Alvaro Morata

Thank you for contacting me about the edit to the above page. I don't think it's usual to have to cite a source for a player's current club. I can't see any other instances of this. I have therefore changed it back. There are only minor formalities to complete before Morata joins Chelsea permanently, therefore - to all intents and purposes - he is now a Chelsea player. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Endofcity (talkcontribs) 19:46, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

With 10+ years experience here, I can tell you it *absolutely* is standard practice to include a source for a transfer. Sorry, are you genuinely trying to claim that agreeing a salary and passing a medical are "minor formalities"? Mattythewhite (talk) 19:49, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
I'm not talking about a transfer, I'm talking about his current club, namely Chelsea FC. I don't know why you're making a big thing about this! He's moving to Chelsea and is no longer a RM player. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Endofcity (talkcontribs) 19:51, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
Really not sure I can help you here. I've tried explaining it to you in layman's terms. Mattythewhite (talk) 19:53, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

Hello,
Various IPs keep adding unsourced info to this page in respect of (probable) pending move to CPFC. I think I may have already RV'd too many times! I don't suppose it's a candidate for protection really, but any chance you could keep an eye on it also. Thanks. Regards, Eagleash (talk) 10:34, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Watchlisted, I'll revert/protect if necessary. Mattythewhite (talk) 11:29, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. I see we just went at 'cross-purposes' at the page! :) Eagleash (talk) 17:21, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Javier Hernandez

I don't understand why I was warned so badly this time, the sources are everywhere I just forgot to cite them, can't you search before you do a warning? I'll leave a few, and man I think I contributed a lot to wikipedia to just block me of editing for no reason, anyways here they are:

BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40669333 WEST HAM OFFICIAL PAGE: http://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2017/july/20-july/javier-hernandez-terms-agreed ESPN: http://www.espnfc.com/story/3161370/javier-chicharito-hernandez-agrees-to-join-west-ham

Is that enough? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnyCosta (talkcontribs) 18:41, 20 July 2017 ( (UTC)

No, because those sources make it clear the transfer is pending a medical. Just wait until it's done and dusted. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:43, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Hello, I wanted to talk to you about what you've been doing. Football/soccer players have been moving to new clubs, so I have been updating them so. They have been confirmed, and every time I changed their current club to their new club, I went to get my source, only to find that you had undone the edit because of a lack of source. You did this to me on Javier Hernandez's page twice, and on Romelu Lukaku's page. You also said that I had one last warning or I will be blocked, even though I did nothing wrong. I would like answers as to why you did this. AidanMcCrorie (talk) 16:34, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

You need to add your source *with* your initial edit. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:36, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Álvaro Morata's squad number

Hi Matty, I checked the Chelsea site to see Álvaro Morata's squad number and it's not there, but I see you reverted my change at Template:Chelsea F.C. squad. Where did you see it? JMHamo (talk) 20:49, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

My revert was to re-add Morata, without really taking notice of the squad number. Mattythewhite (talk) 20:55, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
Ah OK, just a misunderstanding. Thanks for clearing that up! JMHamo (talk) 21:01, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
On a related note Beckstar123 insists on adding No. 9 to the Template:Chelsea F.C. squad numerous times. I am not going to edit war, but I do not see it announced anywhere. JMHamo (talk) 13:46, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

Danish punk

Good, they have been blocked again! Now, how about a bigger one? Look at what they pulled immediately after returning to the site, now the entire Sporting Clube de Portugal squad (plus one or two extra famous elements it seems) plays for Boldklubben Frem (please see here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Boldklubben_Frem&diff=789778486&oldid=789461352)? What the fudge?!?!

Will they recur to the WP:MYBRODIDIT argument? Could be, if they talked to people!! Attentively, keep it up --Quite A Character (talk) 18:17, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

  • No feedback, OK (maybe it's because it seems i am telling you how to do your job? It's just i am so frustrated by this vandal, and once - yes, only ONCE but i did - i saw an IP be blocked for three years). Not that it will do any good, but the punk now resorted to an IP address and destroyed the squads at FC Porto and Frem again (already reverted). --Quite A Character (talk) 20:33, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

The work I put in on that - and then you get rid of it all BEFORE I HAD EVEN HAD TIME to add my sources, all of which are credible football reference books. You're a York City fan - do you not think the Rothmans Yearbook is good enough for you? And is it any wonder wikipedia is struggling when someone with a hint of power chooses to abuse it in this way? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.198.118.158 (talk) 12:56, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

If you'd have added your sources *first*, there wouldn't have been a problem, would there? This is basic stuff.
Perhaps you should take a look at WP:RS and WP:V, and then revise your appraisal of "abuse of power"? Mattythewhite (talk) 13:02, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

Pape Souaré

Hello, Did you see my response concerning Pape Souaré (you delete the fact that he won the L1 2010-2011)?

