Speedy deletion nomination of Mesozoic mammals[edit]

Ranks in taxonomy templates[edit]

Hi, firstly ranks in taxonomy templates (i.e. pages with names beginning "Template:Taxonomy/") must be in Latin (e.g. "ordo" not "order", "superordo" not "superorder", "familia" not "family").

Secondly, the ranks in a complete classification must be consistent. Thus the rank at Template:Taxonomy/Docodonta cannot be changed to "ordo" while there are three ranks below the level of order above it – look at the table on the right of the page. The order in this classification is Therapsida, as per Therapsid#Classification.

I have no view on the correctness of any of these ranks; just that they must be self-consistent and based on reliable sources. If you want to make such changes, please discuss them first, e.g. at WT:WikiProject Animals. Peter coxhead (talk) 12:50, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Another option is to set the parent of Docodonta at Template:Taxonomy/Docodonta to "Mammaliaformes/skip". This has been provided specifically to allow mammals to be classified in a different and inconsistent way to other vertebrates, including dinosaurs.
