Hi Deb, I understand why my page was deleted, but I was wondering what more I need to include. I wanted to add the definition of this term that is being more commonly used and it was originally defined from the book I cited. There was also another woman who defined it in a parent magazine, would including that provide sufficient evidence to the term? Also for the Richard Watts page, if I include the why or importance, will that be enough to keep the page from not being deleted?

Deleted Page CSQ Research

Deb, you deleted page [CSQ Research] in June for A7, G11. Can I ask you to restore this Canadian Think Tank listing page please? A7 No Importance - Does not apply. Economics, Government Policy, Politics, World Peace NGO Organizations are discussed in more than 100 pages of research articles and books here; and G11 - Unambiguous advertising or promotion - Does not apply. The site documents Worthwhile Venture Impact Campuses, Transition Economics, Maturity Modelling for Government Policy Globally, Certification Programs for Projects Mgmt & Technology Investment, and articles also support Wiki documentation in Economics, Kondratiev Waves, World Peace and others. I just noticed the deletion - do you have the content text that I added here in May?

Deleted Page

Hi Deb, you just deleted a page Paul Goerss because of A7. This is a page directly translated from a German Wiki page with the same name. The content is the same. I am wondering if the existence of the German wiki page Paul Goerss is a good reason to have the page Paul Goerss in English wiki. Hi Deb, you deleted a Halal Nailpolish page for advertising. I was not advertising anyone specific brand, but it is a relatively new concept and not every brand makes it. I do believe the page is fine as is. Please let me know if you have additional thoughts on how to fix any issues.

Richard J. Tobin page

Hi Deb, last Friday I created the page of Richard J. Tobin, CEO of CNH Industrial. You made the redirect of the page to the CNH Industrial page quoting it was just a CV. How can I fix it? I add that I am a paid user, I will specify it on my profile, and that I have the permission to publish both the text and the images (I will attach an email authorization from the company). Time-dependent quantum harmonic oscillator with an applied linear electric field

Hi Deb, the Marc Kreisel page concerns a long-dead historical figure from the Los Angeles underground music scene whose bar closed in 2001, so there is nothing promotional about my well-referenced article. Thanks Sue

Hi Deb, I was still in the process of editing the Smartly page when you deleted it... now all the info is lost I think Would it be possible to reinstate it so I can continue editing? 197122ah (talk) 16:15, 20 July 2017 (UTC) 197122ah

Hi Deb, I see from your feedback that you deleted my page because it did not give clear context and 'did not reference independently'. I note that similar articles on wikipedia to the one I wrote on a analytical solution to the Schrödinger equation give a brief introduction to the concept. I am happy to do this if you please undelete the article. As for referencing the work, the reference I used is, to my knowledge, the only published solution to the time-dependent quantum harmonic oscillator with an applied linear electric field. The reference I gave is an independent reference; it is a doctoral thesis from the University of York, UK which has been peer reviewed. I am willing to add more references to say the known mathematics used by the proof, but if you would like a different reference to the proof itself, I'm afraid that does not exist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matt Hodgson (talkcontribs) 12:46, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi Deb, I'm not sure how best to respond to the messages you send me, I hope this is the correct place. Firstly, my apologies, as I'm sure you can tell I'm new to editing wikipedia – I will find the article in my history. Secondly, I would like to point out that there are only a hand-full of known analytical solutions to the Schrödinger equation, and even fewer to the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. The fact that this reference is the only work on the matter does not suggest its lack of notability, but more so its novelty. I added the solution to the 'List of quantum-mechanical systems with analytical solutions', which is exactly what it is. As for my conflict of interest, a self-citation is common practice in science. The article is not written to promote myself in any way. I wrote the article to contribute knowledge to Wikipedia (regardless of who wrote it). I will add it to the quantum harmonic oscillator page if you like, but you should note that the QHO is a very big subject in physics and therefore I think my time-dependent solution would be more misplaced than it being in the list in its own right. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matt Hodgson (talkcontribs) 14:00, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi Deb, thank you for your response. Although the solution is new, it certainly isn't a 'world-shattering idea'. It's simply another solution to the Schrödinger equation that was up to now unknown. I would think that no physics journal would publish it in its own right as it is not ground-breaking enough. I certainly do not plan on writing a paper centred around the idea just so it will be accepted onto Wikipedia. Nonetheless, I put it on Wikipedia as a way of cataloging the information, which I thought was exactly what Wikipedia was intended for – a way to make knowledge, that otherwise would be inaccessible, accessible to the general public. I might add that a doctoral thesis is a reference; it is peer-reviewed by world experts and to say that it is not a valid reference is offensive. If Wikipedia policy prevents this article from being accepted, then I will not push it, but I think the policies needs to be reconsidered. I would happily write to the appropriate authorities to make this point, if needed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matt Hodgson (talkcontribs) 19:16, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi Deb, are you telling me that the general public have ruled that PhD theses are not deemed proper reference material? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matt Hodgson (talkcontribs) 22:37, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi Deb, as you suggested I have read the guidelines. The reference I have used is made available to the public in some form, and by a third-party with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. Hence, as far as I can tell, it is a valid reference. Furthermore, as I wrote before, I feel that adding my material to an exciting article would detract from said article. Therefore, I will respectfully resubmit my page for your approval. I will make sure to add context to my page this time, and thank you for your feedback.

Hi Deb, thank you for the advice. I have tried my best to take your comments on board when rewriting my contribution to Wikipedia. However, I'm afraid I don't understand why you (or another editor of Wikipedia) should think that this topic is not notable enough for a page. The article I wrote is simply another solution to add to the list of known solutions to the Schrödinger equation. Hence, if the reference used is valid and the list wishes to be as complete as possible, why should it not be added? I don't see why a certain solution should be missed out of a list of known solutions when it is simply considered less notable because it only has one valid reference. I would argue that in a list of known solutions to an equation, all known solutions are notable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matt Hodgson (talkcontribs) 00:03, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

I did not even try to write an article about the web page before I saw our competitors in Wiki, now I wonder what is the difference. thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Uğur Çırak (talkcontribs) 12:10, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

Hi Deb, it is me Uğur Çırak, here you go this time you know who I am. I read Wiki but never written anything before that is why I don't know how to communicate with you well but you seem to know it very well. Let me first tell you that what you are doing is great service so I appreciate it but this does not prevent me to tell you 1. the fact that I am related to the company I wrote the article about is "against policy" so if I have some else to write about it, then it is gonna be okay? is that it or the content matters? Content was informative just like it is in Meetup.com's wiki page as a matter of fact the content is almost the same as we are competitors. 2. If you have a market capitalization criteria for what is advertisement and what is not then please say it, if it is facebook, google then not advertisement but speakmates then it is but if speakmates become a unicorn then it is not, sounds really strange doesn't it? There are a lot of articles about WEB PAGES? 3. I know I am wasting your time but you guys did mine by suggesting me that it would be OK to write an article about speakmates since you already had one for Meetup.com whose content is very very similar to mine. Well, I am sorry to waste your time but you guys should be to waste mine too... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Uğur Çırak (talkcontribs) 12:38, 15 August 2017 (UTC) Hi Deb, it is me again Uğur Çırak. Thanks for trying to keep this place in order. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Uğur Çırak (talkcontribs) 14:39, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

Hi Deb I noticed you deleted my article on InvestiRE as it appeared to be promotional. If you could provide some feedback I am willing to edit the article in order to make it compliant with Wikipedia policies.

Tag on Renaud Piarroux page

I am not used with wikipedia but have carefully read the wikipedia pages and can't really see why the tag on Renaud Piarroux page was put. All the words in this article can be verified. He is currently helping Haitian authorities eradicating cholera. In the last two weeks, many newspapers and TV have cited his work (see at the end). This work is resumed in a book intitled "deadly river" written by an emeritus professor of epidemiology at UCLA, which seams to be necessary to appear in Wikipedia.

So please could you be more specific and help to improve this article? Which part has to be deleted?

I try to delete some details. Would the following version agree to you?

Dr M Donnadieu

Dark Series, Books 24-30

That would be this list:

I got everything from the official site of the author, Christine Feehan. Thought putting the link to read the first chapter directly from the site would be enough to show where I got everything from. I'm sorry for assuming. It is my fault. Please tell me how to fix this so that others may learn about her wonderful books. As for Dark Legend, Dark Symphony, and Dark Hunger, they didn't go to their own pages on the books, but sent people back to Christine Feehan's wikipedia page. This is all so confusing. I even put their awards and everything. What was wrong with them?

Hi there. I've started a new initiative, the Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. It's a long term goal to bring about 10,000 article improvements to the UK and Ireland. Through two contests involving just six or seven weeks of editing so far we've produced over 1500 improvements. Long term if we have more people chipping it and adding articles they've edited independently as well from all areas of the UK then reaching that target is all possible. I think it would be an amazing achievement to see 10,000 article improvements by editors chipping in. If you support this and think you might want to contribute towards this long term please sign up in the Contributors section. No obligations, just post work on anything you feel like whenever you want, though try to avoid basic stubs if possible as we're trying to reduce the overall stub count and improve general comprehension and quality. So any time you feel like doing work on Welsh history or whatever just add your entries to the masterlist with a brief description like "destubbing by Deb" etc. Thanks.

