orphan fixed

Hello Tivedshambo,

I added links to the Novacam Technologies, so that it is no longer an orphan page. Is it up to me to remove the orphan page notice? I'm relatively new to Wikipedia editing, so could you help me out here? Do I 'undo' that box or should someone else do that?

Thanks, Arelle1 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arelle1 (talkcontribs) 19:44, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You can remove it - there's no restriction about who can remove maintenance tags once the problem's been addressed. —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 19:57, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your message. I have edited the page again hopefully this time is ok. I am having some difficulty referencing the articles can you please help me?

Can you have another look at Herbert McLeod? I changed the first sentence with the alternative birth dates and birth places.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Stone (talkcontribs) 22:14, January 21, 2011

AWB error

Just wanted to let you know — in this edit, you changed a link from the specific Bloomington, Indiana to Bloomington, a disambiguation page. Nyttend (talk) 14:39, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's not the case - it changed [[Bloomington|Bloomington]], an unneccessary pipe, to [[Bloomington]]. The link to the disambiguation page was already there - see [1] (the link in the infobox). —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 16:41, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm...obviously my error. Sorry to have bothered you. Nyttend (talk) 05:58, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Regarding this template, maybe the default "contributions" evidence also should have the urlencode template? In other words, in the "Special:Contributions/{{PAGENAME}}" part of the code, before "{{PAGENAME}}", add "{{urlencode:", and add "}}" after "PAGENAME". Currently, if the account name starts with a wiki syntax symbol, the evidence parameter must be specified, otherwise the mess is still there. HeyMid (contribs) 21:40, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Could you put the revised code in a sandbox, then let me know and I'll copy it (or re-request with editprotected). Thanks. —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 21:44, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

More editnotices

Fancruft pops up on most of the Percy Jackson-related articles. If you don't mind, would you create the ones below with the same content as Template:Editnotices/Page/The Lost Hero?

Thanks!

(Note: the fancruft additions aren't as often on these pages, just enough to spark some "warning" notices.)

York Racecourse railway station

Hi. Someone added some b&w images of steam trains passing the racecourse station, or what was left of it, to York railway station. It would be nice if they could be moved to a short article on York Racecourse railway station, but first we need to know when the station opened and closed. I've done some googling (see Talk:York railway station) but only came up with a few vague reminiscences, and the few railway books that I possess (including one which has details of the dates of Yorkshire station closures - Haxby, Copmanthorpe, etc.) don't help. If all else fails, I could try the local history people at the central library, but I thought I'd try you first. All leads gratefully received. Best. --GuillaumeTell 22:38, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm - I can't say I've heard of a station there, and none of the rail maps I've looked at show it. It may have just been a horse dock, but I'll cross-post this to WT:UKRAIL to see if anyone else knows anything. —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 10:33, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The images I mentioned above

show the platforms and have a bit of detail about the station - passenger trains stopped there only on race days. --GuillaumeTell 12:11, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Featured Sound Main Page Proposal Voter Barnstar
I was truly humbled by the overwhelming community support for the recent proposal to place featured sounds on the main page. The proposal closed on Tuesday with 57 people in support and only 2 in opposition.

It should take a few weeks for everything to get coded and tested, and once that is done the community will be presented with a mock up to assess on aesthetic appeal.

Finally, I invite all of you to participate in the featured sounds process itself. Whether you're a performer, an uploader, or just come across a sound file you find top quality, and that meets the featured sound criteria, you can nominate it at Wikipedia:Featured sound candidates. Featured sounds is also looking for people to help assess candidates (also at Wikipedia:Featured sound candidates.)

Thanks again for such a strong showing of support, and I hope to see you at featured sounds in the future.

Inform editors of poll

As I have already mentioed on mjroots talk page - see User_talk:Mjroots#Renaming_proposals_-_UK_railways - it's normal to leave messages on the affected talk pages when discussion potential changes.Sf5xeplus (talk) 13:06, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is a poll, not a vote, merely trying to determine the general opinion, and not to change anything (yet). As the poll comes after a length discussion to which all interested parties have already contributed, I see little point in wasting my time or other peoples in telling them about something they can read for themselves. —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 14:19, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm neutral - I'm not going to decline it, but I'm still a little uneasy. Maybe a reminder that rollback is for vandalism should be sufficient. Feel free to grant it if you wish. —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 21:49, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why was Torycreek deleted?

