Why shouldn't Sailor Moon be listed as one of the top numbered anime series? It's a consistent series in the same universe through a number of different seasons with a total of 200. Episodes. No where is there reason given for why she is not included. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.154.65.141 (talk) 04:43, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Stale racist IP

Hi

I don't know what to do, if anything, about this [1]. I realise its stale but I don't know if someone should be told about it anyway :¬)

Do I do nothing or is telling you enough lol - I have hidden the comment for now and it's in a drop down end of discussion box anyway so shouldn't be seen for now.

Sorry to bug you but after looking around for an admin for a while you were the only person I could find that had edits in the last 10 mins

Chaosdruid (talk) 04:13, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

The edit has been reverted. I don't know that we need to delete/hide the revision. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 01:55, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
If it has been reverted it wasn't done very well as it is still in there ?
I have just removed it [2]
What is the policy on racism from an ip - is there any point in putting a warning on the ip talk page as it's so stale? is there anything else that should be done? (which is still not really answered) sorry - not being a pain on purpose :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 03:45, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

I noticed on June 20th, you renamed User:Collectonian and revdeleted the logs of that renaming. Since renaming is usually considered public, I was wondering if you could explain the circumstances of that log deletion. Thanks, Prodego talk 04:30, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Comptel deletions

Hi

I was just doing some additions to Space/Astronomy topics when I found that a Comptel page was deleted back in May 2010 (and a COMPTEL redirect).

Can you please tell me if the Comptel was related to the Compton Telescope or some other topic ?

Thanks Chaosdruid (talk) 13:40, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Nope, it had nothing to do with telescopes. It was a corporate spam page. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 15:19, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for that - was just in case it was related to [3] as I am thinking about doing a series on Compton telescopes and the astronomical (hmmm...astronomics?) world just love putting anacronyms in everywhere. Hi, I hope you don't mind, but I've mentioned your/our work page to Varlaam, inviting him to comment on the talkpage if he wishes. After his latest set of reversions, I felt I had to address his mentioning people not using talkpages and emphasise that actually we would like him to join in discussions. Also, I didn't want it to seem like we're acting behind his back. I've also mentioned it to User:*Kat* at Talk:List of war films based on books (1775–1898) , as s/he seems interested in helping out. Now you're deleting revisions of just the discussion?
Don't you think you might be going too far? --Gwern (contribs) 07:06 2 August 2010 (GMT)
No, this is an issue with privacy (the editor in question is dealing with serious stalking issues stemming directly from editors here and morons who like to review them. Because of that, there is no reason to leave that information there for everyone to review. If you have a problem with protecting an editor's right to privacy, perhaps you need to have some people begin stalking you in real life? It's a very serious issue, and we're doing what little we can do to help stop any issues arising from people here questioning an editor who is doing everything according to policy as far as RTV goes. Please respect this editor's right to do so. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 07:11, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
What private information is revealed in those edits? I understand this editor has a general problem with stalkers. So do I. So do many editors. But general problem with edits or people being stalked doesn't justify a cloak of secrecy around an editor generally. Protonk (talk) 07:15, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
It's an issue with privacy, not information that is inherently private. There's a difference. Please just allow this editor to leave as quietly as possible without continuing your flag waving to draw attention to it. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 07:17, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
There is a difference, and that difference should dictate the nature and severity of the response. Honestly this editor has ensure attention will be drawn due to the thousands of edits needed to change the old name to the new. Thus providing a permanent connection between the two names, instead of either abandoning the account or just accepting the rename and moving on. But I'll reiterate. Deleting the whole discussion was counterproductive and inappropriate. The actions the user is taking to edit other editors' talk page comments in archives are not what is expected in CHU and should not be continued. Protonk (talk) 07:24, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Rev deletion

Here

I'm really going to have to object to this. I can't understand what the purpose of such action and I don't feel that WP:RTV justifies it. You haven't removed the ability of 'stalkers' to link that user to his past username (the consequences of this link I'm unclear on), and you have ensured that future non-admins who wonder why he is changing a large number of talk page archives to ask the same questions again. Instead of searching through the page history for past discussion, they will have to make a new section. On top of that, the BRFA on the subject exposed some immediate and serious disapproval for this user's tactics with regard to changing archives. Rather than make clear these objections you've deleted all record of problems.

