They continue with their no-PC-update policy. Sincerely Matty, I am not in a position to give you tips on how to do your job (and even if I was, I would not do it anyway), but if no block is going to occur, then i'll stop wasting your/my time and just revert, revert, revert/ignore, ignore, ignore. I repeat what I conveyed in last message regarding this subject, quite worrysome that now, not only are the PC updates still left out but the maths are now completely wrong (these last reversions I carried out, not one player - according to SOCCERWAY that is - had their AEK Larnaca stats right!).

George Friend

Hi there, the updates I've made to George Friend's page include, updated appearances (http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=43702), gaining a degree (http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/boro-defender-george-friend-swaps-8821722) and also club and personal honours. They are all true and correct. If you could allow this content to be added it would be greatly appreciated, improving Friend's page. Fixed-width columns in manager stats tables

Hello. Was wondering why you decided to adopt fixed-width columns rather than the default settings? My eyesight requires me to have my screen font size rather larger than factory setting, and for me, the WP default table settings at Mark Yates (footballer)#Managerial statistics made it neat, compact and comfortable to read. The fixed-width version viewed on IE11 is still acceptable, albeit wider overall. But at my font size on Firefox v.43.0.4, my browser of choice, the dates columns are set too narrow to display the 22 December 2009 date on a single line, but the much wider G/W/D/L cells make the table significantly wider overall (excluding the ref column), and all that added white space round the numbers doesn't aid readability.

If you check out Help:Table#Setting column widths, towards the bottom of the section, there's a warning in italics that advises against setting fixed-width in pixels for various user-end reasons such as browser rendering, font-size issues, device size. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:05, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for pointing this out. As someone who's usually conscious of accessibility, I should have thought of the impact on browers, font sizes, devices etc. I've re-formatted the Yates table, I think it's now how it should be.
Another point re accessibility: these tables give no explicit indication as to what "G W D L Win %" actually mean. How do you think they should be best explained? Perhaps a key above the table, tooltips, or both? Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 14:54, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
Personally, I prefer P, which is what most published league tables use for their column headings and what Template:WDL uses in its examples, or M, both of which are widely used in manager lists (where G isn't). But there does seem to be a de facto consensus for individual stats tables to use G.

Tooltips for rendering abbreviations are permitted as an an exception to the no-interaction rule, and they have the virtue of not being overly intrusive. In context of football stats on an English-language website, even one with a large non-native-speaking readership, if we started putting a key for something as bleedinobvious as WDL we really would be asking for trouble. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:37, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Simon Clist

I went to school with Simon for over a decade. He was born in Bournemouth, not Shaftesbury (where we went to school). I can't reference his birth place, and it doesn't particularly matter either I suppose. I was just amending it to satisfy my OCD! To be fair, I don't think Shaftesbury hospital even had/has a birthing center, so you could check that I suppose. Otherwise it'll have to stay incorrect I guess. Thanks anyway.217.155.13.45 (talk) 14:37, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi, all content needs to be covered by reliable sources, so I'm afraid anecdotal evidence doesn't count for anything. But I will try to see if I can find a source that cites Bournemouth as his POB. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 14:42, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

complaint against User:ARNAB22

This is a complaint against User:ARNAB22 ...Sir i just found out from the talk page of this user that even u have asked him to behave. But he simply refuses to do so. For instance, on the Bollywood wikipedia page, he has been posting a new pic of Shah Rukh Khan even though there is already a pic of Shah Rukh given there. And in the caption he writes that Shah Rukh has won "most number of awards", without giving any citation. Every time someone removes this pic and citation, he again posts it there, despite being warned against this. He recently did this on 20 Jan, 2016. In addition, he uses poor English in many of his other edits, and has been warned on this too by other users (see his talk page). I request you to take action against User:ARNAB22. Tommy Taylor (footballer, born 1951)

Hi I hope this is in the right place if not I apologise Mattythewhite, but I see you have revised my recent Category additions, but back 1951, Hornchurch was part of Essex, not in London Borough as Havering did not exist until 1975, hence the additions. Please feel free to check the Essex County Council records. LordAnon of Essex (talk) 22:0, 31 January 2016 (UTC).

