Commonwealth Winter Games

Can someone add a Pakistani viewpoint on this? Commonwealth Winter Games

The article's just speculation, the state government is apparently trying to get it as a venue, till either the Pakistani Government or press comment on this (if they comment) then there is no viewpoint to add. Pahari Sahib 08:20, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

WOuld someone like to check out Najeeb Ahmed (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) and see if we can allow him to be described as "Brave" ? Removing irrelevant Tags from Shakeel Siddiqui article

The article on Shakil Siddique (comedian) has been tagged for Peacock Terms, lack of neutrality, notability, and copy editing since October 2008. It was in a bad shape when I first read it but I have been making improvements and I think these tags are no longer applicable. How can these tags be removed? Status of 'Port Qasim' article

I have recently done restructuring of Port Qasim. Details have been posted in the discussion page. I want to propose to review the subject article for 'B' or 'C' class. Currently it is marked as "Start Class Article" in the WikiProject_Pakistan.

Secondly I think the article should be rated as of Mid importance in WikiProject_Pakistan as:

  1. It is currently Pakistan's second largest port, handling some 35% of country's trade through sea.
  2. The shifting of oil terminals from Karachi port and major expansion projects in PQ will make the role of PQ much more vital in near future.

Currently it is of ??? importance.

Cheerz,

Jammu and Kashmir article should have Pakistani POV section also

I have ecently noticed how Indian POV pushers are trying to vandalise Azad Kashmir article. Now we also have a claim to the Indian Occupied Kashmir, and I think out editors should start putting up Pakistani POV in Jammu and Kashmir article as well. Since at the moment to a neutral viewer, visiting both J &K and azad kashmir articles, it would seem that only Azad Kashmir is disputed and while J &K is a part of India —Preceding unsigned comment added by HussainAbbas (talkcontribs) 22:31, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

The article Mohsin Naqvi has been prodded (I disputed the prod) and I think it may be nominated for deletion soon. Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons

The WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 35,715 as of May 1. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.

Your Project's list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Pakistan/Unreferenced BLPs. Currently you have approximately 161 articles to be referenced. Other project lists can be found at User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects/Templates and User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects.

Your assistance in reviewing and referencing these articles is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to ask either at WT:URBLP or at my talk page. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 17:13, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

National Flag of Islamic Republic of Pakistan

Can anyone help me obtain http://www.psqca.com.pk/ecatalog/disprec.asp?disprec=1700-1985 so we can have the most accurate drawing of the Pakistani flag as possible? User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 08:09, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Can some knowledgeable editors look at this article, which currently has many unsourced defamatory claims ? Examples (from the lead alone!):

  • "end of his final term in a dramatic change after intense standoff which included an attack masterminded by his brother on the supreme court."
  • "He claims he is the only Pakistani politician that does not belongs to any family feudals yet he claims he was born with a silver spoon and lives like a king."
  • "He claims his family was the richest in country to hide his corruption."
  • "He actually belongs to a hard working class family of Punjab but claims otherwise."

Unfortunately I could not even find a problem-free version that I could revert to. Most of the edits over the past month seem to be by IPs and new accounts. I'll semi-protect the article for a month to provide experienced neutral editors some room to get it into shape and at a minimum, compliance with WP:BLP. Regards. Abecedare (talk) 22:03, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

The article contains several images of banknotes and coins. Problem is that they are falsely licensed (as Public domain) and those correctly licensed ({{Non-free currency}}) need fair use rationales. No article on Sipah-e-Mohammed Pakistan Shi'a militant group?

Is there any reason there's no article on the Sipah-e-Mohammed Pakistan Shi'a militant group? In my current track of writing articles on milita/self-defense/etc. units of religious minority groups, I've tracked down info on two combatant groups of the Ahmadiyya sect: one combat group that fought against India in Kashmir, and one self-defense militia during partition. Pakistan articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Pakistan articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

`Love stories of Pakistan

Dear Sirs/Madams

I have gone through most of the Love stories on the Wikipedia and you have very rightly indicated that all of them needs to be re-written. Most of them are in complete and very key elements are missing. Well it may not be easy to understand the significance of these stories for an outsider, considering this region gives out a very conservative image and women folks are still highly oppressed my the mail dominated society. But these stories are considered "Spirtitual"and "Divine"and each an every person living in even the remotest nook and cornor of the country has heard them and there situations and some of the language is even used in the day to day dialogue. Perhaps just like Romeo Julliat by Shekspear being quoted by the litrary society of England. These stories not only live in the books and folklore of the region but these dwell in the hearts of people and I witnessed myself many a times even the most rigid person wetting his or her eyes upon listening to them. Then there is another problem of accuracy of the ocntent, as many people have tried to write and re-write these epic tales. To connect these with the historical time line would be another challange. In short I feel this section needs a lot of attention from the editors of this website and some experts needs to inducted for autenticity, other wise these would stay as confusing and meaning less as they are. I would really like to contruibute what ever I can but to be honest I know very little about it and its beyond my comprehension to tell right from wrong.

Help needed with JS Group

Hi guys, some weeks ago an IP user added a whole bunch of text to this article, covering alleged financial crimes, fraud, corruption etc, committed by the owner of this group. It is fully unreferenced and poorly written, especially there is no neutral point of view. But I thought that the information itself might be relevant, so I didn't remove it. I am neither an expert on financial subjects nor on Pakistan, so I cannot improve the article by myself. But I'm quite sure the right one to do so is a member of this Wikipedia project, which is why I'm posting the matter here. Thanks for your help! Is Anti-Pakistan Movement a legit NPOV/academic term?

