Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Tiptoety talk 05:57, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pakistan

[edit]

Asalamualikum,

I am trying to promote the pakistan's article to Ga class, for which i had worked on the article last weekend to trim it down to proper size and to make it more comprehensive. Unfortunately, a user in his ignorance reverted my edits, considering them to be a vandalism. Any ways i have reverted the article back to my GA nominee's version, and i obviously need support from my fellow country men for this, (indian article is FA class and our's is just a B class). Please help in keeping the article clean, not adding extra images to it, and adding material with reliable sources and in standard reference template. In my reversion, some of your contributions might also have been gone, if they fits to GA Class style guide, feel free to add them back, the bottom line to promote any article to GA class is simple following the standard wikipedia policies and guidelines for Good article. Each section should have a brief comprehensive info on the topic with a link to main article. You can also see FA and GA articles of the other countries. See India, Australia, Canada for instance.

looking for your cooperation.

Copying content onto Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi. Rescue 1122 Pakistan came due for administrative closure today, and I found on investigation that three of its five sentences had been copied from [1]. You can only copy content like that from other pages if you can verify that they are free for our use. In this case, they are demonstrably not free, as the website bears a clear reservation of copyright. Even if they are free, you must to avoid plagiarism acknowledge that you have copied content verbatim: see Wikipedia:Plagiarism. If you can't prove that the external source is free, you may only use brief excerpts of the content if those excerpts are clearly marked as quotations and if they are used for good reasons (see Wikipedia:Non-free content. Otherwise, you must put all information entirely into your own words. See Wikipedia:Copyrights.

If you have questions about this, please feel free to drop by my talk page. This content was not extensive, but it's important to recognize the copyright requirements of Wikipedia to remain compliant with the site's Terms of Use. Thank you. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:40, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from VWBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Journalism in Jhelum, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.apnajhelum.com/apna/info/journalism.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) VWBot (talk) 13:20, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Journalism in Jhelum requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Re: Pakistani Armed Forces

[edit]

As I already pointed out, your sources are unreliable or outdated. According to the 2010 annual report of International Institute for Strategic Studies (and not a provincial newspaper or an amateur website!) the Pakistani Armed Forces have 617,000 active personnel and 304,000 paramilitary into reserve personnel.--Enok (talk) 15:26, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please, stop your vandalisms. --Enok (talk) 14:47, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
On Military Balance 2010 (page 369) you can read that the paramilitary force is composed mainly by the National Guard, which is a reserve corps. But you're right, it is incorrect to compare it to the regular forces of other countries, and in fact are included in the paramilitary column. The Pakistani Armed Forces has no regular reserve personnel, but only personnel on active duty (7th in the world) or paramilitary. The situation in Kosovo has nothing to do with this. Pakistan is not an autonomous area or a limited recognition state, and the annual report of IISS did not leave out anything about its armed forces.
Regarding your sources, frankly I'm bored: globalfire.com is an amateur website (updated to 2009), and Daily Times is a little-known newspaper (plus it says nothing about reserves). Wikipedia is not your personal site where can write any lie you like. Stop your vandalism. --Enok (talk) 03:49, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Continue the discussion here. Please also do not change the page while the discussion is ongoing. It would be wasted time for both.--Enok (talk) 04:07, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Talha, You just reverted my edits on an article called "List of most populous cities in Pakistan". I would like to request you to please get your facts straight before you go around deleting other people's hard work. If you research the matter properly you will find that the new list I have provided is absolutely correct (with changes relevant to the populations in Peshawar, Faisalabad and Islamabad). In the previous one, Mardan had accidentally been put up at number 9. Please make sure to research the matter properly and then let me know of any complaints you may have. Yours sincerely, Danyal Adam Khan. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Danyal Adam Khan (talkcontribs) 13:04, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jhelum

[edit]

Hi I am a complete illiterate when it comes to contrubiting to blogs etc. I GOOGLED Jhelum because just recently I obtained a DVD containing nearly 200 photos taken by my late father when he was serving as a British Army Officer in the 1st Bn 103 MAHRATTA LIGHT INFANTRY 1916 1919. Many of these photos are identified by written in titles and I observed that JHELUM appeared on many of them. I am most interested in making contact with someone who may be able to identify other photos which show prominant features or buildings. I live in Canada but have plenty of time to exchange e-mails with someone who may be interested in helping out on this. Content In Jhelum

[edit]

Hi

You reversed editing and further moved my contributions to a subsection with a differant heading of sport in Jhelum. I dont believe the subject is worthy of its own article. As I was allready editing the article only a few hours earlier a simple discussion and approach would have been preferable and improved the article a lot better.

I know you have been registered as a Wiki user for some years but the information and knowledge I have can also contribute significantly. You have been online extensively in the last few hours and I have subsequently attempted to discuss the matter but you dont seem to be replying to discussions on the subject.

Please provide your considered thoughts on the matter or I may have to just go ahead reversing your edits and dealing as I see fit.

Ch ifzaal mehdi (talk) 13:47, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have great respect for your thoughts and for the information and knowledge you have. As far as your concern about moving the contribution of yours on Sport in Jhelum, i think i have explained that move well on the talk page of Jhelum. Please read Wikipedia:Splitting for more details.
And as you think that we should minimize the reliance of the article on The Imperial Gazetteer of India just go ahead if you have more better reliable sources. --TalhaDiscuss © 18:19, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Hasnat Ahmad Khan.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Hasnat Ahmad Khan.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 13:49, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Tareekh-e-Jhelum Book Cover.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Tareekh-e-Jhelum Book Cover.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. The article Anjum Sultan Shahbaz has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article subject appears to fail WP's notability guidelines and it does not have any secondary source

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Thanks for uploading File:Govt. College GT Road Jhelum.jpg, which you've attributed to Considering (as indicated) http://www.tmajhelum.com/Pic-Gallery.html (© 2007 TMA Jhelum, Pakistan. All rights reserved.) = http://www.tmajhelum.com/larg-images/01.jpg (identical exif). I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included.

You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Gunnex (talk) 19:53, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:River Jhelum bridge panorama.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted content borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:05, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity

[edit]

Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. New deal for page patrollers

[edit]

Hi Talha,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