I'll update that main list once the West Country challenge is complete though so don't worry about adding your entries for the contest to it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:19, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Deb. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi Deb, i understand that my page had room for improvement, could you please provide me for a draft so I can improve it without starting over? Thanks! Jaramalur 12 (talk) 18:41, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi, at Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge we're striving to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations for the UK and Ireland and inspire others to create more content. In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! If you think you'd be interested in collaborating on this and helping reach the target quicker, please sign up and begin listing your entries there as soon as possible! Thanks.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:40, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Revision of a page subjected to speedy deletion

My apologies for not getting it right the first time round. You speedily deleted my proposed article about Boaz Tsaban, referring to A7. I have revised it and left it at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Boaz_Tsaban for a week or so to get further feedback. It seems to me that Tsaban does have sufficient importance, though of course that is a subjective opinion. As now noted, he is a recipient of two national awards. While the Nessyahu prize was for his PhD thesis, it was deemed top in the country. The later Krill prize, of course, was six years after the PhD. While the number of his publications (which I have not noted) is significant it seems to me that he has produced lots of significant mathematics rather than lots of routine stuff. Some of that significant work has been referred to and cross-referenced with other sections of Wikipedia. I'd be grateful for advice you might have for this newcomer to contributing to Wikipedia. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:42, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Feedback concerning advertising: Marbella International University Centre

Good morning Deb,

Can you please tell us why did you qualify some of the real information promotional? I would like your clarifications.

We used references to validate all the agreements and we just wrote the facts, so we are not sure which part you considered advertising.

I look forward to receiving your feedback. Kind regards.

Good morning Deb,

I checked all the information that you sent me and i have a few questions, i'll try to clarify the situation and i hope that you can spare some time to help me edit the article to make it neutral.

I'm currently working in the marketing department but i didn't try to use wikipedia for promotion, the fact is that all our competitors are in wikipedia and this increase their reputation so i believe that we should have one too, just to inform about the university.

Regarding the paid-contributions, if i understand it well, that was made for editors that decided to write about one topic because they were paid to do exactly so, for example, you are a high ranked wikipedia user and i pay you to create the article, that's not the case, i am not paying anyone and the university is not paying me to write the article.

Regarding the COI, you might be right, that's why i requested help to write the article as neutral as possible, in fact i asked one of our professors who used to be a journalist to review it.

I also checked the articles about our competitors such as IE (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IE_Business_School), SLU Madrid Campus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Louis_University_Madrid_Campus), Hult (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hult_International_Business_School)...

They use more promotional phrases than we do, for example:

"IE Business School is recognized as one of the leading business schools in the world and offers one of the most prestigious international MBA programs."

"Hult International Business School is the lead sponsor of the Hult Prize (formerly Hult Global Case Challenge), an annual international case competition launched in 2010 that asks students to find solutions to global social challenges."

"Hult has a student body comprising over 130 nationalities and an alumni network of over 16,000 professionals working across the globe."

"The student body at SLU-Madrid comprises approximately 750 students from over 65 different countries. English is the language of instruction, with selected courses offered in Spanish. The average class size is 14.8, and the student to faculty ratio is 11:1."

"Approximately 1,900 students from 90 countries undertake degree programs at IE each year. There are approximately 5,600 annual participants in the school's executive education programs. The school has offices in 28 countries and approximately 40,000 alumni residing in 102 countries.[1]"

A section about "Partner universities and institutions", same as we do. Another section about "programs" ...

To be honest with you, i don't see the difference between these articles and the one we wrote, also i don't see any reference to COI and it's obvious that this was their doing.

I don't mind changing the content of the article to make it more informative and less promotional, can you point me which parts do you think are promotional so i can improve them?

As i told you earlier and as you could see in the article, we are an international university that has worldwide students and has appeared on worldwide newspapers, also we have agreements with other well known universities around the world, i added references from trusted sources to confirm these facts.

Thanks in advance for your understanding and i look forward to receiving your thoughts. Kind Regards. Nacho Veiga. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NachoVeiga (talkcontribs) 11:28, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Article deleted

Dear Deb,

I have written a page entitled Sabine Chaouche who is a researcher. This page has been deleted. However, the information was based on reliable websites (publishing houses, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Sorbonne university web page) etc. Please, check the notes and references. I am not quite sure to understand why you deleted this page since the author has made an outstanding contribution to the history of theatre (see the list of publications). Aline Di Samba (talk) 17:18, 12 November 2016 (UTC) With many thanks and best wishes, Aline Di Samba.

Actually your page was entitled Sabine chaouche, which is not a valid title. I've replied on your talk page advising what you can do to bring the article up to wikipedia standards. Why does she not have an article in French-language wikipedia? Deb (talk) 17:27, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. Please can you tell me why you have deleted all the pages I've spent ages creating this morning? They were purely informational about the books by William COntrol. I did mention where they could be bought but that can easily be removed without taking down the entire page. I'm really not happy about it so please sort this thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pippinangus (talkcontribs) 11:27, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

Hmm, not sure how pages are inappropriate when they're purely information on published books. They fit the guidelines as far as I'm concerned. Perhaps you could point out your issue? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pippinangus (talkcontribs) 12:28, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

Reason of deletion Elite Singles?

Hi Deb, Could you tell me the reasons of the deletion of this page? If it's too advertising we can make it more neutral, and it would be very good insight so our next pages meet the criteria from the start. I think the topic of the page in itself is important, since we are now number 5 of the online dating industry worldwide. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Deb.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Answer: article deletion (EliteSingles)

Hi Deb, Thank you for the very fast answer! My bad, I was unaware of the COI policy. We still believe that a page for EliteSingles on Wikipedia makes sense. As I understand I shouldn't edit pages related to me/my organization myself (we own other brands which have very old wikipedia pages not up to date), but only request an edit. Can I suggest to someone to write on the topic EliteSingles? Also,is it a COI to edit the Wikidata of this brand as well? Answer: Article Deletion (BookMyForex)

Hi Deb,

I see you've deleted the BookMyForex page that I created. You have done it twice and I understand that you've to do it if it does not match the guidelines. The last one that you deleted, you left a message on my talk page mentioning that it was promotional. I didn't disagree, however, I was working with an editor here, who was helping me to clean it. But You still deleted it. Then I went on and incorporated all the suggestions that were mentioned and followed guidelines and recreated the page, it was approved as non-promotional. Some changes were suggested and some edits were done by few wikipedia editors/contributors. No other editor had any issues with the page even the ones who edited it. The new page followed every guideline and still you deleted it without even giving me warning or suggesting an edit or where I went wrong. I completely understand that it is your right not to suggest or inform the page create. However, if the page followed the guidelines, why was it deleted and if it didn't, then normally other editors put up the 'improve this page because it looks promotional template' at the top of the page asking contributors to improve it. None of that was done and you deleted it and also restricted me to recreate it. I am just surprised that you are one of the only editor who takes a hardliner approach or maybe you did it on purpose. If the page I created was advertisement of the said company, then show me a page on here which isn't. If we have to follow the guidelines, same goes for you. I feel that your decision was biased and I have no idea why. I would really appreciate if you could give me a balanced and neutral point of view why this page was deleted?Bashir M (talk) 12:35, 17 November 2016 (UTC)Bashir M (talk) 12:35, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Deb, I have tried to thoroughly follow the rules as you explained them to me. However nothing happens. We are still a 9 years old company with more than 15 millions users worlwide, with no wikipedia page. I read again the page about COI. I do have an external relationship, but strongly believe that the submitted article had a neutral point of view. Of course our intent is not to advertise, but considering that we are bigger than most of the other actors we should be in that list. Let me know if you agree or not :) And what should be the next steps after requesting an article. Best, Jonas --Jonas.junger (talk) 08:55, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Deb, I posted a page for Del-Ton Incorporated this week, and you deleted it for: "No credible indication of importance (individuals, animals, organizations, web content, events): unreferenced)". I did include references, including third party references. I am not a stakeholder in the company in any way, not even as a customer. They have been manufacturing firearms for over 15 years, and I was doing research on the topic when I discovered they did not have an entry here, whereas similar companies such as Bushmaster and DPMS Panther Arms do. Citations needed on Rebecca Strickson page

Hi Deb, thanks very much for your advice on the Rebecca Strickson page that I created. This was my first-ever Wikipedia article created from scratch, although I've made small edits before, and was prompted by a BBC article about adding women. As I'm a beginner I'm keen to learn how to do it properly. I was wondering how many citations would normally be necessary as I tried to find lots and had about a dozen, including from the Telegraph and Royal Mail. What types of things would you advise citing in addition to this? Or is it about types of sources? Much appreciated. ~~Possiblymaybeme~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Possiblymaybeme (talkcontribs) 23:32, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

Article deletion even if neutral

Dear Deb, I'm just trying to add a wikipedia entry about a software that was released recently. I spent weeks learning how wikipedia works and creating a coherent (and neutral) article with a table of content.

1- First I get told that there is a copyright infringement 2- Then I reply that no there is none, that I wrote the text myself and I know the developers 3- My article gets deleted 4- I removed all the text beside the release date and 1 unique and neutral sentence for description and repost the article 5- You've removed my article saying it was unambiguous advertising.

How is "This software was released on this date and does this" advertising in my case, but not for every other software out there? This is confusing.

Do I need to ask someone else to post the article? Please just tell me what to do, what I did wrong or if I should just give up.

Thanks

Dear Deb, Thank you for your reply.

I do know what a COI is and my article was not promotional or advertising but simply an informative source. You still didn't tell me what is wrong with the content of my article. You just presume that I am trying to use Wikipedia for advertising purposes but I am the most competent person to write on the topic.

