Can I ask you to save the content of my article, which might be deleted, and copy it to my user page. Thank you very much! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Csaba Lucas (talkcontribs) 18:20, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

BOZ's autopatrolled right

Hi Moneytrees. Given the current large backlog at WP:NPP, I've been trying to find editors eligible for autopatrolled to ease the pressure. I came across BOZ (courtesy ping), who you pulled autopatrolled from in February following Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/BOZ. I'm not familiar with the format of CCI, but as far as I can tell the infringements are relatively minor, and BOZ has immediately acknowledged the mistake and helped with cleaning it up: so do you think it would be safe to restore autopatrolled? – Joe (talk) 17:03, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for recognizing me and speaking on my behalf Joe. Most of my new creations since the start of the CCI have been redirects, and this will continue for most of the rest of the year as I go through the remaining half of my CCI pages - I don't want to get involved in creating new articles until I have done my best to help clean up my mistakes. If you do believe I can be trusted enough to restore the autopatrolled right, I will always endeavor to use it responsibly. BOZ (talk) 17:27, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
@Joe Roe, To explain my methodology a bit, I see myself as having two choices to prevent further violations when I am actioning a CCI or someone with several warnings for copyvio; block or warn. In @BOZ's case, given their acknowledgement of mistakes and resignation as an admin (which I thought was very commendable), it was clear that they "got the message", so a block wouldn't be needed (I also thought one would be too excessive and mean anyways). That left the question of if there was anything else that could be done to lessen further copyright issues, which led to me revoking the autopatrolled right- not an easy decision. While the issues were on the smaller side, some had happened recently at the time and there appeared to be a lot of them. I've spot checked some of BOZ's recent creations and I found no issues I cared enough to point out. It's your choice on giving the right back. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 21:00, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
I totally understand why you pulled it. I would have done the same. But now I'm looking at the NPP backlog and being a bit less cautious. Even though you say you're dialing back your work on new articles BOZ, you're still a relatively prolific creator, so it really would help NPP. I will go ahead and re-grant. Thanks Moneytrees. – Joe (talk) 14:46, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
Thanks kindly for your fair assessment, both of you. :) BOZ (talk) 14:47, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

July 2022

Hi, Monetrees hope you're doing great. Humble request you to kindly have a look on an article named "Deoghar Airport". A user named "Alotorus" is adding a connecting flight/ layover flights in airlines and destination section of Deoghar Airport. I told him not to add this connecting flights as it against Wikipedia policies but he won't listen and he keeps reverting the edits done by me and some other user. The news citation attached by him clearly states that this is a connecting flight not the direct one's. Please kindly look into it. Thanks Flashthomsom (talk) 19:26, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

Is this user blocked

Is User:Peter1170 allowed to edit the article names space? Moxy- 03:39, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

@Moxy No, as far as I can tell. I made sure to block from article/draft when carrying it out, and it doesn't seem like they've been unblocked since. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 02:27, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
Then I think we have a problem their edits. Moxy- 03:14, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
@Moxy I'm confused- oh, do you mean this account, with the extra 0 at the end? That is indeed a problem, I never noticed they just up and created a new account after the last block. Thank you for informing me... Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 03:22, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

Copyvio Info

Hi, could you give me more information on your deletion summary for Ishan Bazaar Mosque (Akmeshit)? You said the site is under an ok license but the only copyright information I was able to see is that the site has "© 2022. All rights reserved" on the bottom per Google Translate. PHANTOMTECH (talk) 20:07, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

@PhantomTech, Yes, a large and complicated mess has been created here- the website that it was copied from was released under an ok license according to a VRT agent, but the talk pages were never tagged with VRT ticket permissions as far as I can tell, and as you note the website still says "all rights reserved". I'm currently sorting through all the pages and figuring out what to do- I've restored that one and will blank it for listing at WP:Copyright problems. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 20:14, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the update/info, good luck with the mess. PHANTOMTECH (talk) 20:21, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

CC double-check

Top o' the mornin' Moneytrees. Could I get a double-check on the revdel denial at Dementia 10/66? The article's page mentions a non-specific "Creative Commons Attribution Licence". The journal's about page says their articles are released under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 License, which I understand to be incompatible with Wikipedia. Am I misunderstanding? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 19:07, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

CCI questions

So, as I suggested on AN, I thought I'd do a bit of Martinevans123's CCI. I started off checking the diffs of The Moody Blues, one is formatting, one is a more recent copyedit and adding a source, and two are significant changes. Both the latter two bring up alerts on Earwig (here and here) which I'm certain are reverse copyvios, and a direct quotation from a source, which Martin didn't appear to add. So as far as I'm concerned, that article has a clean bill of health? Have I done the necessary work? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:45, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

