Please cooperate!

Our Institute is undergoing a transition from Indian School of Mines to a full fledged Indian Institute of Technology. Under such conditions often the page is hard to maintain with conflicting opinions and interests. You asked me not to add information without sources, and though we can vouch for most of the information, we did comply. However, when I am linking to an external site and that too the FB page of the official Branding and Relations Cell of our college, you cannot just prevent me from doing so. It's an external link and Wikipedia affords me the ability to link to an external page. I did not publish information not accounted for on Wikipedia but on an external website particularly because it is important to our college and made an external link to it, those who see the document are told explicitly that this information is published courtesy the Branding and Relations Cell, IIT Dhanbad. What's not on Wikipedia cannot violate its terms. Please think before removing too much information from the page. Several people choose a college based on its achievements in India and we need to show ours. --Souradeep1996 (talk) 13:37, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Please stop editing the page because you are violating Wikipedia conflict of interests policies. That's all I have to say to you before reporting this up. --Muhandes (talk) 13:44, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Have a look at this page too then, I do believe this page violates a lot of principles too

Please look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Institute_of_Technology,_BHU I'm sure you could improve their page too. You removed the entire table that documented the degree courses of our institute and also a lot of information on Alumni, etc. so if in reality all those violated conditions, please do justice to the page mentioned above too.--Souradeep1996 (talk) 14:02, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Your point? I can improve almost every article in Wikipedia. In fact, I am now making sure one particular repeat offender stops editing an article about his own university against a few dozen policies! I keep pointing him to the relevant policies, but he ignores them. Once I'm done with that I might look at other articles. --Muhandes (talk) 14:09, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Fine, I'll not make any major edit on the mentioned Wikipedia page but if so many policies hold good for this particular page,so should they for others too. There's a very specific reason I asked you to look into the page I linked to. Both BHU and ISM are converted IITs and we are closely trying to do things the way they have done. However, it seems, that violates Wikipedia's policies, to the point most information cannot be disseminated. Fine, what's rule, is a rule. I've given up trying too. What's not to be, won't be, all I ask is a non-preferential treatment. If you really are concerned about Wikipedia policies, please do review that article.--Souradeep1996 (talk) 14:39, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Help needed to add more information

I understand that as per the Conflict of Interests clause I am ineligible to edit the Wikipedia page of my own university. Given that prerogative and the fact that most people who edit the page are students or former students, the page will be left with no Editors. So I request you to at least help us in adding missing information to our page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Institute_of_Technology_(ISM),_Dhanbad in a way that does not violate applicable policies. For a reference, this page https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Institute_of_Technology,_BHU could be referred to. It has the same status as our institute and our Wikipedia page needs to have content in all the similar categories. I'd be happy to help with the information if you could edit it for us or at least advise us on how to do it right. --Souradeep1996 (talk) 01:29, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

I can try to assist, but keep in mind that everything I removed was not done in spite. Wikipedia is not a guide, nor is it a catalog. It is not a place for advertising your institute. It most definitely does not exist because "several people choose a college based on its achievements in India and we need to show ours" as you said. If you want that, hire an advertising agency, write pamphlets, pay for radio advertisement or use whatever other form of marketing. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, a written compendium of knowledge. So if you want to provide encyclopedic knowledge, I can try to assist you with it, with the little time I have. Otherwise, you are wasting both your time and mine. --Muhandes (talk) 12:03, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
I would add that the fact that another of the 6,823,145 articles in the English Wikipedia violates policies is irrelevant. Other people are criminals, it doesn't mean you are me can be. --Muhandes (talk) 12:06, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

I agree, it's only that we want to add as much information as is legally permitted by Wikipedia in a format that conforms to its policies. Some of my actions seem to have perturbed you deeply, I should say I am new to Wikipedia, I am not used to its severity. I am a Quoran, so I did find some things natural which were obviously not conforming to Wikipedia standards. Sorry! The only reason for mentioning the other page is that it has a lot of information in different categories, categories that we also want to add to our page, we want to create something similar and as informative. So, if everything on that page is correct and conforming to Wikipedia policies, perhaps you could tell us how to do the same for our page. Some points:

1.) We'd definitely like to have the 'Programme' table just as they have (and as we once had) if it's possible to have it on the page legally.

