Man City Squad Template

Please stop removing the club captain indicator from the squad template, this was discussed at WP:FOOTY and the consensus was that it should stay. If you disagree please start a new discussion. Also please stop hiding it in other edits without reference in the edit summary Paul  Bradbury 20:49, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

No problem it refernce is [here]. Sorry didn't mean for the above to sound as harsh as it does on re-reading, but I had reverted it the last time you did it and mentioned that in my edit summary, so I assumed you were ignoring it as I had seen no discussion. My bad. Paul  Bradbury 21:35, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Hérita Ilunga

Hi, with reference to the permanent signing of Ilunga, i am using the official WHU website for this information. It is contained in the end of the 4th paragraph. [1] Hope you find this to be sufficient to back up the edit. Cheers Deckchair (talk) 13:20, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Actually it is strange and looking for my sources did make me wonder why there had not been an official announcement. I now question whether the single sentence i mentioned is enough. Oh well, one to think on. Deckchair (talk) 23:26, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Emile Heskey's International Goals

Hi. I'm commenting regarding the International Goals section you removed from Emile Heskey's page. I believed it added good information to the article, and it was referenced and sourced. I know you're an experienced football article editor, but I was wondering if a decision had been made regarded the sections at WP:FOOTY, as there are many other articles with the section, including Michael Owen, Andrea Pirlo and others. Thanks, Eastlygod (talk) 20:23, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the reply. I've started a new topic at WP:FOOTY, as it seemed no consensus was reached in the discussion last March. Cheers, Eastlygod (talk) 21:23, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

WHUFC

We're it not for the evidence of my own eyes in my contribution list I would wonder what you were talking about. Honest answer, I don't know - to the point that I didn't even know I'd done it. Only possible explanation is that I accidentally clicked rollback against that edit on my watchlist when I was shutting my PC down before I left work, hence lack of edit summary. Sounds a bit lame but I can't think how else it could have happened. Really sorry & please don't let my ineptness deter you from continuing the fine work you do keeping the Hammers page clean - a never-ending and thankless task. Fulfordgate

Hi, I just had a look at the Fulfordgate article and spotted that the link New Brighton F.C. goes to a dab page, are any of the options there the right one? Keith D (talk) 23:33, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks that was a quick response, keep up the good work. Keith D (talk) 23:43, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Andrew Corbett, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. RE: Nicky Adams

it was purely an aesthetic decision, the size of it stretches the info box so much it destorts the rest of the article. Skitzo (talk) 17:54, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

James Wesolowski

hey, as i know you're an active member of WP:Footy can you help me with James Wesolowski as an ip keeps placing his move to Dundee United in its own section and adding an – to his years in the info box, its only a loan and as yet he hasn't even played so its not worth its own section, cheers in advance Skitzo (talk) 19:49, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

the ndash is incorrect though as it is only a 6 month loan deal, should they sign him permanently it'll require a new line anyway. Skitzo (talk) 20:55, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

My inclination to delete was stayed when I saw that it was a reliable contributor such as yourself who had uploaded the photo on this article, but I would have to, how can I put this subtly, invite you to consider whether the quality of the photo, considering the camera shake, constitutes a piece of work that you would be proud to share with the world. PFA Premier and Football League Players Records (1946-2005)

Hi Matty. I'm currently taking List of Oxford United F.C. players to PR and then onto FLC. Three of the players' appearances on the list are not covered by any references on the internet (except a fan website). These players are Les Phillips, Alan Judge (English footballer) and Gary Smart. I was wondering firstly if the above book contains appearance data for all competitions like the Anglo-Italian Cup, and secondly if it does, if you could give me the appearance and goal data for those three players. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks. Eddie6705 (talk) 12:46, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Your NUFC revert

Confirmation, and about time too! What the (&@%^%£ (expletive deleted) did the club think they were playing at, leaking (as I assume they did) this on the (expletive deleted) First of (yet another one deleted) April? I bet Wikipedia is the only "news" source in the world that actively tried to not trumpet the news until there was solid confirmation. You know, somebody, somewhere (the Signpost, maybe?) could make something of that.

