Unblock Request

I like a request for an unblock, because I messed up editing certain namespaces on the Foxy Fables, Hiro-Kala, Gargoyle (comics), and Spencer Smythe pages and I want to get them right this time. Sundropie (talk) 18:52, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

Nothing you wrote here or in your declined unblock request demonstrates that you understand why you were blocked. Please read Wikipedia:Guide to appealing blocks. — JJMC89 23:50, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
I'm very sorry for editing certain namespaces on the Foxy Fables, Hiro-Kala, Gargoyle (comics), and Spencer Smythe pages like that. What I did was very wrong. I'm just new at this. Please forgive me. Sundropie (talk) 23:04, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
(talk page watcher)@Sundropie: Try using WP:FFU if you want to upload any new files. If you can establish you understand how to use files more appropriately, your account may eventually be unblocked.In addition, please review WP:BLANKING because you shouldn't be removing declined unblock requests from your user talk page because ypur block is current. It's better for you to re-add the declined requests yourself than waiting for someone else to do so because it could be seen as you at least making an effort to understand why you were blocked. Simply removing the declined requests makes it seem as if you're not listening and don't care. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:03, 1 February 2023 (UTC); [Note: Post edited by Marchjuly to strike out the part about removing denied unblock requests. -- 02:51, 1 February 2023 (UTC)]
Thanks, Marchjuly. Removing the declined unblock is permitted since it is not a sitewide block. — JJMC89 00:09, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying that. My apologies to you Sundropie. I've stricken that part from my post. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:51, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
(talk page watcher)@Sundropie: You really should post unblock requests on your user talk page since that's where administrators are going to be looking for them. You also probably should take a look at WP:REDACT for reference as well if you want to edit something you've posted that's already been replied to by another user. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:34, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

additional dependencies in pywikibot

Hello. I am trying to install pandas, using pip install, and pip3 install. Inside venv, I am getting following error:

  File "/data/project/kiranbot4/pwbvenv/bin/pip3", line 5, in <module>
    from pip._internal.cli.main import main
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pip'

and outside venv, I am getting -bash: pip3: command not found
How should I install pandas? —usernamekiran (talk) 10:48, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

I'd guess you are trying to do that from the bastion (has python3.7) instead of from inside k8s (python3.9). Looking at your pwb_venv.sh, change it from pip install $HOME/pywikibot-core[html,mwparserfromhell,mwoauth,mysql,requests,pandas] to pip install $HOME/pywikibot-core[html,mwoauth,mysql] pandas and rerun the job to create the venv. (The bracketed part is only for extras.) — JJMC89 05:39, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

Inactive admins

Hi JJMC89. Is JJMC89 bot checking regularly to see if any admins have fallen below the new 100 edits/5 years activity requirement? I was wondering because I ran a Quarry query and saw that three admins (Minesweeper, Raul654, and Jamesofur) are currently under the threshold but don't seem to have been warned in advance by the bot. Cheers, Extraordinary Writ (talk) 01:18, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

@Extraordinary Writ: It has been checking, but I broke the notification part so it has been seeing no one to notify. It should be fixed so notifications will go out on 1 March. Thanks for letting me know. — JJMC89 02:48, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

Bot not processing Habsburg Monarchy categories

Hi, please can you look at WP:CFDW, where speedy renames to lowercase "monarchy" are not being processed by your bot?– Fayenatic London 00:00, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

@Fayenatic london: There was a typo, which I fixed. — JJMC89 00:19, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks – I couldn't see it! 😅 – Fayenatic London 08:33, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi again, I don't remember it skipping reverse merges before, but it doesn't seem to be processing either the Merge or Retain listings at WP:CFDW from Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2023 February 8#Category:Political philosophy in ancient Greece. – Fayenatic London 16:33, 17 February 2023 (UTC)

@Fayenatic london: That is due to being told to do more than one thing with Category:Political philosophy in ancient Greece – merge to it and retain it. This functionality was introduced from Wikipedia talk:Categories for discussion/Working/Archive 3#Skip/warn on circular instructions, which I implemented as skip if requesting to do more than one thing with a category (instead of precisely determining which actions would be conflicts). — JJMC89 17:23, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
Aha. So either one at a time would be fine, just not both at once. Thanks again! – Fayenatic London 19:05, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
I wonder whether it's worth programming the bot to avoid putting categories into themselves? Downmerging always goes wrong and needs fixing by hand, to put the surviving category into the former parents of the merged category. Category:Political philosophy in ancient Greece is a case in point.
The difficulty would be figuring out what to do instead. – Fayenatic London 19:13, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
I could have it skip putting categories inside itself (e.g., not Special:Diff/1139942369). However, without doing something else, that would leave the category being merged not deleted since it isn't empty. — JJMC89 23:30, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
About the "more than one thing" rule – the bot is able to rename to a category and merge to it at the same time. This is good, as sometimes two categories are merged/combined to a new name, so one has to be renamed and one merged, e.g. [3]. Given that it can do this, please could it also retain and merge to a category at the same time?

Renaming McNeese Articles

I disagree with all of the edits you are making to these pages. The school is more commonly known as ‘McNeese State,’ and not just ‘McNeese,’ despite their recent campaign to modify this. Wikipedia guidelines for naming orgs, etc. is the common name, so I’d like for you to either provide evidence that this new name is more commonly known……or reverse your edits. Thanks Frank042316 (talk) 14:47, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

I didn't make any of the edits. The bot edits were directed by Ymblanter per the request at WP:CFD/S to aign the category names with the article names. — JJMC89 15:44, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
@Frank042316:, I am afraid at this point you would need to take the categories to WP:CFD. For the record, here are the arguments which lead to the speedy move: [4]. Ymblanter (talk) 16:14, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

An apology

I apologize. I'm sorry about the logos of Pan American Games and FIVB logo. I was wrong about that Volleyball Player Paula Weishoff. They wouldn't be using that of her resume while you did remove it. I understand. 100.2.114.167 (talk) 06:17, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
