As a bureaucrat, would you consider assessing the consensus at Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship#Changing the Requests for Bureaucratship promotion threshold?? The request at Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard/Archive 22#RFB Promotion Threshold for a bureaucrat to close the discussion has not been addressed. My request to Maxim (talk · contribs) was unanswered because he is inactive and my request to The Rambling Man (talk · contribs) was not answered. Thanks, Cunard (talk) 23:35, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you, Nihonjoe, for closing the debate when the other bureaucrats were loath to do so. Would you add to your close guidance on what should be done to determine where to lower the bar? Thanks, Cunard (talk) 02:32, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
I added something. It's pretty obvious what needs to be done, though: another discussion to determine the new threshold. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 04:56, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for the addition. Per the discussion here, discussion about where to place the RfB bar will be postponed until after the two bureaucrat desysoping RfCs are closed. Cunard (talk) 19:45, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Nihonjoe, I have a euphoric announcement

Salutations, Nihonjoe!!! I hope that you are doing well for yourself because I have some good news . . . I am about to release an episode synopsis page out into the Wikipedia ether that I have exerted a gargantuan effort toward -- far more than what I have done with any of my other brain-children. Look forward to it!!!

Thanks for creating that. I've removed all the bizarre formatting characters you had scattered throughout it and moved the page to List of The Story of Pollyanna, Girl of Love episodes. I've also linked to it from the The Story of Pollyanna, Girl of Love article. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 06:09, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Nihonjoe:

Glad that you took me up on my invitation! I am having a hard time coming to grips with how it only took you eight minutes to respond; were you hanging around on Wikipedia or something?

Anyway, what do you think of my latest creation? (^_^)

Yes, I was online when you posted the first comment, so I looked into it right then. The list will need some work to bring it up to standards, but it's good to have something to start with there. Thanks! ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 19:47, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Pro-Wikipedia

Please help me think through a strategy to combat the contrived appearance of an WP:edit war. I propose to use words like this in all future edit summaries at Senkaku Islands and Senkaku Islands dispute:

This is a "PRO-WIKIPEDIA" edit. This edit is explained in detail and in advance on talk page

Please consider this pair of edits at Senkaku Islands dispute:

  1. diff 17:35, 19 July 2011 Tenmei (talk | contribs) (58,318 bytes) (Undid revision 440335859 by Lvhis pro-Wikipedia -- This revert explained in detail and in advance on talk page)
  2. diff 16:55, 19 July 2011 Lvhis (talk | contribs) (58,346 bytes) (Reverted 1 edit by Oda Mari (talk): This is a POV title. rv Japanese POV pushing. (TW))

The edit summary of Lvhis is an example of Framing (social science). IMO, we need to reject the false dilemma. Do you understand the meaning of the logical fallacy in a "false dilemma"?

Lvhis sets up a misleading pro vs con schema.

A better strategy is to emphasize a "pro-Wikipedia" foundation -- that is, to underscore that edits are not

In point of fact, an extensive edit history informs my belief that Oda Mari's interests are demonstrably "pro-Wikipedia" ....

The first and foremost question is: What is best for the long-term prospects of our collaborative editing project? What do you think? --Tenmei (talk) 18:21, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Signature

Hi, Nihonjoe; I just saw your comment at WP:BN and noticed that your signature seemed rather long: indeed it appears to be 355 characters, although WP:SIG specifies a maximum length of 255 characters. I feel slightly bad because it genuinely looks cool, but do you think you could see your way to paring it down slightly? Thanks, ╟─TreasuryTagprorogation─╢ 15:51, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Ⓧ, Ⓨ, Ⓛ et al.