He won the L1 in 2010–11 when he played in LOSC. A wikipedia page is dedicated to this season (2010–11 Lille OSC season) and lists all the players who took part in this title. In this page, you will find all the references and reliable sources (like footballdatabase.eu...) Pape Souaré appeared 4 times during the title season.

What do you want me to do? To duplicate all the references in each player who won the title or to point the title note to the dedicated page created for the event? Regards, Konchellah (talk) 13:39, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, I wasn't notified about your response. It should be cited in each biography, just having it in the season article isn't sufficient. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:42, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
Ok thank you for your response. I just did it. But sometimes I think it is a bit too much: for example, I wrote yesterday this in Cheikh N'Doye page (and was deleted): "He is captain of Angers team for the season 2016-17. He reaches the 2017 Coupe de France final against PSG (lost 1-0)." And here you have directly wikipedia page of the cup final with all the composition, it should be enough...
Sources need to be *independent* of Wikipedia, self-referencing is a no-no. See WP:CIRC for more details. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:17, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

Confusing edits

Mattythewhite - you recently posted a message on my talk page stating that my update to a player's page did not correspond with WP:FOOTY/Players - I have recently edited several pages so that they comply with WP:FOOTY/Players (for example Chuks Aneke) - yet you have then edited my update and changed the edits I have made which did comply with WP:FOOTY/Players. For example, on WP:FOOTY/Players it gives the example for the main section of a player's career as being headed 'Playing career' - which is what I changed. But then you changed it to 'Club career'. If you are going to be so persistant, please tell me what guide I should be following?!

In addition, your description of your edits was unreadable and did not describe what changes you made and why. I have reverted all of the edits you made back to my edit as I cannot see a logical reason why they were made.

I am trying to learn as much as I can re the stringent rules on Wikipedia, yet there is always something new that crops up. If you are going to suggest that I have not read WP:FOOTY/Players correctly, then please clarify in detail what I have done wrong, and perhaps WP:FOOTY/Players needs to be written in a clearer format with notes. FilthyDon (talk) 05:09, 30 July 2017 (UTC)FilthyDon

Among the edits you made were adding a national team to an infobox when the player was uncapped, adding nationality before a division's name, replacing the word "club" with the more informal "side" and adding redundant section headings (why do we need a "Playing career" heading when just "Career" will suffice, as the players haven't had coaching or managerial careers)? I can't see that any one of those additions are supported by WP:FOOTY/Players. Mattythewhite (talk) 14:06, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
Now that you have clearly explained why you have amended my edits, I can understand where you are coming from on certain points - I did not know for example that I shouldn't put a national side in an infobox when a player is called up, if they haven't made an appearance. However, there is absolutely no need to make threats of blocking me from editing when my intentions were good, and I was following your advice in the first place when you suggested I follow WP:FOOTY/Players. You have also removed page links to clubs from the 'Honours' section of several of my edits, when this is exactly what is shown on WP:FOOTY/Players. Finally, WP:FOOTY/Players specifically says that the guidelines are exactly that and not set in stone. I don't see any issue in putting the nationality of a division in a page article. Not everyone is aware that League One for example is in England, and could easily be confused with the French Ligue 1 for those not in the know. Unless you are going to point me in the direction of specific, set in stone guidelines, then you have no right to change edits that have been justified such as that. In future, please be more constructive and productive rather than making edits without explanation, and threatening bans on users such as myself that have good intentions at heart. FilthyDon (talk) 14:51, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
You are right that WP:FOOTY/Players is not set in stone, rather it is a suggested layout. Ultimately we should be guided by policy and manuals of style where appropriate, which WP:FOOTY/Players ought to reflect. However, I do not appreciate being instructed to "be more constructive and productive". Admittedly, I could have been more communicative in explaining my edits, but my edits were in good faith and followed policy to the best of my understanding. When you are removing entire swathes of sourced and notable content, like the international stats table at Ousseynou Cissé, you're likely to receive warnings, from me or someone else. Mattythewhite (talk) 14:59, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

A few minutes ago I had noticed that on the Will Grigg article that the division of Wigan Athletic was not changed. After when I updated to the correct division, I was shocked that obvious vandalism was found on the top of the page, not by me but the user you have recently blocked. What's the issue?