2.) They have an exhaustive alumni list, however many are without citations, though we have an exhaustive list, in our case too, we do not have enough citations, so is it absolutely wrong to have their names on the page without citations?

3.) We had a gallery on the page which was removed. I had uploaded all the images on Wikipedia Commons. They are of the college and belonged to me. Can you please tell us how to create a gallery on the page conforming to Wikipedia policies?

4.) We have an exhaustive list of Start-ups I can vouch for, however possibly the citations provided were not good enough. What kind of pages can I cite to make the information accounted for.

I trust that you realise these are honest doubts and I'm not trying to advertise my institute or anything, I just want to ensure an informative Wikipedia page that would document all facts about the institute concerning every category. I think that is what you meant by encyclopaedic knowledge. Being a representative of the Branding & Relations Cell of my college, that is something I have been entrusted with, so I hope you'd help me. --Souradeep1996 (talk) 18:03, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

Please read WP:NOT. None of what you asked for really belongs in an Encyclopedia, which is why I removed them in the first place. --Muhandes (talk) 22:17, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

Okay, thanks! Can you please tell us what more could be done so that we might have a better page rating for our page? Obviously since the page is rated as C, it leaves a lot to be desired. --Souradeep1996 (talk) 13:34, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

Take example from better articles. Indian Institute of Management Lucknow and The Doon School are examples of Good Articles for education institutes in India. Note especially the secondary sources, the neutrality and the lack of excessive lists (of course some editors keep ruining it, note I had to remove alumni which were added lately). If you feel you are up to it, start working on it on your sandbox. --Muhandes (talk) 13:58, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

Thank you, I'll try to keep the points in mind.--Souradeep1996 (talk) 06:57, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

Template:Certification Table Entry

Hello Muhandes, I have a quick question for you regarding the above template and its sub-templates... quite simply, the German certifications now use a slightly different web address, but I can't find out where to change the web address within the template(s) so that it redirects to the new address and calls it correctly, because at the moment they all go to the dead link of the old address – see Template talk:Certification Table Entry#BVMI Germany site updated. Hopefully it's just a very quick fix. Thanks. Richard3120 (talk) 19:15, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi Richard3120. The linking is done through {{Cite certification}} or more specifically {{Certification Cite/URL}}. Be careful though, it's used by quite a number of pages. --Muhandes (talk) 13:54, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
Ah, no wonder I couldn't find it, I was looking through the subpages of Certfication Table Entry, as mentioned above. Thanks for the warning, though: I'll see what pages the template links to and try out the changes in the sandbox first. Richard3120 (talk) 15:50, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

Please help me update the logo for Wikipedia Page named Srijan

The Wikipedia page Srijan needs to be updated with the official new logo. Several unintended copyright violations have occurred and I might have a conflict of interest due to which I do not want to have much to do with the page and yet I have been assigned to update the page with information by my college. Under such circumstances, I request you to make the change for me. I have the file but I'm not sure where to upload it, even embedding it here seems to be fraught with technicalities. I am the copyright owner of the file though. However, that has been the case with a lot of my files and yet they have been marked as violations, thus I do not want to take any chances. Please tell me how to upload files to the English Wikipedia under fair use policy.--Souradeep1996 (talk) 15:15, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

Yes, Wikipedia is very strict. I'll take care of it. --Muhandes (talk) 18:47, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your edits on Institute of Chemical Technology. :-) —usernamekiran(talk) 13:53, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

ranking edit on rvce/msrit

hi ,

i had made changes on rvce/msrit pages. but those have been removed stating unreliable source. the ranking which is done is based upon placement stats of a college and the data required to do such a ranking is sourced from website of these colleges.

how am i supposed to show you the whole data i have also how to get those edits back in place?? Arush365 (talk) 21:25, 4 June 2017 (UTC) --Key lock01011 (talk) 10:12, 16 June 2017 (UTC)

