Grays Athletic F.C. squad

Hey. To edit the current squad template, you need to enter Template:Grays Athletic F.C. squad on the search. This isn't linked to the squad on the Grays Athletic page; it needs to be updated seperately. Hope this helps, Mattythewhite 16:14, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Noticed you are making articles for Grays players. This discussion outlines things you should consider when creating an article for a non-league player. Is he notable enough to merit an article? There is a reason why many of the names on the Grays template are in black not redslυмgυм [ ←→ ] 23:26, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Basically if a player has played a football league game, then they can have a page. Some of the ones you're creating do not meet this criterion so will likely be deleted. WikiGull 06:41, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Reply - Bodkin played twice as a sub for Gillingham so is fine. I'm a Torquay fan, so am facing this problem myself for the first time. WikiGull 13:47, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Knowles, Kedwell, O'Connor

Hey. They fail notability as they have never made an appearence in a professional league; they've only ever appeared in the Conference National, which isn't fully professional. For them to have an article they'd have had to have played in the Football League, for example. Hope that clears that up. Mattythewhite 15:05, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

More or less. Take a look here. Mattythewhite 15:10, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
You forgot to make the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Onome Sodje page, so someone else made it. They didn't see anything wrong with it, so speedy kept it. Mattythewhite 11:15, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

England National Game XI

Hi, I noticed you're adding that category to some players. I was wandering if you had a resource of some kind for players who have played for the team? Thanks. Mattythewhite 11:58, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Ben Watson

I've sorted it out a bit. But the Grays one fails notability. Mattythewhite 16:39, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Aah, I don't know about the futsal caps. Perhaps it should be discussed on WP:FOOTBALL? Mattythewhite 16:50, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Aaron O'Connor

Well researched with getting Aaron O'Connor's notability - but I thought I'd let you know one of the soccerbase links don't work. Mattythewhite 12:31, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

This is about Aaron O'Connor when I looked at the page history it said you created it but I have wrote that I created. I prusume that I made a mistake so I will change it but if thay is some reason why I think I created it could you let me know?mattypc 15:22, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

The page history says that the article Aaron O'Connor was created by you. But I have a page that lists all the pages I have created andit says I created it. I wrote it so I must have thought I created it. I would just like to know whats going on. mattypc 19:26, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Look a bit closer before reverting

Hi there, I noticed you have been watching Jonny Evans. A little bit of advice, in the future could you double-check before reverting. You re-added the unhelpful vandalism with one of your reverts. Given the profile of the case, it doesn't harm to double-check. Thanks for looking out for the article. Woody (talk) 14:50, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

After just a few minutes' browsing; one could continue for ages and find loads of examples. All of these loans are set to end in 2008, but it's understood that a dash in the club list represents a current spell; a closed number represents an ended spell. He no longer plays for H&W, but instead for Weston-super-Mare. Therefore, I have removed your H&W template (which didn't work on his page anyways) and have replaced the Weston template. Please see http://www.westonsupermareafc.co.uk/firstteam.asp as he is player #27.

Cesc Fabregas

Why do you keep putting him in the box to box midfielder catagory? he is in now way a box to box midfielder, he has very few defencive duties, and despite having a good engine, he hardly has the defencive responcibilties of Viera or Keane.

No I don't, sign your comments next time. Jimbo[online] 23:58, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey I noticed you re-created this article a few times today. It was deleted following an WP:AFD and hence it falls under the speedy deletion criteria G4 - recreation of previously deleted material. It doesn't appear that his notability has improved to merit an article under WP:FOOTBALL's criteria unless I'm missing something - can you clarify the situation please or I will delete the article again. Cheers! The Rambling Man (talk) 17:30, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Okay, you'll need to add that to the talk page to stop other people deleting the article. And you should explain who he played for and against whom so people can judge it against the criteria for themselves. All the best The Rambling Man (talk) 17:45, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Cool, I added a suitable heading and the WP:FOOTY template there so all we need is the evidence...! The Rambling Man (talk) 17:52, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
What I was really expecting was the notability criterion to be described and then how it's met, both on the talk page. That way it shouldn't be deleted under G4 again. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:01, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm sure it may be clear to you but please add some substantiation on the talk page to prevent people who aren't 100% familiar with WP:FOOTBALL's latest notability criteria. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:09, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

I've starting discussing this at WP:FOOTBALL - not sure FA Trophy counts. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:52, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

