QUESTION

Recently i was editing Rastriya Janamukti Party, i had added more information you can see history there but were all deleted. I am concerned i all put information referencing official site of that party and Gore Bahadur Khapangi passed away on Aug 2016[1]. I put "was" and it was deleted too. I just want to know why it is removed all of those information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shyam bahadur sunari magar (talkcontribs) 11:11, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

and did you really delete half of my work?! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lenagasc (talkcontribs) 12:58, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi, My name is Jamie and I got a message saying an article, I had written, had been deleted. I am new to Wikipedia and don't really know how to make an article. I am a member in a golf club and in the past few weeks a member called Jack Hume turned professional. He is only young and has played on Walker cups and won around the world as an ameatur and will try to do the same as a pro. I think the Wikipedia page should be made for him because he is going to have a professional career on tour. I don't no how to make a page so if I send you his details(age, name, wins and all the things that is on other golf professionals page) will you create a page about him. I am going to find out the details through the golf club so could you do that? Jamiebutler (talk) 16:05, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

Look mate, I have tried to make a page by lookng at the create a page and all of them and I just can't master it. If I send you on details and try and get references can you make the page? Please Jamiebutler (talk) 20:16, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

Thank you.

Question

Thanks for your help with Peter Richtarik. I have some questions:

  • You keep deleting doctoral_students. Now I see your comment, where you say that students should only be included when notable. This seems not to be true, as there is a special entry for notable students: notable_students. The style says these need to be notable.
  • Why did you delete doctoral_advisor? Is this because there is no WP page dedicated to this person?
  • You deleted some 3rd party sources from the lead sentences, saying ideally those sentences should not need references. However, someone marked this page for deletion before, saying 3rd party references are needed to establish notability. That's what I did - but you removed these. Can you put them back to a different spot?

Speedy deletion nominations

Hi. Please take a look at the criteria for speedy deletion. Many of your nominations are a bit wide of the mark, especially with respect to userspace drafts, nominated under WP:U5. That should be reserved for much more obvious cases than some of the ones I've seen you nominate. Thanks. Toddst1 (talk) 22:42, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks. I am familiar with the criteria, but understand that different people interpret it differently. I think "many" is an overreach, as is calling the nomination of a page written by an editor about themselves with (as far as I can see) not one reference that actually mentions them "bogus", but we can see things differently, no dramas. If you disagree with my nominations, feel free to remove them as you have been doing - that's how the system works. Cheers, Melcous (talk) 23:30, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Mark Burgess

Hi, thanks for policing wikipedia. I really don't know how to do a public service and correct poorly written material about my work (or add explanations of general interest). As a scientist I am a public figure, so apparently excluded from editing, it seems. I want to be helpful but the regulations you state seem to make it impossible. Will my carefully prepared work now be deleted? As a writer, and teacher, I could help. But I can't. I think the rules assume the worst without good reason. Why not evaluate the changes to see that they only add information that would be helpful in pointing readers to references about the subject? Anyone could have added this, but no one did. Instead of asking others to work on my behalf, I contributed directly.

There will always be a fine line between what is considered pedagogy and what is considered promotion, where concepts and ideas are concerned. This is a dilemma. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarkBurgess (talkcontribs) 08:58, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

Nice try, but I did not create these pages about me or my work. I am just trying to make them accurate. No good deed goes unpunished, I guess. I give up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarkBurgess (talkcontribs) 09:11, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

"Nice try" means that even rules should be questioned when they are not clearly thought through. Yes, it is helpful to know what you were referring to. I think the semantic spacetime article is well written and completely impartial. I wrote it in response tp questions I received, and I thought it would serve a wider audience on wikipedia. I challenge anyone to do a better job. But fine. Delete it. I will publish it elsewhere. If I seem irritated it is because I think "the rules" unfairly stigmatize self contribution as negative. Sometimes information comes best from the horse's mouth, in a good spirit. It can be criticized later, but why block it up front. As Disraeli said: the law is an ass. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarkBurgess (talkcontribs) 09:22, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

Pistolsmith

Hello, I would like to address your rejection of my update to "Pistolsmith". I am not addressing gunsmithing as a whole, only pistolsmithing. My update to Wiki "Pistolsmith" was not intended as any promotion of my business, it was intended to upgrade the current mis-information, to give credit to a another pistolsmith whom is now dead (a former competitor, not friend), and to revise the incorrect and ignorant posting that implies that a red dot scope on a pistol was a new innovation in 2011.

