Redirects

Hi,

You have redirected the two articles Elsa Ehrich and Hildegard Mende to Female guards in Nazi concentration camps, but the target article doesn't mention these names. Hence I think its not an appropriate redirect. --Anbu121 (talk me) 06:25, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

I don't believe they are appropriate entries, hence why they can be mentioned in that article. The article is on Nazi woman guards - and these innapropriate entries are on nazi woman guards. Unless you have a better idea? -- MST☆R (Merry Christmas!) 06:29, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
Well, the problem here is that there could be multiple people in the world by the name 'Elsa Elrich' and 'Hildegard Mende'. Suppose a visitor is searching for a person 'Elsa Elrich' who has nothing to do with Nazi, we are redirecting them inappropriately. Hence, this redirect could be justified only if the target article mentions the name 'Elsa Elrich'. --Anbu121 (talk me) 06:41, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Darren Heitner Wiki Page

You undid changes to the Heitner wiki page on the basis of "vandalism" and inappropriate sources. Both claims are false. The changes are to information inserted by the subject of the piece that have NO citation references themselves. The added information is supported by inline citations to appropriate sources (the actual Forbes and Indiana University websites the subject of the piece claims assert something different and to media reports). These are appropriate edits to conform to wiki standards, while the original entry is a PR piece added by the subject of the entry that does NOT conform to wiki standards. Hi. Forbes and Indiana University are generally considered primary sources for information about Forbes and Indiana University, respectively. But even secondary sources are more reliable than NO source, which is what the original entry had for the matters subject to the edit. As for the subject of the entry having added information, the source of the Wiki goes back to the subject's own website (sportbiz and his school account at Florida), as seen in the edit history. (Further, one only need read the original entry and compare to his official bio at his own blog (as cited in the edits) to see they are identical). Nevermind the diffs and apologies, what I meant to say, is that the sources both share a similarity = companies not news outlets. Importantly, are you able to provide multiple reliable sources to verify the "Controversy" section - because one source from the individual's own company - doesn't satisfy our policy on Biographies of living people. -- MST☆R (Happy New Year!) 13:25, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

On the "media rather than companies" point, the company links are to (i) the faculty page at Indiana University giving the actual title of the subject of the piece to replace the inaccurate title given originally (and sourced only by citation to the subject of the entry's OWN company website, not media), and (ii) to the Forbes page where the controversial piece was pulled by the editors yesterday (the subject of the entry links to this same Forbes site so if it is inappropriate for an edit is should be inappropriate for the original entry as well). It is available on google cache but I do not think that sort of link is appropriate. The third and final citation used is to Tar Heel Monthly, which IS a widely distributed media source (and to Heitner's twitter response to the Tar Heel Monthly article). I think the article and Heitner's response are sufficient to establish the controversy, although I can add a second media source for additional support. Frankly, the entry needs a lot of work to transform it from a PR/business development piece to an informative, neutral entry. Agree completely on the tone point. Part of that was indeed accusatory, and part a result of trying to "correct" the subjects own unsupported assertions without just deleting those original assertions to minimize the invasiveness of the edit. Perhaps a deletion is appropriate since the faculty page at Indiana ought to be definitive on the point of who is on the faculty and their titles (with the subjects personal business development website a completely inappropriate citation to the same matter). The same is true for the "controversy" section. I can try to tweak that as well to read more neutrally and informatively, without asserting anything that isn't contained in citations.

Question: Is it appropriate for the entry to contain so may "Awards" that are really just PR/ad-generated "honorariums" from trade companies/journals? I would not expect to see that sort of thing in an encyclopedic-styled entry. I would think those should be deleted, but I would leave that to others to fix.


BTW: Note the subject of the entry is likely editing the piece himself right now to revert to the PR piece. The edits originate from Miami, which is where the subject resides.


I have now (i) revised language throughout to remove non-neutral language that I had added and replace with simple, neutral assertions of fact, (ii) removed assertions that have no citation support and (iii) added a second media source for the controversy section and revised language to be more informative statements of fact in a neutral tone.

Again, note edits originating from an IP address in Hollywood, FL (the hometown of the subject of the entry, see: http://sportstechnow.com/2008/01/featured-blog-i-want-to-be-a-sports-agent/). Those edits added non-neutral jabs at certain people and were undone. I'm really satisfied with your work on the article - weeding out all the innapropriate non-encylopedic drivel. I'm personally monitoring the article on my watchlist - so if I notice any innapropriate editing by suspicious IPs, their edits will be reverted, and they'll be questioned on their edits. Those awards don't seem to be notable - therefore you're in the right to be bold and remove them. The language that was used in the original controversy section was somewhat mundane with silly accusations - you revision is much more neutral - encylopedic. Firstly, I haven't reverted your edit on the basis of being Greek (which I am, good call! ) - that would be a conflict of interest + totally out of my own interests in general. Not a sport fan.
Secondly, and most importantly, your edit was reverted because you removed sourced content and added this: "Greece will be forever remembered by their negative football and were dubbed "the only underdogs in history that everyone wants to see get beaten" which is definately not appropriate. If there is content in a article, that is completely unsourced (no reliable sources cited) you can be bold and remove that content - but you cannot replace it with more unsourced content, or other innapropriate content. I reverted content that had no reference (you did not answer about the source of that inflammatory Greek propaganda). I replaced it by a quote from one of the best renown newspapers in the world. There is absolutely no offensive content. There is a simple fact stating that the negative football played by Greece earned them no sympathy throughout the world. Crucially, it's not me saying that. Is a British sports journalist.

