OK, im interested in working on a Task Force devoted to Chocolate. I like the subject, am reasonably knowledgeable, am pretty much done fixing up the Wikipedia:San Francisco Bay Area Task Force. by my count, there are up to 867 chocolate related articles (less due to multiple categorization). that makes it easy to manage and well defined. Breakfast

Sure, thanks. But there is a major problem. I really don´t know where to find some usefull refs for, let us say Tunisian breakfast... Most people surely know what they eat for breakfast... now don´t they:)? But whoever is publishing books om ..breakfast? It is kind of common knowledge ideed. It is something people do every day. That is why I think that all the stuff that has been deleted from the article is probably true, though unsourced nor referenced. Tricky.

Adding the WP:Breakfast banner

That would be great. I have done this before when I started WP:BRANDS. It was time-consuming for that project because there are a lot of brand-related articles on Wikipedia. A question

Seeing that you have been talking about the Peer review part of TAFI, I noticed that I still had no idea what it was exactly for, and how it could be any different from what we already have.

The page simply provides a space for collaboration. One potential achievement is providing a space for article improvements after entries have concluded in the schedule.   • I am of the opinion that the current tabbed header template contains too many links, and must minimise the links to not confuse any new collaborator. As it currently stands, the Article Collaboration section remains unused, and I would like it to be removed for now. So would you be open to having it removed just from the header for the time being. Advice on deletion of article

Hi Northamerica1000

I would like your input on deletion of the article on NZ band, Katango (deleted dec 2012). I wrote the initial article and since then have found more information that covers the notability:music requirements (which I can provide citations for..) Namely: - nominated for 2x NZ Music Awards 1985 (most promising male vocalist and most promising group) - has won a major NZ music competition - has featured in multiple national TV broadcast segments (at least 3, but I can only cite 3) - performed on a notable TV program (NZ Telethon)

If these don't make a band notable (at least in a NZ sense) then so be it. I also have more references for the records produced (from the NZ National Library) ThanksGmoney484 (talk) 04:44, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

  • Hello Gmoney484: I've searched around for sources, but not having much luck. The link you provided in the article to the National Library of New Zealand is a good start. The links therein have links to articles published about this band by Auckland star and New Zealand Herald, but I can't access the articles nor find them at this time on internet searches. I'll continue to search in my free time. Per your information above about awards received by the group, it's possible that they could meet point #9 of WP:NBAND, and per the performances you mentioned, the band may pass point #10 of WP:NBAND, so there is potential here. Hello DGG: After checking out Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion#Proposed new criterion: abandoned article drafts, I'll be certainly be taking your advice into consideration. One merit of the process is that when using Twinkle, article refunds are offered to editors whose articles are nominated for deletion under G13 (for an example, see User talk:Friends of Hope#Your article submission Hope in a bottle). What I am doing is going first for things that should be deleted on the other speedy criteria, mainly G11, and mainly the very worst of them, that we would not want to offer REFUND automatically. The absolute worst I have been deleting single-handed, although I usually dislike doing this--the ones just one step up or where I might not understand the topic I nominate for CSD. I need to see what happens if two criteria are checked. My own actual preference would be to have nothing to do with the current afc process, & replace it with something that would be easier to audit. As a fix, subject categories would help-- but I think it is so irrationally designed--including the original idea to do it in WP space that we'd do better designing from scratch without preconceptions. Not reconfigure, design a project to accomplish, this, preferably under a different name to escape the odium of the old one. I am working on a proposal. The basic organizing principle will be that all new articles will come in a single pathway where they can be seen and examined; the structure is based upon the steps prescribed by the one good component, the Article Wizard. Interesting, a new project. Hey, I have some experience in designing WikiProjects, recruiting for members by sending out select invitations to editors that are likely to be interested per their editing history, etc., so keep me in mind when your proposal goes live. Yes, the page curation was designed quite well. I had my doubts about it at first, but it was a good job in the end, because, unlike AfC, those working on it were sensitive to the requests of other editors; they encouraged feedback, and they used it. In order to prevent bad articles getting into WP from AfC ,the easiest way would be to feed them all into NPP. I've suggested this in the past--it would have to be able to capture the moves, and it probably should be done to capture all moves from WP, WPT, user, or usertalk space into mainspace. Unfortunately, that's the easiest part of the problem. The real difficulty is to rescue the fixable articles in AfC from the people who unreasonably reject them or give bad advice about them and discourage the contributors. We know how to deal with unacceptable articles--we've gotten very good in the last 5 years in keeping them out of wp ; but we do not know how to deal with new good faith users. Thanks for advising that you're aware of the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's articles for improvement. I still find it troubling and inappropriate that you're unilaterally removing the template from articles despite consensus that was attained for it to be used. Actually, one RFC has already occurred in which use of Template:TAFI on articles was mentioned there by User:David Levy in the TAFI moving forward? subsection, but nobody objected (see Talk:Main Page/Archive 173#Today's article for improvement on the Main Page). Portal:Coffee (II)

