African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust

At African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust you added a cleanup tag for the table formatting. I added the basic style to it. Can you be more descriptive about what it needs if that did not fix the problem? RJFJR (talk) 03:35, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Can you help me out with this draft?

Please let me know

Draft:Mike Devoe Syent713 (talk) 02:53, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

@Syent713: I do not often participate in the Articles for Creation process as a reviewer, but do agree with the editors who have already commented upon it. I suggest finding more sources for the draft, as well as taking a look at WP:NSINGER for specifics on how the English Wikipedia views notability within the music industry. If there is any specific thing you believe I could help with, feel free to to ask. Vycl1994 (talk) 14:46, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

I just received the deletion about my homepage,

Dear Administrator,

I'm going to improving my page, but I'm confused with your comments:

'Almost all references are written by the subject; number 3 is an article related to his interests. Refs 20 and 21 are faculty lists. None of the references discusses the subject.'

I understand for references 20 and 21, I could remove them. And what do you mean by 'almost all references are written by the subject'? Does it mean I need to add some others references? And for 'number 3 is an article related to his interests', what should I do to modify this reference? should I just delete it?

Thanks a lot for your help!

@Zzjhaas: I am not an administrator, but a volunteer editor with a named account on the English Wikipedia. The editor who attempted to remove the article Zygmunt Haas from English Wikipedia's mainspace was not me, but an editor known only by their IP address. I do believe proposed deletion was incorrect because the article about Haas fulfills English Wikpedia's notability guidelines regarding academics. Academia and Wikipedia both draw distinctions between primary, secondary and tertiary sources, to avoid what Wikipedia describes as original research. The IP editor did want reliable sources independent of the subject, as per English Wikipedia's content guidelines. The article about Haas has since been improved by other editors after the deletion tag was removed. Primary sources remain cited within the article about Haas to discuss topics he has researched, but if other scholars have discussed Haas's influence or reviewed his work, I would suggest citing them, too, as secondary sources. Legislative Yuan links

Hello. The Legislative Yuan website isn't dead, but I can't find a way to create a permanent link to the pages in question. For example, the page on Xiang Runkin is accessible via here if you use the search function, but it appears the url for the page on her stops working after a day or two.

Also, I struggled to find the Wade–Giles names for several of the members elected in 1948 and ended up using the pinyin, so if there are any others you can correct, that would be great. Cheers, Number 57 22:09, 15 July 2021 (UTC)

Gregorius (of San Lorenzo) moved to different name

What is your justification for moving the page "Gregorius (of San Lorenzo)" to "Gregorio Albergati"? You cite no reason at all. The literature on this cardinal never uses the name you placed it under. The authorities I cited do not use the name "Albergati". IF, perchance, you were using Salvador Miranda's notes on "Gregorio Albergati", you should know that his material is derived from obsolete sources, and is horribly incomplete. Most attributions of surnames in the first half of the 12th century are fictitious.

I would revert the pages myself, but that is not one of my skills. May I ask you to do so immediately?

I note, not at all by the way, that you made your change only 1 1/2 hours after the page was created, and without discussing the proposwd change on the TALK page.

Thank you for your attention, and well-meaning effort to improve a page I am still working on.

--Vicedomino (talk) 02:07, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Hello, Vicedomino, the source cited at Cardinals created by Callixtus II (and its Italian Wikipedia equivalent) is in fact Miranda. The name Gregorio Albergati also appears on the English Wikipedia at 1124 papal election, which, incidentally, also cites Miranda, as well as other sources. The Italian Wikipedia also (red)links to Gregorio Albergati several times, and cities Miranda at it:Elezione papale del 1118. That was the only source I was able to read, because I am not fluent in Italian, nor do I have access to the offline citations listed at it:Elezione papale del 1124, it:Albergati (famiglia). The records of Catholic-Hierarchy do not seem to go back to the 1000s, but GCatholic does list Gregorio Albergati on its own page of Cardinals created by Callixtus II. I believe that GCatholic.org is regarded as an acceptable source by the English Wikipedia. I don't edit often on the topic, but I see that many articles about Catholic clergy cite GCatholic.org. Because Gregorio Albergati had existed as a redlink on the English Wikipedia, I presumed it to be the WP:COMMONNAME and moved the article accordingly. If you disagree with the move based on the quality of the sources, see WP:RSN, probably. Vycl1994 (talk) 06:16, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Mary Perry Stone categories

Hi. Thank you for adding categories to the page Mary Perry Stone. This is my first page, and I don't understand how categories work. How do I get my page to appear in the lists on the category pages? They don't seem editable. Is it an automated process? Thanks. SlowForm (talk) 22:40, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Well done, SlowForm, you've written a great first article. There are several pages that explain how categories work, including Help:Category, Wikipedia:Categorization, and Wikipedia:FAQ/Categorization. I use something called HotCat to add categories to articles. The informational pages I've linked will do a more thorough job of explaining how to categorize articles than I can. Happy editing! Robert A. Doughty

A few of your recent edits linking Robert A. Doughty turned up on my watchlist today. I notice you've been on quite a streak today, linking Doughty's name and turning it red in references in these 171 edits made between 22:46 yesterday and 7:07 today? Can you explain how adding a red linked author name inside a reference on these articles is an improvement? We generally don't link authors who are not notable enough to have an article about them. I am considering undoing these edits, but I won't if there's some positive impact on these articles that I'm not seeing. I'm assuming you have no conflict of interest and no connection to Doughty. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 07:48, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

