Agenda[edit]

  • Introduction to meet up by organisers
  • Round table for participants to say what you’re working on and if you need help with anything - bring along your Wikipedia, Wikidata, or Wikimedia problems
  1. User:Ambrosia10 informed the group of a possible wiki-editathon that is tentatively dated for 16 November, another confirmed editathon on endangered plants at Te Papa on 24 November, and a workshop on wikidata run in association with the National Digital Forum conference at Te Papa on 18th November.
  2. Quilt Phase has completed as much mix'n'match that is possible for New Zealand film and is now going through adding new material. Has sourced a list of feature films produced in New Zealand since 2013 and is working through that list and also the list sourced from the New Zealand Film Commission of feature films produced in New Zealand between 1939 and 2013.
  3. User:David Nind requested and received photographs of the Chief Archivist to update wikimedia commons and wikipedia page.
  4. User:Barbuliscious looking to organise a wikipedia editathon on indigenous and/or female New Zealand artists at the Dowse tentatively dated for 16 November.
  5. User:Einebillion hasn't done much on wikidata in the last fortnight due to other commitments.
  6. User:Ambrosia10 has a number of speaking engagements booked in October and November around the world promoting wikidata and wikipedia. Is currently working on endemic moths of New Zealand wikipedia pages and bringing them up to C-class.
  7. Jon Working on Carmel Fisher article
  • Highlighted research resource - tool made by User:Magnus_Manske to help add depicts wikidata statements to video see Youtube video
  • Get on with problem solving, editing, and chatting

Outcomes[edit]

  • New Zealand Government open data - page to request data is https://www.data.govt.nz/request-data/ (for example, spreadsheet data locked up in a PDF published on an agency website which is clearly created from a spreadsheet - Tabula is a useful tool for extracting data from a PDF)
  • Learned by how to setup and use 'stated in' for references: add wikidata item for publication/database/source/etc, can then reference using stated in and putting in the Q number. Example: producer statement for Q68847825.