I'm including the F.C. because that's what the clubs are called. Go to their pages. They say Fulham F.C. and Tottenham Hotspur F.C. You didn't delete the F.C. after Seattle Sounders, so why are you so passive on that one and getting so upset about the others??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.85.253.62 (talk) 06:00, 7 August 2017‎ (UTC)

You mustn't have looked at many football biographies, otherwise you'd know we don't generally include the "F.C." in club names. The "FC" (note the subtle difference) after Seattle Sounders is included as it doesn't stand for anything, and it's what the club is commonly referred to as. Page move

Matty, if you please and you pose no objections, could you move Santana (footballer) to "Joaquim Santana"? Page needs a birth name to accompany the surname, as Santana is not a nickname or akin, it's a REAL (sur)name. Plus, when i type "Joaquim Santana" in the search engine, it redirects me to article (note: i tried to perform the action myself, but was not allowed).

Reason for request: Wayne Rooney's page is not named "Rooney", is it? Or Gareth Bale's just "Bale". Thus, for coherence purposes... Thanks in advance! --Quite A Character (talk) 21:21, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

We're guided by WP:COMMONNAME when deciding article titles, so it depends on what he was mostly commonly referred to as. A lot of players in Portuguese-speaking countries do go by mononyms, so is it possible he was mostly known by just his surname? The players you cite, I'd say, are not mostly commonly referred to by just their surnames. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:37, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

A Benfica-related example: Mário Coluna was often referred to as just "Coluna". But his WP article contains both name and surname. José Augusto Torres was known solely as "Torres", and so on and so on. I leave it to your good judgement, as always. --Quite A Character (talk) 22:06, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

Potential Unreliable Source

Hello, I'm 86.161.5.62. I am concerned about the website 'www.statto.com'[1] which is used as references to many team's seasons about their history. I keep on visiting the site on the occasional day each month but more often than not in recent history, the site appears not to be working. Therefore, I am describing this as a potential unreliable source and it makes the introductions to the seasons of each team not backed up with sources, such that the contributors are not making this up with non-verified content.

As it stands, there could be a maximum of 92 articles of teams in the entire Football League in one season alone, including the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea etc which uses ref(s) from the website. With Forest Green Rovers being in the Football League for the first time, I am not sure if the majority of the details of the lead sentence are correct here.

If you click the reference under this message, you should find it is not working. Thanks, 86.161.5.62 (talk) 12:18, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I am aware that Statto has been down for some time now, and whether it passes WP:RS is another question. I have been replacing Statto refs with Soccerbase from time to time, but their tables only go to the early 1990s. However, I'm not sure I follow you re lead sentences, I highly doubt people have been using Statto specifically for updating the lead sentences of club articles. The content in the lead sentences should be cited in the body of the article anyway. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 13:10, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
I suspect that when the new season articles are created, they simply copied the source from the previous seasons and altered numbers and possible change of division accordingly. That still leaves the same page referenced in each season for one club. 86.161.5.62 (talk) 13:36, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

Bits and pieces

1 - when do you think it will be appropriate to indef block this wiki-idiot User:David Sánchez Latorre? Seeing what they did time and time again in Luis Rubiales, and now in Javier Manquillo, Juanfran (footballer, born 1985) and Koke (footballer, born 1992)? Just asking, considering the level of their contributions still amount to ZERO.

2 - if you please, could you weigh in at this user's page (please see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Marioszittis)? Not about the leagues in intro being mentioned or not (no consensus there, as always), but regarding the common naming of clubs. As i wrote there, we don't say Arsenal/Chelsea London, we don't say Benfica Lisbon or Numancia Soria, so why is the user pushing this "Omonia-Nicosia-as-commonname" agenda? I write to you because i'm almost sure i will be re-reverted, it's just the said user does not seem to have been active these last hours.

