paid to promote the product, and did not reference any independent sources in the article, I'm amazed you think you have anything to complain about. Deb (talk) 12:05, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I see the problem there. If I add independent sources to the article, would you allow it, or is it mainly because of the fact that I work at the company that owns the product? Would you be able to suggest a way we could reword the first line of the WP:LEAD to reduce the number of commas—they don't appear to be required for ambiguity reasons, and the sentence, with four commas, and parentheses, is bity and, quite hard, to read. —Sladen (talk) 17:57, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting an article while it's still being created.[edit]

Hi there. While I appreciate you're trying to keep Wikipedia articles in accordance to the "rules", surely, you must know that a very large number of articles are here that don't meet the rules. I was trying to fill a gap with a publisher that has a separate children's imprint, that was founded as an independent company. I had barely gotten the framework in, and was staring to put in some details when you went and deleted it. I don't want to get into an edit war with you, but how do you get a new article started if you keep deleting them before they're complete?? While you're at it, why not delete every link in Template:Lagardère ... which is one of the blanks I was trying to fill?? Hi-storian (talk) 23:42, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The new user who raised the above question (who has now christened me "The Wicked Witch of the West" on a third-party's talk page :-) ) claimed, on his user page, to be "a long-time Wikipedia user". I wrongly took this to mean that he had a certain level of experience and was familiar with the guidelines. I hadn't intended to delete the article until he reacted by swiftly reverting my redirect without addressing the issues in my edit summary (which read "redirect - no evidence of independent notability"). This looked and felt like a deliberately defiant act and I should have handled it differently - but it may serve as a good example to new users of how not to get what you want.Deb (talk) 12:47, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for refining the Short Summary re Series 2, episode 6 "The Apricot." I have reviewed the TV broadcast, in the light of which I have slightly amended the edit. But I now feel that the Short Summary is no longer short! Do you agree? I also have doubts about including the events of the last few minutes of the episode, which could prove to be a spoiler for the reader! Kaitlyn415 is a new editor participating in the Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon at Carnegie Mellon University at this time. I am helping her with her editing of a new article and I would like you to please restore her draft so we can keep on working on it to meet guidelines. It would be so good not to discourage this new editor-she is doing her best at learning to write good articles. Good articles on Women Artists are greatly needed in the encyclopedia and you would be helping to make Wikipedia better by restoring her draft so that I can help her finish it It is so disheartening to work on an article and then have its draft deleted. Pet Squad article[edit]

Hi Deb, I started to speedy the first posting of the Pet Squad article before I did a little digging, then I found out it IS a notable Canada/Malay/UK series, just unknown in the US. I put some notes on how to do the article right, including some links to support it, on Bayland's page to help him out, if he posts it again (I saw where he re-did it while I was making notes & you deleted it again) could you possibly move it to draft space instead of deleting it? Reversed a block[edit]

Hello. I've reversed your block of Briottie, as it doesn't technically fall afoul of the username policy: note that it is written in the form of Nicknamecompanyname, which is the sort of name explicitly permitted by WP:ISU. I'm surprised that nobody has asked you to format the sources separating the title from publisher before, its one of the first things people will pick up on when you take an article for Good Article reviewing! Don't want to keep on at you and stall your efforts though. Can you at least try to do it? It's just I have stated in the rules that I expect the sources to be properly formatted. If you really think you're not going to change your style then I guess I'll have to accept it purely because overall content is more important than trivial things like formatting!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:32, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Stub Obliteration[edit]

For this week I'm introducing a sort of game to blast away those stale old stubs with a prize at the end of it. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Wales/Awaken the Dragon/Stub Obliteration 2016. Expansion rules don't apply to any articles done through this, all you have to do is ensure every article you submit is minimum 1.5kb readable prose in total and adequately sourced and readable and remove the stub tag and update the project tag on the talk page. It could be that the article is 1.2kb readable prose and you simply add 0.3 kb prose and just quickly smarten up the sources and give a minor copyedit. The goal is reducing the number of stubs we have and making them more consistent, minimum start class entries. Read the top for the rules and more details and add your name to it in the style of the main entries page if you want to participate. It's open to contestants and anybody who is participating in the editathon independently. Potentially a lot of points can be earned from mass basic expansions with this!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:16, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to understand Wikipedia policy on articles about companies[edit]