I have been a custom pistolsmith for over 30 years, so I think I am well qualified to expound on this subject. I have invented and re-invented numerous parts and concepts in the handgun field. I do not know it all, but I do know most, in this field. Red dot scopes for guns have been around since the early to mid 1980's; I personally installed one on a revolver in 1985 I believe (photo available); I was also one of the first gunsmiths to mount red dot scopes on semi-auto pistols in the mid to late 1980's, as well as helium neon lasers.

The photo links I included in my wiki update were not solicitations, they were unique photo representations of what "pistolsmithing" is truly about. And again, the gun in the first photo I referenced was not made by me, it was by a pioneer in this field "Jim Clark" who passed away in 2015. If it was only the watermarking on my reference photos that bothred you, I suppose I can hunt though old photos and find something similar that I did not watermark. I hope my words here clarify my update a little, so you and others will re-think the facts and motives that you may have misunderstood before this explanation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TJsCustom (talkcontribs) 05:54, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Dear Melcoues,: thank you for the helpful comment. Sorry for removing maintenance templates from the page of Tibor Ney. I tried to improve the style, grammar and collected more information about him. However, my English grammar checker doesn't show any fault in the text now. Another problem, I created duplicate issues – based on the Hungarian (Ney Tibor) article, what I don’t know how to solve. Sorry about my mistakes. Now the Hungarian and English version is linked, both has the same Wikidata item ID: Q26270158. I hope the multiple issues problem is solved. Bain murders

I see you have been involved in editing the Bain murders page. I recently made a minor change to the the intro. It used to read: "Bain's case was taken up by businessman and former All Black, Joe Karam." After his name I added "who believed that David was innocent." These words has been removed despite overwhelming evidence of Karam's stance on this matter. I have started a discussion about this on the Talk page and got into a war of words with Akldguy. He seems incapable of accepting the numerous citations, including a book written by Karam, which clearly show that Karam believed David Bain was innocent. Could you take a look and see if you can break this impasse please. Histrange (talk) 19:12, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

@Melcous. On 28 October you wrote: "You have also still not really understood what the objection to your proposed addition about Karam's beliefs was, it wasn't that his books were unreliable sources, it was that you wanted to use them to infer that he had a particular state of mind at a particular time, which was not directly stated." This has been bugging me. You are right that I did not understand what your objection was. This is because the dispute began with Auckland guy, and he kept overturning my contribution solely on the basis that the sources I provided were not reliable. So that was my focus. You supported Auckland guy but never stated that you thought Karam's books were reliable sources - until 28 October long after the dispute was over. You should have said so at the start and differentiated your position from that of Auckland guy.

I'm a lawyer and a rules and policies man. I'm quite capable of analytical reasoning. But how am I supposed to understand your perspective if you don't make it clear? You may be interested in the conversation I am having on Aircon's talk page about why so many wiki editors seem to ignore wiki rules and policies. Histrange (talk) 21:49, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

We want to test them for usability with editors who are experienced with relevant wiki work. If you’re interested in helping to shape this new technology—we’d like to hear from you.

The testing should take about an hour, will be conducted online, and will take place during the next few weeks. To participate, please email dchen[at]wikimedia.org with the subject line Twinkle User. Include the following information:

  • Username
  • Email where we can reach you
  • Your city or time zone
  • Best time to talk to you
  • Your primary use of Twinkle or Recent Changes (e.g., reviewing recent changes, reviewing with a particular focus (specify), anti-vandalism, new-page review, welcoming new users, etc.)

Please do not misuse the CSD templates, as you did at US v Rehlander.

Information icon Hello, I'm Elvey. I noticed that you attempted to have removed: topically-relevant content from US v Rehlander. However, Wikipedia is not censored. Please let me know if you think I or you made a mistake. I think http://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-1st-circuit/1591098.html is not copyrighted content; the copyright notice there is copyfraud; the content at US v Rehlander is covered by {{PD-USGov}}. More particularly, see {{PD-EdictGov}}. Elvey(tc) 00:49, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