And Category:People from Hornchurch is itself in Category:People from Essex (before 1965), and adding that, or any county category, would be overcategorisation. This was explained to you on your talk page in July 2015. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:14, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Watchlist

Hi, sorry to bother you. My watchlist looks weird so I am just checking if more editors have the same problem? Qed237 (talk) 17:52, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

Working now again. Qed237 (talk) 18:39, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello there,

I was trying to fix the display of the refs in the given table, because ref #55 looked kind of odd (with wording such as "Retrieved 27 January 2016.br"). I looked only partially at the edit history before making my "thing", hence I did not have a clue as to who inserted the table in the first place, and was only (as always) trying to help. Afterwards, I checked said source and the weird symbols had disappeared, so I thought I had "nailed it".

Perhaps the use of the word "shabby" was not correct here? I meant to say "something in disarray" or "unaligned", not trying to belittle anyone. Apologies to anyone that might feel uneasy with my usage of such a term in the future.

Attentively, continue the good work --84.90.219.128 (talk) 22:09, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

Florent Malouda latest transfer

Hello Mat,

Thanks for your edit regarding the Florent Malouda's latest transfer, I've been trying to be neutral about it, but may be I didn't use the proper words to describe it, saying that it was a "weird move" might not be the most appropriate way to describe it, so I'd rather replace it with "surprise move".

I'm from Egypt, and Wadi Degla is a newly founded club, so it was a surprise to me, and to every one actually, when that signing was announced.

All respects to any one mentioned in my edits/comments and to yourself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guidemember (talkcontribs) 08:40, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

We talked before about this article, so here it goes for your analysis: any suggestions on how to tackle this? The person continues to add games for all competitions in his infobox (summaries could not be clearer), and all of their edits are made from a mobile device, so they're pretty much "unreachable". I'm pretty sure this is the account Sky1two, which has not edited in months, coincidentally shortly after receiving your first messages.

Running out of options here but revert, what's your intake? Cheers --84.90.219.128 (talk) 14:53, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

Roy Carroll edit

Hi. I am only a very occasional contributor and have no idea how this process works. You removed my edit saying there was "no reliable source". I'm not sure why you think a source is necessary ; the season statistics speak for themselves, and are available for all to see on the 2007-8 season page for Derby - 14 games after Carroll began playing, during which he let in 38 goals, and the club set a new Premiership record for the lowest ever points total. If you need a cross-reference as a "reliable source" it would be this Wiki page : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007%E2%80%9308_Derby_County_F.C._season . I don't know how to use that in a way which is acceptable to you. BOB — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.155.5.57 (talk) 22:31, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

No, they need to enter the manager's name in the search bar and select managers on the dropdown menu. Why should we make our readers search for sources, when we could easily place them there? Sheer laziness. And actually, it's down to you to do so. See WP:BURDEN. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:46, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

You've taken the enjoyment of it. I'll leave it to you to monitor English league football as you appear to be in the know. Good luck. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JOESPICE (talkcontribs) 00:58, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Well, it's up to you if you want to edit within policy. Mattythewhite (talk) 01:03, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Report - Doubt

1 - I actually told you once I was going to drop this, but I won't, really feeling curious as to how this will end... The AEK Larnaca fan continues at it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/213.207.164.174);

2 - Steven Vitória, one important, the other not so: the user that reverted me (I'm on good terms with them, just don't know where else to turn for mediation) said that, since Mr. Vitória is now a Canadian international, we should refer to him as a "soccer player" not a "footballer". Come again? Makes no sense to me, is this standard policy? I thought ALL articles should refer to people in the sport as footballers, why the differentiation?

The second part: they did not give me more than two examples to back them up, but apparently we should enter city country AND province in the infobox. Shouldn't we go with just with city/town and country, leaving further geographic details to the storyline proper? Again, this is of minor importance, and if you check the edit history, you'll see I have not further reverted anything.

Thanks in advance, cheers --84.90.219.128 (talk) 17:55, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

First point: I believe they are correct, in line with MOS:ENGVAR. Second point: I know I wouldn't include the province for a European player, but whether standard practice is different for biographies of players from across the pond I don't honestly know. My Luca Modrić edit.

