Wikipedia and copyright

Control copyright icon Hello Maplestrip. All or some of your addition(s) to Webcomics in China has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 20:09, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

@Diannaa: This seems a bit excessive. I understand that I failed to paraphrase properly, but I'm surprised to see a wall of text appear on my talk page explaining how Wikipedia handles with copyright based on two lines. I basically feel threatened right now; I could have done with a short notice that I messed up >.> ~Mable (chat) 20:17, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
Sorry. I thought this message was the best one to use, since it gives a lot of details and links :( — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 20:19, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
@Diannaa: Ah, it's alright ^_^; It's just scary to suddenly see something like this pop up on your talk page, especially if you've been dealing with copyright topics for a long time. I now feel bad for complaining about it, though! Thanks for the apology, I really appreciate that. ~Mable (chat) 20:27, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Madoka

Oh, so you're the one who's helping out in Madoka page, eh? I'll have to give you my thanks too and also, I have uploaded Madoka and Homura's profile photos. By the way, do you have the necessity to create Kyubey's page.

PS: check this out

Zero stylinx (talk) 08:27, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

I'm glad you like it. Thanks for adding some images :) I did originally plan to write a Kyubey page, but I sadly got bored of the project. As for why I didn't just copy over the whole character description from the list of characters: I intended to not go into any original research, but that's hard when it comes to plot details. Oh well... ~Mable (chat) 09:18, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

Autopatrolled granted

Hi Maplestrip, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Inventing templates

Hello. "Live" articles are not the place to start experimenting with new templates as you did here - ymd is not a format that's ever really used in English, and that template was created in the past only to be deleted following discussion at Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2011_December_7#Template:Use_ymd_dates. If you want to experiment with templates, I suggest you use your sandbox rather than live articles. Le Deluge (talk) 07:42, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

@Le Deluge: Ah, sorry for doing that. This whole template situation has been confusing me for ages now, though I think my actions were a bit misguided. Thing is, I'm just not really sure where to ask about this topic. I wasn't able to find any past discussions on it either until you linked the TfD discussion here. Do you have any idea for where I could bring this up for discussion? ~Mable (chat) 13:41, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
Both Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Templates is probably your best bet - the time related projects like Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Years are quieter, I suspect there's lots of people watching Wikipedia talk:Date formattings even though it looks quiet. Depends a bit on what your angle is.Le Deluge (talk) 13:56, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
@Le Deluge: Ah, thank you very much. I will definitely make a post at one of the places once I collect my thoughts further. ~Mable (chat) 15:34, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Overwatch and pornography

The article Overwatch and pornography you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Overwatch and pornography for things which need to be addressed. DYK for Lupe Fiasco versus Daigo Umehara

On 11 October 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lupe Fiasco versus Daigo Umehara, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that professional Street Fighter player Daigo Umehara lost an exhibition match of Street Fighter V to rapper Lupe Fiasco? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lupe Fiasco versus Daigo Umehara. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Lupe Fiasco versus Daigo Umehara), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Homestuck Trolls

Thank you for finally replying. I'm actually reading through the point where they're introduced, and am planning to give them all at least cursory descriptions, but haven't gotten to them yet. Furthermore, when [troll names] are searched, most redirect not to the Characters page, but to the general page for Homestuck. If I take reasonable measures to update the whole list, will you allow me to keep my partial updates? (I actually think reverting piecemeal updates is a bad policy, which will discourage casual editors from improving things. But I probably don't have the clout to change it.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 45.56.1.106 (talk) 23:21, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

I wasn't the one who undid your changes at first ^_^; Also, when I said talk page, I meant Talk:List of Homestuck characters. Allow me to copy over this section to there so we can continue the discussion over there. Then, everyone who is interested in the page will be on the same line :) ~Mable (chat) 10:32, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
You weren't, but you still called my edit vandalism, and I didn't know why. As to the talk page, I sort of figured that's what you meant, but I didn't know how to find it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 45.56.1.106 (talk) 14:50, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
I haven't actually called anyone's edit 'vandalism', actually, as you can see in the article history. ~Mable (chat) 18:33, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

List of Crash Bandicoot games

Hello :) I am sorry for interrupting, but due to your suggestion I decided to rebuild the 'Cancelled games' section into prose. If you could, please take a look on it before it'll be published (I have it in my Sandbox). I don't speak English very well and my writting skills also leave a lot to be desired. Thus feel free to edit/change it in my Sandbox, it will be really helpful for me. If you wish you can also add it into the article after your checking :) Thanks a lot in advance. I tried to do my best. Greetings. Pinstripelli (talk) 00:11, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

