Why was the external link section removed? Chadwick Berk (talk) 21:49, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

@Chadwick Berk: It did not follow our external links guideline. There were too many links. See WP:ELYES for what should be included; an official website is appropriate. — JJMC89 21:55, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for your quick response! So those were all official websites but you mean just actual home pages of sites and not the actual profile page? I ask because I have permission from the owner fo the profile to list the link if acceptable. Chadwick Berk (talk) 21:59, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
@Chadwick Berk: No, those are not all official websites. A person usually has one official website. For example, Taylor Swift's is http://taylorswift.com/. Social media and websites that were used as references are not appropriate external links. — JJMC89 22:05, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
Aha, ok thank you very much for explaining and clarifying that. Chadwick Berk (talk) 22:08, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
I restored an IMDb link for you since there isn't a filmography yet. — JJMC89 22:10, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
Excellent! Thank you very much! So just curious, the personal Soundcloud, youtube, reverbnation, and vimeo are not acceptable? Chadwick Berk (talk) 22:16, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
@Chadwick Berk: Generally, they should be avoided. If an article is about a YouTuber, such as PewDiePie, a link to the YouTube channel is appropriate. — JJMC89 22:34, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
Ok, I got you. Thank you very much! Chadwick Berk (talk) 00:34, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Can you please tell me who deleted the page "List of awards and nominations received by Jimmy Lifton" and why was it deleted? Thank you Chadwick Berk (talk) 18:21, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

@Chadwick Berk: List of awards and nominations received by Jimmy Lifton wasn't deleted; it was redirected to Jimmy Lifton by Zackmann08 with the explanation Not worthy of own article. I agree with him; it doesn't contain sufficient content to warrant WP:SPLITTING it from the main article. — JJMC89 18:35, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
Well I wasn't done adding content to the page. I still have like 10 other nominations/wins to add and why is that not worthy of its own page to outline all the awards. I've seen many other people involved in the entertainment community have these pages so why can't he if he has the nominations and wins. Chadwick Berk (talk) 19:27, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
Per WP:SIZESPLIT, the main article with the awards (even double the number that were there) wouldn't be large enough to warrant a split. — JJMC89 20:00, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

Block message:

Autoblocked because your IP address was recently used by "Akanksharaju165". The reason given for Akanksharaju165's block is: "{{checkuserblock-account}}: Abusing multiple accounts: Please see: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Harishital1128"

Decline reason: Autoblock appears to be working as intended. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 19:38, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Bbb23 or other reviewing admin: I created Akanksharaju165 at WP:ACC, see creation log. — JJMC89 19:16, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
what would you like to say about the large number of other socks related to this one?--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 19:38, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
I have unblocked this account in a kind of edit conflict (was just writing my unblock statement). It's rather obvious to me than an account creator would be hit by the autoblock, but unless a CheckUser explicitly links this account to those other sockpuppets, I see no reason to believe this account is related to the large number of other socks used by the same master. Anthony Bradbury, am I missing something? Huon (talk) 19:44, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
@Huon: The account Akanksharajul65, which this user claims to have created, is one member of an extensive blocked sockfarm list. I will take no action here, but do ask you to check this.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 20:12, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
@Huon: I looked, thought I was wrong, looked again and cannot escape from the fact that Akanksharajul65 is a blocked member of a sockfarm, and is a declared creation of JJMC89. my ignorance may be showing, but I cannot see any way in which using WP:ACC could accidentally link into a sockfarm.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 20:12, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
Anthony Bradbury, I would assume that Akanksharaju165 having been created by JJMC89 (which the log given by JJMC89 above confirms) counts as "having used JJMC89's IP address". In that case, when they're blocked, JJMC89 gets hit by the autoblock. Note the "password was sent by email" part of the log: WP:ACC was asked to create that account, JJMC89 did so, but JJMC89 did not themselves have the password. Maybe Bbb23 could comment on whether the CheckUser evidence against the sock farm extends to evidence against JJMC89? I strongly doubt it, but I wouldn't be comfortable having an unblocked sockpuppet with the account creator user right... Huon (talk) 20:28, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
There's zero evidence that JJMC89 is a sock.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:31, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