Please stop working on it for a few days, it appears to be on the way to keep and if that is the case I want it to run as smooth as possible and make sure it fits with in the F&D family. I will redo so it uses the proper format and templates. Your going to a series of moves and other stuff that is going to mess it up while I am working on it, so do not think I am trying to damage it or anything.

It is strange to be asked to cease working on a portal by you, because you initially blanked all of its pages and nominated them all for speedy deletion. This request is also strange because you have !voted at its deletion discussion to have it deleted. It's a standalone portal; there's no need for it to "fit into" other content on Wikipedia other than those that are coffee-related.
Regarding the use of "proper" format and templates; portals can vary in terms of style and layout to some degree. There's no need for them all to appear identical.
Please do not revert all of my improvements to the portal, especially since it's currently listed for deletion, and again, because you have !voted to have it removed from the encyclopedia. I'm also concerned about your statement of redoing it, because of concerns that this will entail the removal of positive expansions that I have performed to better the portal's coverage of coffee-related topics.

As I stated I realize that the direction of the discussion is leaning towards keep, so I acknowledging that and trying to bring it up to standards and structure of the other portals across Wikipedia. As to your improvements, I am simplifying them to use the standard templates developed for portals, as I stated you are doing more work than required because there are tools that are designed to simplify the process.
Assume good faith, this isn't my first time at the rodeo as I have experience doing this. There are standard templates that are here on Wikipedia designed to simplify the creation of portals, which you may not be aware of. I am not touching content, only the underlying structure that the content is in so that it uses the various templates people have created for this very purpose. Some moves I have made are designed with these templates in mind. I hear you; the thing is, though, is that I like the current layout of Portal:Coffee. I think the portal has significant potential with its current layout, which is nice and streamlined, providing instant content. Some of the other food-related portals (e.g. P:Drink, P:Beer) have a great deal of excessive spacing and smallish images, which may detract from viewership. While the images could be incorporated into the templates in the Coffee portal, I sort of like them centered and somewhat larger than at other portals. Don't really mean to eavesdrop, but i wanted to let you know that i improved the categorization at the Commons for Coffee, which i think is helpful when trying to get a portal improved. and, uh, great work, i really only did the absolute bare minimum to allow it to exist, you folks just took off on this one, which is great. Energetically modified cement

Thank you for taking time working on the article. Just to let you know the standardized nomenclature for the page for the sake of consistency, precision and academic credibility:
1. If referring to one energetically modified cement, please feel free to use "EMC"
2. If referring to more than one, then use the pluralized full name "energetically modified cements" so that it is clear we are referring to the plural.
The is because some aspects discussed are "general", other times specific, and it is important to maintain that precision for the articles credibility viz. the "big hitters" in the academic world who "know their potatoes". I hope this assists.
I do not right now want to be drawn into a discussion of the user that posted it for deletion, other than to state I am very concerned he/she maybe a competing academic/a fully-paid up member of the Portland cement industry, or even worse. That user only joined on 26 April well after the page was published, and has developed a near fixation of placing damaging banners on the page. What is more he/she keeps acting without any discussion first, notwithstanding I am a novice user to wiki and the page is WIP. I am a retired senior academic (life sciences) who has a keen amateurs eye (in the Victorian sense) for something which I think is significant and well worth a credible "shout" on here. And I went "out on a limb" to convince a number of academics to assist me - and damaging banners cause enormous embarrassment to my endeavors, when i have nothing but the best intentions.
Put simply, the World should have the right to learn about EMC, it is that significant in my view. And this is where Wiki is at its strongest. Back to what encyclopedias should be about - rather than tittle tattle and personality promotion.
This is an article in the "good old fashioned" sense. But it is also significant because it is catching the tide of where the "smart brains" are moving in advanced material sciences: Supplemental Cementitious Materials. It's the future for concrete - i'm convinced of it. Portland cement (an old technology) has had its day in terms of utter domination. We are living in exciting times - if you believe that science can make a contribution towards reducing CO2 and energy consumption. This article is reflecting that "cusp". And the more people assess it for themselves, the better.