These are quite a few cancelled games :3 I've made a couple of adjustments, as well as added a [when?] tag in at one point. For some of the listed games, I am curious if they are even worth listing. For instance, Crash Clash Racing seems to just be the working title of Crash Tag Team Racing. My biggest worry is that almost all of this content is sourced by Crash Mania rather than independent reliable sources. My biggest recommendation is to try and replace some of the sources, which I am sure would be possible. Other than that, I think this is definitely an improvement over the table myself! It feels like you're reading a proper development history of the brand. ~Mable (chat) 11:02, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your help. I am really grateful. Yes, it is not very clear which project should be considered as a 'cancelled game', but I think it can be described due to the section's prose form. I added some words to make "Clash Racing" topic more clear (it was in fact "prototype" for "Tag Team Racing", but the storyline and some other aspects have been changed) and tried to connect CNK by Traveller's with "Evolution" chronologically. I tried to find some more reliable sources, but in fact Crash Mania publish the most information regarding the Crash titles (and also other Crash-related articles are sourced in that way). After all, if someone (or me) will find something better, it may be changed. I think more reliable sources could be really helpful. Thank you once again for your help and my very last personal request - could you take a look on my last edit in Sandbox? I tried to improve the text, according to your suggestion. If you could check the linguistic correctness of it, I'll be much obliged. Then I will place it in the article, instead of the table. Best wishes :) Pinstripelli (talk) 15:40, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
Your last edit looked really good. I'd give a thumbs up on moving this to the actual article and replacing the table. You may want to ask for some more feedback on the article's talk page, though, if you haven't already ^_^; ~Mable (chat) 16:54, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

One thing: Brill. I like it. I was considering asking You whether the nationality column is important, but after pondering it for a while I think it might be useful. Also, maybe it would be worth it to do a little bit of research and add the runs of the comics, too, what do You think? --Ouro (blah blah) 23:35, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

Brill? Anyway, I tried to focus on the creator rather than their works. A lot of the listed webcomics aren't even notable on their own: some don't even have a paragraph of their own! Something like birthyear would be more fitting, I believe, but I thought this was enough work already. I think if we want to have a list of notable webcartoonists, we should focus on the person. Something like "non-webcomic works" could also work. I was also unsure on whether to add Joey Manley, but I wasn't even sure how to place him, as he's not an artist as far as I know... ~Mable (chat) 09:09, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
Hello. I know You put a lot of work into this. I am so swamped today, I'm sorry, I promise I will get back to You on all of this as soon as I can. Which hopefully means tomorrow. --Ouro (blah blah) 21:37, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
Don't worry about it too much. I've already moved it into the mainspace, as the list of notable webcartoonists is far more complete than the old list we had. If you have any more ideas, I'm always happy to help out with it :) ~Mable (chat) 08:51, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

I did the top 25 list that was missing. If you're willing to rewrite anything, and maybe add the intro text that I was unsure on what to put, feel free to do so! igordebraga 18:02, 10 April 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, igordebraga, that's amazing! I've brought it up at Wikipedia talk:Top 25 Report#February 19-25 done at last, but I messed up the formatting of my ping so you weren't notified. ~Mable (chat) 07:47, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for April 17

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Eth's Skin, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Merfolk. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Your GA nomination of Webcomics and income

The article Webcomics and income you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Webcomics and income for things which need to be addressed. Would you be interested in writing an article on Professional Counter-Strike competition and Professional League of Legends competition? I think these are long overdue. Valoem talk contrib 23:10, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

@Valoem: They definitely are! But I'm sorry to say I'm not interested in writing articles on these two topics for the forseeable future. Professional Hearthstone play wasn't really that great an experience already, and I have very little interest in the long history of Counter-Strike and League of Legends culture. I hope someone else can take these huge projects on at some point. ~Mable (chat) 07:09, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

Trimming Professional SSB Comp

This is the version I've trimmed down to here, I think Inzo's version removed a bit too much, the player rankings can be sourced, which I've added. Valoem talk contrib 18:13, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

Yes it's a reasonable question, and if you want to spend your time answering answering it go right ahead. The person you are answering it for is the sock of a long term abuser though, and this post is just a less-trolling version of his typical talk page garbage. After three days with no response I cleaned it up. 23:01, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

@Meters: Ah, I'm sorry, I was unaware of this. I suppose it doesn't matter much ^_^; ~Mable (chat) 09:02, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

DYK for 17776

On 16 August 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 17776, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a story about the state of American football in the year 17776 has been compared to the work of Don DeLillo, Italo Calvino, Thomas Pynchon, and robot trolls on Reddit? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/17776. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, 17776), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