The rankings section is about academic rankings. No popularity rankings, placement rankings, user rankings awards etc. should appear in this section. We also don't introduce rankings from sources without proven notability. entranceplus is placements based as has no proven notability, so please don't use its ranking in Wikipedia. --Muhandes (talk) 14:01, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

Indic Script

Thank you for directing me to the wiki-policy regarding the use of Indic Scripts. But, can we write IAST format? Many articles with 'IAST' still exist.Neurofreak (talk) 21:20, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

I don't know. You should probably ask in WT:IN. --Muhandes (talk) 21:22, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

INIs vs Central Universities

Institutions of National Importance or INIs are a separate category of 'degree imparting' entity in India. None of the "INI" except RLBCAU figured in that UGC "Central University" list. I think the word 'central' in RLBCAU confused the UGC authorities, but that doesn't make it a 'central university'. The act of parliament invoked for the declaration/establishment are different for INIs and Central Universities. The statutes (funding model, governance structure etc.) are completely different. For example, compare The Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University Act, 2014[1] vs The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology Act, 2007[2] vs The Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University Act, 2013[3]. The first two are INIs and the third one is a "Central University". You can also check the section "Universities/University Level Institution" on MHRD website.[4] Following are the categories of degree imparting entities in India:

  • Central Universities
  • State Universities
  • Deemed University
  • Institution of National Importance
  • State Private Universities

Neurofreak (talk) 23:20, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see how any of the sources you provided shows that a central university cannot be an INI. Can you please say what source, at what page, or maybe quote the exact words that say "an INI cannot be a central university"? Plus, the current list of central universities from UGC from 29.06.2017 lists Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University (see #28), so it is definitely a central university according to the UGC, which is, after all, the one deciding. Maybe they got confused like you said, or maybe the INI status was revoked. I don't know, and I don't do WP:OR, only WP:RELIABLE, so I don't see how it can be removed from Central universities. --Muhandes (talk) 23:37, 4 July 2017 (UTC)
The case of INIs and Central Universities is much more complex than one might have expected. Thanks to your response, I have included 3 more central universities after going through ALL the legislation's (Acts of Parliament) for the establishment of Universities. Neurofreak (talk) 23:18, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
Interesting. I've updated Central universities and now working on List of state universities in India. I'm planning on List of deemed universities in India and List of private universities in India later. All of these have an authority (UGC) which keeps a list. Seems like there is no such authority for List of Institutes of National Importance, so it's good to know you are keeping an eye on it. --Muhandes (talk) 22:02, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
Thanks! I've also been keeping tab on List of deemed universities in India. As you might be aware, 44 deemed universities were de-recognized based on a MHRD report. Out of 44, some acquire 'Private University' status and a few were upgraded by government itself. Since 2009, only three institutes were declared 'deemed' and that too under 'de-novo category'. So well, it's a bit controversial list, also vulnerable to disruptive editing by the affiliates of private universities. Anyway, really appreciate your contribution for the India's higher education articles. Neurofreak (talk) 23:18, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

That's why I offered my help. Would you rather that someone with a WP:COI do it? Surely you are not suggesting I have a COI?--Muhandes (talk) 10:38, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

No I was saying it would be a coi for Manjeet2390. It would be best to ask them to stay away from the page considering they've dumped promotional material onto the page. King Kunta (talk) 11:40, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

WP:COI says "you may propose changes on talk pages". I am going to WP:AGF and think that's what Manjeet2390 was trying to do, they just didn't know how. --Muhandes (talk) 11:46, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Regarding Information Removal of University Wiki Page

Dear Muhandes,

I am writing you on behalf of Chandigarh University wiki page. I found our correct information has been deleted by you on daily basis, which is affecting our digital branding. Is there any specific reason behind this, because the information i uploaded is correct, Content is unique and original and i also uploaded proofs of what we uploaded.