I was watching the match and Luka Modrić scored a goal. I went to his page on Wikipedia and added one goal to his total. It was later removed for no reason. Thabk You Uu maati (talk) 00:29, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

Matty, could you weigh in on this please (see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:MuyXmuy#Javad_Nekounam)? In the statistics chart below (not the box proper), is it not customary practice to link the leagues only one time, per WP:OLINK? I have done that (oh, and inserting also proper competition name, for example UAE Arabian Gulf League instead of the redirect "UAE Football League") only to be reverted twice.

Hello everyone :)

Subject : Javad Nekounam & Persian Gulf Pro League

"Persian Gulf Pro League" which is the highest level of football competition in Iran has changed names several times over the years.

1970-1972 : Tehran Local League

1972-1978 : Takht Jamshid Cup

1989-1990 : Qods League

1991-2001 : Azadegan League

2001-2006 : Iran Pro League

2006-2014 : Persian Gulf Cup

2014-* * * * : Persian Gulf Pro League

Moreover, the second-highest football competition in Iran is now called Azadegan League or (1st Division).

Furthermore, top football league in UAE (UAE Arabian Gulf League) has changed names several times, also.

1973-2007 : UAE Football League

2007-2013 : UAE Pro League

2013-* * * * : UAE Arabian Gulf League

When Javad Nekounam played for Pas F.C., the Iranian top-level football league was called "Azadegan League" from 1998-2001 and it was called Iran Pro League from 2001-2006. When he played for Al-Wahda F.C. & Al-Sharjah SCC from 2005-2006, the UAE football league was called UAE Football League. When he played for Esteghlal F.C. from 2012-2014, the Iranian football league was called Persian Gulf Cup. When he played for Saipa F.C. from 2015-2016, the Iranian football league is now called Persian Gulf Pro League.

I believe we should NOT change history and name the leagues as they were identified as, not as they currently are.

Happy editing :) MuyXmuy (talk) 01:25, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

  • Well? --84.90.219.128 (talk) 20:39, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
    • For historical accuracy, we should refer to competitions by their name at the time, so I agree we should include the Persian Gulf Pro League's previous names. I'd argue we should link each of the names, as our readers may not otherwise realise that they are the same competition, but rather assume they are different competitions that aren't linked. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:34, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

OK, thanks. Then, I will leave things as the user above inserted. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 22:02, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Request

Matty, could you please see that CE Sabadell FC is moved to its prior name (that is to say, without the dots in the "FC" bit)? A fellow user came to my page with the concern that the move was unnecessary and unwarranted, a concern which I share.

I leave it to your better judgement, of course. Attentively --84.90.219.128 (talk) 15:15, 15 February 2016 (UTC)

Liverpool F.C.

Hi Mattythewhite! I edited Liverpool F.C. page to add Marko Grujic's number, which I did not cite... I based that off of this webpage and I was wondering if it could be considered a good enough source to cite. Thank you for the help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jcat9 (talkcontribs) 18:30, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

From the plains of Cyprus...

...where User:Minas7 often roams free, I bring you this guy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:FifaManager2015). Seems like an Anorthosis Famagusta FC fan, also does not PC update in spite of several warnings. I reverted the players where I edit regularly in (Toni Calvo, Andrea Orlandi, couple more), but I suppose they do that in all.

Handed a v4im warning. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:14, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

Regarding your linguistic doubt, I would really like to help because you need it, but it will be quite complicated, let's put it that way... and it has NOTHING to do with the fact that I have interacted with said user for several years, almost always in good terms even though I do admit he is a difficult user to work with (I admit I am also, so there). It has SOLELY to do with the fact I do not know what "dois malas" means, not in a million years. Is he trying to speak Portuguese ("dois" is two, "malas" is suitcases)? Spanish (in that case "malas" would be the feminin of bad, in a plural form, could it mean he thinks you wrongly warned him twice?)?

