Draft: Michael Nicholson part 2

Hey! Would you be kind enough and view my article Draft:Michael Nicholson#cite note-2 one more time and give me a feedback if this is better! Thanks! Stefani94 (talk) 16:07, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

There is nothing there to suggest that they pass WP:GNG I'm afraid, you should return any payment you have received. Theroadislong (talk) 18:40, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

Discogs not a reliable source…

Would a simple photo of the album cover/back/liner notes be acceptable? What about IMDB? Thank you for the guidance…while the article is still in draft format, I may be leaving Discogs there as a placeholder until I find acceptable replacements. HamiltonJoyce (talk) 20:57, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

@HamiltonJoyce IMDB is not a reliable source either but AllMusic is generally acceptable. S0091 (talk) 21:00, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

Ok, thanks, I’m not familiar w AllMusic, I’ll check it out. And a photo of the actual record or album cover if he is named? HamiltonJoyce (talk) 21:13, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

Photographs cannot be used as sources I'm afraid. We are looking for in-depth coverage with significant detail in independent reliable sources Theroadislong (talk) 21:41, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

@Ldm1954 it's not inappropriate, actually, and is quite true. Please read the linked material. Just because bad articles exist does not mean Wikipedia should accept more bad articles. Quite the opposite as standards have become more strict over time so what was acceptable years ago (or even a year ago in some circumstances) is not acceptable today. I am not Theroadislong @Jamieparrie but see both WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS and WP:ADVOCACY. I will say much as been written about the existing articles you listed, including scholarly peer-reviewed publications in addition to mainstream media so those are not nearly a fair comparison. Your draft is nothing more than a advertisement filled with "We". You have a great misunderstanding about Wikipedia, which is not interested in what a subject says or wants to say about itself. Scottish Castles Restoration Projects (Draft)

Dear Theroadislong

Excuse me for not being in touch for quite a while – in the past you very kindly approved three articles which I wrote. I now have an idea that an interesting topic not covered on Wikipedia is the restoration of Scottish castles. I know that might sound a bit esoteric, but actually it has been I believe a unique phenomena – over 100 ruined castles have been restored and turned into habitable dwellings. There is plenty of stuff on Wikipedia on Scottish castles, but not surprisingly it focusses on the historic aspects. Despite there being quite a bit of literature on this modern topic, it is not covered. I have of course put it up as a draft – it’s also quite incomplete, with no illustrations and just a few references yet, but I thought it best to ask your opinion first before going further. Many thanks ArchaicW (talk) 12:20, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