Let me know in case of any error you found here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.227.144.148 (talkcontribs) 9:06, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Of course there is a reason. Wikipedia is not part of your digital branding. You will stop editing the page immediately or your IP address will be blocked. --Muhandes (talk) 09:49, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Info. Regarding Indirakala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya

Dear Muhandas,

First of all I want to clear you that the wikipedia is made for the people so that if anyone need information regarding anything so they can find out that in Wikipedia. It's good that anyone can edit in the wikipedia, but I think so that no one should have to take disadvantages of the facilities providing by the wikipedia, like you did to my edit. I edited the article about Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya to provide the people information about that university. I saw that all the things systematically and carefully edited by me, whether it is history, information, infobox edit, faculties information or anything, that is removed by you. I want to clear you that I am not branding, advertising anyone or anything, I just want to improve wikipedia articles and so that the people can have good knowledge regarding that topic and can understand that topic in a better way. If you have any doubt that the information added by me is fictional so you can research on that, or can ask someone intellegent, you will definitely found that it was just your doubt. and yes, some few things were edited by me was not upto to the terms and conditions but you erased all the things which were helpful. you should have to remove only those things which are opposing Wikipedia:College and university article advice. Hope so that from now you will not erase the information which will help other people. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Somprakash sahu (talkcontribs) 18:42, 20 August 2017 (UTC)

No, wikipedia is not here "to provide the people information about that university". For this the university has a Website and a Prospectus. Wikipedia is here to provide encyclopedic knowledge. Your edit had no sources and thus cannot provide such knowlege, as it fails the verifiability policy. Furthermore, as a student of the university you have a conflict of interests and should not edit the article at all. I left you ample information about the relevant policies on your talk page. If you wish to provide well sourced (preferably secondary sources), neutral information, do so on the talk page, and someone else can edit the page for you. --Muhandes (talk) 18:55, 20 August 2017 (UTC)

Do proper research before editing.

Why do you keep editing Faculty of law delhi university alumni list? If you're not sure whether Aditya ghosh is president of IndiGo and alumni of law faculty, call him or do proper research. I see you've removed the line 'Faculty of law is claimed to be one of the largest law schools in india', there are 2310 seats and no other law school in india provides that many seats. Call the bar council of India or any legitimate legal association of india. Don't edit without proper research. Demus101 (talk) 05:47, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

Please read what I write before making ridiculous claims and lecturing me about proper research. Here is my comment on your talk page, does it say anywhere that I have doubt whether Aditya Ghosh is president of IndiGo or alumnus of the law faculty? Here are my edits: [1] [2]. Do they in any way raise a concern about Aditya Ghosh being president of IndiGo or alumnus of the law faculty? Here is the notice text verbatim: "Please stop adding non-notable people to alumni lists, it goes against policy." The issue, clearly stated, is not verifiability but notability. Per the alumni policy all members of the list need to be notable. Typically this is established by creating an article. There is no article for Aditya Ghosh, so notability isn't established. Add it first, and then add the alumni, that's how we do things in Wikipedia. May I ask what's your relation to Aditya Ghosh or to the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi? --Muhandes (talk) 09:26, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

National Institute of Technology Sikkim

Hello, Muhandes, Thank you for informing me. The thing that you noticed as promotional is not for any promotional purposes. That section is for Technical festival organised by NITs and Abhiyantran is one of the technical festival organised by NIT Sikkim. Same for the Udgam i.e., Cultural festival of NIT Sikkim. So, as per my knowledge, I've not updated any wrong informational to the page. Thank you.

P.S- If you still find me wrong, do inform me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sangamcse (talkcontribs) 13:31, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

This edit introduced much more than information about festivals. Also, it is unsourced. Further, this edit and this edit introduced external links against policy. That is why they were reverted. --Muhandes (talk) 13:36, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for constantly informing me regarding National Institute of Technology Sikkim page. I'm the member of NIT Sikkim and I've seen from last 4-5 months and informed the Web- Development office of NIT Sikkim about the changes wikipedia pages. They told me to do correction to the page and after that I decided to correct the information that is still need to be updated. You can check any National Institute of Technology wikipedia page. They have their motto both in English and Hindi language. The same thing I did for National Institute of Technology Sikkim page. And Also every National Institute of Technology have their student's activity like their technical and cultural fest. In this case, Abhiyantran is Technical Fest that is organised by the Institute every year from past 4 years and Udgam is a cultural fest of the Institute that is being held every year since 2014. So, kindly update these or let me update these. These I've already updated but you reverted them. Kindly update these information. These are not any promotional content. These are official content. For any reference check these links: Student's Activity, Abhiyantran held in 2016, Udgam

