Two month virtual editathon on Women in Sports

Hi there! Just a reminder that WikiProject Women in Red is devoting the next two months (July and August) to a virtual editathon on Women in Sports. Hope you have time to contribute lots of new articles.--Ipigott (talk) 07:40, 26 June 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. There are plenty of Olympians I can focus on. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:32, 26 June 2019 (UTC)

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → check Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Willbb234 (talk) 09:02, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the copyedit

I know it's not really something but thanks for doing the copy editing in the tournament summary section in the 2019 Cricket World Cup as going through some of my messiness writing would be a pain to do. HawkAussie (talk) 11:33, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

No problem. I plan to cast my eye over the whole section at some point. And thanks for putting in the effort to write it up in the first place. Nice work! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:35, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for yeah, nothing else then having an World Cup which is basically just WP:NOTSTATS. By expanding with prose, the article is more complete in my eyes and actually does give a review of the tournament. I am actually thinking of doing the earlier Cricket World Cup articles as I have a Cricket World Cup encyclopedia book which goes from 1975 to 1999 which can be used to expand upon it. HawkAussie (talk) 11:47, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Further comment

If you happy for it, I could try and nominate the article for Good Article status once the World Cup is over and the hype has died down enough for it to be much more stable. Of course it probably needs work on the shorter sections like the broadcasting and match officials but that isn't something that a little research can't fix. HawkAussie (talk) 11:17, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. Agree on waiting until it's all done and dusted, then go for it. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:19, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

Updates to "Philippe Leroy"

Lugnuts --

I see that you removed my edits on this page identifying foreign language text. The reason I found this page was an unknown word identified by Typo Team moss-- the word "quoio". In fixing this one item, I may have gone a bit overboard. Still, I don't think the language tags I added hurt the page in any way. (It is true that they are film titles, but it's also true that they are words.)

I will, though, put back a tag on the word in the title "Teste di quoio". An automated script identified this and would continue to identify this as an error/issue. Jkgree (talk) 23:14, 10 July 2019 (UTC)

@Jkgree: that's fine - no worries. I thought it was an auto-script that had gone crazy at first! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:45, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

I am Julius Stern's grandson (Gsherman1!) and I made significant edits today. Please don't undo!

Hi. You need to provide reliable sources (ideally online) to verify everything you add to an article on WP. Also if you are related to the subject, then please see WP:COI. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 05:47, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

That’s all well and good but your freakin’ “facts” are wrong. He was born in Hintersteinau and died in New York. Instead of just unilaterally undoing hours of my work which corrects and completes the record and does not perpetuate online errors, teach me how to cite my work please!!! Be a sport - email me with something I can refer to so that you’ll be satisfied. Thanks!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gsherman1! (talkcontribs) 21:03, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

OK - Birthplace actually turns out to be Flieden, which made sense because that was where he was Bar Mitzvah'd as well. Regardless, I have now provided reliable, independent citations for all...Gsherman1! (talk) 11:55, 17 July 2019 (UTC)

Can you please cleanup the mess in 2019 Cricket World Cup knockout stage and 2019 Cricket World Cup Final articles? An user is constantly removing my edits. It's late night here and I cannot stay awake anymore. Human (talk) 18:49, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

I'll take a look. I'm still letting it sink in - THE greatest cricket match I've ever seen! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:51, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
That is the reason I was awake till 2 am here. This match was the greatest ever. Goodnight! Human (talk) 18:54, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
The best thing is to let it go mad for a few hours post-match, and then pick it up the next day, when it's died-down a bit. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:52, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
Yep matches like this are going to get a lot of attention; that's the main reason why I avoid them and then perhaps tidy up a little while after the event if needed. What a match! Can't help feeling we (England) were a little lucky in the end, but deserved it overall over the tournament and the last 4 years! Bs1jac (talk) 11:07, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

Women's cricket

Hi, a few comments on women's cricket coverage. I created a couple of tournament pages recently (2018 Botswana Cricket Association Women's T20I Series, 2019 Thailand Women's T20 Smash) and added them to the international cricket template. I see you have created one for the Netherlands quadrangular, and I have just done the lower tier France quad. I think it is better to label these in the template as women's series, similar to say 'Australia women in England'. Do you agree with that, or think these quad tournaments are better just left as 'Netherlands Quadrangular Series'? Secondly, I haven't created an pages for women's associate bilateral series as there are several of them and usually very low key (e.g. China-South Korea, Nigeria-Rwanda); technically they are just as notable as men's associate bilaterals, but I am restricting myself to tournaments only for women at the moment. If bilaterals like this were created in future, do you think it would clutter up the template too much? Bs1jac (talk) 11:14, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