Regarding Shearer, though, this is a win/win for him, I think. If Newcastle stay up it's "the Shearer effect", if we go down it's "well they brought him in too late, it's hardly his fault". We'll see. Tonywalton Talk 21:56, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of John Andrews (footballer)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article John Andrews (footballer), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

"This article appears to be totally unreferenced biography of a living person. Please remove this tag only if you can provide at lest one source AND you believe the subject to be otherwise encyclopedic"

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Vote for Football as the Australian collaboration

Hi -- I recently nominated Wikipedia:WikiProject Football (soccer) in Australia/To-do for the Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight.

This WikiProject has been inactive for a long time and with the World Cup coming up, it would be good for football (soccer) articles to be in depth and comprehensive in Australia.

If you would like to support it, click here for the project page to cast your vote

Thanks! Australian Matt (talk) 02:40, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Oh. My mistake. RicoRichmond (talk) 21:16, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello, recently created the above, and was wondering if your books could clear up a bit of confusion. Michael Joyce's Football League Players' Records has Harvey at York City between Birmingham and Bradford City, whereas my Birmingham sources have him moving directly to Bradford. Do you have any mention of him at York? presumably it would be at the end of the 1926/27 season, if it happened. I'm asking Peanut4 as well. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:40, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

So presumably if he played the whole of the 1926/27 season for your lot, he didn't actually play for mine on 22 Jan 1927... Looks like yet another season grid in Matthews that nobody proofread properly, then, unfortunately this time combined with incomplete research in the player profile. Hey ho. I'm pretending you didn't mention Sheff Wed, on the basis he doesn't appear either in Joyce or the Sheff Wed archive so he didn't play for the first team and might have just been on trial or whatever. Thanks for looking him up, I'll add your info to the article. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:57, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Unsuccessful trial, I say. Kicked round the reserves a bit = "failing to make an impact". If that is the case, though, I'm still surprised Joyce doesn't mention Sheff Wed with zero appearances... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:22, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey, maybe you have something to add on him. Cheers.--EchetusXe (talk) 15:37, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Gunnar Nielsen

Re: your revert of my edit saying that his loan has ended - you may be right. However, I'm going from this source, specifically the quote "Whatever the final outcome of his problem, it has certainly ended his season after just five games on loan from Manchester City." and the general practice of clubs returning injured loanees to the parent club if there is no chance of them recovering during the loan period. Added on top of this that Nielsen can't do much more than fitness training with a broken hand, and City's medical facilities have to be better than Wrexham's and I can't really see him still being on loan now. But I admit I could be wrong, so I'm not going to push the issue any further than referencing my thoughts. Falastur2 Talk 04:25, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Barry Conlon

Hello Matty, just letting you know, that the official Grimsby Town website, is pretty slow on current events. Conlon's squad number was 24 for last season, while he was on loan. If you look at the squad on that site, it still lists players such as Richard Hope as squad number 6, and still part of the squad, even though he is long gone. I was just in the process of listing a dash next to new additions to the squad until the 09-10 numbers are released. I hope you don't mind, but I re-edited the section, to add Conlon with a dash. Many Thanks Footballgy (talk) 23:10, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I'm not reviewing for GA but I spotted something in the lead: "It is also Colin Walker's first full season as manager" can't be true because he only lasted until November. Cheers. --Jameboy (talk) 22:46, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

If you have a minute

please could you do me a favour, and look up the date of birth of Geoff Scott (ex Stoke, Leicester etc etc) in Hugman's book. The reason I ask, is that all sources (Matthews' BCFC book, Neil Brown, Sporting Heroes etc) give 31 Oct 1956, but in this interview, Mr Scott appears to be rewriting history a little bit, like knocking 4 years off his age, making his debut in a game he didn't play in, which he claims made him Stoke's youngest player blah blah. So before ignoring that interview totally as a source for writing Mr Scott's WP article, I thought I'd better check. No hurry, just when you've got a minute. Thanks, Struway2 (talk) 09:08, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