Do you want me to ask him directly? If not, of course I will not, just say "the word". --84.90.219.128 (talk) 23:51, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

I suspect he's being passive-aggressive, but if you don't mind asking him I would appreciate it. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:54, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
Is not aggressive, it's frustration. It is a slang term for "scolding" means "two reprimands." Anyway, I apologize. I will not do more. Josepolivares (talk) 16 February 2016 (UTC)

Oops, glad "beef" (for lack of a better word) is settled, cheers both. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 00:14, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

Hint about recent vandalism's in Portuguese football

Recently there's been a spike in vandalism in Portuguese football and Benfica related articles from a an IP that starts with something like 85.240. Since it started to be really annoying, I'll help out since no one else sees this more often that I do. Examples:

85.240.130.12 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)
85.240.138.245 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)
85.240.135.184 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)
85.240.131.126 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)
85.240.131.118 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), this one just does one vandalism in [Rui Vitória]

There are others that diverge a little in the IP sequence, but do the same kind of edits in the same articles, most are vandalism, others aren't, but the editing style is unmistakeable:

85.245.214.59 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)
85.247.28.137 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)
89.180.155.70 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)
89.180.144.63 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)

And there are the edits which are not vandalism, but allows me to show that this is the same person, see the consistency in updating stats in 2015–16 S.L. Benfica season, or in Benfica players:

85.240.130.169 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)

85.240.146.117 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)
85.240.147.137 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)
85.240.139.64 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) In this account, he uses the edit summary to write stuff like "Porto is shit, Sporting is shit, Proença is corrupt".
85.138.58.147 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)

I think if yourself or some admin that knows how to detect mannerism's and an editing pattern does some research, it will easily find out who this is. A checkuser will prove it, I'm sure. It's a obvious WP:DUCK. I'll give a hint, it has a registered account that edits in the same style and this [edit] will instantly reveal who he is, since there is only one person here that consistently writes "Portuguese champions Benfica" across various articles. Also, he generally vandalises when Benfica loses points, like in 15 December with União Madeira or recently with Porto on 12 February. When Benfica is on a winning streak, he uses his account, but when it loses, he starts vandalising and his account is dormant.--Threeohsix (talk) 12:24, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

This "person" lives and breathes hatred that cannot be "healed" for Sporting Clube de Portugal and FC Porto, in my opinion we don't need "people" like this in WP. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 14:32, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

In Steven Vitória, for example, several other IP addresses starting with 85 can be found. Also, have a look at this other IP (here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/85.240.135.184), the unblock request made by this "person" is both comical and to vomit one's insides (oh, and don't forget the summaries, seems to have a verbal knack for "motherfucker" and "son of a whore"!). Block range anyone? --84.90.219.128 (talk) 15:43, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

Vasco, I've provided the evidence to relate all IP's and it's now on admins. If they do a behavioural analysis in the main account, they will easily find out it's the same person. I'll say one more thing. It's not the first time this IP's 85.240 something are involved in multiple account abuse. There is even a category for it in Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Fixed4u which, Scottywong and GiantSnowman may remember. And that are just the one's that were caught, were are others that I noticed, B1904, RoomZone, Sandtoss, JudaseJesus. Basically, Fixed4u never left, he just created another account and carry on.--Threeohsix (talk) 17:30, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

Jabo Ibehre

Hi Matty,

Thanks for your recent review/edit of my update to Jabo Ibehre's stats.

I was wondering why this edit was made and why it was marked "partial stats update". If you mean by partial in terms of being part-way through the season, that's true, but 19 December (the previous update date) is also partial in this way, yet that was accepted.

Using the BBC football website, a well-used and reliable source for football-related articles on Wikipedia, I looked through the line-ups for all of Carlisle's matches, both league and cup, from 19 December onwards, and added the numbers for his appearances and goals. I then checked that the totals matched up, which they did.

It's the first time I've updated football stats but I am certain that I got the correct numbers from a reliable source. Could you explain why you undid this edit? Is there perhaps only a certain point during the season when you're supposed to edit these things?

Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MorbidStories (talkcontribs) 08:55, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

Because the figures in the "Total" column were not updated, meaning the figures were not synchronised. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:42, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

There seems to be a vast array of IPs starting with 86 (seen for example in Slaviša Jokanović, Ernesto Valverde or Rubi (footballer)). Now, for wanting to HELP and stop a sock in its tracks, I am getting this summary in my edits: "Non-autoconfirmed user rapidly reverting edits". Well, pardon me WP! --84.90.219.128 (talk) 03:16, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

The 86.178.37.61 address continues, as of NOW. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 12:44, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

  • Think nothing of my rant in paragraph #4 of my original message, it's just a technicality in which WP engages for ALL people that do the same actions I did, nothing personal against me of course. I just wrote that thinking of all those idiot accounts that are created just for vandalism (I have seen several with just one or two edits and they are not even blocked so that is not why they quit, why create an account for that?!). Also, I think this user (account or IP) may be looked upon with a new light now, since they have started adding refs. Of course, since you are the (fair) admin and you think they should be blocked, who am I to disagree (it's not very cool on their part to deny the sockpuppetry, that I see)?