Hi Deb,

Once I had created an article about a small company; one of those many articles that you are dutifully deleting :-). I am not arguing and not asking to restore it. I am just trying to understand Wikipedia principles on this. I have read the guidelines, and at first thought I got it (about promotion, self-promotion, notability etc.) But the more I think about it, the more I am confused about where the line is drawn.

When I personally encounter a new company on the Internet, I routinely turn to Wikipedia to get an overview. It is often better than trying to glean the info out of the company's own website. Right now, doing a research on my project I came across Macrofocus page, and this article reminded me the page I created that has been deleted. It is even marked as having notability problem too. So, why? As a user, I want to be able to find such info on Wiki. It is helpful.

I would appreciate if you could answer me.

Thanks, Alex -- talk 20:48, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Two months later:[edit]

Just today I found that you responded to my question the same day. Thanks, I appreciate it. It is too late to discuss any specifics, so I won't. (I have also just realized I have never got any notifications from Wikipedia. Oh my, my email notifications have not been turned on. Oops.)

Anyway, it was a pleasant surprize to find your response. Thanks again.

Undelete request[edit]

Hi Deb, do you mind if I undelete Lions Club Park Wyandotte MI and redirect the contents to Wyandotte, Michigan? Per this discussion, the article was created as a middle school project. It is certainly not notable on its own, but for the sake of preserving the research it might usefully become a couple of sentences in the overall article on the town. -- Euryalus (talk) 20:21, 16 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2016 CWHL Draft[edit]

Can you reinstate this? I hadn't finished! This was the start of the article on this year's CWHL draft; there are already articles on

and I had just updated Emerance Maschmeyer to include a reference to her entering for the draft in 2016, so now seemed like a good time to start the page for this year. Since the previous years' drafts have pages, this is clearly notable, and it wasn't going to stay that short for long (I was about to paste in the See Also section from 2015 CWHL Draft when I discovered it had been deleted).

Apologies for any formatting or terminology errors in this note, I haven't used Talk pages for this purpose before so I may be getting it wrong. Wwhyte (talk) 11:11, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

NuHome[edit]

You are horribly mean to a first time author. Who is your supervisor? No one should be treated as such.

I just want to show that this company exits as they just did work on my neighbor's home! I don't even work for the company. The only information I can find is on their website, thus, I wanted to add it to Wikipedia. Would you rather I just make up it? Should I just put that it was established in whatever year in Virginia? Should I apologize for adding what information is readily available? I think not. You are completely unhelpful and terribly rude.

I'm unsure as to why you are so unnecessarily hostile, but actual guidance would be appriciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mariahkoster (talkcontribs) 14:56, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

While I'm not Deb, I can add a few comments to this. Wikipedia has a specific set of guidelines that any subject, be it a person, a company, a song, etc. needs to meet to be included. This is the general notability guidelines. These guidelines lay out exactly what a subject needs to meet. For a company, such as NuHome, there's a more specific set of criteria here: WP:CORP. This page gives a better idea of what a company needs to meet to have an article. Mind you just EXISTING is not enough for an article. Wikipedia's not a site of discriminate information. RickinBaltimore (talk) 15:00, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Deb, your response to Mariah's rant was perhaps a bit bitey. Admittedly, her rant here was definitely out of line, but I think a softer hand with new users might be a better approach than your admittedly snarky response. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:37, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted page- MICS- media in conflict[edit]

Hi, you just deleted the page "MICS - The Media In conflict Seminar" I do not believe any of the content on the page was promotional. Also I believe it met the notability criteria. Those related to the organization in any way[edit]

"Avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products."

