Draft:Scottish Castles Restoration Projects

Dear Theroadislong

Hope it’s OK to consult you again about this Draft article.

But first, could I just say something? There was a very interesting article about Wikipedia in the UK ‘Daily Telegraph’ a week or so ago. I am hardly the biggest contributor to Wikipedia, https://en.wikiscan.org/user/ArchaicW, with three original articles and quite a few additions to existing articles, but apparently as a result I am in the top 5% of contributors!

As a measure of involvement, I’ve also spent quite a bit of my own money on buying books and quality illustrations to help with my contributions to Wikipedia (and also made an annual donation.) So this Draft article is not a paid for ‘one off’ trying to promote some unknown person or commercial company. I do feel that Wikipedia could do more to encourage people like me.

Anyway, at your suggestion, I put this article up for Review two months ago – and since then nobody has looked at it! I suspect this is because it has your name above it, so other reviewers are reluctant to comment.

To be honest I’m a bit puzzled. On the basis of you previously approving my three articles, after I had written the first draft, but specifically without adding any references or illustrations etc, I asked if you would look at it. You replied as follows:

“ With sufficient sources I see no reason why Wikipedia couldn't have such an article. Theroadislong (talk) ”

I must say I took that to mean that, subject to adding those sufficient sources, you would accept the article? I therefore added, as I had intended anyway, a series of good references, eg in books published by Historic Scotland staff etc, and illustrations.

I re-submitted this to you, at which point you said it read too much like an essay. Re-reading it with that comment in mind, I could see there were too many ‘seems’ and ‘maybe’ phrases, so I have removed those and worked to make the Draft much more factual.

You also suggested that I put the Draft up for Review, but, as above, nobody has looked at it. Could I ask you therefore now to have another look? I’m sure you are very busy, but if you still think the draft article is not balanced enough, could you please advise me on exactly what you think is still wrong? If you have no time to do that, could you perhaps recommend another reviewer who might be in tune with this draft article?

I do feel that this article is a useful contribution to the whole ‘Scottish Castles’ field and not covered elsewhere. If the article is published, I feel sure others will come along and add more detail.

You’re absolutely correct here that it has been deleted multiple times which can be clearly seen from the deletion logs. As the Ratopati, Lokantaar, Nepallivetoday, republica (as their staffs are mentioned as a contributor) but not an actual contributor platform which we can see from depth-review, The Hindu are WP:RS and national medias where it has been covered that the singer has won awards and has toured internationally , ABC Nepal TV is national TV, Taha Khabar national media of Nepal, BBC : The Cultural Program is actually a radio show which can be seen so, believe it passes the above criteria of WP:NSINGER for me but I’m not sure about you as you know very well than me I believe. Personally, I do think that the stories in the books are giving an in-depth information about the company. Besides that, I added a couple of secondary sources, which might not be independent, but they are still considered secondary. I really wish to receive a proper feedback, which I am not getting already for a month, and it is really discouraging me from counting to edit in Wikipedia. I wish I was able to share the information in the books, but I cannot do so because of copyright restrictions. I would also love to cite the sentences and the paragraphs where it is mentioning about Gray and Sons. (talk page watcher) @Sujit Tiwary: The most obvious thing is the use of external links in the body, which aren't done on Wikipedia articles. If they must exist, they have to go in their own section at the bottom of an article. The references you're using link to the site's home page instead of to whatever page is supposed to link to, and even then, they seem like primary sources, which do not establish the subject's notability as defined on Wikipedia.
I find the use of promotional language to be the number 1 reason why your draft would not be accepted. Wikipedia is not a place to tell people how Tiwary:

From his early childhood he was a very brilliant student and was also a very social person and attracted towards environment. He always wanted to do something for the betterment of the society.

The use of gratuitous boldface isn't needed.

How to choose an actor's picture to upload

Hi there, I spotted that you have corrected my article/given some good suggestions. Hopefully it's headed in a good direction.