Please consider reversing your action or refraining from using the tools with regard to this user. Thanks. Protonk (talk) 07:10, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Please see my comments above. Doing this has made it a little harder for that to happen, but people such as you, Gwern, and Perper are making it much harder for this editor to just vanish because you keep yelling and waving flags while the editor is making edits fully supported by policy. Please just allow her to finish these edits and vanish. The information is still available should it every be needed in the future. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 07:17, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Can't you see where we might have questions? And how those questions could have been answered by a: an accurate edit summary, b: the existence of a talk page question and answer or even just c: an immediate and understanding response. What we got was general comments about how what the user was doing was "supported by policy" (a dubious claim) and how we were making the stalking worse (a likewise dubious claim). Protonk (talk) 07:21, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
What right to vanish? WP:VANISH, both here and its origin on Ward's Wiki, apply to a user who, y'know, leaves. As Collectonian has not left, and is quite actively editing (at least, she seems to be, though the bot-edits make it hard to see), I am flummoxed as to how you think it applies.
If there is personally identifying information in Collectonian's userspace, I have no doubt that you will have deleted that (and much else). So then why are you deleting editors' comments? Nowhere in RTV does it say administrators may enforce changing all references to the vanished user even by deletion. Incidentally, RTV also says "user talks per convention are almost never deleted".
I disapprove of her wave of bot-edits - why can't she just redirect her old username to her new one, like I did, rather than touch thousands of pages and spamming who-knows-how-many watchlists? But Wikipedia:RTV#Vanishing_from_Wikipedia seems to permit that, even for accounts with >100k edits... --Gwern (contribs) 07:44 2 August 2010 (GMT)
Look, I never posted something on one of the now vanished pages saying that some idiot had put AnmaFinotera's personal information on the internet. That piece of information was posted by AnmaFinotera herself. Why is such a thing "vanishing"? To me, vanishing means disappearing, not leaving as many records as this hassle has produced -- records created not by Protonk, Gwern, or Perper, but by AnmaFinotera's own mass bot edits. By now, these edits are all over the place (I exaggerate slightly) and, I just noticed, AnmaFinotera's user page had 221 watchers. None of that is "vanishing." Furthermore, several reasonably experienced Wiki editors have lots of questions about the procedure used and about accountability for how RTV is achieved -- among other things. My edit summary for this comment says "vanishing with a loud bang" -- a bang caused by what I think were misleadingly labeled massive bot edits, not by three editors whose comments have been restricted to a few user pages. Timothy Perper (talk) 08:13, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Out of curiosity, I didn't know one could get the number of watchers of a page; I thought all there was was an admin-only Special: page which listed unwatched pages. How does one find that out? --Gwern (contribs) 08:29 2 August 2010 (GMT)
Follow the links: User page --> View History = Revision history --> blue link "external link" called "number of watchers." I don't know who is counting -- it might be a non-Wiki site. Hope it helps. Timothy Perper (talk) 12:14, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Science Fiction Portal Development

I'm planning on creating a science fiction portal in the next 2-3 months time period. I've been planning on creating it for some time now, but i've been working on other articles, which have soaked up the time. What i'm really looking for is advice in and around creating and maintaining it. Whats the article cycle time for each specific area of the portal, etc, etc, etc. Any help would be appreciated. scope_creep (talk) 00:05, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Have you considered working to improve the speculative fiction portal, especially the science fiction content there? I ask because the horror portal has basically died because of lack of content and people to work on it. I would love to have someone else helping with the speculative fiction portal, and we can always use more work on getting the portal to be more robust. I think it may be more effective to do this than to create another portal. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 05:28, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Third Largest Economy

Every major news paper from the Seattle times to the New York times has declared China the 2nd Largest economy because of the 1st and 2nd quarter results. It would take a rise of 10 percent or more for Japan to overtake China in 2 quarters for China not to be the 2nd largest economy in both Nominal and Purchasing Power. One of the front page articles on Yahoo declared China the 2nd Largest economy in the world in Both Nominal and Purchasing power. Should be update this info, or are we going to wait until 2011 in March when the World bank compiles the info. That would seem a little late for information we already know. Thanks for your feedback. Instead of changing to IMEMktg (which has been considered promotional), I'd like to change the username to IESEIME. Do I need to initiate a new request for this? Tcabanez (talk) 18:55, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
Yes, you will need to submit a new request. Also, you may want to avoid anything which has "IME" in it as that's part of the company name. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 05:13, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Wi/We

User:Unnecessary stuff has successfully introduced a radical change to Hepburn romanization concerning the obsolete wi and we kana, by removing their W's in the romanization tables as well as radically altering the rest of the page to get rid of any kana combinations he argued should not be included [4].—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 18:29, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Possible COPYVIO on protected Sea of Japan naming dispute

I was reviewing the recently added sources, and came upon a question. Do you know if official Japanese government publications are in the public domain, like U.S. government docs? If not, then we may have a problem; one part of what was just added is a verbatim copy of one of the sources, a pamphlet from The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The specific part I'm referring to in the article is the fourth paragraph of the argument section, starting from "the survey of historical maps conducted by South Korea..." and going to the end of the paragraph. That is a direct copy from the reference at the end of the paragraph: [5]. The copied paragraph is found on page 3, section 2.b. Whether or not it's a copyvio, I'll argue that we should change the wording (our own words are still usually better than copying public domain works), but if it must be a copyvio, I'll need you to take it out while the page is protected.Qwyrxian (talk) 05:25, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I just realized an easier solution for the moment might be just to put that part of the paragraph in quotation marks, at least while it remains protected. That way we aren't deleting information the other editor wants to include before discussing, but we at least avoid any potential Copy vio problems. Qwyrxian (talk) 05:39, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
I've placed it in quotes. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 06:36, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Please give some thought to my arguments in support of Elmor's proposal to rename Eulsa Treaty -- see here. Do I need to explain any part of this using different words?