Hi there. I noticed you reverted my edit on Japanese typographic symbols (I confess removing it altogether wasn't really appropriate). What I was referring with "disputable" is a contribution on the talk page (I believe you can read, so I don't have to explain it). I don't know much about the Japanese language and even less about local habits, usage of symbols and such. I assume you know much, much more about these things than I do (looking at your user page and considering I don't have any CDs with Ⓧ or Ⓨ on them). Hence I'd be really grateful if you could make this topic clear in the article. Thanks in advance. –Matěj Grabovský (talk) 18:02, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

I'm deeply sorry if I scared you or something. Though, I would really appreciate any kind of reaction (be it positive or negative). Thanks and I'm looking forward. –Matěj Grabovský (talk) 16:04, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Nihonjoe. I was asking to change the name "Abandashake" to "AbaNDaSHAKE". Blue links and red links in DAB pages

What the MOS:DAB says is: "Each entry should have exactly one navigable (blue) link to efficiently guide readers to the most relevant article for that use of the ambiguous term." An item without any blue link does not belong in the list. While a red link may be allowed, there must also be a relevant blue link for that item, one that links to an article that provides information/context for the subject of the item. A blue link to another article that also just mentions the man's name would not be sufficient. Please include such a relevant blue link in the item, or revert yourself. -- Donald Albury 14:45, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

You know, it's far less hassle to just create the damn article, which I have now done. Your interpretation is too narrow-minded and also incorrect. I'm not going to keep hashing this out with you, however, as there is no point. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 06:00, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken

I could use some help for figuring out the English translations for Derupa! Iruiru! and Dai Bakuhatsu!!!, the first two mini-series titles that spawned the manga's series. There are some scans of it on the net, if you don't have access to it. If need be, I can email you a link. I haven't found anyone whose tried to translate the mini-series titles. Thanks.Jinnai 18:45, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Well, the second is the easiest; it means "The Great Explosion!!!". The first, I'd have to see it in Japanese to be sure. "Derupa" is' probably the name of something or an odd way of saying another word. "Iruiru" could be an emphatic way of saying "Here! Here!" (as in "I'm here"). Do you have a link to a scan of the original Japanese? ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 20:07, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
[1]Jinnai 21:08, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I didn't realize those were the first two chapters of the manga (I actually have the whole series in Japanese). So, it looks like the "Derupa!" part is literally 出る and the sound of a puff of smoke (like you'd see a ninja use), kind of like "poof!". It's a hard concept to translate into English. It's the phrase used to cause something to come out of the magical cylinders Dai's mentor gave him. The イルイル! is the phrase used to cause something to be magically contained within the magical cylinders, so it basically means "In! In!".
ダイ爆発!!! basically means "Dai Bursts Forth!", implying that Dai begins his adventure (the whole ダイの大冒険 thing in the title of the series) in an exciting or boisterous manner. Hope that helps! ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 22:38, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Regardless, please consider using your administrator's tools to provide me with a copy of the missing threads.

I'm confused. Did I somehow indicate I was considering overruling that? I clearly told him I wasn't going to do anything and referred him to an arbitrator. Thanks for the link, though. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 03:22, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
You did nothing wrong, nor were you misinterpreted or misrepresented. The specific sentence with your name incorporated a link for redundant clarity, e.g., here (Elen of the Roads), (Sir Fozzie), here (David Fuchs), here (Qwyrxian). My words are plain:
Nihonjoe suggested here that I may need to ask an arbitrator to do this.
Summarizing: (a) I asked a question. (b) You gave a very clear answer. (c) I followed your advice. (d) No one has any justification for guessing that your comment was anything other than what it was.

Please note: My surprise was not the result of careless inattention. Qwyrxian also found this unexplained deletion "surprising" -- compare here. When the diffs are restored, I will try to explain why my reaction was immediate, unmistakable, forward-looking and practical. For now, the bottom line is that no one thinks you did anything deserving of criticism. --Tenmei (talk) 04:39, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

I'm tempted just to be "bold" (reckless): zap the user page, end the DRV, and tell the perp what's what. But it's a temptation I resist. So: the DRV can grind on, and when somebody closes it I'll attend to the user page -- or more likely I won't, because by that time I'll be away on vacation. Anyhow