Why is Wikipedia hosting information only on widely popular softwares often made by big companies and not others from independent developers that are more specialized? Is popularity a criteria to have an article about a software accepted on Wikipedia?

Thanks again,

RedVoice, LLC deletion

Please help me understand why exactly the RedVoice page I created today was deleted. I would also like to get the resource page back for future improvement.

I read the previous pages reasons for deletion. The problem stated on the previous deletion was that it was deleted because it didn't have resources. This one had 3 resources, 2 of which were made within the last year, including one in the last month. Two of the three resources were neutral resources, while the third one was a Premiere Radio Networks press release showing they handle distribution for the RedVoice games. So it did address that issue, and the fact that Premiere Radio Networks assists them ties in another major radio network that is also listed. There was also new content, so it wasn't identical to the previous pages deletion. It also didn't violate any type of copyrights.

RedVoice is producing more content than groups like Nevada Sports Network at this time, and it had content showing they plan on beginning a game of the week in the next couple of years. It also showed they plan on going into college basketball. In other words they plan on becoming more major than Touchdown Radio and Compass Media Networks, both which have pages that are ok.

So why exactly is RedVoice not acceptable? Is it just because it had the same name as a previously deleted page? Thank you for your time. Bigddan11 (talk) 22:44, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

GlobalSecurity.org

Deb,

Robert_McClenon left me a message saying that I "may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice." So I just tried to do that, and found that I was unable to prevent its deletion, because it had already been deleted!

At most, I was given a few hours to remove the notice. This not a reasonable amount of time.

The thing that was deleted was not even an article per se; it was a request for article translation from the German Wikipedia. Said request was created in accordance with the instructions found at WP:TRANSLATETOHERE . Those instructions told me to create the article on English Wikipedia as a stub article, and immediately tag it with a translation template.

Yes, the article was deleted four years ago. I read the reasons given for its deletion, and they reflected a profound misunderstanding of the notability of this think tank. So I gave an explanation of that underneath my request for translation. Would the request for translation still exist, if I had said nothing about the reasons the article was inappropriately deleted four years ago?

Furthermore, notability is a thing that changes over time. If four years is not sufficient, how much time must pass before a second discussion about a subject's notability may be held?

Is there a way to restore my request for article translation? GPS Pilot (talk) 01:34, 24 December 2016 (UTC)

There is certainly a misunderstanding here, and it is yours, GPS Pilot. You did not create an article, you created a request in article space, containing your own views on whether the article was notable or not. This is not a way to request a translation. Please read Wikipedia:Translation for further instructions. Robert explained this clearly to you in his initial advice. Deb (talk) 14:28, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
Deb,
Yes, I created a translation request in article space. I read WP:TRANSLATETOHERE several days before you directed me to that page. It instructed me to create the article on English Wikipedia as a stub article, and immediately tag it with a translation template. In which space should this be done, if not in article space?
And then I went above and beyond the WP:TRANSLATETOHERE instructions by adding some facts about the subject's notability. The reaction to my going above and beyond seems rather like the Soup Nazi (if you're familiar with that character). "NO ARTICLE TRANSLATION REQUEST FOR YOU!" If going above and beyond was out of line, you could have simply deleted the offending lines, instead of the entire article translation request. As Wikipedia editors, using a scalpel, not a hatchet, is within our power. Doesn't that seem like a more reasonable approach?
And I would appreciate some answers to my other questions:
  • Notability is a thing that changes over time. If four years is not sufficient, how much time must pass before a second discussion about a subject's notability may be held?
  • Robert said I may remove the proposed deletion notice. Do you think a few hours was a reasonable amount of time to do that?
  • Is there any way to restore my request for article translation?
GPS Pilot (talk) 20:44, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
Also, Deb, you have not acted in accordance with deletion criteria WP:G4. This criteria "excludes pages that are not substantially identical to the deleted version". My request for translation, which was nothing like the deleted version of the article, is excluded from WP:G4. GPS Pilot (talk) 20:59, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
You didn't create the article as instructed. You just created a request for translation. A request for translation is not an article, even when it has a stub notice attached to it. You're correct in saying I shouldn't have used G4. I should have used G6: Deleting pages unambiguously created in error.Deb (talk) 17:17, 25 December 2016 (UTC)
I stated back on 24 Dec that what I created was a request for translation, not an article. That was my intent. And I believe I created it in accordance with the WP:TRANSLATETOHERE instructions. (No one has explained how I deviated from those instructions -- except to say that I should not have done this in article space -- but when I ask "in which space then should I have done this?" they give no answer.) So your strident complaint that I "DID NOT CREATE AN ARTICLE" makes no sense. I am trying to find out how WP:G6 applies; i.e., I am trying to find out how the page was created in error.
And you continue to avoid answering the three reasonable bulleted questions I asked above. Having contributed to WP for over 10 years, I am not a newbie. I am much more helpful to newbies than you and Robert have been to me. For the sake of the Wikipedia community, please use a mentoring approach with less-experienced editors, not an antagonistic approach. GPS Pilot (talk) 17:55, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
Replied on your talk page. Deb (talk) 12:12, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
Deb wrote,
This is getting very tedious. You claim to be an experienced contributor but you have made a total of 220 edits in your eleven years here - and that's counting the ones that have been deleted. It's been explained to you multiple times that you don't create a request for translation in article space. The instructions which you've been referred to clearly state that you should "create the article on English Wikipedia as a stub article, explaining or defining the subject of the article in a sentence or two ". You did not do this. Instead you created a request in article space that should have gone in Wikipedia:Requested articles. Maybe these instructions are complicated, but you will have to master them if you are ever going to make a significant contribution to this encyclopedia.
The instructions that I have been referring people to (WP:TRANSLATETOHERE) clearly state that there are two methods for requesting a translation:
  1. one can create the article on English Wikipedia as a stub, then immediately tag it with a translation template; OR
  2. one can "add a page request red link in the Requested articles Project section with the proposed title of the article which will contain the translation adding an interwiki link to the foreign-language Wikipedia page(s). Note that fewer people will likely see a request created using this method."
I did not find this "complicated" at all.
The second method seems inferior, as editors are warned that fewer people will see the request. So I attempted to follow the first method. But you seem to be telling me that I should not have even attempted the first method. You say that I should not have created the translation request in "article space." I have asked multiple times: for editors following the first method described at WP:TRANSLATETOHERE, if "article space" is not the place to create stub articles, is there some other space in which they should be created? The lack of a straight answer to this question is indeed very tedious. I do not know of any other space in which one can create a stub article, as directed by the first method of requesting a translation.
What I find complicated is that you quote this portion of WP:TRANSLATETOHERE -- "create the article on English Wikipedia as a stub article" -- and then you go on to complain about how I created a request for translation in article space. Perhaps you are conflating the two approved methods of requesting a translation. GPS Pilot (talk) 22:15, 12 March 2017 (UTC)

Joanna Gaines A10

I noticed you deleted Joanna Gaines (reality star) and said that the existing redirect exists because she isn't notable. I couldn't find any AfD or other discussion in the logs. I came across it after adding sources and expanding Chip Gaines to rescue that article from BLP PROD. The couple almost certainly meets WP:GNG, WP:NACTOR, and possibly WP:NAUTHOUR. If there is an AfD I should be aware of before starting to work on the Joanna Gaines article, I'd like to know, so I thought I would ask you. Thanks! Deleting talk page warnings is fine so long as somebody is keeping tabs and making sure that repeat offences get properly escalated - it's certainly useful for showing us that the user has read a particular warning.

If that's happened here and Gallura has continued with COI/peacock article creations after receiving a COI warning, and if COI promotion as part of PR work is pretty much all they've been doing at Wikipedia, ANI seems like the next step. (No point bothering WP:COIN, I think, when she seems to have admitted the conflict of interest.) --McGeddon (talk) 19:51, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Why dont you have a look at some of my articles on, for instance, Hans Rehfisch? Just a thought. Or perhaps you don't like to look at the evidence in front of your eyes. I wrote that because I met someone who told me about him at a party. I guess that constitutes too close a close connection and COI, in your book. I deleted those entries in my Talk page because they were in bright red, which I find offensive, as one of your number was repeatedly trying to goad me into completing a page I had no interest in completing. Do feel free to reinstate them if you really must. The others were disambiguation pages. They had a note on them saying I'm free to delete them. Make no mistake, I have not admited a conflict of interest. Gallura (talk) 20:36, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

I'm afraid you did that just today - right here. Deb (talk) 22:13, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Atomic Game Engine

Hi Deb, You recently deleted the page I created for Atomic Game Engine as advertising/COI. While I understand the COI considering I'm a contributor to the engine (it is open source and I contribute in that capacity), the reason for adding the page in the first place was to allow inclusion without a redlink on List of game engines. It is/was certainly not advertising. I followed the pattern of other game engines in the list, which is why I included a feature list.

I understand from Request Edit that I need to add a new section to request an edit by someone impartial. However how would I go about requesting the addition of a new page like this, so that the entry in the table is valid? Should I add a request section on the game engine list, with instructions/request to add a new page for the full topic as well?

