Help with my Userpage[edit]

Hi there!

I am relatively new to Wikipedia, and I am starting to edit My Userpage. I was browsing through userpages to try to find some good material to add to mine, (such as userboxes - I just found out about "the great userbox war") and I found your page. I really liked the design of your page (the "bubbles"), and tried to copy it over to my userpage, but it didn't work the way i wanted. I am asking you because (1) it's on your page, and (2) you're an admin. How can I incorporate that design into my userpage, complete with the thing at the top (with my name and a few little icons)?

Thanks,

Iamzork 01:44, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, glad you like my userpage! The code for the header is in a subpage - User:The wub/uptop. You can either

  • copy the code from there directly onto your user page
  • or copy it to a subpage e.g. User:Iamzork/uptop and then transclude it by putting {{User:Iamzork/uptop}} on your user page

and then make changes as you like. Experiment, and if you need any more help then just ask. I'll be interested to see what you come up with :-) the wub "?!" 22:53, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Infantry Cat[edit]

The Category change you made to the UDR page {infantry regiments} doesn't work. Can you review please. Cheers Weggie 19:46, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's fixed now. I should probably create the category page before putting it on 157 pages next time. the wub "?!" 19:50, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

recognition[edit]

for your personal glorification: Image:UpsidedownBarnstar.png --popefauvexxiii 09:52, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aw, thanks! the wub "?!" 09:57, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just for my own future reference, I take it from your move that it is customary to tack on new requests for CU onto the old namespace rather than start a second request page as is done with AfD's? This is my first multiple checkuser so it would be nice to know the correct protocol going forward. Thanks!--Isotope23 18:31, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, that's how we tend to do it, and then use noinclude trickery to hide the old cases from the main page. This way we can keep related cases nicely together for future reference. Don't worry about making mistakes though, it took me a while to get my head around it (being so used to AfD), and I'm a clerk! the wub "?!" 18:35, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sneaky... Makes sense though, particularly in the case of repeat offenders. Thanks for the info... with what appears to be my impending adminship I'd like to make sure I know how this works in case I tell another editor to open a checkuser request based on an AN/I report.--Isotope23 18:40, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ooh, you up for adminship? *saunters over to RfA* the wub "?!" 18:46, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:PTA disbands.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:PTA disbands.png. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. ~ BigrTex 20:09, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, squish it. Looks like someone uploaded a better version. the wub "?!" 20:12, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, 3 more {{orfud}}s:

Snark[edit]

You're right, a few of those southern ones are rather superfluous, are they not? --Cyde Weys 17:57, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wondered if anyone would spot that edit summary. Listing those moves took AGES! the wub "?!" 18:03, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

del sort[edit]

I see you're part of the Deletion Sorting project. Could you have a look at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Deletion sorting#new list needed? It's pretty slow over there and I don't know if I'm even asking in the right place. — coelacan talk — 11:26, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Newyorkbrad's RfA[edit]

Thank you for your support on my RfA, which closed favorably this morning, as well as for your kind comments accompanying your !vote. I appreciate the confidence the community has placed in me and am looking forward to my new responsibilities. Please let me know if ever you have any comments or suggestions, especially as I am learning how to use the tools. Best regards, Newyorkbrad 19:41, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Which tempate ...[edit]

... did you use to place this notice? [2]

It looks like a rather useful template, but I can't find it in the lists of templates. -BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 23:14, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was based on {{cfdnotice}}, but I expanded it and adjusted the wording to fit the situation. It might be useful quite often, so if you want to make a separate template out of it then go ahead. the wub "?!" 23:37, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pages redirecting to themselves[edit]

I think you might have been trying to rename something, but it didn't really work. There's a whole load of pages now that just redirect to themselves in infinite loops, for example Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2006 November 2Qxz 15:14, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh nuts, I thought that I'd fixed that problem. Anyway I dug through my contributions and think I've fixed any that went wrong. the wub "?!" 15:29, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks – Qxz 17:34, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, wub, I see the discussion has been resolved, but I'm incapable of renaming categories - could you please? Cheers – DBD 20:48, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, by action, I mean the deletion of Category:British queen consorts, Category:English queen consorts and Category:Scottish queen consortsDBD 21:43, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okey-dokey. Thanks for emptying them. the wub "?!" 22:22, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No probs - I've done the same for Category:Anglo-Saxon queen consorts (i.e. to Category:Anglo-Saxon royal consorts) - hope that's alright... So can the former of those be deleted too? Cheers – DBD 07:36, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It certainly can. the wub "?!" 08:33, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Grand renaming ...[edit]

Thanks for taking care of adding all those redirects. I plan to build template files for February sometime soon. -- 15:06, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Auckland[edit]

Why did you attempt to delete the largest city cat? MadMaxDog 09:34, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Read the edit summary. the wub "?!" 09:46, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My bad, but I did go to the actual category summary page, and there, it only said that it was going to be renamed. Also, I consider the category itself a reasonable thing, and would have voted for keeping it had I been aware of the deletion. MadMaxDog 10:18, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