This has happened to me before, but was lifted with little noise—UY Scuti Talk 04:21, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

UY Scuti, that's what I was expecting to happen – not get accused of being a sock. — JJMC89 21:34, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

AfC

Hi, i see you removed me from the AfC. And said that i have only 407 edits, can you please show me where you took this number, so that i know where to look. When i look on my count i see over 600 edits. Ntb613 (talk) 03:25, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

@Ntb613: There are a few tools to check this. I used this one. Look at main on the right of the pie chart. — JJMC89 04:32, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! :-) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ntb613 (talkcontribs) 04:38, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Request to log a bug

Hi JJMC89, I'm wondering if you're willing to log a bug under phab:T85847 about this bad scenario for content model changes. A page that has been set up to test this is test2wiki:Law3 (can't undo/revert/edit back to wikitext without using Special:ChangeContentModel as far as I know). Thanks in advance, and let me know if there are any issues (I might consider creating a phabricator acct some other time) — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 18:26, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Perhaps scratch that, sorry to bother you. I'm discussing at VPR — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 21:11, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
@Andy M. Wang: No worries. FYI: You can connect your Wikimedia account to Phabricator, no need to have a separate login. — JJMC89 21:26, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Substitution

Thanks for your edits to {{Internetquelle}}. Please could you mark up the other templates in Category:Citation Style 1 templates using German translations to be safe for substitution? Or give me an idiot's guide on doing so? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:18, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

@Pigsonthewing: I've gone ahead and made them subst'able. All parser functions and magic words plus many templates (if you don't want them called in the article) need SAFESUBST:<noinclude /> or they get dumped into the articles when the template is substituted. — JJMC89 21:20, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

Your bot request task#6 has been moved to trial. — xaosflux Talk 14:03, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

This task was approved. — xaosflux Talk 02:23, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Many thanks for your good (and ongoing) work on this. I have just applied {{Wikidata property migration}} to a number of templates which I have converted to use Wikidata, and whose values I have uploaded to Wikidata. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:03, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

@Andy: Please add the ones with consensus (or lack of response after a week) to the request page. — JJMC89 16:26, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
Pinging you in case you have forgotten about this. — JJMC89 21:33, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
Thank you. Not forgotten; I didn't see your earlier ping. I've added a few, but that's tedious - is it possible that taht process could itself be done by a bot? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:28, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
@Andy: I'll look into writing something for my bot to automatically do that. I might add a |user= to {{Wikidata property migration}} to make it easier. — JJMC89 15:32, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks; please let me know if there's more I need to do, or can help by doing. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:20, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
@Pigsonthewing: Please take a look at Template talk:FedCup player#Wikidata 2. — JJMC89 21:22, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

Want to help test advanced new tools planned for Recent Changes?

Hi JJMC89! I’m reaching out to you because our logs tell us you’re a very active Twinkle user (top 25, actually!). The WMF Collaboration team is working on new tools that we hope will be useful to people engaged in reviewing recent changes, fighting vandalism or supporting new users. We want to test them for usability with editors who are experienced with relevant wiki work. If you’re interested in helping to shape this new technology—we’d like to hear from you.

The testing should take about an hour, will be conducted online, and will take place during the next few weeks. To participate, please email dchen[at]wikimedia.org with the subject line Twinkle User. Include the following information:

  • Username
  • Email where we can reach you
  • Your city or time zone
  • Best time to talk to you
  • Your primary use of Twinkle or Recent Changes (e.g., reviewing recent changes, reviewing with a particular focus (specify), anti-vandalism, new-page review, welcoming new users, etc.)