With sufficient sources I see no reason why Wikipedia couldn't have such an article. Theroadislong (talk) 13:28, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
Dear Theroadislong Thank you, I shall go ahead and put in the references, illustrations, links etc, and when I have done that I'll get back in touch for you to have another look. ArchaicW (talk) 15:30, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
Dear Theroadislong
Scottish Castles Restoration Projects (Draft): Many thanks for looking at the early draft of this article which I started. Following your general endorsement, I have now done more work on it, including putting in full published references, many links internal and external, illustrations and general tidying up. Apologies for now asking you to again have a look at it. If it all seems acceptable and in order to you, could you advise on what I should do next? Should I put it up for Review, or is it possible for you to accept it directly? Many thanks. ArchaicW (talk) 12:01, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Best to submit for review, good luck I would remove some of the comments that give it an essay feel first. Theroadislong (talk) 12:08, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Ah, thank you. I did try to make it as balanced and even handed as possible, but if you are reading it as having some bias I'll look over it again before submitting it for review. Many thanks ArchaicW (talk) 14:14, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Dear Theroadislong Thanks for comments - and you were right! Too many 'seems', 'may be' and 'possibly' for a factual report. I think I have edited all that out. Anyway, as you suggest, I've now posted the revised article for Review. Not sure if you want to have another look at it. Many thanks ArchaicW (talk) 17:31, 20 February 2023 (UTC)
Dear Theroadislong Apologies again for contacting you in respect of this Draft article on Scottish Castles. Since the last time I wrote on your Talk Page, I’ve done a bit more on the Draft. Also Lotje, who I think you know, has helped with the Draft and added some very useful information in the form of added illustrations and improved the source references. As you suggested, I did put the Draft up for Review, but that was now a couple of weeks ago, and nobody has looked at it. If the Draft is OK, it seems a shame not to have it ‘promoted’ where people could read it. Could I perhaps persuade you to have another look and if in agreement could you perhaps accept the Draft and move it to Article Space? Thank you very much. ArchaicW (talk) 12:14, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
Dear Theroadislong Thank you very much for your responses and so quickly. Naturally, I will have another thorough look over the Draft. You mentioned the ‘essay’ feel before and I did think I had removed that! The problem here might be that the article I think needs to present both sides of an issue, which I think is a bit difficult to ensure the right tone. I could have presented the article purely to describe the restorations without any reference to the opposition of conservationists, but I didn't feel that would have provided a correct balance? As for original research, I have certainly done no research into the subject – all the information is drawn from the published sources, again if there is a feel of that it is I think because of the problem of presenting both sides. However, I will most certainly study the draft again most carefully. Thank you ArchaicW (talk) 13:43, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
Dear Theroadislong
Hope I can borrow another minute of your time. I am still working on improving the Draft article, but in the meantime, I wondered if you have a moment to look at this British Library reference to the Inglis PhD, containing the Abstract of her PhD. https://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.578803
I think it explains why I felt an Article on this topic was relevant. Not being an architectural historian, my draft cannot have that depth of expertise, but I hoped that by having this article on Wikipedia, others more expert than me will contribute to it.
The other thing I have been doing is studying the Article ‘Wikipedia: No Original Research.’ I have as you would have noted made several references to the above PhD, and as I would read that Article a PhD would be considered a Primary source? Yet surely research of this nature can on occasion be relied upon? Inglis’s PhD was supervised by Professor Charles McKean, one of Scotland's most eminent architectural historians in his time. Before the PhD being awarded, it would as well have been examined by an independent third party also of ‘Professor’ status.
I have also referenced a Michael Davis book twice and here I would have to say that this book falls into the ‘self published’ category. However, the author is an established expert on the topic and I have been I believe careful to only refer to this source when there has been corroboration in his text to other sources.
When I have completed further edits, I hope it will be OK if I let you know again. ArchaicW (talk) 17:45, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

Thank you

Hello Theroadislong, and thank you for your calm and informed contribution to the dramatic A&L discussion. Your level-headed voice was much appreciated. OK I appreciate the rigour of Wikipedia reviewers, I do... BUT it is one thing to push back on an edit but to say this:
  • " Comment: I can't see any independent reliable sources here? Theroadislong (talk) 18:34, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
simply demonstrates that you have not actually read the entry before rejecting it. Please explain to me how the Financial Times (one of the largest publications on the planet) and The Oxford Companion to Wine and multiple other independent online publications are note independent or reliable? BHC11 (talk) 18:55, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
The sources need to be about her and in significant detail the The Oxford Companion to Wine link just mentions her as a contributor it says NOTHING about her, I can't see the Financial Times one because it is behind a paywall, does it have details about her rather than by her? About My Recent Article

Hello Theroadislong,

Recently, you reviewed a submission of mine numerous times, and although I cannot submit the article for review again, I am still unsure how I wasn't meeting all of the criteria for a Wikipedia page. GMorris419 (talk) 18:44, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

Draft: Gary Hutton

Hi @Theroadislong,

Gary Hutton is a creative professional and WP: NARTIST was an oversight.

The addition of Authority Controls significantly establishes Gary's notability by stating an International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI) and Library of Congress Control Number (LCCN; ongoing and may take a while to reflect in their Online Catalogue) via Gary Hutton - Wikidata here: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q116965309

What are the next steps for the Wiki's approval? SKCOTT (talk) 07:22, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

Sources are appalling where they exist and still zero evidence of notability. The next step is to find [[WP:RS|reliable sources that cover him in depth. Most of your content has no sources. Theroadislong (talk) 07:44, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

You need to understand what constitutes an independent source, his own photographic work is not an independent source where ever it is published! Theroadislong (talk) 14:59, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
did you look at the telegraph article?
Just thinking what to do next, this is a photographer published in the NYT, WSJ, and exhibited in Saatchi gallery. Surely there should be an entry for him here? 92.185.127.36 (talk) 15:06, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
No not necessarily, unless multiple, reliable unconnected sources have discussed him in depth. Theroadislong (talk) 15:10, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
The three sources are unconnected publications? 92.185.127.36 (talk) 15:12, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
This [2] is clearly connected, they have published his photographs, it is what we call a primary source. Theroadislong (talk) 15:21, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

Aude de Kerros FR->EN (and generally : producing a version in an alternative language)

Hello

I endeavoured to tranpose from French a page on artist and art critic Aude de Kerros.

