2. Round table for participants to say what you’re working on[edit]

  • Ambrosia10 - On the 14th of November I presented to a biological course of about 10 students at the Department of biology at Tennessee Tech University https://www.tntech.edu/cas/biology/ about Wikidata and Bionoima. This course is one of the trial implementations of the undergraduate CURE course we are collaborating on creating.
  • Wainuiomartian - Marshelec asked me to add the Flying Boat Jetty to Wharves in Wellington Harbour but in doing so I wondered what a Braby pontoon was and after invetigating I ended up adding that to Floating dock (jetty) and am now wondering if the flying boats mentioned on Evans Bay need their own page? Added a little to Okains Bay Museum and National Iwi Chairs Forum that other Welly editors are working on. Currently writing an article about the Petone to Ngauranga cycleway.
  • Gertrude206 (talk)- has been working on the Tongariro Power Scheme. Lots to do on the environmental and cultural impacts of the scheme but there is lots of source material in the Waitangi Tribunal and Environment Court documents. It will spin off into the articles on the iwi, rivers, Turangi and Italian New Zealanders.
  • Noracrentiss - has been working on Turnbull 2 Names mix and match; more "sleuthing" related to a Wikisource project; helping Quiltphase with drafting a grant application to WANZ for a Wikicommons/photo project.
  • Quilt Phase discussed the Photography event that they are considering organising and applying for WANZ funding for. Received feedback from the group.
  • Einebillion - have been working on Committee Chair business for Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand including updating the strategy document and how we work. Looking to circulate that out to members for commentary and feedback by the end of today. Doing one on ones with Dianne, our executive advisor. She's making progress on getting the website up and running, getting the Golden Bay meetup and the committee business planning session organised, ordering pull up signage, and learning the secretarial duties. Did some mix and match on the new Te Papa parties id data set. Also caught up with Auckland Museum people at the NDF conference
  • Avocadobabygirl (talk) - reposted the Te Papa people IDs mix and match set. Has been working with other staff to 360 the data and ingest the results back into Te Papa's collection information system. Working on getting spider type specimen images up into Wikimedia Commons. National Services Te Paerangi is currently notifiy organisations that they are adding the New Zealand museums dataset into wikidata.

3. Progress on Action Points and future events[edit]

If you're an event organiser, don't forget to add your event as a program to the Campaign Dashboard. The Dashboard is a key tracking tool for reporting back to Wikimedia Foundation and will help us ensure that we get funding in future years. If you are unsure how to add programs to the Campaign dashboard you can find further information here on how to create a new event dashboard and how to link it to the overall campaign dashboard. Alternatively contact: Ambrosia10 (talk) on her talk page for help.
If you're interested in organising a Wiki event, support funding is available from Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand. Contact admin @ wikimedia.nz for more information on how to apply. It's pretty simple!

  • Otari-Wilton's Bush event ideation and organising Leonard Cockayne House has been reserved for 16th and 23rd March. 23rd March is on the weekend of the annual WikiCon that is happening in Auckland this year. Discussion about concerns on who will take on organising this event. We need an organiser! Group agreed to move the dates to autumn. Noracrentiss will talk with Ambrosia10 about organising resource. WANZ application could easily include an event organiser but we need someone to lead it and shape the agenda of the event.
  • Photography event Quilt Phase developing an application for funding to WANZ.
  • WITCon (a conference organised by Victoria University of Wellington Women in Tech) was run on Saturday 18 November at Rutherford House, VUW Pipitea campus in Wellington. See this link for further information and here for registration. Did anyone go? No one attending this meetup attended.
  • New Zealand Wikidata Thesis Project aims to get New Zealand dissertations into Wikidata. Project Page, Project Dashboard. There is a google spreadsheet of theses authors with Wikipedia pages who need their theses adding to their page if folk want to work on this during #1Lib1Ref. There is also a video on how to add thesis to people's pages. This work is ongoing and could use more editors to help out.
Project Contacts: DrThneed, Giantflightlessbirds and Ambrosia10
  • Parliamentary Library The library has had it's Wikipedia guidance for staff approved. Any update on support for project?