Thanks! Dchen (WMF) (talk) 17:59, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello JJMC89. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of File:Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport Logo.jpg, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: this isn't a redirect to itself: it has a hyphen and the target has an n-dash. Redirects like this are created by a bot so that anyone who has trouble entering an n-dash can use a hyphen and get to the right place. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 22:00, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

@JohnCD: It is a broken redirect. File redirects to files on Commons do not work. [[File:Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport Logo.jpg]] cannot add the target image to a page, and you do not get redirected to the target page. These are deleted under G8 since the target page does not exist locally. — JJMC89 22:08, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
(Pause for experimentation) Yes, you're right; deleted. Sorry about that: I haven't met one of those before, and I supposed that since the bot created it, there must be a purpose. Evidently it is just creating hyphen redirects for any title with an en-dash in it, and it would be hard to program it to recognise titles which are Commons files. Personally, I would like to do away with en-dashes, in the interest of easy editing from keyboards, and have a bot automatically replace them all with with hyphens; but that's not a battle that could be won. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 20:55, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
@JohnCD: No worries. It had a purpose. The target, File:Greenville–Spartanburg International Airport Logo.jpg (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs), was a local file until it was deleted at 09:22, 28 September 2016 (UTC) as a copy of an image available on Commons (F8). — JJMC89 21:09, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

Code for #6

Hi! Is there any chance, that I could see C# module for task 6 of your bot? I don't care, how much pretty or understandable it is for people other than you. You can send me it as plain text via e-mail option, if you're willing to do that. And don't worry - won't publish partially or fully without your permission. If you're not willing to do that, simply say so, so that I don't wait for positive response :) --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 11:08, 22 September 2016 (UTC)

@Edgars2007: I've started to rewrite part of that module because I originally just hacked together to make it work, requiring updates to the module when the templates have extra parameters or different parameter names. Is there a certain part of the code you are interested in? Depending on what you are looking for, it may be better to send the code after I revise it (hopefully this weekend) or point you to where I borrowed some of the code from. If you are looking for something to compare values to Wikidata, the module does not do that. I add {{WikidataCheck}} to the templates and create lists based on the tracking categories. — JJMC89 17:24, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for reply. One of many reasons is learning, so from this POV it would be cool to see current version and revised one; some links to code snippets you used would also be a good bonus. I'm interested in code generally. And no, Wikidata comparing part is out of my interest. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 17:45, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
@Edgars2007: I can post links after work. I think I'll create a GitHub repository to post my AWB modules. I will email you the current code, which I won't post there. — JJMC89 18:47, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
@Edgars2007: The module for task 6 is largely based on Pathoschild's AWB plugin TemplateEditor.cs. I took DelimitTemplates, slightly modified UndelimitTemplates, and butchered GetParameters. — JJMC89 04:50, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
@Edgars2007: I just emailed you the old code. See el-template-param-remover.cs on GitHub for the revised version. — JJMC89 06:41, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
Looks really great. Thanks and happy value remove job! --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 09:29, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

Template count

From what I see in code, you remove all matching templates from EL section. It may cause some problems, if there are more than one template in ELs. I would say - skip if there is more than one. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 05:02, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

@Edgars2007: It processes the section, removing for all instances; however, it does skip if there is more than one. targetTemplateCalls counts the number of matches in the EL section, and if it is not one, then it skips (see line 194). — JJMC89 05:30, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
Hah. I saw comment on line 193 and didn't read the whole line 194 :) Then we're good here, thanks. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 06:15, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
Yea, I moved the check for that and forgot to update the comment. — JJMC89 16:02, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

And while I'm here... on line 128 what are those 4 symbols around \d{1,4} for? Don't believe those are these (by meaning) ... --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 06:21, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

@Edgars2007: I don't know what they are for. That regex is based on WikiRegexes.Headings, which matches any section heading. Maybe Magioladitis knows. — JJMC89 16:02, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