Try to be open to constructive feedback. Try to be respectful of the request when you see this on a page: If I start a discussion on your talk page, please reply there as I'll be watching your talk page for any reply.. You weren't. Rather you replied to the above on my talk page. :-(
I'm not planning on working on the article.
I am simply letting you know you misused a template, and attempting inform you of copyright policy your comment on my page indicates you are not aware of. You seem to resent my doing so and refuse to acknowledge your error or shortcoming. Leaving me wondering if you read {{PD-USGov}} or {{PD-EdictGov}} yet. :-( That you indicate a problem with my doing any of that - bringing up the dubious DTR essay and insist I was unhelpful is more of a reflection on your behavior than anything else. --Elvey(tc) 05:35, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
Wow. Yep, my bad, I did not notice that request on your talk page. Not that it really matters now, but I didn't "insist that you were unhelpful", I said I thought the template was unhelpful. The warning is about censorship, which I still can't see how anyone would think was my intention. Obviously tone is notoriously difficult to communicate, but my link to DTR was an attempt at a friendly observation that standardised templates are not always the most effective method of communicating. I did look at the public domain templates you linked to and I can see that a sd tag might not have been appropriate, but the wholesale copying and pasting of any source, public domain or not, without attribution or comment, doesn't really seem to me to make an appropriate encyclopaedia article. But hey, at least the article is now being worked on and improved by those of us who didn't "plan to" a few short hours ago. Cheers, Melcous (talk) 06:27, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
Agreed. :-) Though the seriousness of an attempt to remove an entire article clearly contrary to policy, compared to an attempted communication arguably contrary to a dubious essay urging non-use of templates you yourself use often aren't in the same ballpark. IMO. I accept your observation. Would that you'd accepted mine. Instead you continued to use an inappropriate template yourself to make extremely inappropriate assertions of "(possible) violation of Wikipedia's copyright policy". WT? Wow. Just looked at the page's edit history. Put yourself in newbie User:KatahdinFather's shoes. Multiple attempts to delete his new article, AND multiple accusations, completely without merit, of copyright violations. Friendly observation: You not only violate WP:BITE policy, but WP:DTA too! I suggest you follow up on your edit to User_talk:KatahdinFather. I encourage you to follow up with something that's purely nice and encouraging and apologetic while avoiding giving advice or criticism, especially defensively. (See this exemplary diff, IMNSHO even though it "violates" the DTTR essay.) Take Care, --Elvey(tc) 17:52, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

oastandhopkiln history

Thank you for your response to my attempts to add to the wiki page on oast houses. My site is a small example of teh same motivation that inspires wiikipedia - sharing know how. There is no commercial dimension and ther eis no promotional motive other than sharing information. In that sense it is much less promotional than some of the other external links on the site such as Tonbrideg and Rainham Oast Theatres. Given the depth of knowledge on my website the wiki entry on oasts (and hop kilns) can be greatly enhanced by it as a source and external link, and I understand that is the aim of contributors to wiki sites. I woudl be very happy to comtribiute soem images to teh site. So maybe we can straighten this out, though I may need to get more genned upon contributing

I am sorry that I do not cover oasts of Tasmania - though the y look more like English oasts than any others around teh world.

I am a paid up supported of Wikipedia.

HI Patrick, the issue is one of conflict of interest, so the problem was you personally adding the link to your own website. If you had suggested adding it on the article's talk page and then other editors without a COI had added it, that would be fine. Mjroots has offered to help you, so if he puts the link there, then the COI issue is avoided. I'm sorry if that seems like a tedious process, but as I'm sure you can understand, lots of people add links to their own websites on wikipedia all the time, so there is a fairly strict COI policy to avoid the appearance and practice of self-promotion. Cheers, Melcous (talk) 23:31, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

Jet-pro-tool

Hello Melcous and I appreciate your efforts to edit Wikipedia keep things in line.

I recently added a link to the jet.com page 2 times. Adding jet pro tool as a api software integration company that is recognized as such by jet. com. I only added this because the other companies that are also software api integration partners are listed there. They apparently were able to be added to the list yet you have deleted my link twice. I see no reason why some companies can be on there yet others cannot. I think in all interest of fairness, it should be all or none. When I added the links this morning, It gave me a warning and a link to state why I felt the lerror message was incorrect. I responded as advised. Do you not have access to that information? The least you could have done is actually click the link that I added which would have taken you to my site which clearly states our relationship with jet.com. What needs to be done to get this fixed? I await your response. thank you Jet-pro-tool (talk) 01:22, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

I notice that there is a link for the parish council website, so I assumed that a link to the Kelsey Hall website would be appropriate.Kelsey Hall (talk) 12:07, 30 September 2016 (UTC)Kelsey Hall.

Thank you for patrolng new pages. Please be sure to informthe creator when you tag or maintenance issues such as at Argyranthemum adauctum. A cup of coffee for you!

