Hilary Duff

Just letting you know that I reverted your edit to Hilary. That page is a dab page, and the list of people on it are known simply as "Hilary". Hillary Clinton and Edmund Hillary are frequently called simply "Hillary" in common use; that's why they're on there. Hilary Duff is already on the page Hillary. I guess it would be nice to distinguish those pages by more than just the different spelling, huh? --Auntof6 (talk) 03:09, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

In addition, there's a note at Hilary that says not to make this kind of addition. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:11, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Rok ict

A tag has been placed on Rok ict requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Netalarm 00:25, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Big Johnson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. The article Grow Indiana Media Ventures has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Has had notability and other tags for over a year (in some cases nearing three years). My searching to find something to improve the article with, in light of today's copy and paste spam attack on the page, turned up nothing to verify notability. Advice

Your article is more likely to survive at AfD if you meet the notability requirement, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. See WP:42 and WP:Notability (organizations and companies). The test is, have other people, independent of the company, thought it important and significant enough to write about?

In fact, if you show notability there is no reason why the article should go to AfD. The list of warnings on this talk page tell me that you have been having some trouble getting to grips with Wikipedia, which does indeed have a rather steep learning curve. WP:Your first article is a good guide worth studying, and so is the WP:FAQ/Organizations.

After adding sources, I suggest you ask for comments at WP:Requests for feedback before moving the article back into the main encyclopedia. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 15:33, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Indian reservation, without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. -Uyvsdi (talk) 20:33, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Uyvsdi

Penix (surname)

Please stop adding to disambiguation pages the names of people who do not have articles in Wikipedia. Disambiguation pages are intended to aid navigation to articles, not to list people who do not meet the notability criteria of Wikipedia:Notability (people). Thanks for uploading File:ZOMM LLC Logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Wiknic

Hi Jax, I'm glad that you are interested in holding a local Wiknic in Phoenix. I will be out of town for that date, but I am interested in seeing a Phoenix meetup get off the ground. As you might have noticed, we haven't been very successful in the past. Are you interested in acting as the main organizer for the event?

I would suggest that the Scottsdale Civic Center mall would be an excellent place. There is shade, grass, and seating, and a nice atmosphere. It's not the most central location, but a lot of local editors seem to be more East Valley folks, especially with ASU nearby. I can try to help find other locals, if you're interested. Dominic·t 23:34, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Dominic, I appreciate your vote of confidence, however, the only thing that I would have time to do is tell people where to show up, and that's it.--Jax 0677 (talk) 19:22, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
Hey, that in itself is a good start, Jax! Maybe update Wikipedia:Meetup/Phoenix or make Wikipedia:Meetup/Phoenix 2 with that.--Pharos (talk) 00:02, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Hey people, I am thinking that Margaret T. Hance Park may be a good venue for this event, since it is centrally located. Thoughts anyone?--Jax 0677 (talk) 17:21, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
Looks good to me, although I am only a New Yorker, rather than an, um... Phoenician.--Pharos (talk) 19:11, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
I'm not familiar with that park, but it could be great. You'll probably want to make sure there is ample shade, considering the climate, and probably seating. Considering that there is not much of a local community organized yet, it's probably better not to wait around worrying about the venue (which is what we did last time we tried something). If you are satisfied with the park, just be bold and update the meetup page with time and place, and we can set up a geonotice to direct Phoenix Wikipedians there. If there are any strenuous objections, someone will raise them, but it's more likely people just want to be told where to go. :-) Dominic·t 14:19, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Just WP:BE BOLD and declare the place and time, dude! :)--Pharos (talk) 19:39, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Dick Millman requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about it should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you can assert the notability of the subject, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

See the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. Jahahn (gab) 05:28, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Back From Ashes band photo.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Back From Ashes band photo.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. Yes, it is a publicity photo but the general policy for music groups has been to allow non-free photos when the band or group is no longer together. According to the article, the band is still performing. We hope (talk) 16:34, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Bfa yvonne-300x200.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Bfa yvonne-300x200.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 05:42, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Pete Hawley photo.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Pete Hawley photo.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 07:05, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Placeholders

First of all, the reason it was done twice is that I'm just working off a big list, so I don't check each article for previous edits and when something re-appears on the list I don't noticed that it has been on the list before.

Second, as for the reason for my edit, I'm updating the {{Infobox pageant titleholder}} template to support the image parameter, similar to {{Infobox person}} & also numerous other infobox templates. I'm now going through all the links replacing the photo param with an image param version which does the same thing. But for those that were using placeholder image, I was just removing the image rather than converting it as that was easier to do and placeholder image don't add much value anyway. -- WOSlinker (talk) 17:38, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on The Sammus Theory requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Mr. Vernon (talk) 01:17, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Inclusion of non-notable band

Welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. In general, a person, group or organization included in an article, as on Come Undone (Duran Duran song), should be notable. If you wish to add a mention of such a subject, please confirm that they are notable according to Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Thank you. Dl2000 (talk) 02:59, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Gun laws in Kansas, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://fbinicsystem.com/us-gun-laws-by-state/kansas-background-check-and-gun-laws.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Guns N' Roses history, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Guns N' Roses discography. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

VA shooting comments

Thanks for your support of the idea that Neutralhomer and I have proposed. Would you be able to go back and add your date stamp to your comments, so that they can be properly attributed to you? Thanks. HuskyHuskie (talk) 23:35, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

I moved the image of Chris you added over to the right side with the other band members. Seemed better to group together that way, and the chainsaw image applied more to the section of the article it draws next to. Also, the particular length of the images was messing with the section formatting in some display sizes. (If there's a manual of style for arranging images in a short article, I didn't look for it.  :) ) Rearrange them however, but I saved it since it worked a lot better in the preview for me. Gun Law copyright

I notice you tagging the copyright violation. I think this may be a case of the site copying wikipedia. It looks like almost every state page is duplicated in the same way, and I really doubt a single editor (or collective) went out and copied state by state from that site. Much more likely they took a dump of wikipedia and are just using the site as a google ad profit center Gaijin42 (talk) 17:48, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