Just curious as to why the log says user "Torycreek" was deleted.Torycreek (talk) 17:47, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry - your user talk page (and those of a number of other users) were attacked by a vandal yesterday adding false {{unblock}} requests. Rather than having to edit each one to remove the request, I deleted all the new pages (such as yours) en mass. Deleting your talk page like this does not delete the user, and therefore you are unaffected by this. —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 18:32, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help! A blocked user vandalized my userpage, and I cant figure out how to use the admin noticeboard. User is User talk:Mariolosers and is supposedly blocked but is still editing. illogicalpie 00:19, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - looking at that user's contributions and block log, it seems that the vandalism occurred up until 23:20 UTC yesterday, which was the time that the block was imposed. I don't think there's any problem here, but for future reference, the admin's noticeboard is WP:AN, and for immediate problems (i.e. stuff that needs to be acted on urgently), WP:ANI. —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 06:27, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think I addressed the orphan issue with the page but I'm not sure if I did it correctly and don't want to remove the Orphan box until I know for sure. I basically went to three related articles and added links to the page, two of the pages referred to the rule so I re-worded and provided the link. Does that qualify? Thanks! WikiProject UK Railways in the Signpost

WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject UK Railways for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Other editors will also have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Response to your moderation

I posted a response to your moderation of my amendment to the Aberystwyth article on my Talk page I'm new to Wikipedia so I'm not sure if you would have seen it or not, so I thought I ought to post it here again.

I don't agree with you reverting my change. I have stated my case in detail on my Talk page and I look forward to your response. Frank poulankh (talk) 10:02, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looking again at the edit I made, I see that my edit summary was rather bitey and probably inaccurate, for which I apologise. (I don't remember the circumstances in which I made the edit, so can't give you an excuse.) What I should have should have made clearer in my summary, and welcome note to you, is that external links should not generally be used within the body of an article (other than for citations) - see Wikipedia:External links for further details. Your edit added the external link, whereas the other links in the section are internal links to existing Wikipedia articles. If The Lowland Hundred meets the criteria for notability for bands, then feel free to create an article on them, and you can then include it in Aberystwyth as an internal link. Apologies once again, and happy editing! —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 10:49, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification. I will do as you suggest. I think the Mojo article I posted qualifies the band for an article under #1 on the criteria for notability. Frank poulankh (talk) 14:57, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Page Name Change

Tivedshambo,

Thank you for your comments. I am having an editing problem with wikipedia. I created the page "Christopher Schmidt" and other users have made changes to it so it can not be deleted. I need to simply change the main heading of the page from "Christopher Schmidt" to a new name of "Riley Schmidt" How do I do this? Thank you so much.

Riley Schmidt —Preceding unsigned comment added by Schmidtworldwide (talkcontribs) 14:54, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As the page Riley Schmidt already existed as a redirect, this was a page move that could only be done by administrators. I've now done this, and left Christopher Schmidt as a redirect. Could I ask you please to read the pages WP:COI and WP:SOCK - if you are Riley Schmidt, then you obviously have a strong conflict of interest, and editing this page is strongly discouraged. Also, you seem to be editing from two different accounts, which is not allowed if you use them misleadingly. —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 15:32, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
He has already explained this on User talk:Logan as an accident. I think we can assume good faith here, as there is no sock puppetry involved (there has been no pretense that the two accounts are owned by separate people). As there has been no substantive contributions to this page other than by Riley Schmidt himself, I think we can safely delete this as a G7. Catfish Jim & the soapdish 14:26, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There has been at least one other significant edit by another person, see [2]. Also, I don't think Schmidt wanted the page deleted entirely - I think he wanted the page with the old name deleted, possibly to recreate at the new name (though I'm speculating here). I agree that there was no intention to use the accounts misleadingly, but as some admins can be a bit over-zealous at times, I though a friendly warning was valid.