Thanks, Matt --Mattbenic (talk) 13:52, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

Atomic Game Engine

Thanks, I'll try that. --Mattbenic (talk) 14:00, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

deleted Atria publishing group

Hi Deb--I created the Atria Publishing Group page and was planning to work on it today. I took a break to drink my coffee and get dressed for the day. I returned to my desk to find in that brief time it had been noted for speedy deletion, and then very speedily deleted. I appreciate the speediness, however I am an experienced editor and will now need to re-start the article. It would be nice if there was at least a day or two break. Looking for a template

Hi Deb, I'm looking for the template you used here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Sdakshay#January_2017 I've made my own kind of lame version, this looks a lot better & would be useful on NPP. Thanks! JamesG5 (talk) 16:30, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Jamie Maddison

Hi Deb, the reason I've asked for this page to be deleted is in order to redirect Jamie Bunchuk here. User:Tianshansky created JM as a new article, claiming that Bunchuk is now known as Maddison, and turn the original page into a redirect, thus losing the page's history. As I understand it, JM needs to be deleted, and JB moved to JM. Cheers IdreamofJeanie (talk) 16:57, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi Deb!

Thanks so much for taking the time to go through the article I submitted Dale Peterson (Director). I'm new to the submitting process but love Wikipedia so I'm glad I've got an experienced user on the case! I see you deleted the article with reason of (I think it said A7) - Lack of evidence to prove importance or something like that :) Well there is plenty out there I can use to prove that the director I'm submitting for is indeed notable enough, I'm sure I submitted the links but if not I can send you some?

Many thanks,

Doing time...

Wikipediazzz has just been reblocked indef as your 4 decades, 7 years, 27 days, 18 hours, 24 minutes and 43 seconds block didn't stop them from posting junk. (I was only just beaten to the reblock...) If you've dome any others like that, it might be worth indeffing instead. Peridon (talk) 17:34, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Did I do that? I can't imagine how, but great! Deb (talk) 17:35, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
There's a bug, apparently. If you use any length not in the dropdown, it does some weird calculation involving 1970 for the display, but applies the time you said to the actual block. Yours was for 12 hours, it seems. There's a thread at VPT about it - I didn't find this stuff out myself. Those that know about these things are looking into it, but advice is to stick to the presets for the time being. I was beaten to the reblock by Widr, and there's a little bit on his page about it too. Peridon (talk) 18:01, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

AECOsim Building Designer - new page deleted

Hi Deb, Sorry this is my first wikipedia edit. I wasn't aware of the extent of COI restrictions or the request change workflow. I added this page as the references elsewhere are hideously out of date (2012). I work for the software vendor Bentley Systems in user support so only intended to provide an up to date reference to the term, not an advertisement. MT Bentley (talk) 13:01, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi Deb, I just re-created the Cairo (band) page and it looks like it was deleted. It was there for years until I tried to up date the information the other night, Being new to Wiki I was blocked because I made a username that was unacceptable. Since then I just created a new account, found the cached web page and cloned and updated the information. All information was true and correct. Why did you delete it? I will humbly correct any and all mistakes I made. It is very important to the history of our band Cairo (band) that the page is there. Please help.

Thank you for your time! Jeff Brockman founding member of the band Cairo. Prog2017 (talk) 09:52, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi Deb, nice to meet you. Could you explain the conflict of interest on the page I created please as there is no affiliation with this person but I would like her to be represented properly on Wikipedia. Could you please leave her name as Triona and not Carville as it just reads and sounds strange. Deleted Page

Hi Deb! Saw that our page wwas deleted when we went back to edit it. It was not trying to be promotional on purpose, our writer did not do it correctly. We have a new writer that will follow the guidlines better. Is it possible to undo the delete or can I create a new Serbsican Page? Thank you! --Serbsican (talk) 15:48, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

I know my username is Echo9001, but the article was not autobigraphical. It was just a coincidence. If that wasn't the only reason why you deleted the article, that's ok, just making sure you knew. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Echo9001 (talkcontribs) 21:44, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

Kerry Lee Crawford

Hello Deb, I noticed that the page named 'Kerry Lee Crawford' was deleted today with the claim that the page had already a discussion page for deletion and you reached that the page should be deleted. O.K. I'm not the author that made the first copy of the article. Yet, I built another one from scratch and tried to be accurate when it comes to creation, phrasing and citing sources. Can you tell me why wasn't I notified that the page is proposed for deletion instead of deleting it immediately? I have put a lot of hard work in order to come up with that result. Can you point me to a reason for deletion with the article itself? And what should have I done when creating the page after knowing the subject was deleted before? Thanks!Khaled Abolaynain (talk) 18:28, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

  • Well, there is a deletedwiki that somehow copies what is deleted here. I have questioned about it and they told me it was not part of wikipedia. Plus, I had a copy of the first one and changed a lot in it. I searched a lot. Some people even contributed to it. After creation, there is one admin (or someone of higher privileges) who reviewed the article and approved it. Can you tell me please what exactly is wrong in the article so I can work on fixing that?Khaled Abolaynain (talk) 19:09, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
  • I have checked the discussion and you determined that the guy was not notable enough. Although I have no access now to the final version of the article, I have some evidence to demonstrate notability of this guy. He has been featured on CKFG-FM (already has a wikipedia page), CityNews (already has a wikipedia page). Am I missing something?Khaled Abolaynain (talk) 19:51, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
  • As for the guy who approved the article, the notification disappeared after deleting the article. And I don't really remember his name but that has happened. The draft only was proposed for deletion because it was a duplicate after publishing the article.Khaled Abolaynain (talk) 19:50, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
  • Who is that one that tagged my article as promotional? I received a notification after posting like that: The page Kerry Lee Crawford has been reviewed. But the notification disappeared after deletion like I said. Can you point me please to what is wrong with my article? Thank you. Khaled Abolaynain (talk) 20:18, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
  • If you mean the draft, it was only proposed for deletion because it was by then a duplicate after publishing the main article. Khaled Abolaynain (talk) 20:21, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
  • You are beginning to speak in a really unfriendly way and I feel offended. I told you, deb, it was notable when saying: "He has been featured on CKFG-FM (already has a wikipedia page), CityNews (already has a wikipedia page)". And you never responded. The article was approved the first time I wrote it and you deleted it. I DID NOT use promotional wording and tried to be as objective as I can. If you look closely at the draft, you will see the problem is that it's just a duplicate of the main one. Can you point me please to the rejection with the explanation "Unremarkable person"? An undeclared paid editor

Hi Deb! An editor reverted your post with the edit summary "...The page was not created as promotional but for purely informational purposes about a fashion brand with heritage. Similar page for another brand - Karen Millen...". That is not true. This editor clearly works for Xanda and edited/created Ariella Fashions, Menaye Donkor and Lotus Restaurant, all Xanda clients. The only article edited not clearly a Xanda client is Casa Tua. This editor seems to be here mainly to promote their clients. Thoughts? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:34, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

First time speaking to you. I saw you blocked Themasterofdenial, not sure if you saw this edit but they appear to be a sock as well. Thanks for the work you do for wiki Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 18:40, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

RE: Themasterofdenial

Thanks for dealing with the said user. I've already been through enough trouble on Wikia. There happens to be another user on Wikia with the same username, though I can't say whether the two are related or if it's another user on Wikia that I've had to put up with that may have been trying to impersonate them here. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 00:01, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

I'm not sure whether it's the same user, but it seems that this user is trying to bother me as well, claiming that he is not the same as the user that left me that message. Whether or not it is the same user is not my concern. My concern is that this user is a user which I have had to put up with on Wikia, as he has been harassing me for the past half-year. So I really would like it if he could be asked to leave me alone. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 11:05, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
Hi, Deb. The user Themasterofdenial is impersonating my Wikia account. I will leave you both alone, but I would first like to alert you and C.Syde65 to this fact.
Thanks,
ThemasterofdenialREAL (talk) 11:07, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
To be honest I couldn't care less if these two users are the same or not the same. I have warned this user above me to stop interacting with me, as I cannot afford to take anymore of their recipes for trouble, whether they are intended in good faith or not. I am 50% convinced that the first user was indeed an impostor, but I don't want either of these users, whoever they are (since I am almost certain I know who they both are), to contact me. I seriously have had enough to cope with already from them both. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 11:12, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Unsatisfactory solution

If find this to be an unsatisfactory solution to the problem. Highmead Dairies Ltd appears to be a non-notable company. As such the page should either be improved or deleted. Redirecting to Llanybydder violates the principle of least astonishment since the article about Llanybydder does not once mention the Highmead Dairies. A user ending up on this page via the redirect will have no idea why they got there. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:51, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

Well, that isn't true, is it? I guess you were writing this while I was in the process of making the changes. Deb (talk) 12:12, 14 March 2017 (UTC)

Highmead Dairies Ltd

Hi Deb, I completely understand your concern but I'm not sure what references would be needed to confirm the business' notability. I have a logo and an online news article if it would help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by CustomPackaging (talkcontribs) 20:53, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

I found a couple of news articles and I think they will do the job in the context of the Llanybydder article. It seems to me that it's not a notable company in its own right, but as an important employer in the locality it's worth including in that article. Its historical importance to the development of the local economy may be significant.Deb (talk) 12:10, 14 March 2017 (UTC)

cor-type

Cor-type can link to the country's specific article page on coronations (i.e. "Coronations in Poland", "Coronations in Norway", etc.) as you can read in the documentation (scroll done)... I hope this clears the confusion and I have undone your reverts. Regards. --Re5x (talk) 13:29, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

@Re5x: Unfortunately that premise is an anachronism; many of these countries did not exist as they are recognised today, and your edit at Richard III of England is a good example. It is, in fact, the very reason you have been just been reverted there :) — O Fortuna! Imperatrix mundi. 14:35, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
@Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi: Hmm... I believe England is described in the history section of the main article? Anyway... Maybe it can be excised there if you wish but in more modern case like "Norway"'s Haakon VII I think it still fits. Regards. --Re5x (talk) 14:41, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

Happy First Edit Day

Happy First Edit Day, Deb, from the Wikipedia Birthday Committee! Have a great day!