PS.- I got the point that their should not any external links. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sangamcse (talkcontribs) 14:15, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

As a student in NIT Sikkim you have a conflict of interests (COI) and should not edit the page at all. I left you details about how to handle a COI on your talk page. Regarding other pages including title and motto in Indic scripts: see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. I will add some information about the fests to the page. Please remember to sign your comments. --Muhandes (talk) 14:23, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

If you have time, could you take a look at Category:Indian Institutes of Information Technology aswell please? It seems like 24 institutes are tagged as IIITs instead of 23. I am not entirely sure, which one is miscategorized (maybe Delhi?). GermanJoe (talk) 12:09, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

Done Indeed Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi which isn't an Indian Institutes of Information Technology was wrongfully categorized. --Muhandes (talk) 12:16, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

i am student of this college don't revert edits of my college — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.77.240.227 (talk) 13:41, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

Lets list the obvious:
  • As a student you have a conflict of interests and should not edit this page at all.
  • You added affiliation to Bar Council of India without a source.
  • You added "Dr. Aruna Sethi" as faculty. The faculty field is for number of faculty, not for names. Also MOS:DOCTOR.
  • You added a field "Popular_name" which is not supported
  • You added a caption field when there is no image
  • You added a redundant abbreviation "Govt. Law College, Ujjain", that's trivial.
So please stop your disruptive editing. If you wish to add something to the page, make a request on the Talk page. --Muhandes (talk) 13:46, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

about image suresh bhat sabhagriha

Please don't remove suresh bhat auditorium image It is one of signature landmark of nagpur city as mentioned by nitin gadkari in his speech .suresh bhat sabhagriha definitely going to play important part as far as culture of nagpur is concerned. So its my humble request don't remove it.Hope you will take my suggestion seriously. Bk kartik21 (talk) 17:03, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

If it is a signature landmark, why isn't it discussed in the article? Images are supposed to illustrate the article body, not add material. --Muhandes (talk) 19:11, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

About my edit to the Pin Code reference link of Delhi

Dear Muhandes,

Thank you for overlooking the edit I made on Delhi page. I noticed that the reference link of Pin Code section has been undo by ClueBot. Thank you for supporting me at first but the link has been Undo again. I'd request you to kindly guide me if the resource added on the page did not comply to the guidelines of Wikipedia.

ClueBot has asked why we do need to add this and I think that I replaced a resource where such format is not mentioned but on the resource I represented, it is available there to prove that the format is in correct pattern.

Looking forward to your kind guidance.

Best

Thank you for providing wikipedia how to use guide info

Dear Muhandes,

Thank you for your reply and thank you for sending me a guide on how to edit / use Wikipedia. Really appreciate it. I'd like to know one more thing, on many Wikipedia pages of villages / towns in India, I noticed that postal code information is not provided. This is something I'd like to contribute first. Can I add such information without adding a reference link? Is this allowed? Vikaskukreja83 (talk) 14:56, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

That's something you may want to ask at WT:INDIA. Personally, I think every fact needs a source, and you can always use https://www.indiapost.gov.in/vas/pages/FindPinCode.aspx as a reliable source for postal codes.--Muhandes (talk) 15:23, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

K. K. University

Hello Muhandes. The title of the article K. K. University is ambiguous and does not follow WP:ACRONYMTITLE. I could not find the expansion of the acronym. Could you please move the page by providing the complete name of the said university in the article title. Thanks. Mark the trainDiscuss 06:38, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi Mark the train. I tried and I can't find it. I believe it is the same for K. K. College of Engineering and Management and K. K. Polytechnic, which are more established institutions (the "K. K. Group of Institutions"), but their websites come empty too. I don't speak the language though, so it might be something obvious I'm missing. --Muhandes (talk) 08:24, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
Maybe it's a name just like in K. K. Venugopal (Kottayan Katankot). But that's pure ignorant speculation on my part - just stumbled over this article and noticed this post. GermanJoe (talk) 18:12, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