After reading this discussion, and chasing it through WT:FOOTBALL, AfD and two talk pages, I have deleted this article once again. A unanimous AfD is a hard act to follow - you need to provide very clear, reliable and verifiable evidence that the subject is unquestionably notable - the reference you provided is not a reliable source, and one is not sufficient against an AfD. If you think you can assemble multiple reliable secondary sources, as required by WP:N, then please start a deletion review thread and present them as a justification for recreating the article. Evidence from the WT:FOOTBALL discussion will also be helpful if it decides in favour of the article. Please do not simply recreate the article - if it is unilaterally recreated in the face of four WP:CSD#G4 deletions, it is likely to be protected from creation. Happymelon 21:20, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

If you read Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Reliable sources, you will find all the answers you require. In general, newspapers and print media, reputable news agencies such as the BBC or CNN, and some online sources, are considered reliable. A good general rule-of-thumb is that if the word "unofficial" appears on a webpage, it is not a reliable source, although of course this is not a hard and fast rule. You will be best off attempting to gather references from several printed sources as they are more commonly considered reliable. Please also try to remain civil - swearing is rarely necessary and never productive. Happymelon 22:07, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Both would be acceptable as evidence for factual details - that is, they both reliably confirm that Ashlea Barnes plays for Grays Athletic. However, the fact that these sources cover that information is not notable - they do that for every soccer player in the business. If you find a BBC article about his transfer/signing to Grays, that indicates that the BBC considers him interesting enough to write about, and hence is evidence for notability. Essentially you're looking for reliable sources which have made a conscious decision that he is notable enough for them to write about: if he's good enough for them, he's good enough for us. Happymelon 22:50, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Sky Sports Prizefighter

Hope you enjoyed the tournament as much as I did, I see you were pretty quick to make edits! It's important to bulk up the pages of lesser known boxers, as well as creating pages. It's a good idea to have pages up to date so that users can get a correct impression of the fighter before a fight. I hope you'll keep up the good work! Bernard Dunne is fighting former world champion Felix Machado in Mayo, Ireland tonight. It's on Irish TV here tonight but I'm not sure if you have access to that. But I'm sure Gomez vs Cotto should be fairly entertaining anyway. I'm hoping for Dunne to win well tonight. It's been disappointing for Irish pros with Dunne and Andy Lee losing their last fights, and John Duddy only scraping through his last fight against Smichet.--19daedalus88 (talk) 16:39, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

YCFC players

Hello! Hope you're alright. Just wondering if you could explain why those players should be deleted? I don't really understand why they're such a problem given that half the York squad members already qualify on the basis that they once played a few games in a division that's only one higher and which is run to similar professional/national standards. Seems a bit odd to me! Also, shouldn't the notability criteria be reconciled before we jump around deleting? It just seems a real shame to start obliterating functional articles that don't do any harm and are as notable as others than are allowed to stay! Cheers... Me677 (talk) 14:34, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Ta for that. As you say, Brodie (plus previously deleted Woolford/Purkiss/Sodje) are fairly notable players - well, far more so than those listed for deletion. It's just the petty bureaucracy and the absence of logic/reason on here that does my head in - are those who set the stringent criteria the same people who secretly desire to be referees? contract expiry

As I understand it, if Barry Cogan, for example, finds a team to take him on for next season, he will join them from 1st July. Until 30th June, players remain contracted to the clubs they are at, and so it is proper to still connect him to the club who are paying him and responsible for him in the eyes of the Football Association. Clubs use the word "released", but AFAIAA, it has no meaning in terms of contract or registration. Kevin McE (talk) 19:06, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Cruzeiro Esporte Clube roster

Hi. You deleted two articles created by me about two Cruzeiro EC players, Rafael Pires Monteiro and Fernando Camilo Farias. You said both players have never played in a fully-professional league. I believe both exclusions were incorrect.

About Rafael: If you follow soccer, you know every professional squad needs at least three goalkeepers in their roster. Not rarely, the third-choice keeper is a youngster. Rafael was promoted in early 2008 and never played for the professional team, but was registered to play in Copa Libertadores (America's equivalent to the UEFA Champion's League) and was already in the bench for some games. He clearly is a part of Cruzeiro's roster - as can be seen in the team's official home page - and I don't see why he can't have an article.