One article I noted (Shabbir Ahmad Usmani) uses the redlink Anti-Pakistan Movement; was that a specific recognised movement, or is that just a negative term pro-Pakistan folks used to label political movements they disagreed with? If the former, is it worth having an article on? If the latter, is it worth having an article on a political label or theme, even if never self-applied?MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:19, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Jhangochi, Rachnavi and Saraiki language

I have recently undone the creation of redirects from Jhangochi and Rachnavi to Saraiki language. I don't know whether or not the redirects were valid but I could see no evidence of discussion. Can I have an informed opinion on it?

While I am on the subject, I notice that there are some other articles redirecting to Saraiki language. For example, Derawali was turned into a redirect on the 24th of January.

New article Exit Control List

Saw this term mentioned in the Bhatti article, so made a stub, Exit Control List. Would it be worth making a list of notable (blue-link) people who have been on this list, maybe with a short description why? Any other good ideas how to expand the article? It seems pretty frequently used as a political weapon. MatthewVanitas (talk) 22:46, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Focusing effort on highest-visibility yet worst-quality Pakistan articles?

As we've noted in past months/years, Pakistan articles have ongoing issues on unsourced content. Rather than get concerned (in the short-term) about articles on villages of 400 people with content like "people here are being very noble and proud, but many have migrated to YORKSHIRE, UK", we can instead focus on articles getting high visibility which have gaping flaws. Personally, before deciding what articles to buckle-down on I tend to use http://www.stats.grok.se to get some idea of monthly hit rates. If folks want to specifically point out an article of high visibility (perhaps 10K hits per month?) maybe a couple of us can team up and tackle that one, and then move on to another high-visibility article. Unreferenced BLPs - the final surge

Since early in 2010, many editors have assisted in the referencing or removal of over 90% of the Unreferenced Biographies of Living People, bringing the total down from over 50,000 to the current 4,862 (as of 16:10, 1 June 2011 (UTC)). Thank you for all of the work you've done to date, but we are now asking for your help in finishing this task. There are two main projects which are devoted to removing UBLPs from en.Wikipedia:

All you have to do is pick your articles and then add suitable references from reliable sources and remove the {{BLP unsourced}} template. There is no need to log your changes, register or remove the articles from the list. If you need any help, or have any comments, please ask at WP:URBLPR or WT:URBLP.

Experienced editors with specialist regional knowledge urgently wanted

The Arbitration Committee is seeking to appoint additional people to the CheckUser and Oversight teams, in particular people with specialist knowledge.

Because of increasing activity in the South Asian, Southeast Asian, or Middle Eastern regions, CheckUser applications are particularly sought from people who not only meet our general requirements but also are familiar with the ISPs and typical editing patterns of any of these regions.

Successful candidates are likely to be regularly available and already familiar with local and global processes, policies, and guidelines especially those concerning CheckUser and Oversight. CheckUser candidates are expected to be technically proficient, and previous experience with OTRS is beneficial for Oversight candidates. All candidates must at least 18 years of age; have attained legal majority in their jurisdiction of residence; and be willing to identify to the Wikimedia Foundation prior to receiving permissions. If you think you may be suitably qualified, please see the appointments page for further information. The application period is scheduled to close 18 September 2011.  Roger Davies talk 15:49, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

The following is an extract from the Indian Independence Act 1947:

[Section]1.-(i) As from the fifteenth day of August, ninteen hundred and forty-seven, two independent Dominions shall be set up in India, to be known respectively as India and Pakistan.

The following is from the text of an important (self-explanatory) UN resolution from 1947:

"The General Assembly: Taking note of the applications for membership submitted to the United Nations by Pakistan and

Yemen, and of the recommendation of the Security Council that the Assembly admit Pakistan and Yemen to membership,Determines that Pakistan and Yemen are, in its judgement, peace-loving States, within the meaning of Article 4 of the Charter, and are able and willing to carry out their obligations under the Charter, and consequently, "Decides to admit Pakistan and Yemen as Members

of the United Nations."

The following are a sample (sample only) of the many treaties during the period that Pakistan was a Dominion. In none is Pakistan described as the "Dominion of Pakistan":

There is no dispute but that Pakistan was indeed a Dominion between 1947 and 1956. However, it is abundently clear that both its common name and its official name was never the "Dominion of Pakistan" although that term was used sometimes. Its official name during that period was simply Pakistan. Accordingly the article called "Dominion of Pakistan" should be moved to something more appropriate e.g. "Pakistan (Dominion)" and the article revised accordingly. I want to raise this here so as to (i) reach consensus as to the facts; and (ii) agree where the article should be moved. NelsonSudan (talk) 18:21, 28 July 2011 (UTC)'Italic text'

-Yes; you're quite right in this instance, although the term "Dominion of Pakistan" was in sporadic official use:

http://untreaty.un.org/unts/1_60000/2/12/00002575.pdf-here's a treaty between Pakistan and India, dated 30th of June 1948.In it, both India and Pakistan are referred to as "the Dominion of India" and the "Dominion of Pakistan" JWULTRABLIZZARD (talk) 11:20, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

I think this is similar to the current constitutional name being "Islamic Republic of Pakistan" while court and government documents usually read "Government of Pakistan" instead of "Government of Islamic Republic of Pakistan". I could be wrong. --lTopGunl (talk) 19:17, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