@Ritchie333 Actually, this is an untagged revert, and this is just adding sections headers; while it looks like he's adding two big paragraphs, he's just splitting a larger one. So overall, Red XN no issue. Unlike a good deal of stuff at CCI, Martinevans is pretty detailed with his edit summaries, which should make this easier. And yes, those are mirrors- internet radio sites and silly blogs with images of skeletons (yes, it is an odd pattern... this is the fifth one I've seen) are common mirrors. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 22:21, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

Revdel check

Thanks for your tireless work at CCI. For Virginia House, was the revdel necessary? The original source is a Virginia government document, which according to [1] might be free. Ovinus (talk) 06:26, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

@Ovinus I remember that one being a total pain to deal with, and I initially thought it might be public domain. Looking around a bit more I came to believe it wasn't; the website currently says "Copyright © 2022. All Rights Reserved." and doesn't specify a creative commons license. I also know that NRHP applications are not always in the public domain either. I could be wrong, but signs seem to point to it not being compatible with our CC license. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 00:55, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for explaining! :) Another quick question from someone interested in CCI: why are some of them named with a date rather than the contributor name? Is it to avoid embarrassment? Ovinus (talk) 02:31, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

Question about copyright violations

Hi, you're the first person I think of in regards to anything copyright-related, so I figured I'd ask. In Sixteen Going on Seventeen... literally the first edit [2] (and many more throughout the years) include extenstive quotes of song lyrics. But the article was created in 2006. So I'm really hesistant to go, yeah, let's nominate this for G12. I've never really successfully used the TW revdel requests but I'm not sure it would work in this circumstance since everything goes so far back. Am I even on the track here? Thoughts? Clovermoss (talk) 02:35, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

@Clovermoss Song lyrics, in particular for well-known anthems and older-but-not-in-public-domain songs, are an ever-present pain and grey area. While song lyrics such as those should be removed as they run afoul of the Non-free content criteria, I don't believe they should be revision deleted as they are presented as a quote, if that makes sense. But just because something is quoted doesn't mean it can't be revision deleted; take the history of When the Lights Go Down (book), where I revision deleted the addition of what was essentially the entire contents of the book... I am of the opinion that something has to be pretty egregious to be revision deleted if it's a quote, and that the lyrics in the article are not egregious enough to qualify for a revdel. There are other admins who may disagree with me on this issue though, and if another admin actioned a revdel I would understand. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 05:36, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
Okay thanks. I don't know if this changes your opinion... but the lyrics I linked are literally the entire song, at least in the film. It's a very short song. I just wasn't sure if revdelling was something that was possible if the copyright violation was there when the page was created? I'm guessing it's possible the way you're talking about it though. I don't know much about the nuances of copyright violations and am still trying to wrap my head around some of that, so I appreciate your thoughts. Clovermoss (talk) 05:46, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
Clovermoss I slept on it and decided to revision delete it. It was a close call. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 18:32, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

Checkup

Hallo Moneytrees,

Would you be able to take a look please at the new articles I started and those were I contributed since we last spoke to check if everything is up to code? Sorry to bother you about this. Thank you. Gryffindor (talk) 16:07, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

@Gryffindor I did a spot check and found nothing I cared enough to remove. I thought there might be an issue at Jugal Kishore Choudhury with https://worldarchitecture.org/article-links/epnpc/remembering-jugal-kishore-chowdhury--a-legendary-indian-architect-on-his-101st-birth-anniversary.html, but it appears to be a mirror, so I have removed it. I would also recommend filling in your refs and making sure they aren't just bare urls; see Wikipedia:Bare URLs. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 00:07, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

Another question

Hi! Was examining the Hathorn CCI and saw the history of Tom Albert (trumpeter). A huge amount of content was recentishly added in Special:Diff/1059499841, with a rather wanting edit summary, and the article has had a lot of copyvio history, but I can't check whether the revdelled text is the same. Ovinus (talk) 07:54, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

@Ovinus Sorry for the delay, I've been focusing my energy on bettering myself over the last few days. I removed/rewrite some copied parts at Tom Albert, and I removed everything added in the Algiers edit; it was the same content previously removed, and the majority of it was still copied. Hey I am sorry I haven't been able to respond to your message, I got busy with work and didn't have time to check my Wikipedia request.