Attentively, thanks in advance and have a pleasant week --Quite A Character (talk) 19:31, 13 August 2017 (UTC)

Won't be long if they carry on the way they have been.
Unlike the examples you give, the club does have its location in its full name (Athletic Club Omonia Nicosia). However, it looks like the club is mostly known as just Omonia, so that is probably correct. Mattythewhite (talk) 20:49, 13 August 2017 (UTC)

Disruptive Edits regarding 163.171.8.4 or 163.171.0.4

Hi admin, could you kindly help out with this? This editor (163.171.8.4 or 163.171.0.4 and any similar IP) vandalized the page not for the first time. I think you did warn him earlier this mouth [1] I tried to discuss the matter with him but he did not respond. As the source pointed out [2], it read "Press Association Sport understands McGeady cost £500,000 and Vaughan £250,000."...However, the said editor kept reverting the data back.

Thank you for your assistance again.

ChrisCheekos (2nd time)

Hi Matty, ChrisCheekos [3] again was making disruptive edits. Once again, he added reserve players to the first team squad [4] due to this official site page [5]. However, I would like to point out that the official site does not update the squad list. From the list you can even see Leandro Rodriguez is listed in the first team squad but he had left Everton two weeks ago [6]. From the list, Galloway is given no. 32 but in fact he had not been assigned a squad number for 2017/2018 season [7].

Add to the fact the club released the first team list with squad numbers for 2017/2018 in early July on this page [8], which contradicts to the aforesaid link used by ChrisCheekos. The official site shop however has the first team squad kits here for purchasing (please click "Football Kits" to see).[9]

Kindly advise us what can be done here? Or am I wrong this time? Thank you. Davekgoodnight (talk) 17:05, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

Makes sense to go with a source that is most up to date. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:23, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification again. Much appreciated. Hopefully ChrisCheekos and Evertonboyhutch will take this as reference. Davekgoodnight (talk) 09:20, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

I will indeed take it as reference, but Davekgoodnight contradicts himself by citing the Everton club shop as a reference to which squad members are first team players. He still lists Kieran Dowell in the reserve section when he is clearly showing in Dave's own link as having his shirt name and number (28) available. It's obvious to anyone that Everton aren't very good at updating their webpage and therefore it cannot and should not be used as gospel when editing this page. It just seems that Davekgoodnight wants to pick and choose what is an appropriate reference and what isn't to suit his own controlling agenda.

ChrisCheekos —Preceding undated comment added 10:32, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

The club shop and the official site are clearly operated separately otherwise the information inside both sites regarding first team squad will be identical (Rodriguez and Galloway etc). You answer it yourselves, Everton aren't very good at updating their webpage and the latest regarding first team squad can be found on this page [10]. I tell you what Chris, the Premier League governing body will announce each PL team's squad list on 1 September 2017 for this season. By the time, you will know who's in and out of the first team squad. Who's right or wrong on this. It occurs to me you want to pick and choose what is an appropriate reference (contradicted to your source...why didn't you add Rodriguez in last time? And why did you remove Robinson from the reserve loan list? Who is agenda driven here?) because you have done it repeatedly [11] and received warnings from the admin on a number of occasions [12]. Having said that...just wait for the Premier League to announce the squad lists on 1 September 2017. Davekgoodnight (talk) 12:17, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

Range block

Since you blocked ‎2a02:c7f:901a:5300:b9f7:78fe:1c4c:2b5b (talk · contribs · WHOIS), could also block the rest of the 2A02:C7F:901A:5300::0/64 range? The range has been blocked twice already, but as you can see that hasn't the evasion as soon as the blocks expired. I've already filed an SPI case here, but given the current backlog at SPI, I figured it made more sense to come to you directly to expedite things. Thanks. Is this stuff notable (very last line of international career)? After all, Serbia lost 2-0! At a quick glance, it seems that this user, STEFANOVICPFK (please note the last three letters of their username, a bow to FK Partizan), is intent as in the article of Gregor Balažic one or two years ago of not allowing any negative references being made to his favourite team's players.

I'll cleanup where due tomorrow, it's 6 AM i gotta get some sleep :) --Quite A Character (talk) 05:29, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

  • DONE! Thought it would take much more time, it did not. Plenty of good additions contrary to what i had perceived at a quick glance (but in the Balazic article this user definitely was very naughty!), minor cleanup overall.

However, other than what we talked about yesterday about the penalty save for Serbia in a LOSS, found (and removed of course, i think we - and most of the community - will see eye to eye on this) an even more "amusing" bit: the user inserted Stojkovic saved a penalty from Andrey Arshavin against Arsenal, who... WON 3-1!