Ps: mitratanmoy and myself have been doing a lot of work over the last few weeks creating women's player lists, updating some seriously out of date and poorly formatted lists for Full members (that's still ongoing; mitratanmoy most recently overhauled the entire New Zealand ODI list which must have taken ages!), adding basic result summaries to women's team pages similar to men's associates, applying categories, talk pages etc, creating those tournament pages and so on. Really pleased with the work that we have been doing here! Bs1jac (talk) 11:18, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
Great work as always with this. I agree that the quad series should have "women" in the title. Leave this with me, I'll go back and check the ones and move accordingly. I have no issue with the low-key women's bilateral tournaments being added to the template. If you can find coverage on these, then go for it. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:23, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
@Bs1jac: the two that I created (Netherlands and South Africa) quad series have been moved to the correct names. Odd that I created them without the word women in them! You might have seen that I've also added the Norway squad for the French women's quad series. Which their press release states "tour to France", so I though maybe they'd cycle to the games. :D Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:44, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
Awesome. Interesting that Norway announced an extra team. Cricinfo has scorecards in place and matches up with the ICC calendar. Not sure how they would fit extra games in (unless there are multiple grounds). Possibly Norway made a mistake, or Belgium were originally included but no longer, or have been added, or intend to field a non-eligible team for T20I status perhaps. Given the shocking coverage scorecard-wise of the Pacific Games, this one could be interesting too! Bs1jac (talk) 12:54, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

What exactly defines an rv? The reason I ask is for this Reference. I thought since they were the next matches in that particular format they can now be named. Even CI has numbers now in the scorecards. Ankurc.17 (talk) 05:08, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

Cricket debuts

Quick question, on a very minor point, but is there a protocol for the order of debutants within Notes in a cricket score summary template? I have always done them in alphabetical order, including listing players from the team that is first alphabetically first as well (e.g. say Denmark players debuts before Norway player debuts). The guides for the match templates doesn't specify. Another editor is doing them by (I think) team that batted first followed by team that fielded first which makes little sense to me as surely both teams start the game at the same time (you don't need to bat to have made a debut). Or it may be Host nation players first (which makes a little more sense). Just wondered what your thoughts are on this, as it's such an insignificant thing anyway - obviously it's not wrong whichever way round - but wondered if I had missed any instruction/guidance from somewhere? Cheers. Bs1jac (talk) 15:26, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

Sorry, figured it out based on previous series he has edited. Is also going by alphabetical order (excellent!), but what confused me was he is making an exception for the host nation of multiteam tournaments. I can see that logic for a bilateral and so I suppose it could carry over to tournaments... just to me felt peculiar to have alpha for most matches in the series except where one team in a given match is the host. As I said very minor... and I have worked out the pattern! Bs1jac (talk) 16:01, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi! I always (try) to list them A-Z by name, and "home" team first. If it's a neutral venue/multi-team series, then whichever team is first A-Z, then by players. 16:05, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

Right. It probably shouldn't. Should instead follow the Jerusalem Post, the top English language RS in the country. imho. --2604:2000:E010:1100:4D4:49F3:3403:D1F5 (talk) 09:06, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Not yet, as per WP:NOLY, they'll need to have competed at the Olympics to become notable. Unless, they've already meet some other notability requirement prior to the Olympics. Have a look at WP:NATH to see if they have. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:54, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Farida Kyakutewa

Good day Lugnuts, Thanks for creating the article on "Farida Kyakutewa". However ,all the statistics and other related information seem to point to individual Faridah Kyakutema . Perhaps it was a spelling error from the source? I believe the individual being referred to is "Kyakutema" and not "Kyakutewa"..how do we go about correcting this? Hi. I've got some news here and here. Human (talk) 15:42, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Oh yes I didn't notice you already created the page. Nevermind. Human (talk) 15:55, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Took me a while to digest this when I first saw it, thinking it was Bangladesh playing two matches, one each against each XI side! Thanks for the extra info, I've added that to the page. The page title is fluid, so if a better one, or an official one comes along, I'll sort out moving it if/when that happens. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:15, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
Yeah. The title looks kind of off, specially when you included BCB Sheikh Mujibur Rahman together. We call him by his titular name 'Bangabandhu'. You might that instead of his full name. It's kind of similar to 'Quaid-e-Azam' in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, which is the titular name of the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Human (talk) 17:26, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the help. I've removed the "BCB" bit, and see what happens from here. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:37, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Have a look here. I know Gulf countries are wealthy and creating a league isn't a problem there but this is ridiculous. It's even confirmed by ICC. It won't be long until this wretched T10 format becomes official. Human (talk) 09:20, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Could be worse - some clown could come up with a 100-ball format...! And yet the Global T20 Canada and Euro Slam tournaments aren't full T20 matches. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:32, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
But in Euro Slam a test nation is involved. I think it might have official T20 status. Didn't read anything about it being not official. Human (talk) 09:37, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Concerning dates