About Camilo: I don't even need to elaborate on this, the deletion was just plain wrong. It was clear in the stub that he played for Marília in the 2008 Campeonato Paulista de Futebol, which is a professional soccer league - actually, the most important state league in Brazil. He never played for Cruzeiro because he was signed this week.

Considering this, I'd like to see the content I added yesterday put back. I also would like to see better criteria being used when to choose what's gonna be deleted or not. If you don't know about the subject you're reading about, ask somebody who does.

Regards,

Moisescoelho (talk) 13:24, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Ok. Whatever. This kind of intransigent behavior and use of dumb criteria over common sense brings absolutely no benefits to the whole project, but I won't redo the articles. Camilo was one of the best players in the 2008 Campeonato Paulista, and Rafael was (Cruzeiro was knocked down) one of the 25 players registered to play for the team in the most important South American soccer competition, but they aren't professionals. You're probably correct.

I once read a joke about Wikipedia that goes like, "Example of a Wiki article: 'Water is liquid (citation needed')". Good one, huh?

Cheers,

Samuel Peter vs. Vitali Klitschko is set! (sort of)

According to this and this, a deal has been reached and Peter will defend the WBC title agaist Vitali Klitschko before October 11th. However, the site for the fight hasn't been finalized. Hopefully, Big Brother Klitschko does'nt pull out due to injuries.--Jedi Kasra (talk) 20:44, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

  • O.K., will the fight be broadcasted in the U.S.? If so, what channel? I personaly hope that Peter wins over Vitali, so he'll be able to fight Vladimir. Not saying that Vlad still couldn't become undisputed champion of the world. If Vitali should win, Vlad could still beat Chagaev for the WBA title and be "undisputed". It's just that Sam Peter is the number two guy in the division. And in my opinion, Chagaev is a bum who is not worthy of having the same title as Holyfield, Foreman, Tyson, Ali, and all the greats, and he's a coward. Now I'm sure he's a good man, but I don't like him as a fighter. On the same site that had the Peter-Klitschko news, it has a report that as soon as Pavlik beats Lockett, Calzaghe's manager will begin negotiations for a potential matchup.--Jedi Kasra (talk) 22:02, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Oh, I'm a fan of Peter's. I mean, he did knock down Vlad three times! And Chagaev beating Valuev proves nothing, because Valuev fought nobodies, as well. I agreewith you about Pavlik and Jones, plus he need to fight Antonio Tarver. Gotta go, we'll talk boxing later.--Jedi Kasra (talk) 22:26, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Gary Breen

Hi. Noticed you'd changed the format of the years in Gary Breen's infobox, from separated by <br /> to separated by <br>, without the breaking space. Please in future would you leave the <br />'s in place, as specified in the documentation for Template:Infobox Football biography. The reason being, if there is a long list of years without any breaking spaces, they go out past the right edge of the edit box and make it difficult for later editors to work on what's there. Thanks, Struway2 (talk) 21:17, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Cesc Fabregas, Michael Ballack and Daniele De Rossi

Theres really no arguement about Cesc, his defencive work is non-existant and he plays a good 50% further up the pitch than Pirlo or Carrick (archetypal deep-lying play makers). Michael Ballack was never a box to box midfielder, and putting him in that catagory is misleading. In his early years he was a very good attacking midfielder (like Lampard but better in the air and can actually pass), but he was never ever box to box. Daniele De Rossi is a much more all round player than people give him credit for, just simply putting him in a box with Gattuso, the start of his profile on wikipedia says as much (strong tackle, eye for goal), if he's worthy of a mention it really must be in BOx-to-box and not defencive midfielder... Thanks for your time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ravhin (talkcontribs) 14:38, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