Carry on, "see" you --84.90.219.128 (talk) 14:58, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

Harry Harpham

I have tried to amend the personal details for Harry Harpham as they were incorrect . Unfortunately the press have consistently misreported his personal details. He was in fact married twice and had two children from his first marriage. I can not find a good article from the press to use as a citation. Although the guardian obituary is clearer than anything else I have seen reported. Foy007 (talk) 18:52, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

I don't know how I can explain it more clearly... when you update the appearances and goals in the infobox, you should update the date that is presented in a paramter marked |club-update= or |pcupdate=. The correct way of updating the date is by adding five tildes (~~~~~). Mattythewhite (talk) 00:03, 21 February 2016 (UTC)

He also played 10 matches and scored 10 goals for al-Hilal in domestic and international cups according to Soccerway. I hope you remove your warning. Hazel (talk) 00:26, 21 February 2016 (UTC)

Reliable sources

Hello from Bosnia, Matty!

I was wondering, is national-football-teams.com a reliable source regarding players' club apps? I was thinking of putting that data to Edin Džeko's career statistics table. Thank you! GlabajteMiMuda (talk) 22:21, 21 February 2016 (UTC) GlabajteMiMuda (talk) 22:21, 21 February 2016 (UTC)

In my experience, this site is regarded as a reliable source for club appearances. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:27, 21 February 2016 (UTC)

Joey Barton

So his own website isn't a legitimate source, then? AmorPatiturMoras (talk) 19:52, 21 February 2016 (UTC)AmorPatiturMoras

Preferably not, per WP:PSTS. Besides, you've added an entirely unsourced statement with: "It was to be his first and only appearance for the national side". Mattythewhite (talk) 20:21, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
Okay, but the Gerrard/Lampard thing is false information and he clarifies that in the interview with Clare Balding, hence the video. I've looked elsewhere for another source, but it seems like no one really cares. Also yes, I'm aware I'm jumping the gun with his sole cap, but let's be honest: he's never going to play for England again. I guess he'll retire in a couple years, and then the statement will be true. AmorPatiturMoras (talk) 22:45, 21 February 2016 (UTC)AmorPatiturMoras
I agree it's highly unlikely he'll ever be capped again, but still, it's a statement that needs citing. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:23, 21 February 2016 (UTC)

My edits keep getting taken down despite this being sourced from the soccerbase link number 53.

3 - Thanks on first two items. Now, having a quick glance at the WP:FOOTY report about Fernando Santos (football coach) and reading all positive comments (especially that of fellow admin GS), can you please move the page to either "Fernando Santos" (with a hatnote, but then I don't know what on earth will we name the disambiguation page) or "Fernando Santos (Portuguese footballer)"? I ask this of thee because it seems only an admin can move page now.

Thanks again --84.90.219.128 (talk) 01:35, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello Matty, could you please move Oluwatosin Adarabioyo to Tosin Adarabioyo per COMMONNAME. He's known as this on the Man City website Tosin Adarabioyo. Thanks, JMHamo (talk) 22:47, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

The article existed at Tosin Adarabioyo before @Thursby16: apparently made an unexplained cut and paste move. Hi there, I have made an edit on Jonathan Mitchell as per Wikipedia templates which has been changed and then reverted again by another user. Their change was not per either the Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Players template or the Wikipedia:Citation templates and included punctuation errors so I reverted the change, but they reverted this again telling me not to revert again. Page move

Matty, can you please change Gonzalo Rubén Bergessio to just "Gonzalo Bergessio"? No article in WP comes close to this in title, and when you type just "GB" in the search engine it redirects to the page.