Thanks for this  :) Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 21:00, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

And as I just saw the discussion above my note... Yikes. He's no relation of mine, I have never heard of him, and in looking at his career (the author's probable COI aside), his article looks to be a candiate for deletion as either non-notable or as an unsourced BLP. Zero-ground

Hi Tivedshambo. Regarding the declined speedy at Zero-ground, I believe the author is actually promoting products or services by the company of the same name: Zero-ground. Best, Mephtalk 06:07, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Whilst the article may be only about one product (which to my inexpert eyes appears to be notable as it is mentioned by multiple independent sources), I don't consider it is blatant advertising. At the revision when I declined the speedy, there was not even a link to the zero-ground.com website - a spammer would have plugged the link first and built an article around it. —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 11:03, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OMG!!!~this wikipedia, really is cool and tricky... I just spent 30 minutes (and the last of my intelectual...writing u a defense letter of the page u saved from speedy deletion... Long story really short now, I am a EE, I have made one wiki page before, and decided to turn my academic paper on our solution to "High frequency ground currents" HFGC into a wikipedia page... It was not hard 2 paraphrase the solution (Using massive quotations form established sources)...

The problem with this is that there is no wikipedia page on HFGC's, which would have a place for all of the alternatives solutions, we proposed in our problem... Being new to wikipedia, I thought (stupidly) "oh ill just make a page that collects OUR ACADEMIC the sources and explains there proprietary technology...(I spent quite some time trying 2 see if it was notable, un-biased... etc. clearly i thought it was acceptable) This page seems to be advertising b/c of the lack of alternative solutions, I believe I mentioned 5 of them in the page, Which not any of them had a page of their own either zero-ground background... This page, I believe when it is investigated by an expert in EE, will be noteworthy and adequate As a solution to the problem of HFGC's... Sorry about the elipses, i dont have any energy left, its sleep time for me... I also disclosed any bias i may have, from when I was a kid, and it was me that made the article (so obviousely that makes me bias, a little)... A tag has been placed on File:Woodhead electric railway.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Corris No.5

Visited the Talyllyn in 1983 and in 1990. Details can be found in John Bate's "Chronicles of Pendre Sidings". RGCorris (talk) 11:45, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The User Benjamin9832 asked for his page to be blanked to cover up the fact that he has been warned not to engage in edit-warring

User:Benjamin9832 recently removed a comment I placed that warned him not to engage in provocative edit-warring behaviour and then asked you for permission to blank his page to remove all evidence of such a warning and previous evidence of edit warring. He did not argue with me, but he did create a confrontational atmosphere on the Fascism article, taunting a user he is antagonistic to, User:Bryonmorrigan, to revert an edit and thereby break a 3 revert rule and be potentially banned from Wikipedia. This is the confrontational taunting statement from Benjamin9832: "Here is a real reference for you :-) Go ahead, revert and get reported Both Benjamin9832". This user and Bryonmorrigon have engaged in confrontational, ad hominem behaviour towards each other and other users - both should receive a warning about their edit-warring.--R-41 (talk) 02:45, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:User pages#Removal of comments, notices, and warnings. It is quite acceptable to blank your user talk page, subject to certain conditions that don't apply here. The warnings are still in the page history (which is why such pages aren't generally deleted). An optimist on the run! 06:44, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock?