This is spot on more or less in my opinion. There will always be arguments/debates, but not all midfielders can be called the same even though they are both described as a CM officially. Whilst some CM's are obviously better at defensive duties or better at attacking, because they don't ALWAYS do either of them, there is no other real adequate description for them. Like has been said above, De Rossi is a far more "complete" midfielder than Gattuso say, so is better described as a box-to-box midfielder than him, and also a few others who are seemingly similar at times too. There just is no other real position descriptions to separate some midfielders. De Rossi can help with attacking far more, and Box-to Box midfielders are good at both. Most CM's are good at one or the other or not so bad at both. Most certainly though Gattuso is a DM anyway, even when Ancelotti (spelling)or Donadoni play him on the right. He only really has defensive qualities, and whilst most players can produce a bit of magic from time to time, or score a beauty, or even get a decent tackle/block in, only certain players can do certain things constantly, or on a regular basis, and for that/them reason/s there is no way De Rossi and Gattuso can be put in the same box. The only part i would disagree with slightly is with the Ballack part, who has become more of a box to box player now in my opinion, at-least for Chelsea anyway. He's not the worst at tackling and also seems to like getting stuck in at times, so he could be described as such now. I agree he used to be more attacking, and in my opinion he is for Germany most games, but for Chelsea he has had to be really. Especially when he plays in the middle with Lampard, because Lampard doesn't really like tackling etc, so much. Most top players are also top notch with their positional play, and 9 times out of 10 you only need to be in the right position, especially to help stop attacks. That also helps with the confusion in my opinion, because there is far too much emphasis on winning sometimes, than actually entertaining, and so players seem more defensive than they actually are sometimes. It's all hard work, hard work. Instead of have fun, enjoy it. Anyway that's just my opinion on midfielders. Bob90.203.114.86 (talk) 07:29, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Notability standards for boxing

Hi. Your name appears most recently at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Boxing so I thought I'd ask you... How do John Hoffman (boxer), Rick Folstad, Brad Patraw, Scott LeDoux, Antonio Johnson (boxer), Bobby Rodriguez and Corey Rodriguez measure up as far as boxing notability? Good candidates for WP:AFD? Their author appears to be quietly creating a bit of a walled garden of boxers from Minnesota. There are a few more from digging deeper into his contribs but I won't keep listing them - you get the idea! A few of his articles have already been deleted. Hi, where did you take the photos of top gear police cars? I'm transferring them to commons, and I'd like to get them geocoded. Thanks. -mattbuck (Talk) 23:38, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

No problem with them, just I want to add location data so I needed to know where they were taken. Thanks for your help, they've now been transwikied and put in Commons:Category:Top Gear. -mattbuck (Talk) 12:59, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Michael Palacio

hello why do you think michael palacio should be deleted and how does he get put back on?Mlsnews10 (talk) 03:59, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Why don't you think there is enough media coverage for Richard Sukuta-Pasu to meet WP:BIO? I know I offer differ on what is notable ... but I'm really surprised that anyone is arguing against this one - I've never seen so much media coverage for a U-19 player. I've removed your prod for Junior Stanislas. He did make an appearance at the 2008 MLS All-star game here in Toronto - [1]. While a bit gray, it does indicate (unlike Grasser) that he's part of the first team. Nfitz (talk) 18:59, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Regarding your comment in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Junior Stanislas. You've made a similiar comment twice earlier today in other AfDs, and I have demonstrated in both that it isn't crystal balling. Yet you haven't refuted that, and continue to make the same point elsewhre. Can you review the comment in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Omar 'OJ' Koroma and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tomasz Kupisz and edit your comment in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Junior Stanislas accordingly? Nfitz (talk) 23:09, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Doncaster prods

I removed your Doncaster prods. As the season starts tomorrow, can I suggest waiting a week or two, and then if they are not being named, I'll happily support an AfD. Nfitz (talk) 19:41, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Why did you state in the AfD that the deprodding "reason being as the football season starts in a few weeks and so the player might play". That is nothing like the reason I stated. I said "Season starts in less than 24-hours. Recommend wait a week or two before deleting to see if he is playing". Why have you chosen to misrepresent my words so radically? Nfitz (talk) 20:38, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
I'd appreciate a response. Nfitz (talk) 16:39, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
I'm still looking for a response here. Nfitz (talk) 21:44, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Danny Potter

On the Robbie Lawton deletion page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Log/2008_August_5#Robbie_Lawton - you said that Potter fails notability and that I should start an Afd. Now you're telling me to stop because he has played for Exeter. I was only doing what you told me to do in the first place. 92.12.247.63 (talk) 13:35, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Ok. Thanks for telling me. 92.12.247.63 (talk) 13:41, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Jimbo. The Michael Gash article was prodded (by me and seconded by Number 57) in July but the prod was contested. It will need to go to AfD now. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 11:59, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Matthew Bailey