I have already asked this of another user, he says he cannot, maybe this is a case of previous moves having been performed and now the "onus" falls to an admin. By the way, the title of this account may give you a hint as to who is its holder :)

Attentively, thanks in advance --Be Quiet AL (talk) 02:35, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Done, with the edit history of the former redirect now located at Gonzalo Bergessio (footballer), for the sake of attribution. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:44, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
FYI I have partially reverted you at Luis Enrique (footballer). I have restored the previous titles to more accurately reflect what the pages are titled, and to more clearly earmark to our readers what each link provides. I have also restored the work paramaters for the Soccerbase and Soccerway links, IIRC Struway and I explained their usage to you recently. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:44, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

1 - Thanks; 2 - I, for one, don't like to make up titles of sources and write EXACTLY what they say, no season appears in the main title of the BDFUTBOL entries. Also, I think it was Struway (can't be sure though) that told me TWO fields is correct but ONE (as far as publisher/work/newspaper's concerned) is also 100% correct, and thus I was aiming for simplicity. Whatever, it stays like that, sorry for the inconvenience. --Be Quiet AL (talk) 14:46, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Rules and copyright

Hi, you are an admin and edit sports (including football) and I need advise.

I recently looked at 2016 UEFA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament and saw User:Diannaa removing tiebreaker rules as copyright and hiding 61 revisions. Are they copyright? It is not something we can change and modify of our own, rules are rules and not something to be interpreted and changed. The tiebreakers are a list of what happens, and it is used on so many articles. I opened discussion at User talk:Diannaa#2016 UEFA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Please advice. Qed237 (talk) 22:46, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Not sure I've experienced a situation like this before so I'm not really qualified to comment, is the concern over the wording being exactly the same? Mattythewhite (talk) 23:10, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
As the revisions are hidden, I can not say if the wording where exactly the same but I think they where. However, I dont think it should matter as we can not rewrite a list of rules. Qed237 (talk) 23:18, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Rotherham United club badge

Hi Matty Noticed you around a lot in the history of various football pages, so thought I'd ask for your help. Apologies if this is presumptuous. The club badge on Rotherham United F.C.] - [3] is incorrect. It's the pre-2005 rebranding badge, although to the occasional viewer it's not exactly obvious. I'm happy to fix this, but I have absolutely no idea how to do so. Could you help me out please? Cheers Gricehead (talk) 10:02, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

Fixtures

Hi, is it okay to break WP:3RR to remove fixtures protected by UK copyright laws at 2015–16 Leicester City F.C. season? One editor fails to see the issue (discussed at their talkpage). Qed237 (talk) 16:23, 12 March 2016 (UTC)

I wouldn't block someone for doing so, but I'd probably err on the side of caution and not, in case another admin sees things differently. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:27, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for your help. I will not do any more edits to the article until case has been resolved. The editor is currently at edit warring noticeboard. Qed237 (talk) 16:35, 12 March 2016 (UTC)

Creating a page

Greetings from Gemany by a Bosnian user!

I have a question for you. Bosnian national coach today gave a list of players called up for next friendlies and there are two players from Bosnian League who do not have their pages on Wikipedia. So my question is, should I try to make them a page, or wait until they make senior debut?

Thanks Matty HenryChinaski91 (talk) 15:26, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

Unless they've already played in a fully-professional league, you should wait until they make their debuts, per WP:NFOOTBALL. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 15:35, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

86.173.3.112. Do you think it's worth investigating the possibility of range blocks, if you haven't already? Obviously there are multiple ranges, and no doubt some of them are too busy to be blockable, but there might be some smaller ranges that could be... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:33, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

Sockpuppets

There used to be a sockmaster called Alex Latham: the SPI is here. His main characteristic was persistence in doing what he did (which was primarily creating nicely formatted short articles about non-notable young footballers by copyvio) with complete indifference to being reported, blocked and having his creations deleted. I just looked at Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Sir gidabout, and the names of the registered accounts in there are very Lathamesque. He was a Bolton fan, and this Sir gidabout sock edited the Bolton season article. Doesn't matter, and that SPI is stale anyway, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if this current timewaster was the same person. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 22:36, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

I wonder if he's also User:Football boys, who has spent years adding falsified managerial appointments and departures. See Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Football boys. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:18, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Sorry

Hi Matt, sorry if my edit of Paul Clement was not constructive and I deeply apologise for that.

Haris Medunjanin Netherlands U21 appearances

Hello Matty!