Themasterofdenial again

Themasterofdenial is back with more crap. This time he restored a message on my talk page against my will, even though I have told him before, I do not want him trying to contact me, and that he is to stay away from anything related to me, since he's caused enough trouble for me for a lifetime. I want him to stop trying to aggravate me at all costs. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 20:34, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

Also I do not care if he was trying to restore a message because of these guidelines. He is only doing this to aggravate me and for my own personal safety, I must keep him from stalking me at all costs. I also wish I could have my talk page archived if that's okay. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 20:40, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
Ah, looks like you messaged me before I wrote the second comment! :D ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 20:41, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
No I don't mind at all. I was tense when I wrote that message - just like I always am when he's around - anyway. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 20:42, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
The said user hasn't made any attempts to restore the message that I removed, but he's still looking for an excuse to counter what has been said to him, as shown here. I simply cannot allow that message to be restored, because doing so would be in violation of my current tactics to put a stop to any further association with him. I seriously couldn't care less what his reasons are. If it really bothered him that much, he should have told an admin, but without so much as making one single edit anywhere inside my own user space. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 06:22, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
That's great since I don't feel that I would have been able to respond myself, since I don't think I would have been able to do so without sounding irritated, and even if I could have, I don't think it would have had any effect, since it's already clear that this is just a game to him.
I instead posted those messages that I would have posted on the said user's talk page in my sandbox since I felt that I needed to post them, though I removed them since I never intended to keep the messages I'd written since I was unsure they were suitable for this kind of situation. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 07:08, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

RE: Archiving your talk page

Ah, right. I tried archiving it earlier but it said that I didn't have the permissions needed to be able to create talk page archives. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 21:11, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

T:DYK and "recently created"

I saw that you think that "archive" is misleading at T:DYK - but WP:Recent additions is the misleading title, in fact. It is an archive of what's appeared at DYK, and articles don't have to be "recent" to make it to DYK - they can be expanded five-fold, for instance, or new promotions to GA status. "Recently created articles" is therefore wrong. "Archive" is also the term used in the TFA and OTD boxes on the main page for the link to the page of previous days' listings. Would you be willing to revert and discuss your change? Regards, BencherliteTalk 14:53, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

The article Fred penner has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Seems to be a redirect that has taken a life of its own. The article is also available at Fred Penner, which I presume is what it was moved too.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Skamecrazy123 (talk) 16:48, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

Sorry for the PROD notice Deb, but it seems like the article has been created there despite the redirect that should have been left after the move. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 16:51, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

It was actually a blank list. Here's the total content: "Important videos is the name of the most viewed playlist on YouTube. None of the videos themselves are among the most viewed." Make some sense of that if you can, FIM! :-) Deb (talk) 09:01, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Bint Al Bilaad

Materialscientist guided me about the use of sandbox. I am newbie here. And obviously deleting is easy way out cause no body has time to correct others article. So, can you just give me access to my deleted article's content and I experiment on it in sandbox. And if lucky, with help of wiki society, I might be able to publish my first article. Zeeshantariq01 (talk) 08:23, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

No, I don't have that content. As a matter of fact, I was editing the article (removing the probable content flagged as advert) during the time of your deletion. And when i save it, it said, The page is deleted and I was like wow! I attended an exhibition in Lahore, Pakistan. This brand was there. And looked it up on internet to study about it and found nothing on wikipedia. And thought that like other pakistani brand e.g khaadi, chenone etc they should have an article too. Because thats what wikipedia is all about, isn't it? encyclopedia for everything. Zeeshantariq01 (talk) 08:55, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Wow, Great, Thanks alot. :) And I hope you won't mind if I reached out to you again for some help. Cheers Zeeshantariq01 (talk) 09:32, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Hi Deb, Thanks for your review of my recent posting on T. Sadow. As per your suggestion on connected contributions, I shall avoid future edits (apart from making corrections you suggest on the current article) and will request edits in future. I note your valid suggestions for the need for citations. I would appreciate your assistance in identifying the promotional wording that lead you to add the advertising tag. As many other posters on your talk page have suggested this was not the intention and the post was written after referring to guidelines and making efforts to provide external citations. Finally I would like to argue on your use of the notability tag. This person is member of several public organisations in this country as well as a publicly quoted industry professional in print, radio and television (NB: I am not familiar how to link the former two and citations provided to local newspapers all have paywalls to some users but are accessible freely from public libraries in this country - hence your inability to view the articles online should not justify the notability tag, if this was a contributing factor). Thanks for your feedback on improving the article. azupancich (talk) 19:23, 6 May 2017

Hi Deb the reason the articles Alex Ruhunda and Andrew Baryayanga are invisible on such pages is because no one has reviewed them. French Books on India

Hello, Deb (talk), I would like to request the recovering of the contribution "French Books on India" on Wikipedia. Regarding the supposed conflict of interest, I declare that I am not co-ordinator of the project and I do not receive any economic profit for editing the article on Wikipedia. I know the project and its contribution to digital culture. It is a grass-roots international WIKI-style project, not a project by one person or group in one place. The project promotes the common good, by offering community heritage groups a multilingual platform that combines browsing and reading and that presents the encounter between two major world cultures: French and Indian. I would like also to highlight the quality and innovation of the project, which is continuously developing and has upto 1260 views a month from 50 countries. There is no other project with similar coverage and methodology. I am not advertising or promoting my own role, but presenting the project and its volunteers, who do the work for free. For all these reasons, I consider the contribution should be on Wikipedia and I request to retrieve its deleted content. Tagirem (talk) 12:51, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Hypercoverings

Hi deb! I recently created the page hypercovering which you flagged as not having reliable enough sources and not being user friendly enough. I added two fairly reputable books on the subject as references, and provided some more explanation with relations to other topics in the introduction. Hopefully that is sufficient! I understand that it is maybe a bit hard to digest, but I believe that it reflects more the nature of the subject (fairly modern mathematics!) than the quality of writing. --Ax-ax (talk) 22:15, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Deb. You have new messages at ReaL Prata's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on French Books on India requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Calton | Talk 05:20, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

Question about an AfD notification

I was struck by this edit, where you posted notification of an AfD nomination to a user talk page. The user account in question was created on 24 May 2017, and has made four edits to the AfD-nominated article, along with 25 edits to other pages. The article, however, was created by a completely different account in September 2006‎. Global accounts / COI

Hi Deb, I was wondering if you could give me some advice on a case I have been curating. It seems a marketing and communication firm is editing articles on English Wikipedia about German firms (language is English). Under English Wiki rules, the username would be against policy and there are COI issues, but it seems German Wiki has a process to allow shared/corporate usernames and this one (CommHa) is somehow white listed over there following a disclosure process. How do we deal with this on English Wiki if they are requesting edits to articles using the same process they are used to on other Wikimedia projects? Are they somehow "grandfathered"? Probably inappropriate speedy deletions.

In this edit, you state "I've speedied this twice now." A log search shows that you have indeed deleted Jan (Space Ghost) twice under criteria A1. This is not a correct speedy deletion. Per WP:CSD "If any information in the title or on the page, including links, allows an editor, possibly with the aid of a web search, to find further information on the subject in an attempt to expand or edit it, A1 is not appropriate" (emphasis mine). The (Space Ghost) part of the title clearly specifies which Jan is being discussed. Further, I note that the log Shows you speedily deleted the article twice in two minutes. The footnote to A1 on WP:CSD also notes, "Consensus has developed that in most cases articles should not be tagged for deletion under this criterion moments after creation as the creator may be actively working on the content; though there is no set time requirement, a ten-minute delay before tagging under this criterion is suggested as good practice."

While new page patrolling is a hard and thankless task, the inappropriate application of A1 can discourage new editors from continuing to engage in article creation. Speedy deletion criteria are narrowly construed to avoid just such a situation. Best wishes, Jclemens (talk) 02:49, 24 June 2017 (UTC)

`I am here to ask why you deleted an article, not because I am displeased, or because it was my article, but because I am satisfied but puzzled. You deleted "So Good" as no content. When I saw it, it had no text, but had an infobox. I hate infobox-only articles, because in many cases they are a deliberate way to game the system as stupid placeholders to avoid deletion. Had the infobox been removed, or did you decide that the infobox isn't substantive content? Thank you, but how did you do it? Robert McClenon (talk) 23:18, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

A message for you from an editor who doesn't understand

Hi Deb, Thanks for your help with this page. I should have waited to begin working on it until I had more information. I have created quite a few album pages for Eleanor McEvoy albums without any problems. I had intended to return to it to add links to verify the information and to add track listings and critical reception. It would have been much better if I had done all of this at the same time. Would it be possible to put the page back up and let me put all of the information in? Or would it be better to start a completely new page. I had thought of just calling the page The Thomas Moore Project without adding Eleanor McEvoy album in parentheses-would that be a better way to go. I would really appreciate it if you would help me with this. Thanks so much, Inga