Hi. Thanks for your so nice & warm welcome @ Wikipedia. After your reviewed I am accepting that yes both page are on same issue and I could include my information on the previous one. Here the problem is previous writer basically made mistake on the Title "Daulatpur Mohsin High School" it should be "Muhsin" instead of "Mohsin" moreover my page was I think more informative indeed.

So please consider the issue for a kind solution and lets enjoy a friendly coffee together.

Bain family

Hi, I see you are still active at this article. I am sorry for abandoning it, but lacked the time to deal with the spa's and tenditious nature where even minor changes resulted in long discussions. My attention was brought back to it by a slightly suspicious comment left on my talk page. It just so happens I have found some time on my hands so might take another look at this article. I thought I might ask your opinion on the major issues currently before jumping back in head first as you were easily the most sensible one there last time I was there. --AIRcorn (talk) 21:54, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

Hello again. I know you are understandably a bit sick of this article, but if you have time can you look at User:Aircorn/sandbox/Bain trials. I have reduced the related sections considerably and got rid of the competing sub-headings. My plan is to use it to replace everything from "First trial" to "Cost to taxpayer" in the main article. I might then put it up to RFC with the option of (1) replacing the current info, (2) replacing the current info in this article, but content forking that information to a new one (Trial of David Bain or similar), or (3) leaving the current article as is. Anyway I would appreciate you looking at it. Feel free to edit it directly. Thanks AIRcorn (talk) 00:08, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Nevermind. The article was changing a bit too much, so I just went for the WP:Bold move of inserting the trimmed version while the version it was based on still resembled it somewhat. Will see what unfolds. AIRcorn (talk) 21:21, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Question why page was deleted, yet similar pages exist?

Hi Melcous, I created a page for Erindale College, Canberra which appears to have been deleted by you. Why does Wikepidia allow identical pages for other Schools/Colleges both public and private such as

Wikipedia Protocol Question

Hi Melcous,

My name is Allie. I have an inquiry, if you please? I have been reading the COI pages and as you know there is a lot of information to navigate. What I am reading is that, in essence, an organization cannot create its own Wikipedia page due to the Conflict of Interest clause. Am I to understand COI is based on the potential to be biased? Is it also to be understood that no one, in an organization, or having any type of relationship with said organization is permitted to craft the article?

Thank you in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:40D:4300:5EF0:3876:F66D:E02F:BCB0 (talk) 02:47, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi Allie, thanks for your message. There is a lot to read in the guidelines, but thank you for having a look at them and taking them seriously. Yes, essentially, it is frowned upon for people working within an organisation to create an article about it, or directly edit it.
That being said, there are a couple of alternative options. One is to request an article be created by someone else. If you click on that link it will take you to a page where you can request an article, providing a brief overview of why you think the organisation is notable and pointing to some reliable sources about it and then waiting for a non-COI editor to take an interest and create the article.
The other option is to carefully create a draft and invite neutral editors to comment and help you work on it over time to make sure it is not in any way promotional, and then to submit the draft for review so that a non-biased moderator can decide if it should become an article.
Once an article is created, COI editors should then make suggestions for any changes on the talk page of the article and let other editors without a COI edit the article directly. I hope that helps. Regards, Melcous (talk) 04:12, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi Melcous,

Thank you for your response. It does make the process more clear. I will keep reading. Do you mind if I ask questions when they arise?

Your Deletion

You recently deleted the Topic Dax VanFossen under "Miles City". While I understand that you do not want external links, I'm not exactly sure why you deleted the line. The only reason I added those links were as a reference. Not advertisement. If you click on those links, it proves that Dax VanFossen has been a radio and television personality for more than 15 years. So if Dax can't be on there, then you should remove all News, Television and Radio personalities from Wikipedia.

Dax VanFossen (talk) 13:40, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) Dax VanFossen, I hope you can see the difference between the entry about you that linked to Dax VanFossen and all the rest of the people in that list. Hint, look at the color of the links. If you think you belong, the link should be blue not red. Wikipedia has a way to determine who is notable, see Wikipedia:Notability (people). The people who are in the lists of notable people in articles should meet those guidelines and have an article. Before you decide to write an article about yourself, you should read, Wikipedia:Your first article and Wikipedia:Autobiography. -- GB fan 14:07, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer granted

Hello Melcous. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator.

The Kukri and its notch.