I'm not sure where this is from, or whether it is truly a universal principle. As long as articles are not promotional, those involved in an organization may be in the best position to describe its work for the encyclopedia, in non-promotional terms. Are you saying that no one belonging to the Catholic church may write articles related to the church? You'd need to eliminate most of the articles on the church in Wikipedia. I hope that we can accept that people within a large organization like the Jesuits (c. 16,000 members) can do a service to Wikipedia by writing objective, non-promotional, factual articles about the organizations's work. I'll look over the article on Regis and see where it's not simply factual, the sort of thing any outsider (like myself) can write by studying the Regis website. It does seem to me that the breadth and extent of Regis' service programs for students are beyond what most universities offer, and evidence an interest distinct from the university's purely academic and professional goals. Also, to include this article on the university's own wikipage would make that page unnecessarily long and cumbersome. Please clarify for me what the minimum requirements are here for submitting such pages to Wikipedia.Jzsj (talk) 12:04, 4 May 2016 (UTC)

I've already read this same paragraph on your talk page, and it doesn't help. You say "it seems to me that ...", acknowledging that this is your personal opinion. If you want to state it in an article as though it were a fact, then you need to produce evidence that it is true, and this evidence cannot come from the university's own website, which is designed to advertise the university to potential students. Assuming you are the person who created the page logging in anonymously, you're blocked for creating promotional content. If you think I'm going to restore it, you clearly haven't understood the reason for its deletion or your blocking. Deb (talk) 13:27, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It was unintended for my article to be promotional, it was just a school project because I am a high school student. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on 1990 in Namibia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. (talk page watcher) Who is that, your father? It sounds, in any case, like you are too close to the subject and possibly have a conflict of interest in creating this article. The best thing for you to do is present a fat list of independent, third-party reliable sources that testify towards the subject's notabilty... and let someone else write the article in an objective and encyclopaedic fashion. Here are a bunch of independent references including peer reviewed journal articles published by Dr Combs and others in which they reference Dr. Combs own peer reviewed work. Deleted Page[edit]

Hello, You have just deleted the page ergoCentric Seating Systems. It was deleted, as far as I can tell because it was flagged as "advertising". However, looking at similar companies, my page was no where near as promotional, rather just facts about the history and patents awarded to the company - all of which have external links. If possible could you please explain how a company - that meet the Wikipedia requirements- keeps a page posted. Or highlight specifically what is wrong with the current post. ad 1) No-one is actually paying me for the edits, or any of this, but then lets make me identify myselft in the article, would that be ok? Just to state the fact this is untrue then.

ad 2) I have now added a couple of sources, how many would I need to prove the notabilty if this is also not enough?

Or you just in general will not allow me to publish this? Cause then I ll give up and voilá one article less.

Also: I think it is very interesting that you DO take the time to research a lot of things here, EXCEPT the one that is in question. Hello You removed a page I have created. And I don't even have an access to the draft of what I wrote.

1. It wasn't an advertisement. It was about a non-profit non-governmental educational organization and I had the right to put it on WIKI. 2. There are many articles about big companies such as Pepsi, facebook, Coca-Cola and so on. These pages are advertising the big companies. Why don't you delete them all? And you easily perform a deletion of a page about an educational institute.

I ask you kindly to recover the page.

The first leg is Bristol. Names are to be added at the bottom of the Bristol page and articles listed. Please also make sure that you add entries you improve/start to the main list on the main page. There will be £10 to win each day for the most points accumulated and then the winner of the county crowned after three days. The overall winner will be decided from the points accumulated from each county round. If you're not interested in winning anything and want to contribute anything you want from the West Country this is fine too though. Best of luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:08, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deb

I'm super impressed with how on it you are in terms of the Wikipedia edits. It took you 10 mins to see my page which is great. Just to let you know I don't have any COI with that company whatsover - I live in Bristol and am trying to get more bristol businesses listed on Wikipedia as our city has surged in growth over the last few years to start to rival London as a tech hub and I think it's important that all our entrepreneurs are recognised. I have similar plans to start up pages for local bristol businesses and as this one was founded in 1986 and employs 90 people I thought it would pass the noteworthy test. Please let me know if it's just impossible to put up company pages and I will regretfully have to shelve my project. Kind regards Rob

HDL (company)[edit]

Hi Deb, You deleted the HDL page that i put up only yesterday! Why? :( I followed the rules, well at least in my mid i did. I was going to start to list a range of Chinese companies on Wikipedia, to try and balance out the over representation of European and North American businesses. The HDL page was my first foray. I looked at the equivalent Wikipedia pages from different companies who are less well known, so i could judge what was acceptable.