There's always the faintest possibility that Scott's right and all the reliable sources are wrong... I found an article in The Times archive dated 19 Feb 1980, which said "Chelsea have completed the signing of Dennis Rofe, the Leicester City full back, ... Leicester City moved quickly to find a replacement. They bought Geoff Scott, 21, from Stoke City." Which, if accurate, would back up Scott's retiring from league football at 26. All you'd need is a typo in his birthdate in the first "reliable" source, then the others follow it, and all of a sudden it's a proven fact that he was born in 1956..... Though I have to go with the reliable sources, and ignore the PFA interview, it's an interesting little question. Thanks for looking him up, cheers, Struway2 (talk) 07:50, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I've been asked why the place of birth is deleted from the opening sentence of leads e.g. John Smith (born 1 January 2001, in Wherever, Some country). Madrid kit numbers

I do not trust the English version of the site because the Spanish version is more complete, e.g., the cantera in the English site goes no further than Castilla while the spanish version has the whole youth squads. Since players' contracts do not end until June 30 each year, #18 is still occuppied! And jersey assignments are official on August 31 (or whenever the transfer window closes). Even pre-season assignments could change after new acquistions are made. Just wait until the new season begins. Raul17 (talk) 18:59, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

By the way, the English site has De la Red and Faubert listed with #18!! Raul17 (talk) 19:05, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

You said "He was in York City's squad for a 2–1 pre-season victory against Chesterfield in August 2007", yet the reference made no mention of him. Do you remember anything about it?--EchetusXe (talk) 13:35, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Jordi Gómez

Hi there MATTY, VASCO from Portugal here,

Regarding this footballer's article i'll say the following:

First of all, sorry if my edit summary was a bit harsh, i sometimes get a little bit carried away when writing them. Hope i have not crossed any line.

Now, for my changes: Upon stumble on an article about a football player, one of the most striking things is its infobox. I noticed that your cleanup included opening links on some soccer clubs (i.e. writing RCD ESPANYOL when ESPANYOL suffices perfectly), so i reverted in, for compression purposes. That's when i inadvertently (through copy/paste) reverted a lot of your other edits, which i now comment on:

  • 1: Birthdate was relocated into brackets again; i just happen to think it's more befitting (i have not read MOS yet, but think a minute, mate: if the article starts with the name, then birthdate and place should follow in the same "zone", and then for the storyline about the given player's career). However, if i am grossly out of order, of course you should revert it back.
  • 2: Weight parameter was inserted again; yes Matty, i know it does not show in box, but i have seen lots of articles with that put when one clicks "edit this page", and i thought leaving it would be additional info, even if only available when one edits. I have removed it now (please check edit history).
  • 3: I thought the FOOTBALL (SOCCER) link was perfectly accurate, honestly (as good as ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL, have seen it in 1000's of players), and this was the first edit of your changes i undid totally unaware as to what i was doing. I have also changed back to your link (please check edit history).
  • 4: Another inadvertent change by me - I did not go as far, when reverting back to my version, as reading if there were any new categories, so did not now there were any new ones. Have already reinstated PEOPLE FROM BARCELONA, my apologies (please check edit history).
  • 5: Transfer to WIGAN: as you can see, i have referenced said move, albeit in a Spanish source (which i think you would agree it's pretty much reliable, as the players hails from that nation and has played in the country). Of course, if move breaks down, do remove it, or i'll also do it, no worries there (by the way, also inserted WIGAN ATH PLAYERS cat, which i will removed if transfer does not finally happen).

That is all for the moment Matty, sorry for any incovenience, hope we can work well in the future, i also happen to work mainly on football (no particular team or country, versatile edits is "my game"),

Attentively, VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 21:45, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