Hi Melcous, I noticed you'd undone my efforts on the kukri page and I wondered if I could enlist your help in either making my edit stick or improving it to good wiki standards. I notice you have teaching credentials so naturally educating people with facts should be a priority for you. Now I'm not very good with this wikipedia thing, I'm not very good with researching things and providing evidences to back up my statements, nor do I have certificates, degrees and credentials. What I do have is a fair understanding of Physics and Engineering and I do know that what I wrote about the Kukri's notch is correct and I really want to dispel all the myths and misunderstandings about the notch and its purpose.

People claim that nobody knows what the notch is for and that's a rather foolish claim to make. It's also foolish to resort to religious meanings or ritualistic meanings simply due to lack of understand what it is for. When the Kukri itself is an engineered tool, the most plausible and logical reason for the notch lies in its engineering and any other supposition does serious disservice to the talents of those who created the Kukri and understood what they were doing. Ancient Nepalese weren't imbeciles simply because they lacked modern industry. We can't reduce everything down to religous or ritualistic purpose in lieu of reasonable facts.

I did provide links in my edit but I perhaps posted them in the wrong place, one link was referring to vibrational wave propagation theory and the other link referred to a paper on engineering science of "blunt notches" and cyclic fatigue crack propagation. The links were posted at the bottom of my article.

My proposal about the Kukri notch is that the notch itself has an effect on vibrational propagation in reducing high frequency vibrations pinging in the fingers and the dividing prong in the middle gives the blunt notch it's strength back and prevents crack from developing and propagating in the root of the notch.

So please, I would be very grateful if you could maybe spend some time and help me correct the injustice that history has done to the intelligence of the Nepalese people... It's akin to wiping out knowledge of Japanese steel blade making and folding, forge welding carbon into their steels. I notice there's a user by the name of Materialscientist, perhaps he could offer some professional input and wiki experience. Can you help correct history and teach people the truth of the notch? I just feel a bit stuck now due to inexperience with wiki. Edit: since I've discovered I can in fact sign and send comments, when I struggled yesterday, I'll attempt to message user:Materialscientist also. Thanks. 1840fourpence (talk) 21:33, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

Re: Kukri notch reply

Thanks ever so much for the prompt reply. However the topic of the notch is difficult to reference without resorting to papers on engineering principles, material mechanics and waveform propagation. I can't cite reliable sources that specifically talk about the kukri notch and the claims I make because the only sources I find are full of the kind of fanciful conjecture I'm trying to lay to rest. I'm sure I'm not the only person to have this idea, the bare essence of it was given to me by someone else, by way of a very brief statement, some years ago. I've forgotten who it was but I've built on that brief statement and come to a genuine understanding of the notch's form and function. Doing original research would be impossible for me, I don't have have the means to do studies on kukris and compile lab data. Besides the Nepalese already did it but for some reason the science doesn't get handed down in practice. You see my dilemma? It's not a question of historical reference, but scientific reference.... historical references are either wrong or baseless guesswork. The very best I could do is link papers which detail material science, engineering principles and physics.

Is it not enough to show the scientific principles at play and allow the truth to stand for itself? Otherwise I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. My only hope, then, of redressing the balance of truth and fiction is to hope User:Materialscientist can get on board with some sound input. In the meantime I'll try writing an article offsite, comparing chopping tools and showing principles at work.

I'm sorry, I seem to have become quite passionate about this issue, as slight and trivial as it may seem, and my head hits a wall... but thanks for the advice. Thanks again. 1840fourpence (talk) 23:34, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

Lesara & Roman Kirsch

Hi Melcous, thanks for pointing out that there may be some sort of sockpuppetry with these articles. Look, i got back to Lesara and i'm trying to do the same with Roman's. Nevertheless i don't want to be involved in this suckpuppetry thing. Do you feel it would be better to leave this articles alone until it is over or should I edit them further?

Nespresso

Hello,

I saw you deleted my external link on the Nespresso page.

For a long time this page included a list of Nespresso capsule flavors and especially the Limited Editions, which come out every year. At same point earlier this year these were removed, because of concerns on product positioning.

In any case I believe a lot of people are interested in this information. Do you believe there is any way to include this info in Wikipedia?

Thanks,

About the Psalms Article...