Bhai Parmanand Institute of Business Studies

Hi, I've reverted some of your edits/action on Bhai Parmanand Institute of Business Studies article which you were reverting continuously without discussing with the editor. I've gone through the College and university article advice which you has tagged while removing the list of programme offered by this particular institute where the advisory article that you'd tagged does not include details like do not mention programmes. I appropriate your efforts in making Wikipedia a more reliable source, but removing relevant information seems to be an inappropriate action. Even I think tagging the un-sourced claims/ information with uncite was more appropriate rather leaving source has nothing to do with the campus, removing unsourced information as comment and removing the entire details. In fact you have removed the festivals without going through it, what seems to you may be wrong or right (it could be both). The institute is ran by the Govt and the festivals that you'd removed were the part of the institution see this page no. 10.

Reverting one or two edits without discussing is fine, but making multiple similar action can lead to edit-conflicts. The best solution is to ask the editor to add cities or tag it with appropriate template and in case the editor fails to do, then go ahead and remove the contents. — Sanskari Hangout 04:04, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

@Sanskari: Ignoring WP:BRD, I think all my edits were justified. I still don't see a source for the fact "The main campus is located near the Vikas Marg, Shakarpur, New Delhi spread over an area of 8.5 acres shared with another institute, Ambedkar Institute of Technology formally" and I still think the source there is irrelevant and misleading. I still think the entire sentence "On Shakarpur campus the Govt. of NCT of Delhi Running to Campuses, Bhai Parmanand Institute of Business Studies and Ambedkar Institute of Technology since 1987 and imparting professional education to more than 1500 students". When there are 10 facts without source and two irrelevant sources, the prudent approach is to remove everything. Do you rather I slap 10 [citation needed] notices? Very well. --Muhandes (talk) 08:20, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
Addendum: I did my best to put sources where they belong and tag the rest. There is still much crud, but if that's the way you prefer it, I don't mind. --Muhandes (talk) 09:04, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

This is one of few important educational institution of national importance which has been set up in Nagpur, a comparatively small and underdeveloped city in India. The setting up a national law university in this city is extremely rare for this city which doesn't get such institutions usually. i have been reporting for this institution since its inception as a journalist. I l will leave you the links of Times of India a leading newspaper with the largest circulation in India and other leading newspapers which have used the term ' PRESTIGIOUS' , since you have a problem with that term . Please don't make unnecessary removals without having enough information about the subject. Here are the links 1) http://www.nagpurtoday.in/prestigious-national-law-school-to-be-set-up-in-nagpur-gets-cabinet-approval/10091712 2) https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/nagpur/Bigger-campus-for-MNLU-near-Mihan/articleshow/51859913.cms 3) http://thehitavada.com/Encyc/2016/6/3/V-C-Dr-Vijender-Kumar-wants-to-take-MNLU-on-top.aspx

Read this articles and then understand that is a very important law institution set by the Government and also look at the word PRESTIGIOUS mentioned in the above articles. PLEASE MAKE SENSIBLE EDITS OTHERWISE USERS WILL BE DISILLUSIONED. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rohitzilla (talkcontribs) 13:45, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

Please sign your messages. I'm afraid I totally disagree with you. This is a simple case of peacock term used for academic boosterism. We are talking about a university established in 2016. I checked, and it is not even considered in the top 25 by any of the leading rankings in India: 1 2 3. It doesn't have history. It doesn't have influence. The sources you brought show this very clearly. This was written three years before the university was even established, how can it tell is is "prestigious"? This is a an interview with the good-intention-ed first VC of the university. I wish him the best of luck, but he says clearly "The University will be one of the most sought-after institutions for anyone keen to make a career in law", note the future tense. Even he realises he has much to do before his institute has any "prestige" of its own. Finally, this article deals with a campus for the future, yet to be established, institute. What MNLU Nagpur has, and this is what all these articles refer to, is that it is a National Law University, and so people have expectations. Any prestige it has must come from this. In 10-20 years, it might become a prestigious institute on its own. In the meantime, have look at the first sentence of Harvard University. These are the kinds of history and influence which are related with the term "prestigious". --Muhandes (talk) 16:43, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello Muhandes,