Hello and thanks for posting this message but I have noticed that the same user has added the bold text at random to the article Joshua King (footballer). That possibly means the user has continued doing the MOS deviation after you posted the warning message. Wenger

Greetings again! Just wondering if you still want me to add Arsène Wenger's birth/full name (Arsène Charles Ernest Wenger)? Not only The Independent article has it listed, there are some other articles I found on Google that has the birth/full name included as well – Daily Maverick and Mediapart. Would really appreciate a reply. Thanks. Arbero (talk) 22:18, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi, it's been established that Wenger does not have any middle names, as per a biography which is now cited in the infobox. I suspect "Charles Ernest" was added to the Wenger article as vandalism, no editors questioned it and journalists unquestioningly took it as fact. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 22:34, 4 September 2017 (UTC)
I understand then, thanks for clearing it up. No, I can assure you it wasn't vandalism and yes I did notice the book that was being used as a reference, even though I actually thought that was his birth/full name at first for some reason since it appeared on both English and foreign websites I found. Hey there,

I noticed you removed the changes from Kayne McLaggon's profile about the appearances and goals that he had earned with Merthyr Town and Barry Town United.

Just to clarify that the changes I made are accurate and that I am a Barry Town United fan and keep up with the facts and results. Kayne has only recently joined Barry and so I took the liberty in updating his account. you've also removed other sources which were accurate. I only added the ones that I knew from sources I.e Merthyr etc.

Can you change them then. He has made three appearances (so far) for Barry Town United and for Merthyr Town over 160 appearances and 83 goals.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deansyboy96 (talkcontribs) 16:03, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

Regarding edits by blocked IP

Hey! Sorry to burden you with work, but you seem to have a very good knowledge of how football articles must be written and how they must be sourced, so I thought I might inform you of this. The IP Special:Contributions/86.190.158.86 has made quite a few edits over the past few days, all related to the player Ri Yong-chol, and was blocked for vandalism (especially since the IP decided to attack you in the last few edits). The only source the IP had for the transfer of the player to Wigan Athletic is a fan-site, which I'm assuming is not a reliable source. Based on your assessment, some clean-up might be required in those edits. Thanks in advance! Jiten Dhandha • talk • contributions • 21:02, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

And the repeated fusillade of insults? What gives (also, according to them, my level of English is 1 or 0, and I find that extremely insulting. Question to you, not trying to show anyone who's boss around here or anything, just to know if i'm thinking of A when it's B instead: in all the years that you have known me and know my editing M.O., how would you rate my English? I have made this edit which took around six minutes to do the copy/paste and altering years, person ID etc. and I am thinking that using a script/bot would be better as this would get the job done quicker rather than users doing this all over again. Che Adams stats

Hello. Was wondering if you have any books or know of any websites that might help with sourcing Mr Adams' appearance stats for Ilkeston 2013/14 and 2014/15 (Northern Prem Lge Prem Division). Goals I can do, I think, but I'm not convinced that 30 or 40 Ilkeston Advertiser match reports would be entirely acceptable for sourcing his appearances. The front page of http://ilsonfootball.co.uk/ (scroll down to pen pics) gives 28/1 and 20/8, but doesn't say what those figures are supposed to include. Thanks, more in hope than expectation, Struway2 (talk) 17:19, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

Afraid not. For that level, clubs often have Pitchero do their websites, and their player profiles list appearances and goals, like this. Ilkeston don't, and their site doesn't seem to contain much in the way of match reports or player stats. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 17:45, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
Trouble is that Ilkeston F.C. got wound up, we now have Ilkeston Town F.C. (2017), and although the current website looks like the old one, the only content that remains of Ilkeston F.C. is last season's results, and there's not much on archive.org. Thanks anyway. No SPI has been carried out as of yet from what i see, just a hunch derived from their editing pattern. Also in Mr. Rubiales, we have User:Juanjo11111 and User:David Sánchez Latorre (that, and 5/6 IP addresses from back in the day). The second account, other than destroying the storyline and writing in Anglish as habitually, also took it upon themselves to add hundreds of Twitter pages to several footballers, which is against the guidelines, no?

Sorry the reply took so long, thanks for the implication --Quite A Character (talk) 17:46, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Thankyou for your participation in the challenge series or/and contests. In November The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There will be over $4000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. If this would appeal to you and you think you'd be interested in contributing new articles on women during this month for your region or wherever please sign up in the participants section. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate and raise money to buy books about women for others to use, this is also fine. Thankyou, and if taking part, good luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:39, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

Page move

Can you please move Pedro Coronas to "Coronas" (per the wikisearch I performed, I feel no disambiguation - such as writing "footballer" in brackets - will be necessary)? The current title is a name/nickname compound (note: I tried to perform the action myself, was not allowed).