At the page about the latest test between Ireland and England - shouldn't we put the dates as played (i.e. as it is currently done at the County Championship page)? That would be the most accurate and consistent way to convey the information, and the fact that it was originally scheduled to last 4 days can very well be left to a footnote. 107.190.33.254 (talk) 14:32, 27 July 2019 (UTC)

For all international tours, for as far back as I know, they've listed the full five days (or four in this case) that were scheduled to be played. And then the date has a footnote to explain this. Take a look back at previous Test series that have been played to see this. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:35, 27 July 2019 (UTC)

The redirect that I did for Joe McLean (cyclist) was so that his name was spelt correctly. Because you undid the redirect he is now appearing with the wrong surname again, which is why I changed it in the first place. Yes, that's fine. Would appreciate the same return on the international fixtures page(s). Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:22, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

So i will remove the notification? Ankurc.17 (talk) 08:57, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
Yes, now the source has been added. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:58, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
Hi I want to contribute more without getting into any sort of arguments / fights. Could you recommend any such pages? Ankurc.17 (talk) 16:39, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
Perhaps the individual grounds articles themselves? I don't know what shape most of them are in to be honest. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:42, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
Cool. Will start with them from tomorrow onwards. Ankurc.17 (talk) 16:46, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
Took around 3 weeks but finally all the grounds have been updated. Ankurc.17 (talk) 15:27, 9 September 2019 (UTC)

Time

Hi. I am currently now in Canada and will be there for 8 months. This has messed up my scheduled and I will appear here in the weirdest of times. At least I won't disappear like this guy. I wonder what happened to him (And you obviously don't have a good history with him). I was also on a transit in China, where I discovered Wikipedia is banned by the government to not remind their people of the day when nothing happened. Human (talk) 03:30, 23 August 2019 (UTC)

Enjoy Canada! Lovely country - I've been there a couple of times myself. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:23, 23 August 2019 (UTC)

Swimming references

Dear Lugnuts, please don't remove the notes regarding British swimming champions, just put a citation needed tag. I lost access to the Times Digital Archives and now have regained access but unfortunately I have now got to retype or retrieve the text you have removed, meaning it will take me much longer than anticipated. RegardsRacingmanager (talk) 16:01, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi. You should source it as you add it, not tag it and leave if for later. If it's unsourced, I'll remove it. See also WP:BLPREMOVE. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:35, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

Flagicons AND swimming references

No problem did not realise it was a styling thing! P.S your earlier note Re- swimming references, the link you provided says contentious material. As this is not contentious (quote - causing or likely to cause an argument OR controversial). there is no need to remove it.Racingmanager (talk) 18:26, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

Thanks. However, if it's an unsourced "fact" on an article, esp. a living person, it will be removed. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:28, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

On File:Amaju_Pinnick.jpg removal from Amaju Pinnick page

Hello Lugnuts, Kindly walk with me here as I am at loss on why the image of the subject was removed, as the information on it seems to have passed the fair use rational, and the reduced size image used on the article. Kindly visit the File:Amaju_Pinnick.jpg page (if you haven't) and advice me next steps. Thanks very much! 2dmaxo (talk) 08:39, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

Take a look at all the warning tags on the image page. As it's been taken from another website, it's not free-use. Unless you took the picture yourself, it's pretty safe to say that you don't own the image and it must not be uploaded to WP and/or Commons. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:42, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello Fire Walk with Me, Thanks for the feedback. True there were loads of tags, and was of the assumption that my explaination on the historic image usage would suffice coupled with the BOT resized version. Thanks for the good work. 2dmaxo (talk) 13:10, 2 September 2019 (UTC)

Opinion please

Hi Lugnuts. Would you please look at the edit history and talk page for Sundance Film Festival and offer your opinion if you have one on the matter? You don't have to agree with me, and it's a trivial matter, but I need another voice or two there since an editor is arguing via reverts rather than the talk page. I just remembered your name because I have come across it with regard to other film articles. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:22, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

@Laterthanyouthink: - Thanks for dropping me a note - I've replied at the talkpage. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:43, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for that, I appreciate your opinion. (And I see that I didn't properly proof-read what I wrote above and had repeated myself, so have just edited slightly!) Laterthanyouthink (talk) 07:16, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

Film score

Hi Lugnuts. In this edit I noticed you removed a soundtrack list citing wp:FILMMUSIC. I had a look at the MOS entry but couldn't see a reason there for removing a soundtrack list from an article. Just for my own curiosity, in case I ever add a soundtrack list to an article, what was the reason for removing it? Thanks and best wishes --Northernhenge (talk) 20:06, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