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aude_de_Kerros#Liens_externes

I was explicit that what I submitted did not have links yet (not being a frequent contributor, I am not allowed to make direct edits). The editing environment is very basic.

I was clear that I based the EN text on the FR text, but simplifying and rationalizing it.

I sent the draft for advice.

What links should be added? Commercial pages about the books?

What else should be changed?

Phronesis (talk) 08:16, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

The English Wikipedia has much stricter guidelines for inclusion, each and every substantive fact will require a citation to a reliable source, see WP:BLP and WP:YFAS for help. Theroadislong (talk) 09:03, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

Draft:Asraman

In every turkic historical text Asraman is mentioned. So if i can't use wiki for reference can you tell me what to use. Nasty32 (talk) 04:22, 21 March 2023 (UTC)

You need to find independent reliable sources NOT Wikipedia, you have re-submitted it again with no reliable sources which is disruptive and will not help where did the content come from, simply cite the source. Theroadislong (talk) 08:35, 21 March 2023 (UTC)

Request on 13:48:06, 22 March 2023 for assistance on AfC submission by Arminius4

Thank you for your message. I have already read the requirements for new Wikipedia before submitting the article, so the generic information didn't help me to understand the concrete reason for the rejection of the stub/draft. In particular, there are uncountably many similar articles, which are deservedly on Wikipedia that are incredibly similar to the proposed draft, see Kruzno_(board_game) as an example. I want to add the article, because of my work on the page Games played with Go equipment, where I want to add this game. However, it does not yet exist on Wikipedia. It would also be an interesting addition to the List of abstract strategy games and enrich Wikipedia as an encyclopedia as a whole. The cited source is definitely independent, and I made sure to reformulate everything, so that there is no copy/paste. So please reconsider or advise what exactly needs to happen to get the draft accepted.

Arminius4 (talk) 13:48, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

You will need to find at least three independent, reliable sources that discuss the game in significant detail, your single source is not reliable as it appears to be user edited. Also see other stuff exists.Theroadislong (talk) 13:52, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

Dear Wikipedia editor,

I am writing to request your permission to edit the Wikipedia articles on “Buoyancy” and “Patents”. I have some scientific issues with the current versions of these articles, and I would like to share my views and evidence with you.

First of all, I believe Wikipedia should be the place to spread science and sound thinking. Wikipedia should allow people to modify and edit well-discussed error pages based on sound scientific theory and facts.

Secondly, I don’t think the articles in the “Buoyancy” and “Patents” sections are correct. Especially the “patent” part has violated the rights and interests of relevant patent holders. I have explained my reasons and sources in detail on the Discussion page of these articles a year ago, and no one objected, so I think my point is valid.

Therefore, I respectfully ask you to review my arguments and evidence, and allow me to remove the “buoyancy” and “patent” parts from these articles. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Sincerely, CAIVY (talk) 20:59, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

There is no article titled Patents? You are mistaken if you "believe Wikipedia should be the place to spread science and sound thinking" that is NOT what Wikipedia is for. You say "I have explained my reasons and sources in detail on the Discussion page of these articles a year ago" I can't see this? You will need to explain your self better sorry. Theroadislong (talk) 22:33, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
Are you referring to sections in the Perpetual motion article? Theroadislong (talk) 22:40, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

The principles of identifying perpetual motion machines:

In thermodynamics, an isolated system is a system that does not exchange energy or matter with its surroundings, while a non-isolated system exchanges energy or matter with its surroundings.

A perpetual motion machine is an isolated system.

In any isolated system, one cannot create new energy.