Speedy Deletion of Ki-hara Resistance Stretching

Hi Deb, I am a neutral source on this content. I have no connection to anyone or thing I am contributing. I am a former pro athlete and fitness expert, who is now a computer engineer working outside the health and fitness industry. I want to start contributing to Wikipedia about the fitness and nutrition industry, because it has a lot of misinformation and it is often due to the lack of credible and historical documentation. I wrote this article with the advertising clause in mind, I do not believe it has been violated. Please do not discriminated based on the subject of content. It was filled with simple and historical facts, referenced by accounts such as NBC today, other wikipedia page's and industry leading publications such as Shape magazine and Men's Fitness. This is a scientific proven and widely used method. I had third-party sourced articles referencing the founders, who they have been training and the professionals who are professionally certified in the method. Also, notable athletes who all had wikipedia pages themselves who use the method verified by third-party sources. This is important, credible and verifiable enough for this platform. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leorue (talkcontribs) 21:45, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

Rosamund Vallings

I can't look at deleted edits, but if the version of Rosamund Vallings that you deleted is the same as this sandbox version it really should not have been deleted. There is arguably a little bit of WP:PUFFERY, but nothing that a tag and a bit of cleanup wouldn't fix (even then it is pretty minor). Clearly she is a notable person that is the subject of multiple major awards including membership in the New Zealand Order of Merit. Not seeing why this one was deleted (unless of course the deleted version is substantially different to the one I am looking at). — InsertCleverPhraseHere (or here) 10:27, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

In my opinion the article is about as blatantly promotional as it could be. Of course the subject is notable but that does not entitle someone to create an article specifically designed to publicise her skills. Deb (talk) 13:07, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
Again, is the sandbox version I am looking at the same as the one you are looking at? What I am seeing is a few issues with the sourcing (i.e. ref to her own web site is inappropriate), and maybe 20% of the language is overly promotional and should be trimmed/replaced. But there is also a lot of really good text there. These are issues that can be dealt with by tagging and improving. per WP:G11: "If a subject is notable and the content could plausibly be replaced with text that complies with neutral point of view, this is preferable to deletion."
I'll have a chat with Melwel and get her to fix these issues and republish. — InsertCleverPhraseHere (or here) 18:17, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
That should not be difficult as she already has the sandbox version to work on. Deb (talk) 08:10, 17 August 2017 (UTC)

Idea for tool regarding DOY-trimming and review

Hello Deb,
This is a follow up on this question.
I have a proposal I would like you to consider. Bear with me.
Since last year I've concerned myself with lifting the quality of the DOY- and Year-pages to a higher level. I focus on pre-1700's entries which needed some tlc. To that end I created an application to help spot errors and generate notable entries that were omited. You can read about it here and on my user page. These two projects are now almost done. As a side effect I noticed that a lot of insufficiently notable entries persons exist in the DOY-pages from the 1400's onwards; many articles are stubs or have very little content.
(BTW before 1400 AD the number of bio's is quite small.)

For fun I generated a some tables some time ago stating per date a corresponding bio in the DOY-page (per century). Examples:
Births per date, period 1600 – 1799
Deaths per date, period 1600 – 1799
As you can see the size of the article (in number of characters) is also stated. Although I realize that character count is in no way a criterium for notability, it can be used to identify bio's that have no place in the DOY-pages.
For instance in the 1st table have a look at Bastiaan Govertsz van der Leeuw (DoB 11 January). The limited bio size (1496 letters only) seems to suggest that he should not be stated in January 11#Births. I have many other examples.
Proposal: I could add code to my application in order to generate a table that would list persons that very probably have no place in a DOY-page.
Criteria:

  1. Article is a stub OR
  2. YoB/YoD > 1400 AND article size < 2000 characters

Before I devote time to it I would like your thoughts on this. Would you be willing to use the proposed table as a tool for DOY-trimming regarding existing entries?
If so, do you agree on the article size limit of 2000 characters? I could increase it or even make it variable per century.

HI Deb,

Can you please help me understand why you deleted images I posted by artist Edgar Payne? I own these images and have the legal right to post images older than 70 years? All images were relative to the artist page and credited me as the owner. Thank you for your time.

Thank you for your time Deb. I appreciate it. Is it considering advertisement to credit the owner of the image? I see credits given to every image here, yet, when it has my name its an advertisement/? Your recent editing history at Franklin P. Peterson shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. —David Eppstein (talk) 23:45, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Lucky thing you're not one, then. With a block log the length of yours, you're lucky you're even still here. Deb (talk) 06:50, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
Ha ha ha ha ha! I guess you missed the box at the top of my user page:
This user has been blocked several times, and isn't embarrassed about it - (admire my block log here!).
When you're done yawning, you might want to review such threads as Unblocked,Unblocked #2,Review_of_EEng.27s_indefinite_block, and (my personal favorite) Hands-down the worst block I've seen in my time on Wikipedia, and I've seen some whoppers; more on request. I have a long history of being blocked by admins who ended on the wrong end of a trout, or worse. You have an amazing ability to opine on things you know nothing about. EEng 21:21, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
Deb, at this page, you made FIVE reverts in 24 hours: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. So far, you are clearly in violation of WP:3RR, and there's no reasonable assertion that an exception to 3RR applies. Your response has been to attack, ad hominem, one of the editors pointing out that your editing has not been appropriate. While you've previously declined to apologize when you are clearly in the wrong in your admin tool use, I strongly encourage you appropriately admit your violation of WP:3RR and apologize to the two editors with whom you've edit warred. Alternatively, you could simply resign your sysop bit, because while I don't think that's a good outcome, it's certainly a better one than someone dragging you before the torches'n'pitchforks brigade, an eventuality I hinted at back in June. Allow me to be perfectly clear: Your recent conduct is quite likely to be judged by either the community or ArbCom as entirely inconsistent with WP:ADMINCOND. Your move. Jclemens (talk) 07:32, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
I might have known you'd turn up. You are perfectly correct in that I have violated 3RR, for which I apologise to the community. Unlike the two editors you refer to, I've made no "ad hominem" attacks (and, in your own words, "Do be aware that "Accusing someone of making personal attacks without providing a justification for your accusation is also considered a form of personal attack"). My changes to the article were improvements, and I undid the edits with an explanation; the tag team did the same.

[9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14]

Can I take it you have warned them both?

Your suggestion that I should resign is presumably intended as a joke - I am not you, and I don't quit before I'm pushed. Go to ANI if you want to, and carry on your wikilawyering there. Deb (talk) 07:55, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

Sigh. Even when you do the right thing--and make no mistake, I think a self-block is a courageous and appropriate act that far exceeds what I considered necessary amends--you shoot yourself in the foot. I wish you wouldn't. Addressing EEng's block log rather than the substance of his complaint, as if that somehow made him less right in pointing out your 3RR, is ad hominem. So is "I am not you, and I don't quit before I'm pushed." for that matter--a statement which is both ad hominem and inaccurate. At any rate, regarding the other two edit warriors? They may indeed have tag teamed, but I'll leave that to someone else to complain about. I think the loss of an experienced admin who's invested a whole lot of time in Wikepedia and is now displaying burnout symptoms is a bigger loss than regular editors getting a talking-to. At any rate, I applaud your recent actions, but would encourage you to find it within you to be more gracious in your communications with folks who disagree with you. I sincerely hope you've been out having fun today; that would at least be something good to have come out of this. Cheers, Jclemens (talk) 05:02, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

Hi, Where is the debate about this deletion? This is a reputed organisation, and has articles in 6 other languages. When and where involved people were informed? Regards, Yann (talk) 13:02, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) @Yann: It means that it was deleted under the speedy deletion criteria regarding advertising and deleted as unambiguously promotional. These criteria are specifically designed precisely because "administrators have broad consensus to bypass deletion discussion, at their discretion, and immediately delete Wikipedia pages." And bearing in mind these are speedy criteria, from the deleting administrator's logged coment ("plenty of time has been allowed for cleanup"), it sounds like the article escaped longer than most- but unfortunately no-one, it seems, took advantage of the opportunity to try and save it. Cheers! — fortunavelut luna 13:26, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
@Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi: Sorry, but this article absolutely didn't meet any speedy deletion criteria. It is not spam, or overtly promotional. It has existed for years without much comments. It was not tagged prior deletion. Additionally contributors were not informed. Regards, Yann (talk) 15:10, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
It was tagged - as unreferenced, and as a copy/paste from the organisation's own website. The wording was incontrovertibly promotional (as you'd expect from something copied from their website), not to mention that it is written from a biased point of view. Deb (talk) 15:22, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
Just as one example, Yann, you yourself added this completely unacceptable statement: "Without any legal claim to these lands, thousands of people are forced to migrate to urban centers everyday where they are left with no choice but to become manual laborers without rights or financial and life security." I'm not reproducing any more of the POV content you added. After ten years as an editor, you should be able to see what's wrong with this. Deb (talk) 15:24, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

Hello,

Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.

The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.

To take the survey sign up here and we will send you a link to the form.

We really appreciate your input!

Issue regarding "List of journals related to Automobile Engineering."

Dear Deb,

The article created "List of journals related to Automobile Engineering" is not for a soapy purpose. It is on its way to give information to Master scholars and Doctoral scholars about the list of journals related to Automobile Engineering in order to gain subject knowledge and to publish their research papers.

More over, the article is on its way in construction. The article is classified into many sub parts such as publications by SAE, IEEE and other national and international journals.

But, you deleted the page without knowing the intention of the writer. First intimate to the writer and then submit the article for deletion.