Your closure of MZMcBride's RfA

My understanding of what MZMcBride said here is that he would like to see his RfA through to the end. Perhaps you should ask him? Thanks. Throwaway85 (talk) 05:21, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Is there any reason we can't allow MZ to just withdraw his RFA? He's well respected and NOTNOW really doesn't apply in this situation. Thanks. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 05:23, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

(edit conflict)Further: I don't think NOTNOW was at all appropriate. It's an essay encouraging newbies to run when they have more experience. Hardly relevant. MZMcBride is more than experienced enough to dictate the closing time of their RfA. sonia 05:25, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
I used it in the more literal sense. See below. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 05:30, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict) In this case, there doesn't seem to be any productive reason for allowing the discussion to continue. At this point, it is extremely unlikely the discussion is going to swing back the other way enough to make any difference. I do think NOTNOW applies as it's possible that, given a good long while where he applies the comments and suggestions given there, he might be able to pass at some point in the future. Not now, however. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 05:29, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Okay, fair enough. He has undone your closure so we might have to create some other rationale soon as sometimes neither of them fit. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 05:31, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I saw. I don't think that was a very wise action on his part, and only goes to validate the concerns raised by those opposing. Due to this action, I have now joined those opposing his candidacy. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 05:36, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

WP:BN is the place to discuss this; I've posted my thoughts here:Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard#Early closure of RfAs. Thanks. -- Avi (talk) 05:55, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Joe, can I ask if you are open to recall as a bureaucrat? Numerous recent actions of yours suggest to me that this role may not be suitable for you. In particular I see a trend to rush into a situation without full consideration. (This lack of confidence does not extend to other areas, where I believe you are an excellent editor.) — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:39, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Unbelievable. Joe's decision to close early was bold but excellent, as I'll explain on the crats notice board. FeydHuxtable (talk) 17:05, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
He's not in Category:Wikipedia bureaucrats open to recall. 67.136.117.132Also 174.52.141.13817:09, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Nearly a week and no response from Nihonjoe yet, so I'm going to ask again. Would you consider submitting yourself to a recall process to determine whether there is confidence in you continuing in your role as a bureaucrat? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:12, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry, your question got buried in the middle of this page. While some of my actions have been bold, I don't think any of them even come close to stepping over the line as far as abusing the tools. I see no reason to be open to recall, and I object to that process as it currently stands (as I've mentioned in multiple places). ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 15:24, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Please close again

WP:RFA/MZMcBride 4 currently relies in no way on feedback, which I believe makes this RFA pointless. Please consider re-closing it. Actually, due to his failure of recognizing WP:SNOW, you decided instead to vote on oppose in his RFA. /HeyMid (contributions) 17:32, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

As you've noted, Nihonjoe has participated directly; and thus, may not close the RFA. –xenotalk 17:34, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

blpunreferenced

Sorry to have occasioned this waste of your time, Joe: if I can never remember "blpunreferenced" then I should at least take the trouble to look it up.

So many articles here are so terrible. I've just laboriously created Shunji Dodo and while I'm fairly confident that it has no "BLP concerns" I'm equally confident that it doesn't start to answer the question "Why should I spend any of my time looking for or at this man's work? and in general is totally boring.

All we need, I suppose, is an influx of several hundred educated, conscientious, bilingual editors. (Dream on....) -- Hoary (talk) 05:07, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Uncontroverted edits

As you may recall, a recent comment alluded to my modest contributions at Ōei Invasion. The article's edit history here is clear. You may not know that I added two edits only:

  • diff 00:15, 17 September 2009 Tenmei m (15,386 bytes) (+ Nussbaum)
  • diff 00:41, 17 September 2009 Tenmei m (16,211 bytes) (+ Kang)

There were no bibliographic reference source citations before these additions.

The substance of the related text (with inline citation support) is narrow, factual, non-controversial. These diffs were unquestioned and unchanged in subsequent edits by 75.165.153.138, Pavel Vozenilek, Historiographer, 85.70.83.93, Kintetsubuffalo, Sennen goroshi, 59.16.129.180 and Colincbn.

These two non-contiguous data points allow no arguable inference to be drawn in this context nor any other. --Tenmei (talk) 05:34, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

There's nothing which told you to contact me to confirm anything. The notice left on your talk page said to respond on the changing username page to a question there. However, it's been almost a week since that notice was left on your talk page, so your request has been declined due to no response. You will need to file a new request there if you wish your username to be changed. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 04:06, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