I have no relationship of any kind with Doughty. If you'd like to see the article, @Mathglot:, I've started it. As for how I came across the topic: I noticed that Pyrrhic Victory and some other books by Doughty were cited in several English Wikipedia articles, so I decided to see what I could find on him. I grant that the Paul Birdsall Prize is regarded as an early career award, so it does not fulfill WP:NPROF#C2. Doughty held the Harold Keith Johnson Chair for one academic year, it is a visiting (non-tenure) role, and perhaps the U.S. Army Military History Institute is not considered a major academic institution, as WP:NPROF#C5 requires, but I believe that the several book reviews published in the The Journal of Military History help Doughty's case via WP:NAUTHOR. I used those reviews as sources to start the article. Vycl1994 (talk) 09:11, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
I understand. I'll hold off and won't remove your links, although it might have saved you a lot of trouble to write the article first; but that's water under the brodge at this point. Here's a find-sources link set which I hope helps:
Find biographical sources: Britannica · British Library · EoWB · books · Guardian · Infoplease · JSTOR · Library of Congress · MUSE · NYT · TWL
In searching around, I found the Kiesling article which pops up everywhere, I see you found that one already. Other than that and some reviews, I don't see much; it might be borderline as far as notability is concerned, but doesn't hurt to try. Good luck with the article! Mathglot (talk) 09:43, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
I think that it won't do any harm to have an article on Doughty and I'm glad that there's already a stub to support the links. I find him quite helpful on France in the Great War, interewar and 1939–1940, an underwritten topic in English language history. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 10:46, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

I've tagged the article for WP:Notability, based on what seems to me to be a failure to meet WP:NACADEMIC. There are eight criteria, the article only needs to fulfill any one of the eight. Can you please add some content to the article, duly cited, and demonstrating support for one of the eight points? Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 06:32, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

@Mathglot: talk page stalker here. I don't immediately see a pass of WP:NPROF here, but the reviews currently in the article look sufficient for a weakish pass of WP:NAUTHOR (multiple works with multiple reviews). The Pyrrhic Victory book in particular appears to also have a lot of reviews that aren't in the article [1][2][3][4][5]. I also found these [6][7]. As there's also an in-depth profile of the subject, this looks like a solid notability pass. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 12:53, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for finding several more book reviews; they've been added to the article. Vycl1994 (talk) 13:20, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
@Russ Woodroofe:, good job, that may just make the difference; thanks for finding those. Mathglot (talk) 01:50, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

Article on Prof. Krauth

Hallo @Vycl1994: It seems that you have filed my article on Prof. Krauth (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karlheinz_Krauth) under: "Karlheinz Krauth (1936-2020), German political scientist and journal editor". As far as I know, however, Prof. Krauth was never politically active. Therefore, I would prefer the attributes "German civil engineer, scientist and journal editor". I kindly ask you to change the passage to this effect. Many thanks for your help and kind regards! Hager Irene (talk) 13:21, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

Good day, Hager Irene. I did not recall working on the article Karlheinz Krauth, and the only edit I see that I have made to that article before you contacted me is this one. After reading your message above, I glanced at the article; it seems properly categorized, described, and well sourced. I did make one edit afterwards, the reasoning for which I have provided in an edit summary. Happy editing! Vycl1994 (talk) 21:10, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

Information icon Hello. In a recent edit, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you.

Males

Thank you for your addition of categories in this edit. However, you removed Category:Scottish sculptors. You retained Category:Scottish male sculptors, and I wonder whether the retention was your reason for the removal -- that addition to the latter (male) category seemed to render addition to the former (gender-nonspecific) category redundant. If so, NB the "male" one is a "non-diffusing subcategory": for these, it's OK for a person to be categorized both as a whatever and as a "male" whatever. OTOH if there was/is some other reason for the removal, I'd like to know what it was: I might be overlooking something. -- Hoary (talk) 08:40, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks, @Hoary:. I am aware of non-diffusing categories. It just seems that HotCat seems to replace, remove, or not register the addition of categories occasionally. I did not catch the error at the time, but now my mistake has been fixed! Vycl1994 (talk) 08:52, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Category question

Hey, as I notice your improvements of the cats on AfC accepts I wonder if you could advise what is the best way to categories for someone born 1829 or 1830? This is in relation to Alexander E. Barber. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 17:34, 11 September 2022 (UTC)

I believe the convention is to categorize uncertain births by decade, and then add Category:Year of birth uncertain, which means that the article Alexander E. Barber now correctly has three birth-year related categories. Vycl1994 (talk) 17:44, 11 September 2022 (UTC)

Jinyu Liu

Hi Vcl1994. I hope this finds you well! If I recall right, you might understand Chinese, and you've had some interest in academic biographies. Perhaps you could take a look at the Jinyu Liu article? There have been a lot of recent IP edits there from someone who appears to be closely associated with the subject. I think they're well-intentioned, but not necessarily in line with MOS and policy. I'm not really able to search for better sources in Chinese, nor for example to translate with any confidence the title of her new book. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 09:25, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