@Northernhenge: It's in the last bit of the MOS that states - "Track listings for film scores are generally discouraged since the score is usually composed by one person and the score's tracks are generic descriptions of scenes from the film. Noteworthy tracks from the film score can be identified and discussed in prose." Bascially, a list of songs that are heard in the film should not be included in its article. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:05, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. I'd read that as discouraging track lists for specially composed music (like Star Wars or whatever), not lists of existing music adopted for the film. Having said that, I can see the point about "Noteworthy tracks from the film score can be identified and discussed in prose" so not just a ist of eveything - that makes sense. --Northernhenge (talk) 18:37, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

2019 Singapore Tri-Nation Series

Hi - Sorry but I just created 2019–20 Singapore Tri-Nation Series (whichI have added to the international cricket in 2019-20 template), and then saw that you have made 2019 Singapore Tri-Nation Series. I thought I check first and didn't see anything. Would you mind deleting or merging one of them for me please? Bs1jac (talk) 12:24, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

Question

Hi Lugnuts, wondering why you removed the infobox and picture changes from my edits on Sumit Kumar wiki page as they are factual as given in the source below and the picture is free use owned by me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wesleyworks05 (talkcontribs) 08:28, 16 September 2019 (UTC)

Like many pictures added to articles of Indian cricketers, it looked like it was taken from another website. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:32, 16 September 2019 (UTC)

Christine Erkelens

I’m not sure what is going on with the Christine Erkelens article but I’ve semi’d it for a year. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 17:40, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

@Malcolmxl5: - Thank you for your help. Yes, I have no idea what's going on here either. I had the (mis)fortune to run the text through Google translate before it was rev'd. Very odd. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:43, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

Ranji Trophy Player Transfers

Sorry for messing up A-Z, I didn't realise it was alphabetical, so arranged teamwise. And regarding the player transfers which didn't have a citation, will the official squad information the player's new team be sufficient, or will it need some kind of article specific to the transfers? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Krishnakrm (talkcontribs) 04:58, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi. Ideally a news article relating to the transfer. I assume that the squad page would be the same URL on the team's website, but would update as and when, and not be static like a news article would be. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 05:44, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

Mohamed Abdulla

I noted that when I first looked up Mohamed Abdulla's page on Twitter, his birthdate wan't available. Somehow, he appeared to have seen that his article was up for deletion, and added his birthdate, but only month and year. I'm not sure when it has happened since, but now his complete birthdate is on Twitter. Whether a more authoritative secondary source will turn up, is up to the writers of those secondary souces and the level to which the information is trusted. Just an interesting note regarding the recent AfD. Bobo. 10:33, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

Thanks. The Twitter page itself isn't a WP:RS, as it could be edited by anyone, and we don't know for 100% if it is the subject's page or not. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 21:40, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

Malaysia vs Vanuatu

Hi. Can you create the article for the T20I series between Malaysia and Vanuatu as shown in the ICC calendar on behalf of @Bs1jac:? He usually creates article about the associate series. But he is currently on a holiday and I'm sure you know about that. Or since it is involving the teams in the same venue as the 2019 Malaysia Cricket World Cup Challenge League A, maybe create a section just like the 2019 United States Tri-Nation Series? Human (talk) 15:30, 26 September 2019 (UTC)

Associate cricket never stops these days! Bs1jac (talk) 16:11, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
Hi. Yep, sure - def. needs a stand-alone page IMO. Do you have any more sources outside the ICC fixture's list? Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:35, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
Not yet but I hope it doesn't turn out like the Namibia-PNG one. Human (talk) 18:07, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
Haha, yes that was my thinking! I'll sort it out in the next day or so. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:08, 26 September 2019 (UTC)

@Lugnuts and Bs1jac: Malaysia cricket association has confirmed me that the series is happening. They also said they'll put up something like an update. I think this article should now be created. Human (talk) 05:29, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

User

There's this user created articles for the members of the Uganda Cricket Association. I have doubt if they are notable enough, like Uganda isn't a full member team and has only played a couple of T20Is. And also he is uploading an outdated version of the Uganda Cricket Association logo from a website which isn't even the official website of Uganda cricket. He also did some edits in the ICC wc playoff tournament which you previously reverted. Human (talk) 15:05, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Thanks. The three I've found (one, two, three) are at least sourced and claim some sort of notability. I don't know if they'd survive the WP:AFD process though. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 15:13, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
I think the articles should be nominated for deletion. The user also has multiple issues like adding unsourced infos and disambiguation warnings. Overall, he doesn't seem to be a good editor. Human (talk) 16:01, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