I seemed to notice that there are no apps displayed on Haris' page, so I looked it up on UEFA official site. I found three apps in 2006 and 2007 U21 tournaments, which I left on his talk page. In Haris' Dutch and German Wikipedia pages, it says that he has 4 apps and 3 goals. What do I do? HenryChinaski91 (talk) 17:42, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

Sir pratabout

Hello. Another few IPs from last night: 82.132.235.110, 82.132.239.94, 82.132.239.197

What approach would you advise on reverting? Remove any edit on sight? just remove unsourced rows? assume that if a source is present, it does actually verify the figures? I'm not sure how keen I'd be to check the sources, particularly if they cover multiple seasons and include goals for and against... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 19:27, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

Ta. If his edits are accurate and fully sourced, I'd leave them be. But his problem is he tends to only partially cite stuff, like only referencing results and not the start and end dates. Mattythewhite (talk) 19:36, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

Recent Mathias Pogba edit

Hello I saw that you reverted my recent edit of the page Mathias Pogba with the reason being - notable? I was wondering if I could put the edit back in as I think it is a notable fact as it is only his second goal of the season and brings a 14 game scoreless run to an end. Regards Partickthistle123 Partickthistle123 (talk) 19:40, 19 March 2016 (UTC) Hello I'd appreciate if you could reply thanks. Regards Partickthistle123 (talk)

If you added that the goal marked the end of a long scoring drought, that might justify its inclusion. But simply stating "He scored his second goal..." isn't encyclopedic. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:17, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

Ok fair enough. I was wondering if I can put it back in but with the part about the goal ending a long drought? Regards Partickthistle123 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Partickthistle123 (talkcontribs) 18:26, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

If was the first time (to the best of my knowledge) I had seen one of those, so I imagined we could do without the additional clutter. It did not cross my mind (stupidly) that, if it had been inserted, it had been so for a reason.

Sorry for the inconvenience --Be Quiet AL (talk) 00:11, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

We should include captions above tables per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Tables#Captions and headers, although they're still taking some catching on. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:20, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

Gerardo Martino

I've added sources for some of the games from the official Conmebol site (I'll keep adding more for the other games little by little). The most important source is having watched all of the games that are referenced though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.179.228.242 (talk) 07:43, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

West Bromwich Albion Edit

Source is the Wikipedia article already linked in the West Bromwich Albion article that clearly shows that the Black Country derby is Wolves vs WBA, Not Villa vs WBA Black Country Derby. NB - No idea how to link external articles but here is the bing search for Black Country derby that clearly shows its Wolves v WBA. https://www.bing.com/search?q=black+country+derby&form=EDGEAR&qs=PF&cvid=e396e3e402764fe49b3c2fab6a7587f7&pq=black%20country%20derby . — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.64.201.112 (talk) 23:29, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

Reverted back to my change but added a reference. Must say the fact that every rivalry page on Wikipedia lists it as WBA v Wolves should be reference enough but understand the insistence on an external ref! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.64.201.112 (talk) 23:38, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

List of International goals

Hi Mattythewhite. I want to talk about Javier Hernández in which you restored international goals that should not be listed in the articles based on this consensus from Wikipedia:WikiProject Football. When there is a notable list they can be created in separate articles such as List of international goals scored by Wayne Rooney, which you mentioned, but the list for "Chicharito" was deleted at this AfD as not notable. Have I missed some new discussion saying that consensus has changed? Qed237 (talk) 21:56, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

I believe there is more recent consensus to ascertain their notability, but I couldn't link you to a particular discussion. Perhaps @GiantSnowman: and @Struway2: know more? Mattythewhite (talk) 22:14, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
As noted at the Javier Hernández list AfD, there were later discussions than the one mentioned by Qed237 above, including this one and this one. There was also another one, in which The Rambling Man asked "Was there or was there not a consensus to remove lists of international goals from player bios?" and GiantSnowman replied "No, I don't think there was. It probably needs a RFC or something." To which TRM said "Ok, in that case, the edits which removed the lists from the bios based on archive 95 discussion really should be undone until a proper discussion is held and concluded."
If a proper discussion ever was held and concluded, I must have missed it. But if there wasn't, I'd agree that I see no consensus to remove. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:17, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