Attentively, thanks in advance --Quite A Character (talk) 12:32, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

It would still need dabbing with (footballer), as Coronas is a redirect to Corona. Mattythewhite (talk) 14:15, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

With the dabbing (thanks for that tip), i was allowed the move. Pay no attention to the Portuguese websites that address him as "Pedro Coronas", over the course of the years i have had to put up with ultra-mega idiocies from Portuguese sportscasters such as "Pedro Pauleta", "Pedro Mantorras" or "Nuno Capucho", because god knows why ALL Portuguese players must have two names mentioned 99,999999999999999 of the time, and that's not only in football (heck, sometimes even three!). In this game (http://www.marca.com/marcador/futbol/2011_12/primera/jornada_10/ath_atm/), i remember it well, the on-duty commentator for Sport TV thought it would be very professional to say "Radamel Falcao García" everytime the Colombian touched the ball...

Until some other time, thanks again --Quite A Character (talk) 16:25, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

I was just trying to update pictures as they are too old. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hoanganhminh01 (talkcontribs) 16:46, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

Ross McCormack

Okay. But Ross McCormack was transfered to Melbourne City FC, but in an injury replacement. So maybe we could just put Melbourne City in the history of the player, Ross McCormack from Aston Villa F.C. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FastCube (talkcontribs) 23:35, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

Barton Town

Er, you realise you just moved it over an actual article on another club rather than a redirect? Number 57 22:13, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

D'oh. Think I've fixed it now. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:35, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

Asked for help at WP:FOOTY due to my shortcomings in the display of the international goals charts. No feedback whatsoever, and on top of that another user reverted my work: 1 - they claim the goal (now sourced, i admit it was not before) against Liverpool was a "weird focus" (verbatim) - additionally, i admit i wrongly wrote some POV there back in the day, calling his association with Boniek "legendary", it has now been removed by me; 2 - without one word, chunks of the PERSONAL LIFE section were removed, plus (!) the ref.

What's your intake on this (note: can you have a look at the chart as well, to see if you can mend it please (that is, if no one at WP:FOOTY beats you to it)? Note 2: i have already contacted a Polish user to see if they can retrieve some refs for the subject's career at the Lodz club)? --Quite A Character (talk) 20:13, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

Looks better with your amendments. What in particular are you looking for re the international goals table? Mattythewhite (talk) 20:34, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

If you notice, the int'l goals chart had this display (see here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=W%C5%82odzimierz_Smolarek&diff=prev&oldid=794781298), and after i inserted the doubled RSSSF ref it looks like this (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=W%C5%82odzimierz_Smolarek&diff=next&oldid=794781298, different for the worse with all the outlining removed, and plus it looks like only the last goal is sourced, i think ref has to be placed somewhere else in the chart but i'm at a loss) --Quite A Character (talk) 21:17, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

I've added it to the top of the table along with a hatnote. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:32, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

The user continues to remove said info from his W. Lodz career. Can you please revert and/or have a word with them (I guess for this user, if Ronaldo/Messi or Maradona/Platini shared teams would also be irrelevant, I mentioned a team link between probably the two best Polish footballers of their generation. The other bit? A decisive goal against an ENGLISH team mentioned in the ENGLISH WP certainly merits note, no? The other user notes that a Polish club had previously reached the last-four stage of a European competition, but Mr. Smolarek did not play there or at all in the 60s, did he?)? I fear I will not rise to the occasion as far as complying to the site's guidelines regarding interaction, so to speak. --Quite A Character (talk) 08:46, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

I've left a message on their talk page. Although I would agree the bit about who he shared a team with being removed. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:37, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

OK, that stays out if your better judgement tells you that :) Let's just work on reinstating the Liverpool game bit. --Quite A Character (talk) 13:45, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

  • I have just added my two cents in the fellow user's page, please do read and leave additional thoughts if you see fit. Additional question, I was forgetting it: do you think his association with Zbigniew Boniek does not merit inclusion BECAUSE it is unsourced (as of yet, remember I have contacted that Polish user, still no reply even though they have been logged in after my message) or it does not merit inclusion REGARDLESS of being sourced? --Quite A Character (talk) 09:14, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
Even sourced, I wouldn't say it is notable. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:41, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