More over, we are not fake creators, we have very good profile in wikipedia. Just first finish your profile page with a proper identity as we have. Don't take hasty decisions.

Great Grandpa - Plastic Cough

Hi, the creator of the Plastic Cough article here. I'd like to know why you took down the page. I cited sources, I did pretty much everything I needed to, etc. So why'd you take it down? The more exposure artists like Great Grandpa can get, the better! These people dedicate their livelihoods to making and releasing music, and they deserve as much respect on this website as random-punk-band-from-77-who-had-Jim-Morrison's-brother and terrible-modern-prog-act-who-makes-3-albums-per-year. I'm honestly just... confused. TakyonDrive (talk) 05:28, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for responding so quickly. You do realize there are other artists on this website who have album pages, but not an artist page? For example, there is no Iglooghost page, but there's a very detailed page for his EP, Chinese Nü Yr. Plus, I'm not related to the band at all, so asking me to read something about conflict of interest when I was only documenting something that I knew was fairly popular in the indie music scene is... kind of insulting. Thanks for deleting most of what I did last night. TakyonDrive (talk) 20:18, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

I didn't know about that one, and personally I do not think the rating of it as GA is justified for that very reason (as someone pointed out on the Talk page). In fact, I think it's rather a poor article. Having said that, it doesn't meet the criteria for speedy deletion that your article did, viz "This applies to any article about a musical recording or list of musical recordings where none of the contributing recording artists has an article and that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant (both conditions must be met)." Clearly the Chinese Nü Yr EP has some claim to notability, backed up by multiple independent references. Yours did not make any such claim. You say that "These people dedicate their livelihoods to making and releasing music", which suggests you know a lot about them. So once again I advise you to create an article about the band first. Deb (talk) 20:08, 30 September 2017 (UTC)

Abdul Latif Jameel

Why did you delete this? News articles were cited from reliable regional sources. I have no affiliation with the company. Your assertion that this article meets G11 is totally unfounded. Sekicho (talk) 14:55, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

  • Thank you for speedily restoring. But I don't see how you can even call the wording "promotional" ... is the list of business lines "promotional" because it quotes the company website? Or are you referring to some of the other statements (such as being one of the largest privately-held conglomerates), which were paraphrased from regional media sources? Sekicho (talk) 16:49, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

Whiskey Bards (recreated)

I am asking why my page regarding the Whiskey Bards band was deleted. You cite the reason as having no importance under WP:A7 But it should have been judged by the WP:MUSICBIO

From the Wikipedia guidelines:

Musicians or ensembles (this category includes bands, singers, rappers, orchestras, DJs, musical theatre groups, instrumentalists, etc.) may be notable if they meet at least one of the following criteria.

Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself.

My article met this criterion.

Cybotik (talk) 18:31, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

You say my article did not meet the criteria of a non-trivial mention.
In WP:MUSICBIO, Wikipedia defines a trivial mention thusly: Works consisting merely of trivial coverage, such as articles that simply report performance dates, release information or track listings, or the publications of contact and booking details in directories.
But an album review by a professional music reviewer is not a trivial mention. The band is the focus and subject of the review, not merely mentioned. I have two music reviews in my sources. An interview with a member of the band, about the band and its music, is not a trivial mention. It isn't a momentary reference to a CD the interviewee sometimes listens to. The focus of the interview is the band. And I have two such interviews, from well-established newspapers in Arizona, both of which chose to pay a professional reporter to write about this band.
Please explain to me, in accordance with the guidelines of Wikipedia, how these references are trivial.
Cybotik (talk) 09:30, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
One of the reviewers is Sarah Meador, a writer/reviewer for rambles.net, an online magazine of art and culture with a full staff, as the Wikipedia guidelines recommend. It has been around 18 years. Sarah Meador is no longer active with the magazine, but she is listed as a former member, and her reviews are still active.
The other reviewer is Gerard Heidgerken, a professional DJ who uses the handle "Bilgemunky." For six years, he hosted a pirate-themed radio show. It was a Dr. Demento styled show, with an emphasis on sea shanties and pirate music. As part of the show, he reviewed pirate movies, pirate books, nautical-themed music albums, and even clothing and rum brands. The radio show no longer airs, and Bilgemunky only performs at pirate-themed special events now. But the podcasts of his show are still available on iTunes and his reviews remain active on the website for his broadcast.
Cybotik (talk) 14:34, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
The newspaper articles were interviews and and brief informational pieces about the band and their music. The reviews were online. The Wikipedia guidelines specifically say that an article's content cannot be considered in determining notability. So, quoting an article, or not, is not relevant.
WP:ALBUM/SOURCE has this to say about reviews: Specifically, reviews should be written by professional music journalists or DJs, or found within any online or print publication having a (paid or volunteer) editorial and writing staff (which excludes personal blogs), and must be from a source that is independent of the artist, record company, etc. The reviews I cited meet these criteria. Two reviews, plus two newspaper interviews, should be enough.
Cybotik (talk) 20:50, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
Reviews on their own are seldom enough to demonstrate notability, and the article is about the band, not their albums.Deb (talk) 21:28, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
Where in the Wikipedia guidelines does it say that an album review is not enough to demonstrate notability? An album review is inherently about the band and the music they play. It means that a professional reviewer has taken notice of this band and devoted their time to reporting on their music.
This is the criterion: Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself. Note that it does not exclude reviews.
And I had more than just the reviews. I also had two newspaper articles. That is four separate, independent, non-trivial sources.
Cybotik (talk) 07:12, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
I recommend you go to a deletion review if you're still not happy. I'll willingly accept the result. Deb (talk) 11:12, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
Please tell me, specifically, according to Wikipedia guidelines, how my article does not qualify. A deletion review is not going to help me if you can't give me that information.
First, you claimed it was not important according to WP:A7
When I pointed out that musical bands were supposed to be judged according to WP:MUSICBIO, you said the references had to be non-trivial.
When I showed you Wikipedia's definition of non-trivial, you asked if I could demonstrate that the reviewers were professionals.
I gave you links to the websites, and pointed out Wikipedia's definitions of professional music reviewers. You said I should have included pieces of the newspaper reviews in the article.
I pointed out that the reviews were online and that the newspaper pieces were interviews about the band. I also pointed out that article content, according to Wikipedia, is not a criterion for deletion. You countered by saying that a review of a band's music is somehow not about the band itself and that music reviews are not enough to demonstrate notability.
I asked you to justify this according to Wikipedia guidelines. I also reminded you that I had two newspaper articles in addition to the reviews. You did not respond, instead telling me to do a deletion review.
You keep changing your reasons for deletion. Not once did you cite an applicable Wikipedia guideline. Please tell me, according to Wikipedia guidelines, the specific reason my article was marked for deletion.
Cybotik (talk) 00:16, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
I have never changed my reason for deletion. It was always A7. If you feel it did not meet the A7 criteria, please take it to a review as suggested. Deb (talk) 12:09, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
As a band, the criteria for the article are under WP:MUSICBIO. You completely ignored the applicable guidelines.

BLG Logistics

Hi Deb,

I am contacting you because in 2015 there was an article called BLG Logistics.. It was written by user John Forrest and was obviously of poor quality.

On behalf of BLG Logistics I improved the German article in September, it was paid editing. The German article is not an “advertisement” or a yellow page entry but provides information about history, contemporary situation and minor aspects such as headquarters building. The German entry is now based on reliable books, newspapers & magazines. Additional references deriving from company’s website are only given to prove economic data and names.

A translation is in progress. Should I contact you after upload to en.wikipedia.org?
This question and the intended upload are/would be paid edits.

Dear Deb, Thanks for your editing on my article 'Sing With Aqeel'. Actually the reason I put external links is that very page related to music always have external links as you can see the available templates of social media pages. Please allow me to add external links on the page this is not promotional. Thanks

Hi. This month The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There is over £3000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. Wikimedia UK is putting up £250 specifically for editors who produce the most quality new women bios for British women, with special consideration given to missing notable biographies from the Oxford Dictionary of Biography and Welsh Dictionary of Biography. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate independently this is also fine, but please add any articles created to the bottom of the main contest page even if not competing. Your participation in the contest and contributing articles on British women from your area or wherever would we much appreciated. Thanks.