You accepted my unblock request. But I have to say that leaving the genre blank in a new infobox as one of the unblock conditions that you gave me isn't fair, because if I did do it anyway, I wouldn't change the genre that I inserted. My second thing that I wanted to say is that I blanked my sandbox page. AND IT HAD GENRES IN IT. But the reason why I blanked it wasn't because I wanted to change the genre. It was because I DIDN'T WANT THE PAGE ANYMORE. So does that second thing count as not following conditions that you gave me? Ian Streeter (talk) 20:41, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Common sense applies here - no-one's going to block you for clearing out your own sandbox. But overall, you're safest by ignoring genres altogether. Yes, you may feel they're wrong, and there are things I've disputed in the past and didn't get the "right" answer, but we just have to accept that Wikipedia isn't perfect. At the end of the day, it's not worth arguing about, let alone getting blocked for. Try finding a completely different subject that interests you to edit. An optimist on the run! 21:27, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But if I insert a new genre for a new infobox, I WILL NOT CHANGE IT. It's not really about changing genres. It's about adding a new genre and then not changing it. Ian Streeter (talk) 21:35, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I deliberately set tough limits in order to protect you from any future criticism or arguments, e.g. about whether you chose the right genre for a new article/infobox or not. Trust me - one line in a box is not worth losing sleep over. An optimist on the run! 21:45, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, if you want your sandbox deleting (instead of just blanking), let me know, or you can tag it with {{db-user}}. An optimist on the run! 21:53, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't it okay if I only insert genres for a new infobox and nothing else? Because even I don't think it's fair that I don't get to do it. Ian Streeter (talk) 00:04, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As I stated above, you should avoid the topic altogether. This is a condition of your unblocking, which you accepted at the time. An optimist on the run! 12:50, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Can't I just DO IT? Because SERIOUSLY. I WOULDN'T CHANGE THE GENRE AFTER I INSERTED IT. Ian Streeter (talk) 21:09, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No. You are getting tedious - please consider this conversation at an end. Further comments will be removed. An optimist on the run! 21:13, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Corris loco photo query

The photo is probably Corris loco No.1, as it has the higher and flatter cab carried by that loco. The scene is at the original Machynlleth Station. The date is wrong; it is probably in the 1890s, as the two carriages shown did not exist in that form before 1890 and the loco driver, Richard Pattison, joined the staff in 1886. RGCorris (talk) 12:43, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info - I've put a request up to get it renamed to remove the year. An optimist on the run! 23:23, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mehran's Reuest for rollback

Over here Salvio is considering Mehran for rollback but wants community input as well as your since you were the one who denied the request so I though I'd inform you. --Kangaroopowah 18:14, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request of Block

There is an IP Adress on wikipedia that continuously is blanking pages and vandalizing (especially airport pages). I really need you to block him because he won't stop. The IP address is... 72.230.135.24 (talk). Thanks so much! Cali4529 (talk) 00:34, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

They haven't had sufficient warnings to justify a block at the moment, but I'll keep an eye on them. In future, you'll get a far quicker response by reporting vandalism at WP:AIV. — An optimist on the run! 05:41, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification

Hi. In Chicken and chips, you recently added a link to the disambiguation page Pepper (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. For more information, see the FAQ or drop a line at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 10:41, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My fault - I meant to check for dabs, but got distracted. Now fixed. — An optimist on the run! 10:49, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The image has been declared to be a copyvio, and therefore should not be reuploaded. An optimist on the run! 10:43, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declared in error. Am trying to get the image re-instated - you deleted a perfectly fine CC licensed image -- licensed by its author (not myself) no less, who now has to deal with needless permissions email hassle w wikipedia because of your utter inability to discern a violation from a non-violation. Very irritating. User:Underbelly02 —Preceding undated comment added 21:02, 21 December 2011 (UTC).[reply]

As I have stated before, I was not involved with the deletion debate. Please stop taking it out on me. This conversation may be considered terminated.  An optimist on the run! 21:40, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Name change

I saw a comment of yours at Talk:Main Page, clicked to your user page, and then couldn't figure out why I didn't recognize the name of admin. I hadn't realized you'd been renamed (in May, no less). I like the new name quite a bit. :-) --MZMcBride (talk) 18:00, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - despite having used it for several years, I was never that keen on Tivedshambo. The new name was a toss-up between Optimist on the run and Voice of Clam An optimist on the run! 08:13, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Holgate Windmill

Hope you get some decent weather for a photo. Any up-to-date photo showing the mill with all five sails on should go in the infobox. Have a good xmas! Mjroots (talk) 19:13, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

do you have the original post of Triple Six Gun Squad, it was basically a satire and i didnt think it would be taken off so quickly i wanted to show my friend — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hp4lyfe (talkcontribs) 19:45, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is a serious encyclopaedia, not a place where you can show off satire to your friends. I suggest you try a social networking site for that.  An optimist on the run! 21:45, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