There is a scientific consensus that perpetual motion in an isolated system violates either the first law of thermodynamics, the second law of thermodynamics

Thermodynamic system

Thermodynamic systems can be divided into three types: open systems, closed systems, and isolated systems. Open systems can exchange matter and energy with the outside world, closed systems can exchange energy with the outside world but not matter, and isolated systems do not exchange matter or energy with the outside world.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermodynamic_system

Energy conversion

Energy conversion, the transformation of energy from forms provided by nature to forms that can be used by humans.

https://www.britannica.com/technology/energy-conversion

Devices that obtain energy from the sun and the earth belong to non-isolated systems, that is, they have heat exchange or material exchange with the external environment. In thermodynamics, an isolated system is a system that does not have heat exchange and material exchange with the external environment. Non-isolated systems require external factors to maintain their effects.

Facts about energy conversion devices - "non-isolated systems"

Devices that get energy from the sun

Solar energy uses the sun’s light and heat to generate renewable or ‘green’ power.

The Sun is the most powerful energy source in the universe, with its internal temperature and pressure caused by its massive mass and gravity.

The process of light and heat production in the sun:

Nuclear fusion reaction that occurs inside the sun. Nuclear fusion is the process of synthesizing four hydrogen nuclei into one helium nucleus under extremely high temperature and pressure, releasing huge light and heat energy.

Wind Energy

Wind is caused when the earth's surface is heated unevenly by the sun. Wind energy can be used to generate electricity.

https://www.nrel.gov/research/re-wind.html

The earth is a huge source of energy, providing many forms of renewable energy.

Hydroelectric Energy

Hydroelectric energy is a form of renewable energy that uses the power of moving water to generate electricity.

https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/hydroelectric-energy/

Gravity Light

The GravityLight converts potential energy that is stored in a weight into light.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GravityLight

Tides

Gravity is one major force that creates tides. In 1687, Sir Isaac Newton explained that ocean tides result from the gravitational attraction of the sun and moon on the oceans of the earth (Sumich, J.L., 1996).

https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/education/tutorial_tides/tides02_cause.html

Hydrostatic pressure, the pressure exerted by a fluid at equilibrium at a given point within

the fluid, due to the force of gravity.

https://www.edinformatics.com/math_science/hydrostatic_pressure.htm

Buoyancy is the tendency of an object to float in a fluid. All liquids and gases in the presence of gravity exert an upward force known as the buoyant force on any object immersed in them.

https://byjus.com/physics/buoyant-force/

Overall,Light, gravity, buoyancy and pressure are forces/energy of non-isolated systems.

Gravity, buoyancy and pressure are the results of interactions between Earth and other celestial bodies. They are forces/energies of non-isolated systems that require external factors to maintain their effects. In thermodynamics, an isolated system is a system that has no heat exchange and material exchange with the external environment, while a non-isolated system has heat exchange and/or material exchange with the external environment. The story I have written in

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ajit_Singh_Palit is derived from the sources I have cited. The sources are not 'mention of subject' , they are an actual source of the subject. ਗਿਆਨੀ ਪੁਰਸ਼ (talk) 13:59, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

Your draft gives little indication of what makes them notable? Theroadislong (talk) 14:02, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
no , those sources contain this story. They are books , you may check them if you please ਗਿਆਨੀ ਪੁਰਸ਼ (talk) 14:12, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
Yes, but your draft doesn't say what he is notable for, we don't have articles about everyone. Theroadislong (talk) 14:41, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
He is notable for being adopted son of Guru Gobind Singh and Mata Sundari , that's why he is known as Ajit Singh 'Palit' . Palit means adopted. ਗਿਆਨੀ ਪੁਰਸ਼ (talk) 15:30, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
And guess what? Guru Gobind had 2 adopted children and both of them don't have a wikipedia page while all his 4 biological sons have one dedicated for each. ਗਿਆਨੀ ਪੁਰਸ਼ (talk) 15:33, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
Being the son or adopted son of a notable person doesn't necessarily make them notable too? Theroadislong (talk) 15:38, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
th ਗਿਆਨੀ ਪੁਰਸ਼ (talk) 01:07, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
The page of Mata Sundari also mentions him. Mata Sundari had emotional attachment towards him as he was her son. He is also notable for being a courtier of Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah and being a pretender to the guruship. ਗਿਆਨੀ ਪੁਰਸ਼ (talk) 01:10, 2 April 2023 (UTC)

Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident with which you may be involved. Thank you. This was concerning the COI for the editors at Cesare Angelini (author) AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 19:00, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

Draft:Linda Ravin Lodding

First of all, thank you for your quick response to my drafts. As you probably understand, this is my first attempt to create an article.