My article was impartial, notable, and well researched. More than some of the western automation company pages I have seen! Added to that how is it fair that a western company can have a Wikipedia page, but a Chinese company cannot? This smacks of racism.

I then posted the below content on the HDL talk page- (I received no reply, and the HDL page was deleted shortly afterwards.)

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because.. The CSD G11 rules which you have charged against the HDL automation page state:

"This applies to pages that are exclusively promotional and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to conform with Wikipedia:NOTFORPROMOTION. If a subject is notable and the content could plausibly be replaced with text that complies with neutral point of view, this is preferable to deletion. Note: Any article that describes its subject from a neutral point of view does not qualify for this criterion. However, "promotion" does not necessarily mean commercial promotion: anything can be promoted, including a person, a non-commercial organization, a point of view, etc."

From this I will draw the points which prove the page is not applicable for deletion.

Notabiltiy[edit]

  • The company known as HDL developed their own networking protocol to create both the Buspro, and Buspro wireless systems. These systems are unique making them deserving of the notable title.
  • The company is the largest of its type in Asia, and has installed automation products in the 'The great hall of the people' in China, the Sydney Opera house, palaces in Dubai, and a range of international airports. This makes HDL notable in the field of automation.
  • The company was the first home grown Chinese automation manufacturer. This makes it notable.

Neutral point of view[edit]

A neutral point of view was maintained throughout the article. If you can find any text which is not written in a neutral point of view, I urge you to change it.

Promotion[edit]

The article does not promote, or push, any particular view point or idea. It simply states the facts. If I was to list a celebrity’s age and their past movie roles on Wikipedia, would I be guilty of promoting the celebrity?

Precedent[edit]

In addition to this a precedent has already been set for the inclusion of smaller, less notable, automation manufactures into Wikipedia. For your reference:

---And countless others.

What is interesting about this is that these companies did not develop their own technology, they have not had their products installed in any world renowned locations, and they were not the first to do anything. Half of the automation companies on Wikipedia are not even as large as HDL!

It is clear that you marked the page for speedy deletion due to some misplaced form cultural imperialism. Simply because you do not know of HDL, does not warrant the page for deletion.

Included in the page were links to some of the leading building management websites in China which clearly show that HDL is notable, as for the past 10 years they have consistently placed as one of the top automation manufactures in Asia. I realize that a lot of junk gets posted on Wikipedia, and it’s up to people like you to keep the site running and sort the wheat from the chaff.

All I ask is that companies in the same industry are treated equally. Just because one is located in one country and another in a different country does not mean that different rules can be applied.

I worked hard on this page, it may not be perfect, but I gave it my best shot. In the future I will be creating more pages on Chinese companies as I am passionate about showing that my country is not just full of rice paddies and tea farmers.

If you could give me some help it would be gratefully appreciated.

Yours sincerely, WanZai

HDL (Automation company) deleted :(-- Back from the dead? --[edit]

Dearest Deb,
After my entry was deleted, cold bloodily cut down in its youth if you will, I put some hard graft in and added what felt like thousands of references and citations.
Some are in English, some are in Chinese, but they are there. The tone is neutral, linguistically matching the content on other 'automation' Wikipedia pages. If anyone accuses it of being promotional there is a good chance I will hang myself.
I don’t want to boast put I am 99% sure I have created the world’s best Wikipedia entry. There is no need to thank me however, seeing my article among the countless others will be thanks enough.
Would it be possible if you could visit my Userpage, and pass your expert eyes over my Wikipedia entry? A thousand thankyous if you can.