Hi, I was wondering if the Matthew Bailey you put up for AfD was the one who played for Crewe, because he did play in the Football League. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 20:40, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Ah, thanks. And... oh dear... not many good things to say I'm afraid. I remember he scored a few crackers (which were really only the outcome of his usual 30-yard hit and hope efforts) and did one of those Maradona-type turn things, but most of the time was a load of crap. Or has he come good for Grays...? Mattythewhite (talk) 21:12, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
He does show some signs of a good footballer and on his day can be a class act. But, that happens for about five minutes a match. Quite disappointed really to see another Conf Nat club sign him... thought he'd proven he was incapable of performing at this level. But anyway, good luck for the season. Your username

Hi, as you may be aware Wikipedia's founder is called Jimmy Wales and is commonly known as Jimbo (i.e. User:Jimbo Wales). Given that Jimbo has a certain authority on the project, other people using that name can cause confusion. Whilst it might be a bit much for him to have an absolute monopoly over the name, your username does rather sound like it could be an alternative account of Jimbo Wales. I don't think this a clear violation of our username policy by any means, but I would encourage you to request that your account be renamed to something more obviously distinguishable. Renames are pretty simple and you would keep all your existing contributions in your edit history. If you are willing to request a new name, please make a request at Wikipedia:Changing username. WjBscribe 22:31, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

You may wish to add a disclosure on your user or talk page, just that you are not that Jimbo. Bearian (talk) 17:18, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Never mind, then. :-) Bearian (talk) 18:35, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
  • I do not agree with Abu-Fool regarding this username being 'alright'; rather, I tend to agree with WJBscribe that "Jimbo online" is prone to misinterpretation as being Jimbo Wales. Further, I am not happy about how close "Jimbo online" comes to "Willie on wheels" which was permuted every which way from Sunday and could easily have permuted through "Willie online" (not sure if it did); for information, WoW was a major vandal long ago. Considering User:Jimbo online did not comment on the prior thread, I would like for him to comment here so that his opinion can be known. Personally, I would encourage Jimbo online to change his username to something that in no way potentially implicates Jimmy Wales. Thanks. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 03:51, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
If you change a few letters, Jimbo Online becomes George W Bush. Maybe he should stop impersonating the president? -mattbuck (Talk) 11:49, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
    • User page clearly shows that I'm not that other fella who goes by a similar name. I've never had anyone confuse me for him. --Jimbo[online] 07:24, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
      • Yes, I understand that. However, 99% of people who see the "Jimbo" signature will not be visiting your userpage to check. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 11:06, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
        • Based on what evidence? --Jimbo[online] 12:29, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

I came from a WP:UAA about this username. It is apperent by J.O's edit patterns as well as the style of his userpage that he's not trying to make himself look like J.W. But i feel it would help if he stated on his user page that he is not affiliated with User:Jimbo Wales somewhere on his userpage. As long as they're not trying to impersonate, I don't agree with blocking any name that goes by the name of "Jimbo", just because the founder shares that name. What if it were your name? --wL<speak·check> 11:42, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes, but most people who see an edit signed as Jimbo online will not appreciate the need to check on the userpage. In my opinion this name is too like that of an existing editor - specifically, Jimbo Wales - to be acceptable in wikipedia. I would like to see admin consensus on this. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 11:47, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
So take it to the administrators' noticeboard. But remember while doing that to involve Jimbo online in the discussion process - after all it appears to be an innocent and genuine username creation. Don't do what just happened at Usernames for administrator attention, which was an attempt to get the user blocked without discussion. -- roleplayer 11:51, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

I have no particular problem with the name Jimbo online, however, when the editor chooses to write it as Jimbo[online] then I believe that is a deliberate attempt to deceive readers that Jimbo (Wales) is now online. There's nothing "innocent" about that format. WWGB (talk) 11:58, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

To expect every new user to know that Jimbo Wales is the creator of Wikipedia and that the name Jimbo should be avoided in a username is ridiculous. It could conceivably have been a genuine error. WP:Assume good faith. Take it to WP:ANI. -- roleplayer 12:00, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
WP:ANI states "To report improper usernames, see Usernames for administrator attention". I did. You know the rest. Rather a circular procedure, n'est-ce pas? WWGB (talk) 12:08, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
The header at WP:UAA says: For ordinary violations of the username policy, do not use this page. Instead, warn the user and ask them to change their name, possibly using the {{uw-username}} template. Is he back? (talk) 20:34, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
I think it is very apparent that Jimbo online is acting in good faith. That is not being challenged. What is being challenged is the suitability of this honestly selected username. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 12:04, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
I have taken it to WP:RFCN. Granted that every new user may not know about Jimbo, there seems no need for this user to be so resistant to the concept of the similarity between the names. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 12:05, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
I can understand Jimbo online's resistance in light of, perhaps, "hey, I didn't think that Wikipedia was so strict about things like this" as a thought. We've seen plenty of people who are surprised or offput by the rules and norms of behavior that exist here ... which does not make those bad, just something to get used to ... before striving to change them. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 12:09, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi there Jimbo online, just writing in to say that I think your username is perfectly fine and I hope you are allowed to continue using it, despite the fact that you coincidentally have the same name as Wikipedia's founder. I hope you will be able to continue contributing to Wikipedia instead of spending time defending your choice of username. Is he back? (talk) 20:34, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Sigere

