Part of Wikipedia's global 17th birthday celebration, Wikipedia Day NYC 2018 at Ace Hotel will include a mini-conference of scheduled panels as well as unconference style talks and discussions proposed by attendees on the day of the event. Not vandalism (w.r.t Talk:Amish)
Hi, I think you reverted a post I made to Talk:Amish? I assure you that no harm was intended. The links really had been changed although I can see how my post could have been been misconstrued. I don't know if it was an XSS attack or something - I checked first to see if anything had been posted about it for wikipedia in general but I couldn't see anything. I've never seen this happen before and I must have viewed thousands of articles over the years. As it didn't seem to be due to simple edit-vandalism I thought I should ask if anyone knew anything about it. I understand that the page that was linked to is associated with a known hacking group but I am still a little surprised that wikipedia's software would have a vulnerability that would allow such a thing to happen. I don't do much wikipedia editing but for example the edits to the 'clockwise' article on 10th July 2017 are mine and I like to think they were constructive changes! @CapnZapp: "former" in this sense is similar to "née" (definition) or "maiden name" (maiden name definition), it means the maiden name before marriage or the birth name. In the Lady Diana Cooper article it also means the name of the woman before she accepted the title upon marriage (after all, Violet Lindsay wasn't born as the Duchess of Rutland...). The usage is somewhat antiquated but is still accepted "society pages" usage and marriage announcement usage. Shearonink (talk) 15:45, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
Wikimedia NYC invites you to attend a Wiki Loves Pride Edit-a-thon on Thursday, July 12th at Jefferson Market Library! Wiki Loves Pride is a global campaign to expand and improve LGBT-related content across all Wikimedia projects, in all languages. We are holding this year's event in July in order to support folx who want to contribute a photograph they took at one of NYC's many Pride events or edit an article about something they learned this June. ArbCom 2018 election voter message
Hello, Shearonink. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Reporting IP addresses as vandalism-only
Hello Shearonink. Thanks for helping to fight vandalism. I noticed that you recently reported an IP address to AIV as a vandalism-only account. Please keep in mind that the term "vandalism-only account" can only be applied to registered Wikipedia accounts and not to IP addresses. IP addresses may belong to multiple users and may change owners over time, so they are not considered vandalism-only accounts, even if they have a long-term pattern of vandalism. Hello K6ka. In my opinion your "notice" to me - complete with the blue Information icon for Templated Notices and Warnings - is unneeded. As a regular I am very aware of Wikipedia policies.
Did you see I stated [exactly] "Vandalism-only account at the moment"?
Did you see that I didn't tick-off the Vandalism-only account box?
I very carefully stated in the Comments box what I saw happening with that anon's contributions. Whoever it was that was using that IP address they needed to be stopped at least with a temporary block because all their edits were indeed vandalism-only. While you're editing, as you're editing, you've made a change and you want to see how it looks before you hit "Publish changes" just hit the "Show preview" button to see how your changes look. (The "Show preview" constantly saves me from publishing errors and mistakes all the time.) And then when you're happy with your edits, "Publish changes"! Translat-a-thon NYC 2019 @ LaGuardia Community College is hosting the second annual Wikipedia Translatathon! At this event on Thursday evening and during the day Friday this week, anyone from the public is invited to LaGuardia to join students, professors, and CUNY faculty in translating Wikipedia articles among any languages which attendees understand. Themes for this event include public health and the history of New York City.
New York City has a large immigrant population and great diversity of speakers of various languages. Among all schools in New York City, LaGuardia has the highest percentage of immigrant students, the highest percentage of students who speak a language other than English as their first language, and the greatest representation of language diversity. It is a strength of LaGuardia that it can present "Wikipedia translatathons", which are Wikipedia translation events.

I didn't meant to be snippy, and that's why I sourced as many of them as I had time for this morning. I just didn't feel two weeks was long enough to allow people to edit. I've seen things go for years. You're right, that article is a trivia magnet and I deleted some trivial entries.
By the way, you should use the 'citation needed' tag for unsourced statements: Benjamin Harrison was a vampire.[citation needed]
The 'says whom?' tag is used more for controversial or unencyclopedic statements: Historians agree that Chester A. Arthur was the handsomest U.S. president of all.[according to whom?]Bkatcher (talk) 17:24, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
Yeah I know wrong tag for that specific problem, sorry about that. Heh, as you said - most of those statements were/are longstanding entries. I have noticed many/most/all before but didn't have time to go through and individually research how long each one had been hanging around in a reference-less state but I knew they had been there at least for more then two weeks. For instance, these statements were some of the longstanding years-old entries:
November 2016: "First president to be a deist." added,
January 2018: "First president to be physically accosted (attacked) while in office." added
April 2015: "First president to send an email."/"First President to send an e-mail." added.
etc., etc. This List does attract all sorts of attention, including fancruft/trivia/vandalism/oh-so-clevers (Abraham Lincoln Vampire-Hunter *sigh*), I'm just trying to keep it in a semi-respectable state defending it from the barbarians at the gate lol.
