downloading Wikipedia

[edit]

Hey folks. I've just read that Wikipedia can be downloaded (the whole thing? really??) but I'm having no luck in finding out how. Rather than continue to flounder about in the trillions of WP help files, I thought it would be easier to bother you good people instead. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance. Yesthatbruce (talk) 06:01, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Yesthatbruce, have you looked at WP:DOWNLOAD? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:10, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, should've thought of that. Thanks so much for the quick response! Yesthatbruce (talk) 06:22, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone with access to Flickr...

[edit]

Crossposting this from Commons for exposure: ...who can send a relicencing request to this user for these three groups? There are some files there that could be useful for en:Salar de Pedernales, but the request needs someone who is actually established. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 07:06, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use about picture films

[edit]

Pleae any can give me the hyperlink to access at the resource of Fair Use.

GEORGEB1989 (talk) 12:40, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has its own policies on the use of images under the guise of fair use. It is more restrictive than many other places, so be aware that Wikipedia's policy is what it is, and should be followed even if other organizations have different fair use policies. WP:NFCC is the correct shortcut to the policy. --Jayron32 13:02, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New England Patriots

[edit]

You failed to mention in your history of the Patriots, that they were called the Bay State Patriots for a short period of time. This occurred in between being named the Boston Patriots and being renamed the New England Patriots! Mike Wilson Lynn Mass. 108.26.245.153 (talk) 17:43, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm afraid you're mistaken, you need to read the whole article. History of the New England Patriots, in the section titled "1970-1973: Post AFL-NFL merger", there is a discussion of the adoption, and quick rejection, of the name Bay State Patriots. --Jayron32 17:46, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's also mentioned in bold in New England Patriots#Brief summary. Windows browsers can usually search a page for a string with Ctrl+f PrimeHunter (talk) 18:41, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Subjects 41.114.163.41 (talk) 19:11, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not clear on what you are asking, are you asking about editing a Wikipedia article? This is not a general help desk for career assistance. 331dot (talk) 19:55, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

additional survivor ? Edward Francis Rorke? He was a sargeant in the army core of engineers #82.

[edit]

I hope Edward Francis Rorke can be added to the list of survivors of the Bataan Death March. Ed was a good friend of my father who survived as a POW in Tokyo at the Palace and later moved to the Omori camp the last few weeks of the war. Ed was according to the National Archives held at the Osaka Main Camp Chikko Osaka 34-135. Ed has no remaining family, his brother Hayden Rorke of "I Dream of Jeannie" had no children. We were Ed's family in Casper, WY for many years. Ed and my father would talk about their war experiences which we were not allowed to hear. Ed told us he had many operations to rebuild his face after the brutal beatings because we did not think he looked like his brother, we could see the resemblance after the explanation. 108.49.126.251 (talk) 19:55, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Each of the survivors currently listed all already have a Wikipedia article about them, due to being independently notable. Listing every single survivor is not really feasible. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:12, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The policy is explained at WP:LISTPEOPLE. Shantavira|feed me 08:37, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

asking for someone else to look at a ref

[edit]

I could swear I recall posting to a dedicated page where you could ask others to look at stuff that is behind paywalls, but now I can't find it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Did I imagine the whole thing? Beeblebrox (talk) 20:23, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request? Floquenbeam (talk) 20:29, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
that's not exactly what you're describing, but it's kind of close. Also, forgot to ping you, User:Beeblebrox. --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:30, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think that is probably what I was thinking of. Thanks! Beeblebrox (talk) 20:31, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

publish?

[edit]

How do you move an article from the sandbox to being published? must it be approved? does it take some time? I just did my first article and am wondering when it will appear. Hoeks311 (talk) 20:35, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I assume this is in reference to Draft:Convoy UGL.4. Another user has moved it to draft space and added a template that should answer most of your questions, and has a button for submitting the article for review. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:04, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Make redirect page an article

[edit]

Long ago when I first joined Wikipida I made a page called the Luxembourg Rebellions wich was supposed to be a artical talking about the riots and rebellions, this never happened because, I don’t know why but I ended up redirecting it for a new article about the rebellion. Can I go back make the article? LuxembourgLover (talk) 21:07, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you can, provided you can show that the subject meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability.
There are two ways to go about this. If you are confident that you can at the first attempt make an article which will be minimally acceptable, you can do it by editing the redirect page into an article.
Generally I would suggest instead, that you create a draft, in Draft:Luxembourg rebellions. You can work on this at your leisure and it is unlikely anybody will interfere with it (unless it is a copyright violation or an attack page, or you leave it untouched for six months). When you think it is ready, you have another choice: you can either add {{subst:submit}} to the top, asking for it to be reviewed (which might take months, but will give you feedback), or you can submit a technical move request to ask for somebody to move it to mainspace (most of us do not have permissions to move a draft over a redirect). False Positive Report Deleted by Anonymous IP

[edit]

Hi everyone, I made an edit to an article which was disallowed by one of the edit filters, and I appealed it as a false positive.

Unexpectedly, instead of receiving a comment saying that my appeal was denied, it appears to have been deleted from the False Positives page by an anonymous user!

Here is the diff of when my report was deleted:Special:MobileDiff/1172992769

Could someone please tell me what has happened in this case? Should I resubmit my appeal?

Thanks! Sgreat96 (talk) 23:59, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