If you have any more suggestion on what i need to add, it would really be appreciated! StureGT (talk) 21:12, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

May you remove COI from my article?

Dear @Theroadislong:,

I created the Cesare Angelini (author) article.

I have been studying Cesare Angelini for a lifetime, it is my passion. I don't make money. I work for free just to bring his knowledge a little into the world of literature.

I declared my cultural (only) COI in the talk of the article.

I don't think there are problems of neutrality as. In the article I didn't make apology for Cesare Angelini, I only reported his life, works, with the support (see bibliography) of people recognized in Wikipedia.

But yesterday - with the suggestion of other users - you put the COI warning in the article. The non-neutral notice discredits the work.

Given the neutrality of the article, the great work I did writing it, all in favor of Wikipedia, may you remove the COI warning from the article?

Thanks for your attention. FabiusCesareAngelini (talk) 12:59, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

No, there appears to be multiple conflicted users there, I will leave it for other users to comment first. Theroadislong (talk) 13:03, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

Decline or reject?

Hello Theroadislong! I have a bit of an odd question for you. When I come across a draft that should be speedy deleted under G11, is it better to reject it as being contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia (WP:NOTADVERT) or simply just decline it under the reason of it reading like an advertisement? ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:03, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

I more often just decline as an advertisement, as I feel guilty at the number of rejections I would otherwise mark. Theroadislong (talk) 14:49, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

Draft Page for Russell James (author)

Sorry to drag this out but I need some help, please. I’ve been trying to set up this Wikipedia page for the writer Russell James and have now removed anything that could be seen as a selling link. With luck, this will be enough to get the page accepted! Previously I kept being asked for more verification. This seemed strange as it seemed to me that the submission already had at least as much if not more confirming references than on several entries already on Wikipedia – e.g. those for comparable crime writers such as Kate Ellis, Michael Jecks, Natasha Cooper, Mike Ashley, etc. Russell James is hardly unknown; he has been a published writer for some thirty years, is a past chair of the Crime Writers Association, is an elected member of the prestigious Detection Club, and has written some two dozen books. I have supplied references to the two main reference books on British crime writing, both of which give him stand-alone biographies and appreciations. What more can I do? Penroseabc (talk) 16:20, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

We are not looking for verification of anything, we are looking for sources that discuss him in significant detail and show how he passes WP:NWRITER. Please also see other stuff exists. Theroadislong (talk) 16:42, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
As I say, I have supplied references to the two main reference books on British crime writing, both of which give him quite long stand-alone biographies and appreciations. Surely a writer with his record - 26 published books, ex-chair of the Crime Writers Association etc. - is at least as qualified for an entry as other writers on Wikipedia with less information on their pages. Is there some animus against him? Or is there something missing from the draft page? Penroseabc (talk) 13:47, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
Penroseabc If you think Draft:Russell James (author) now passes WP:NWRITER simply re-submit for review, I will not review it again, but leave it for another user. Theroadislong (talk) 13:55, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. Will do. Penroseabc (talk) 16:06, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

About the Article on Grigori Grabovoi

Thank you for your reply. It is about the desicions and how the government had to compensate him for the illegal detention. It sounds like an interesting and educational topic to be added, I believe.

The article is from a reliable source. I am doing more research,

This is my debut, I would like to contribute to other articles as well.

Thank you for the welcoming.

Courtesy link User:Truthbetold27/sandbox being an "an interesting and educational topic" doesn't necessarily make it a notable topic though. Theroadislong (talk) 15:37, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
If I understand correctly, it wouldn't be suitable for a standalone article, correct? I am not intended to create a standalone article. Not now that I'm just starting to learn how to contribute on Wikipedia.
My intention is to add missing information on the article, since I could not find it in it, it is referred to in the link I found and I want to contribute somehow.
What do I need to do to get it added, please?
Thank you in advance. Truthbetold27 (talk) 16:31, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