In regards to your 'bias' remarks, I've replied to you here.

It's called venting! I'm just so frustrated with how biased editors are on wikipedia, it's like only one set of opinions count, all the main editors are liberal democrat members and it's like what the hell? I mean they pick and choose their sources very carefully and they are clever (sometimes not so clever) with their wording! Wikipedia has become a Liberal Democrat supporting Newspaper! It's very rare that anything gets passed them, it's only when someone spends hours and hours arguing with these people that partiality is reached because they know they're in the wrong and end up having to give way! It's ridiculous! What can anyone do about this other than protest? No need to apologise — you certainly not the first person to be confused, nor will you be the last - Wikipedia at the end of the day, can bve really confusing! So, Welcome to Wikipedia!
Now, in regards to Jaideep's article - Wikipedia has a strict guideline in place, regarding this issue: Conflict of Interest. In a nuttshell, "Do not edit Wikipedia to promote your own interests, or those of other individuals or of organizations, including employers. Do not write about these things unless you are certain that a neutral editor would agree that your edits improve Wikipedia."
All content added to articles, must be attributed to reliable secondary sources and must be neutral. So ultimately, an official biography cannot be uploaded/created. All articles are not owned by an indivial or groups of people - it's "Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia, That anyone can edit" - which includes the Jaideep Sahni article. Edgewater High School Orlando FL Principal Arrest

Hi, Please excuse me if I overstepped my boundary when I originally requested removal. I requested the arrest content removed several months ago. It appears my request was not merited enough to take it down. The alleged incident has never come to fruition and is now void of merit. I feel it is a personal attack on the principal to continue to include this incident to the archives of the what I generally feel is a reputable information source.

I had reverted your edit to the article under this IP address, back in August 2012, because it didn't appear constructive.
With that said, I wasn't the editor that you had initially requested to have the section regarding the principal removed — that was MegastarLV. Megastar undid your removal and of the section cited, "Yes it does. She is the school principal & is somehow still employed there. Source is reliable"
Now, the sources are reliable, the issue is still in the news, so all of that is merit; however, I'm not seeing how the DUI has any real link to the school, when it was allegedly comitted by the principal outside of school. I have reviewed the article, source, & school website thoroughly. There is no evideence of a personal attack in any of the three nor vandalism being made in the article. While it may not be directly linked to the school, Erickson is the school's principal & is still listed as an employee of Orange County Public Schools despite the incident, according to the source. The content that you would like added in is completely unsourced - (ie. you haven't cited reliable sources). You have now explained that a source does exist - however, they are books - and Wikipedia doesn't allow content to be bias or point of view, or simply one sided. You must cite sources that are secondary and reliable (newspaper articles, for example). With this edit, for example, it is unsourced (and also you appear to be shouting). http://www.jambudweep.org/ is an organisation, and generally isn't reliable to cite as a reference for something in relation to the website. Please review our policies/guidelines on Original research, Neutral point of view, Reliable sources.
Wikipedia does take verification seriously, and I can tell you now, there will be content you'd like added in - that cannot be added in, because it may be in violation of our policies/guidelines.

Example of how Editor's can infringe all of the above

Law is meant to take the most unbiased approach possible yet some wikipedia editors belive otherwise and will unedit posts that they believe to be against wikipedias laws. Take for example:

"Internet spam is equally common in the modern age, however publicly declaring people, website or company's of spamming is illegal and is classed as defamation. There has been much debate that Wikipedia is in breach of the law with their spam project. Whereby Wikipedia lists apparent spam websites. The internet is dynamic and so is Wikipedia by Wikipedia editors putting links up on the spam project page declaring that the website is a spam website or has been spamming holds know evidence as there is no evidence to suggest the owners of the website where responsible and it wasn't a competitor or rival website trying to negatively effect that websites reputation by trying to get them on Wikipedia spam list."

By deleting this section of post will show that wikipedia does not have a "Neutral point of view" at all and isnt a open for valid and correct information if it goes against something to do with wikipedia. By keeping the above would show that wikipedia is open and accepts law as a valid and neutral point of view.

Assessment

Please see Talk:Monster's Legacy. I did an assessment of the last three paragraph and the plot section. It was initially quotes on the surface but if you look at the sources closely, the entire paragraph is copied from the source including the quote. While the quotes themselves are not plagiarism, the surrounding interview text is, and arguably because the use of the quotes is word for word the same, the entire paragraph (quotes and all) are plagiarism. A few "he said" and "they said" were added in, but by the university definition, still very serious plagiarism problems and the whole article is like that. I've made it through only four sources but considered the trend there is very little prose that isn't copied and pasted. Mkdwtalk 05:37, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

I had used the bot to view the suspected copyright violations - however, it only showed misplaced quotes (some of which weren't in the article).