Noticed you changed Jean-Michel Sigere's Football Conference title to Conference National. Thing is, in 2001 it was the Football Conference; there only was one Conference division until the league restructure in 2004. If you don't have any strong objection, I'm going to change it back, on the grounds that's what that division was called at the time. The Football Conference article contains one list of league winners, from Alliance Prem days to the current Conf Nat, so it won't be linking to something inappropriate. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:23, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Think the problem lies in them keeping the name Football Conference for the whole structure, when before 2004 it just meant that one division. If they'd called it National League Prem or something equally different, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Just think it's misleading to give Rushden and hence Sigere the championship of Conf Nat when that name that wasn't invented till 2004, that's all. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:52, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
[[Conference National|Football Conference]] would work, bit messy but it would make sense to link to whatever that division's called now, but still show what it was actually called when Rushden won it. The articles have quite a bit of content in common anyway. Though in real life it's either the Conference or the Blue Square Prem, generally depending on the age of the person doing the talking... thanks, Struway2 (talk) 13:26, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

(outdent) According to this link at the FA, when the restructure was ongoing, the top division was still being called the Football Conference, and in the lower table it adds (National) in brackets, probably just to distinguish from the regional divisions. That's not definitive, obviously, because it predated the new structure coming in, presumably the Football Conference must have a constitution which sets out what they say its permanent name is. If the editor of Football Conference 2004-05 had added a reliable source when they wrote "The 2004-05 season saw the Football Conference expanded to three divisions with the addition of the Conference North and Conference South added to the existing (and renamed) Conference National.", it'd help :-) Ref #1 on Football Conference, from the Football Conference website, (link now dead, but archived here), says "The Conference will be known as Blue Square Premier from next season, while the Conference North and South will be known as the Blue Square Northern and Blue Square Southern." TBH, the only thing I've heard the top-flight non-league division called in common usage, other than a sponsored name, is "the Conference". cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:31, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Nickname lists

Congratulations. It seems that you will bizzarely succeed in deleting one, if not all, of the sportsperson nickname lists. Have a barnstar for ensuring that wikipedia has no standard or expectation of quality, ever. I will be taking the football hooligan list off my watchlist, as it is clearly 'maintainable' and not in need of any attention in your opinion, and frankly, correcting it would stick in my throat given your views about maintaining comparatively stable articles that have less than one hundredth of the edit attention. Regarding your selective Afd nominations, you are frankly a coward, as you are fully aware that sourceing is not the issue, and your dodgy arguments about nickname lists apply universally. I therefore hold you in contempt, and I hope other editors who find these archived debates do too. So once again, congratulations. MickMacNee (talk) 18:11, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey Jimbo, please refrain from further "discussion" with Mick. It's not constructive. His personal attacks are unacceptable but you would serve this place well by moving on. I hope you understand. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:50, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Deleted Content

Hi I posted some content that is informative about goalkeeper gloves. The information is unbiased and widely accepted inside the goalkeeper world. I wanted to know why you deleted it? Thank you. Keeperstop (talk) 18:16, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey there J.O., I just declined the speedy tag that you applied to the above article. There is a (relatively stupid) rule that says if something is recreated after a PROD deletion, it cannot be redeleted as a G4. I want to "ignore all rules" and delete it anyway, but I don't know the subject matter well enough to know if this person is in fact notable or not. I encourage you to bring it to AFD to settle the matter; then if it reappears after a deletion discussion, I'll delete it over and over again if need be if recreated. Cheers, Keeper ǀ 76 17:48, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

I see that it's been deleted thru AFD. Sorry about the process wonkery there, I had a feeling an AFD would go that way, but without it, DRV....ANI....you get the picture. Appreciate your work - happy editing! Keeper ǀ 76 20:15, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Wes Brown a top fullback?