I wanted to ask whether you have any tips on which pictures to choose for an actor's wiki page - are there any type that I should avoid, or any recommended ones? I am keen to find one for both the Alice Fearn's page I am working on, as well as the one for Grace Mouat.

I just saw your message concerning Paid editing. I am not being paid to create this article. Rather, I am a friend of a few players on the team. I noticed that the league page showed all the teams in red. So, I decided to create this page for them, so they can get more exposure. Handball is very small in India. This is a HUGE opportunities for all the players. Every single one of them has full time jobs, in addition to their sports endeavors. However, the league is not managing this well. If I were paid by the team, I would rather spend my time creating a website for them, which they also don't have; or at least manage their social media accounts. Wikipedia does not have "company profiles", not a single one. Wikipedia has articles, typically written by independent editors wholly unconnected with the topic. The recent edits that I made (in response to comments that the article lacked references) were four in number. I have made a start on requesting that someone else make the edit for me, and have removed the offending references. Are all four to be regarded as cases of COI? In the "Research" section, all I have done is add references to published sources that are related to articles that are already in Wikipedia. Hi Peter. I think you might be misunderstanding; it's not that the specific references you added had issues (and I've restored them to the article for now). I think Theroadislong just happened to notice that the article has been contributed to in large part by you, which can be a sign of a poor article. You should make edit requests in the future as mentioned rather than edit the article directly, but that doesn't mean every contribution you have made has to be removed. At some point in the future, another editor will assess the article to see if it's particularly biased due to your contributions (at a glance, it doesn't seem so to me), make any necessary changes to adhere to Wikipedia policies on neutral point of view, notability, reliable sources and due weight, and remove the COI notice. Contradiction

In the Evolution page, one sentence claims the following: "Despite the estimated extinction of more than 99% of all species that ever lived on Earth, about 1 trillion species are estimated to be on Earth currently with only one-thousandth of 1% described.", while the next section claims something different: "Estimates on the number of Earth's current species range from 10 million to 14 million". Overall, just by making a small Wikipedia post. It's supposed to be a quick and easy A, really. So here are the main parts of the assignment:
1. Why did you select this article to create or improve? What is the larger historical significance of this entry, and how does your work make it better?
2. How did you improve/create this entry and bring it to “good” status? Why did you choose to intervene in these ways?
3. How does your work show your skills completing historical research? In highlighting Latin American Joy or Impacts To Your Community?
4. How did you shape your edits to meet the Wikipedia community guidelines (5 Pillars)
5. What, if any, interactions did you have with other Wikipedia editors?
You are required to meet all of the "regular" specifications, but the total length and number of sources is higher:
compose at least five new paragraphs with at least three internal wikilinks each (around 5000-6000 characters or 750 to 1000 words total)
incorporate at least four reference sources that meet Wikipedia's standards for evidence (footnoted in the “Sources” section)
include an image from Wikicommons (where appropriate - if not, make sure to explain this in your project memo)
So, this really is mostly what the assignment revolves on and how I'm getting graded.

This is an encyclopaedia which has guidelines for inclusion of topics, your topic needs to pass the criteria at WP:NORG and it's not clear how it does yet. Help Needed - Could interviewing a person be legible part of the research?

Dear @Theroadislong, thanks for the review!

I am trying to write a biography article on the movie producer, but I have problems with resources. Basically, iMDB is the industry standard for researching what these people have done in the past. Moreover, it is pretty tough creating a page for just one member of the crew on the movies - as most journals usually publish articles highlighting cast members, although sometimes there are more than 300 people working together on just one film. That's one of the reasons, actually the most important motivation for me to start creating articles for other members as well.

I deleted one of the resources, as I agree it's not that reliable, but not sure what can I do in order to make the article stronger as I spent a lot of time interviewing the person. Could that be somehow part of the reference?

See WP:IMDB and more generally reliable sources, interviews are NOT considered reliable and if you are interviewing them, then you have a conflict of interest which you will need to declare. Wikipedia summarises what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about a topic, showing how it meets Wikipedia's special definition of a notable topic if those sources don't exist then we can't have an article.

Regarding my sandbox article: Urban Photography