I've been trying to add a link to the department website of systems and control engineering in the webpage for Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. I'm graduate from the department, and I've been trying to do this for the past few years. What seems to be the problem? Edits

I noticed you reverted an edit of null section headers in SCMS Cochin School of Business. Are you aware that the same editor has made similar edits (sometimes adding a header that already exists) in multiple articles. I think they should all be reverted. Since you seemed to ask for a discussion, just coordinating before reverting the others. MB 21:16, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

@MB: Yes, I am aware of it. Yes, I totally agree they should all be reverted, empty sections are useless and decrease the quality of the article, not increase it, definitely when the section already exists (when they are plain stupid). I asked for discussion since this is quite a number of reverts and I thought the editor deserves to voice his opinion before they are all reverted. I also asked someone if there is a policy I can quote. You have my blessings. --Muhandes (talk) 22:02, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
I'll wait until you here from them. Will you leave mention here. Are you planning to revert them all yourself or would you like me to do some? I can find plenty of other things to do also! MB 22:26, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
I don't mind either way, you can go ahead and revert them all if you feel they are repugnant enough. I might forget about it. --Muhandes (talk) 22:34, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
I went through the user's contributions and reverted all such empty sections they added on or after 10/23. I have no idea how many older edits there are but I am done for now. MB 04:44, 14 November 2017 (UTC)

About IIT Kanpur

Do you think a national newspaper can publish a wrong news for no reason? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.3.77.209 (talk) 09:56, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

I don't know, I don't read the language. You need to cite a source. Readers (and editors) don't look at edit summaries for sources, they look at the article. Since I can't use the foreign language article you provided, I have to revert the edit. --Muhandes (talk) 15:47, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

I have provided the source and I am a student of IIT Kanpur so don't remove that change. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.3.77.209 (talk) 09:57, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

In that case it can't be used as a source, right? The purpose of the source is to verify the fact, and if it can't be reached, the fact cannot be verified. --Muhandes (talk) 16:18, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi there! I was just wondering where in the university template documentation it says a name logo is not allowed because I haven't heard that before. Thanks. Malayy (talk) 05:56, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

See {{Infobox university}}. The purpose of the logo field is "For a (closely-)related athletics/sports logo, corporate emblem or similar graphic." Listing the name again, though it may be in a fancy font, does not seem to me to be the purpose of the field. It is also very non-standard, as I am not aware of a single other university article in India with a repeat of the name again under the logo field (be it in a fancy font or not). --Muhandes (talk) 19:14, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
Most of the uni pages I have seen have the wordmark or the wordmark and the seal/coat of arms aside it. That wordmark is the official one of MU but I see what you mean. Maybe this one would work? Malayy (talk) 23:37, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
I was talking about universities in India, an area which is supposedly under (the much less active than in the past) WP:INEI. Generally (my guess would be 98% or more) these 800ish articles do not have wordmarks, making this very non-standard (and maybe unique). Personally, I don't see how a wordmark which uses the same iconography and some text adds to the article. I think the purpose of the logo field is to add additional iconography and not text. Knowing the other articles under WP:INEI, it opens up the gate for a multitude of WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS which will need to be handled in the future. Having said that, I am trying to care less, so if you insist on adding it, I would suggest at least a quick discussion at WT:INEI about guidelines for adding wordmarks in the logo field. If such guidelines already exist for general university articles, I would be happy to adopt them. That way we can set a general WP:CONSENSUS to follow in the future. --Muhandes (talk) 10:37, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
Oh, I see what you mean. I agree, it doesn't really add to the page. Indian universities have their own unique system and should be treated as such. Seeing as most are affiliated to a larger university, I feel like a picture of the affiliated university/college would better (e.g. King's College, Cambridge). Thanks for the detailed response! Malayy (talk) 19:07, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