Unjustified deletion of Typhoon HIL page citing COI and advertising

Hi Deb, I see that you deleted a Typhoon HIL page citing advertising and COI. I find the boundary of "advertizing" quite fuzzy. Can I also then take the liberty to delete dSPACE, MATLAB, National Instruments and similar pages, simply because they state facts about companies and fundamentally state that these companies are good companies? I really hope that you read what was written, as I only wrote the first paragraph (the article was not finished) and the paragraph was entirely based on an independent third-party source, given in the reference. So, a fact, based on an extensive market research, is "advertising", COI, both? I think that this matter should be escalated further - this seems completely subjective on your part and I have a feeling that maybe you have a conflict of interest here. The same happened in Hardware in the Loop Simulation where a person who obviously favors/works for OPAL-RT deleted every mention of Typhoon HIL. Could you please provide a plausable explanation instead of a canned response? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.216.197.20 (talk) 16:22, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

I don't see any record of anonymous edits to the Typhoon HIL page. However, if you happen to be the Aleksandar Kavgic who works as a Marketing Specialist for Typhoon HIL Inc, then I would recommend you re-read the conflict of interest warning that I put on your user page. Deb (talk) 16:29, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
And by the way, you won't be able to delete any articles as you don't have those editing privileges. Deb (talk) 16:30, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

I'm not Aleksandar, but I competed in a Python Hackathon that Typhoon HIL organized a couple of days ago (my team didn't win anything, BTW, but I'm experimenting with a Python web crawler and I tested it with the string "Typhoon HIL" - that's how I found this, as well as some weird edits on other pages that only had the purpose of deleting Typhoon HIL). This logic of yours is quite interesting. Are you actually saying that Wikipedia would value a contribution by a random, uninformed person more than a contribution by a person who has had contacts with the company? That is like saying that Barack Obama should have no say in writing his (auto)biography, because he is in conflict of interest. I agree that people with direct links to the company should not have the main say in writing articles, but it seems to me that this guy's fault was in that he was being honest: had he named himself "fluffyunicorn92" you may have let his article pass? I'm disgusted by Wikipedia if this is true, and that is why I will never open an account. FYI, this was the best hackathon I have ever been to, the guys are Python evangelists and I regret the fact that I signed a scholarship agreement with another company here in Novi Sad (they sponsored my MA studies), so I cannot apply to work for them over the next four years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.216.197.20 (talk) 16:53, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

I'm saying precisely that. The writing of autobiographies on Wikipedia is discouraged because impartiality is our watchword. See Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, the only one of our policies that cannot be changed by consensus. If you are not the creator of the article, I don't understand why you made the statement "I only wrote the first paragraph". There's no record of anyone other than Aleksandar having ever edited the article. I would say that "this guy's fault" was not so much in being "honest" as in failing to inform himself about the purpose of Wikipedia and how it works before he tried to create an article about the company he works for. Deb (talk) 17:00, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
OK, you got me there: I didn't write it, but I was pretending to be the author. Alexander is probably doing something meaningful on Saturday afternoon: not experimenting with an NLTK-based web crawler in Python. I was trying to help the guys who provided me with a great experience last weekend, although my team missed the prizes by just a couple of score percents. I was puzzled by what my Python crawler was showing me: a page appeared yesterday, then got marked, and then got deleted. I now understand what happened, but I think that you should then enforce the personality identification rule for all contributors. As it is, it still seems completely arbitrary, i.e. objective in a fake way. If Barack Obama creates a user account "George W. Bush", he would be able to make "valuable" contributions to Barack Obama page that are not in COI. FYI, my professors strictly prohibit citing Wikipedia in MA papers and PhD thesis. If you are some high-ranking editor, here's the idea: enforce real-life identification of all contributors, and your job would be much easier. Srđan (my name) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.216.197.20 (talk) 17:17, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
I don't have the power to do that. The conflict of interest rule was decided by consensus. Believe it or not, there was a time, early in the project (say, 12 years ago) when it was not recognised that we were going to have such a lot of problems with spam. Such a rule as you suggest would be impossible to enforce. It was the nature of Aleksandar's edits that gave away his conflict of interest; if people edit like that and use their real name, the COI is blatant - but it still exists even if they use a pseudonym and can be guessed at even if it can't be proven. People who make lots of promotional edits get banned from editing sooner or later; they don't get blocked merely for having a COI. Deb (talk) 17:33, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
Maybe enforcing personal identification is impossible, but the system, as it is now, leaves the door wide open for creating a virtually unlimited number of fake, bogus, accounts which can be used for all sorts of purposes. When this is paired with non-registered users, this can scale to such a proportion that editors like you can become completely overwhelmed. Promotion is actually a very benign thing here, if you put it into the perspective of possible revisions of historic(al) events, biased and subversive interpretations of facts/theories, etc. As somebody who wants to build his career in web applications, I think that you should at lest try to make it more difficult for individuals to have multiple accounts, if you cannot enforce having the user's real name. The easiest way is to have a phone(SMS) verification of all user accounts: although there are many sites where you can create "disposable" email addresses, it is not so easy and cheap to have multiple phone numbers. As for COI, I completely see a point for it in academia where (in my experience) everyone has the ego the size of a bus, but I think that it completely misses the mark in case of companies, institutions, etc. The most insightful pieces of information actually come from insiders or from people with links to insiders, if you just let them talk openly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.216.197.20 (talk) 18:46, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

I think that the fact that you are engaged in an edit war with me on various other pages may be worthy of mention here. No idea at all - it dates back to 2005 (when refs were not obligatory). I'm guessing that I moved it from another article, maybe the Glendale article, so I would have to go back through the history and check. I see someone's taken out the bit about board games, which might have contributed from a notability angle (if it's true). Deb (talk) 11:44, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

Your edit on Meg Hutchins

Hi, in this edit you removed on Meg Hutchins the phrase "she offered her experience, inside knowledge and passion for women's football" stating NPOV. My first question is NPOV relevant when it is not an original claim, but rather stated in the source referenced? Secondly, is "experience" and "inside knowledge" point-of-view to any direction? I would think they're fact. She is an experienced player (14 year career) and has inside knowledge (co-captain of the club). (not disputing passion being NPOV, for that referring to first question) Thank you for the quick look through at the article (editing 3 minutes after creation - kudos!) --SuperJew (talk) 22:36, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

PAF (Preventing Academic Failure)

Hi Deb I noticed you deleted the article based on lack of notability and you redirected to Orton-Gillingham (O-G) page, which describes the O-G methodology, while the newly created article is about a specific program based on O-G instruction which is what ultimately helps people with dyslexia. I looked at the notability guidelines, and I would suggest that this program meets the notability criteria if you consider that it has abundant public coverage and that it has been successfully used for close to 40 years, touching the lives of thousands and thousands of children. About 10-15% of the US population has dyslexia and when a child with that condition learns how to read, which requires a specialized program, it changes their life forever. I honestly think this can be very useful resource for parents of children with dyslexia that need to identify specific alternatives to help their kids overcome their challenges. I would appreciate if you could reconsider and reinstate the article or suggest what would help make you more comfortable with its meeting the notability test. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bacchusrosso (talkcontribs) 13:58, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

Deb thanks for your feedback. I edited the article. In terms of its notability, I added references to studies by University of South Alabama and Columbia University looking at its effectiveness, although I didn't include wording to describe it as successful to avoid language that could be interpreted as promotional. I also explained more the program's characteristics. At the same time I removed, as per your comments, references coming from sources of schools that use it or education experts who apply it for tutoring. How should I proceed for you to review it? Shall I post it? Thanks Bacchusrosso (talk) 15:22, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Marie Huber requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia.

However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Re Capital Square

Hi. You deleted a page I created at Capital Square on December 19. The page was created as part of the Women in Red project about important African women doing interesting things whose work deserved to be profiled. I am appealing that you kindly undelete it so I can improve the page. At the time of the page creation, I was not aware of the draftpage and other ways to improve the profile before publishing. I have now. One of the reasons you gave for the deletion is G6: Paid editing. I have been investigated and cleared for this. I intend to rewrite the page to fit the Wikipedia standard, but starting the work on the page from the scratch will be more strenous than improving what I already started. So, please help. I'll appreciate it. Igwatala (talk) 13:49, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

Hey Deb. I would like to fix the article for POV. I have gone through the article in my last edit and removed anything that could sound like promotional. Can you please look through it again? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frank Weigelt (talkcontribs) 11:24, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

I used Photoshops's article as a model for writing this. That article had a lot of detailed information about features. I just tried to highlight the features in this. Without this section, the article would not do a good job of explaining how it works. Reason for Deleted Page

Deb,

I am writing to ask why the page startes for CIM Group was deleted? This company owns and manages several large real estate properties in New York City many of which already have existing Wikipedia pages. The properties owned by CIM Group that have a Wikipedia page already include 432 Park Avenue, Trump Soho, and 11 Madison Park among a number of others. 432 Park Avenue alone is the tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere. Thank you for your consideration. DoegePotter (talk) 16:02, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

NYC Architecture

Thank you for your message. I am writing to follow up re:COI. I have an interest in New York City architecture and therefore anything I write could potentially be impacted by my subjectivity. However, in order to counter that I always include high-quality references including industry standard books and widely-read industry publications to backup what I write. With regard to the page on 15 William, every statement is supported by a citation from at least one high quality source. Anyone who writes or edits anything on Wikipedia will have a subjective bias to some extent. The best way to counter that bias however is to include solid references for everything. In addition, some of the changes recently made to the article did not reflect what was explicitly stated in the referenced source. I suppose one thing I can do going forward is to include as many direct quotations from the sources I use as possible so that there is no ambiguity. DoegePotter (talk) 18:05, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

Open Kitchen Restaurant

The referenced New York Times article on 15 William refers to the restaurant on the ground floor as "an upscale deli." Other sources give similar characterizations. This is a very minor detail but I did want to point it out. I read the page regarding COI and would like to follow-up to see if there are additional issues. The page still has the possible COI sticker. Are there additional issues with the page? DoegePotter (talk) 14:07, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

"Upscale" is a POV term; "deli" isn't. Deb (talk) 14:33, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
The source for the term "upscale deli" was an article in the New York Times cited in the page by Suzanne Slesin, a long-time writer on design, architecture, and fashion. However, I agree that it is not good practice to rely solely on one author's opinion. So I gathered as many descriptions as I could and found that the restaurant is consistently characterized as a combination gourmet shop, café, and deli with multiple food stations. Changing the description to "food market" was meant to provide the most accurate description possible - namely, that this particular restaurant is a large market with a variety of food stations. That, by definition, is what a food market is.DoegePotter (talk) 05:51, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