I apologize for seeming harsh, but, I often have my patience worn thin by assorted wikidramas. Like, last night for instance, I was dealing with an editor on Talk:Behemoth who was insisting that a link to Fenrir be posted on the page because he thought the two beasts were similar. And it wasn't until I closed that thread that the editor understood that there needs to be other material beyond his own personal assertions to justify such an edit. I apologize for making that hypocrisy remark, I made a mistake, but, I wound up being admonished, while the anonymous editor is apparently content to be unable to go a single edit without making rude commentaries.--Mr Fink (talk) 01:39, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Anime News Network

Hello, my name is Jerry and I need some help. I'm presently in dispute with someone over the List of hentai authors article. The overall majority of the list has been deleted by a user because it is claimed there is a lack of reputable sources and the user believes only authors primarily known as hentai authors should be included. In dispute resolution, it was decided all deleted entries could be re-added provided they have reputable sources. I began using Anime News Network as a source and my entries were deleted again. Before I decide on my next course of action, I wanted to ask an administrator in the Anime Project if ANN is reputable. If not, who is? Thank you. Alucardbarnivous (talk) 08:41, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

The discussions at the wikiproject have been clear; ANN is reliable, the ANN Encyclopedia is not reliable. This shouldn't be too difficult.
Also, you are misusing the 'minor' edit feature. Adding a section to a talk page is not minor (and looking at your contribs, this is far from the first time you have done that). --Gwern (contribs) 16:46 3 September 2011 (GMT)
(Sorry for talk page stalking, Nihonjoe. Hope you don't mind.) I'd have agree with Gwern. One reservation though: The discussions regarding ANN have mostly focused on the site's encyclopedia. As far as I've seen, little to no evidence has been brought forward to prove the good reputation of ANN in general. If an editor asks for that kind of evidence -- which would be a perfectly reasonable and justified request -- you'd be well advised to ask for help gathering such evidence at WT:ANIME. Regards, Goodraise 17:13, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
No, the ANN encyclopedia is not considered reliable as it can be edited by anyone and does not list its sources (meaning the information there can't be verified easily). ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 07:44, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the responses one and all. I've been turned on to using Google Books as a resource by another editor. As far as I can tell, that doesn't seem to be in question. Alucardbarnivous (talk) 15:53, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
There are actually problems with Google Books. More than once, searching on obscure topics, I have run into what seem to be good hits... but on checking much more closely, I discovered that the restricted hits are only a window onto a print copy of Wikipedia! Apparently there are companies which simply print out bits of Wikipedia, perhaps on-demand, and some of those have made it into Google Books. Post-2000 anime hits need to be checked to make sure they are not these non-kosher sources. --Gwern (contribs) 16:23 4 September 2011 (GMT)

You have reverted my changing because you think that I have done of good faith. It's wrong. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is a Ghibli Film. In its original country, Japan (where you have lived during long time) Studio Ghibli considers "Nausicaä" as part Ghibli Collection and the first film from their studio. For example, Ghibli has begun to release Ghibli films in blu-ray and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is inside the catalogue. There are many references from several countries and continents (United States, United Kingdom, Japan (in its official page from Ghibli), France, Spain, Mexico, Germany, Canada, Australia, etc.) where "Nausicaä" is considered as part of Studio Ghibli films. Topcraft has no "Nausicaä" rights, Ghibli has it. What do you need to become convinced that "Nausicaä" belongs of Studio Ghibli and it's considered the first movie of Ghibli and part of the collection?--Blitz Lutte (talk) 20:42, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

This has been discussed many times. Nausicaa (released in 1984) is not a Studio Ghibli film because it was released nearly a year before Studio Ghibli was formed (in 1985). Therefore, it can not be a Studio Ghibli film no matter how you look at it. The reason it is in the Studio Ghibli library is because many of those who worked on it went on to form the studio after the film was successful at the box office. The rights to the film are actually owned by Hayao Miyazaki and Tokuma Shoten. You are simply incorrect on this issue. I'm not going to argue this with you as it's already been discussed multiple times. You can see the previous discussion in the archives of that talk page and the Studio Ghibli talk page. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 03:47, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