He's not even first-choice for his club OR country is he? Are you just trying to prove a point? Beve (talk) 20:07, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

But only because others are injured though, right? Or has he overtaken Gary Neville now? Beve (talk) 20:12, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Hmm. Personally I wouldn't rank him amongst the world's elite. Any idea why Ashley Cole keeps getting removed? He definitely IS first choice for club and country. Beve (talk) 20:24, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
I don't know anything much about them. I guess there aren't any defined criteria for inclusion, but in my mind they would have to be first choice at a 'big' club and first choice for their country as well. Hence why I'm against Carragher, Clichy etc being added. Silverware wouldn't necessarily put a player in the elite, since squad players get medals too. I don't plan to waste too much time arguing about it though, since it's a very subjective thing - unless there's an official 'world player of the year' type of list that we could use; that would avoid all debate, but I don't think they break it down by position? Beve (talk) 20:37, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Francis Laurent

Hey, funny you should ask, I actually lookd him up earlier. His stats are:

Southend United 2008-2009 - -
1. FSV Mainz 05 2007-2008 6 0
1. FSV Mainz 05 II 2007-2008 11 3
1. FSV Mainz 05 Amateure 2006-2007 14 4
Sochaux-Montbéliard FC (B) 2005-2006 (CFA) 12 0

So he has indeed played six games at 2. Fußball-Bundesliga level. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 13:55, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Stop this now

Please (re) familiarise yourself with CSD G4 – I am perfectly well aware that this is about the same topic; however, it is not "substantially identical to the deleted version". The "any changes in the recreated page do not address the reasons for which the material was deleted" proviso does not apply here, as it was initially deleted via WP:FOOTYN, which is not a guideline, let alone policy. Send it to AfD if you want it deleted. – iridescent 20:56, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Did he really only make 3 league appearances for Grays.........? -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 18:02, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for those links, that's a fantastic site you've got there, shame there aren't more like it for non-league clubs. In the absence of confirmed league apps and goals for the 02/03 season, though, I think I'd best leave his GAFC stats as "unknown" for at least the time being. And yes, I am indeed having a punt for GA with the article. Andysteve may be a bit of a pest, but at least with his last few edits he's potentially helping articles pass GA criterion 6 :-) -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 07:11, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Yup, I see no reason why a programme couldn't be used as a source, it would be no different to citing the official club website, which nobody would quibble about. That Soccerfacts site only seems to have data as far back as 2001, so is missing his first two seasons at Canvey. I think we're destined not to find those numbers....... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 08:47, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Jamie Stuart

Nice work on Jamie Stuart. Just wondering if you knew for sure if he played for England C, because the Non-League Club Directory 2008 or the FA website make no mention of him having played for them. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 21:16, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Cool, I think that reference could be incorporated into the article. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:28, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Keeperstop

It is not original research, there is just not much published about it. Do you have any suggestions on detailing techniques and tactics for goalkeepers so it does not appear to be original research by one person? Thanks Keeperstop (talk) 14:48, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Jean-Michel Sigere

Martinique is indeed in the Caribbean, but that makes Mr Sigere of Caribbean birth, not necessarily of Caribbean descent. Although it's most likely that he was born there because that's where his mum and dad and earlier generations were from, there's nothing in the article to confirm it, and we can't make assumptions. I explained the same here to the editor who originally added the category when I removed it the first time. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:33, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

I see you've tagged Image:GAVfest.jpg as a copyvio; in my experience, copyvios don't usually come with Metadata. Do you know where it's taken from? Cheers. --Rodhullandemu 21:13, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Remarkably similar, but if the image has Metadata I usually assume that's directly from the camera; it may be that User:Daibh took the photo for Virgin and uploaded a copy here. I'll leave it for now and revert to a known OK image, just to be safe. --Rodhullandemu 21:32, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm assuming you mean my reverts to Michael Ballack. Do you think he looks like Matt Damon too, because if so, I could put that back. Also could you explain the <br /> thing a bit better. Usually there aren't more than 2 years listed before a break so I don't see why it matters. Hubschrauber729 (talk) 23:06, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Hubschrauber's comment is useless and not to the point. In addition he has violated the rules several times. Michael Ballack put a personal blog on Footbo and I have not heard about him blogging on any other web site. This is useful information for the community. I suggest to reinstate the link. 217.132.253.251 (talk) 23:08, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