First, if arguments in favor of David being the author that dispute the baseless notion that he did not compose and write the Psalms does not belong in the lead, then that's fine with me, if you are willing to remove the highly controversial, unfounded suggestion that David was not the author of the Psalms from the lead as well. It is my understanding that Wikipedia policies do not allow only for one point of view to be discussed WP:NPOV, especially when that one point of view is in the minority, on the WP:FRINGE, and it undermines the beliefs of millions of people without having any real evidence to support their claim. And yes, denying the authenticity of various aspect of the Jewish Holy Books is one of many forms of Persecution of Jews, and it is particularly similar to Temple Denial, where pseudo academics attempt to cast doubt on the validity of every aspect of the Jews' history, even the authorship of the Psalms. If you are either willing to remove the statement that questions David's authorship, or you are willing to allow a counter-argument, then we can put this issue to rest immediately. If you don't like how I worded the argument, then please help me to re-word it in a way that meets Wikipedia standards and your own personal expectations. If you don't think an argument of this nature should be in the lead, then please remove the statement that questions David's authorship from the lead as well, and place it in the body of the article (actually, it already appears in the body, so removing it from the lead should suffice).

In either case, please restore the portion of the article (reprinted below for your convenience) which lists all of the other authors of the Psalms (as they are listed in the Talmud), as well as the statement about David being the composer of the Psalms (not merely the author of some of them), because this information is not found anywhere else in the article. I hope you will agree that the names of the authors of the Psalms does belong in the lead (especially since David's name was already in the lead, yet he was not the only author).

This is the statement I would like restored, with your permission:

Thousands of years of Jewish tradition have consistently asserted that David is also the composer of the book of Psalms, and that other authors include Adam, Melchizedek, Abraham, Moses, Heiman, Yedutun, Asaph, and the three sons of Korach. [1]

Is there any reason you object to having this statement being in the lead? I'm not sure what should be in the lead of an article on the Psalms, if the names of the authors of the Psalms should not be. 24.119.20.133 (talk) 00:55, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello Melcous,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 819 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Hello Melcous, You sent me a message regarding my edit on the "Otter (dinghy)" page: "Please do not add inappropriate external links..." I wonder if you can give me some advice on this matter? The Wikipedia article refers to the original sales brochure -- one of the only pieces of documentation which exist for this boat. I have an offline copy of this document, and it is not available on the web -- except that I host it on my own website. In the wikipedia article, I refer to the sales document -- but the only way to do this, is to refer to my own webpage on which it is hosted. You have reverted the link (to an older version of my webpage which is no longer maintained) on the grounds that the link is "inappropriate". I am aware that it is not good practice to add links to one's own private website... but how else is it possible to refer to such a document? Afterall, I am not referring to my own intellectual material; I am just using my own website to host content which is otherwise unavailable to the public. If you have any advice on this matter then I'd be pleased to hear it. Regards, Quantum.wells (talk) 13:47, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

Ritchie Boys edits

Hello, Melcous, I am a beginner to editing on Wikipedia and I apologize if I have broken some rule or edited in an improper way. However, the web-site I entered as a link on "Ritchie Boys" is NOT a promotional web-site. I am have done extensive research on the Ritchie Boys, have written a book about one of them, and give talks at libraries, museums, and to veterans' groups about the Ritchie Boys. The web-site www.klangslattery.com has a page devoted to the Ritchie Boys and gives information about them and their role in WWII. My regular blog also has much information about the Ritchie Boys and Camp Ritchie. I therefore feel this web-site is an appropriate link and reference for the article on the Ritchie Boys.

Perhaps you would be willing to help me add factual information to the article in the correct manner. I tried to use the reference of http://www.klangslattery.com/ritchie-boys as a reference to the material I added to the article. That was my only intent. Please contact me directly if you wish through the web-site.

I have done as you suggested, but couldn't help but notice that an extensive suggestion made on the Ritchie Boy talk page more than a year ago was never acted upon by any editor. So how can I ensure that notice will be paid to my request. I would be willing to improve the Ritchie Boy article substantially, but as I don't seem to know all the ins and outs of doing it properly, I need some help and guidance. Especially, how to reference/cite information supplied by Dan Gross, who has done the most extensive research on the Ritchie Boys, but who does not have a web-site or other citable material. He has all his research on his private computer and has been a generous source of information for myself and others interested in facts about the Ritchie Boys. Deleting my article

Hello, I was just wondering why you keep deleting my entry under the page "Hyperspectral Imaging". There is a dedicated point "Software Resources" with the sub-point "Commercial Software". All software there is made by companies and all of the described software links to external pages of companies - and of course they do, because software is naturally programmed by someone and do not appear from nothing. So I'm wondering why you only delete my entry and don't delete all the other commercial software tools as well.