Below is what I have written for my article on Kharak Singh which was removed

"Having worked with Kharak Singh for 16 years Claude Martin Wade noted that the prince is a kind man of humane nature who was trusted and doted on by his dependants. Though other company men like Alexander Burnes and Henry Lawrence often dismissed him as an imbecile."

Spanish language CCI

Moneytrees, is there some way I should direct my Spanish-language fluency to help at Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/20220623? That is, would it be useful if I went through and did some preliminary step in checking for verbatim translation of sources ? What is the profile there? It appears likely that all new articles were copyvio, and need to be reduced to stubs. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:20, 27 July 2022 (UTC) @SandyGeorgia Thanks a ton for the offer to help out; I don't think an in-depth check from a fluent speaker would be worth the effort. Most of the bigger edits are unedited machine translation paste ins from various Spanish websites, and I've found them easy to spot so far by comparing the articles to machine translations of the cited sources. From what I can tell, there has been very little manual translation, just verbatim pasting. After the initial paste, the user seems to make some minor copyedits/reshuffles to make the machine translations more comprehensible, but often there's still at least some close phrasing left over. There is something odd about some citations; some of them seem to be copied from other articles (note inconsistent access dates) or are frequently reused despite questionable relevance. Despite that, they consistently cite the sources they copy from, so doing complicated reverse-translation phrasing checks through search engines shouldn't be necessary. I've seen this page cited a lot, but no copying from it yet. They also cite ecured.cu a lot, which seems to be the Cuban Wikipedia (Cubapedia?), but if I understand their policy correctly (section "Originalidad"), they are under a non-commercial license, so we cannot use content from them. The editor did attribute the copies they made between articles, but a good deal of what they copied between articles is stuff they originally wrote, so those edits will still need checking. And yes, the newer articles are mostly complete pastes- they'll need to be stubbed or G12d. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 04:38, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi there. I see you reverted several cut-and-paste edits at Algiers, New Orleans. I reverted the latest addition, but wasn't able to restore your edit, so I restored the last clean version on September 1, 2021‎. If you are able to have a look I'd appreciate it. Cheers! Removing an advert banner from page

Hi there, I put the finishing touches on removing any information about current products & all advertising-sounding language on the Freddie Figgers wikipedia page today, so I removed the banner (which also seemed to be set for the wrong date by whomever put it up there). I wanted to flag with you, because I believe you're the admin who has been on the page before, just to make sure that was correct.

Possible CCI for user:Bsskchaitanya

I have recently discovered and flagged an additional old copyvio from this user at Nawab of Banganapalle. Given that they were recently blocked for repeated copyright violations and the problems seem to be dating back to 2006, do you believe it would be worth opening a copyright investigation? Felix QW (talk) 11:53, 18 September 2022 (UTC)

@Felix QW Thank you for removing that; a CCI on that user is already open at Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/20211215. It's under a dated name for real name/privacy reasons. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 17:35, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
Thank you very much for the quick reply - I am very glad I asked here rather than posting there! Felix QW (talk) 18:36, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
@Felix QW Hi Felix, I have created that page more than a decade ago and I agree that I was involved in copyright violations. Now a days, I am doing my best in avoiding that violation whenever I edit articles. Can you suggest me what I am supposed to now with that article. Thank you very much. Helping out with copyright admin stuff

Hi. Are there specific areas that need attention in the copyright area? I'll try to focus on those items. Also, are there any useful tools I should be aware of? Cheers. Whpq (talk) 14:58, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

Whpq, sorry I've been really busy the last week or so. WP:Copyright problems and WP:Contributor copyright investigations always have a large back log, so don't hurt yourself over them. There's always some work to be done at Copypatrol and following up and keeping track of users with several warnings. I see you've already done some RD1 revdels, good work- if you didn't know, you can check multiple boxes at once by shift-clicking instead of clicking each box one at a time. It took me a few months to learn about that. If you're checking revdel requests, I've also found it useful to search for reports on the page at Copypatrol, which is quicker in finding a violation than using Earwig on the diff. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 18:43, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the tips. I did not know about the shift click, but I have since enabled a script to select the reported span of revisions in the revdel request although I still verify that those are the appropriate revisions to hide. Whpq (talk) 01:37, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

@Jorgecarbwood Phrases like "courageously committed themselves", "After 16 years of dreaming", and "unwavering support and dedication" are examples of promotional language. That sort of language is appropriate for a school website, but isn't on Wikipedia. If you want to edit the page, you have to appeal your block using the template on your talk page.