I had removed the link to Cuisine of Japan, as it doesnt mention cheese much. I won't revert back to my change, as since we have a difference about these links, perhaps someone else could chime in. If you do feel strongly about keeping those in, i wont change back, but for the record, i think its a bit of a stretch to link to cuisine articles with little or no cheese content. of course, then all the european cuisine articles can stay. again, i wont edit war with you, as we are pretty much in agreement that the food articles need so much work, why quabble? thanks for your part in this effort. Hello Mercurywoodrose: Yes, I noticed your improvements to the article, which are appreciated. The thing about the cuisine article links is that cheese is often a significant part of cuisine in general, and the links provide useful links to high-relevance related topics. For example, cheese is often served as an appetizer, served along with wine, used in main dishes and side dishes, and even used in some desserts (e.g. cannoli). I didn't notice that you removed the Japanese cuisine link, and recently added it because I thought I missed it. At any rate, I welcome collaboration to work on the page!

Hi there: Just to let you know that I have significantly added-to the EMC page. Ive added external links, copious notes, more references, and a further reading section. The notes are important to add important details which substantiate the article in key aspects, but nevertheless is text which, strictly speaking, is perhaps "a little too much information" for inclusion into the main text of the article per se. In particular, Ive significantly modified the sections "History and recognition", "EMC activation and Portland cement replacement-capabilities" and "Energy and carbon dioxide savings". Into the latter section I have added a table in order to contextualize the potential savings, especially for the "first time reader" who may not be aware of the scale of Global Portland cement production and how replacing it can have certain effects in these areas. I consider this so important, that I've taken time to "read" the results, in order to explain what they represent - and also added an explanatory note (note 5).

It's still WIP. I am thinking of adding a section on sustainability - but this needs care. Particularly pertinent in this regard, are the water-saving features by using EMCs, as compared to the water requirements for making concretes with only Portland cement as the cementitious material. I'll be giving this some more thought over the next few days and will let you know.

  • The template can be used in articles other than drinking game ones (e.g. game-related, alcohol related, etc.) Also per WP:NOTDUP, "It is neither improper nor uncommon to simultaneously have a category, a list, and a navigation template which all cover the same topic. Possible collaboration on a hunger portal?

North, thanks so much for the barnstar for the school breakfast club article. And thanks for further improving it by adding portals. You got me thinking, would you be up for helping me create a portal for Hunger relief? There's tens of millions of people engaged in fighting hunger, though not many of seem to contribute our coverage here. I guess that sort of person is often repelled by the senseless destruction of information and personal attacks that are too common on Wikipedia. People like yourself, Dream and the Colonel, who combine good nature with scholarly ability and heroic resilience, are all too rare. Anyway, I could create a user sub page with most of the prose and give it basic structure (classes of food aid agency, NGOs, multilaterals, international summits, global campaigns, etc etc.) and then perhaps you could help to format it and make any other improvements? It wouldn't need to have too many harrowing images, actually the best social media experts seem to think that's counter productive. We could have relatively pleasant pics as in Hunger in the United States. I noticed editor Amadscientist has joined your breakfast project. He's a talented photographer and if we ask could probably get us some excellent images.

Anyway its just a thought, no worries if this isnt a topic you'd want to work on. I hadnt really noticed portals before, but am quite excited about their potential. Go for it. I have significant experience building and expanding portals, and can certainly help out. One of the key aspects of portals is that they can have several selected images, selected articles, selected biographies, Did you know's, etc., in which new selections can be viewed using the purge option (typically with a link included directly below the header in portals). For an example, see Portal:Global warming, one that I significantly expanded a while back. Creating a subpage of your user page with the following information would be most helpful, and again multiple entries would be great.
  • Selected articles
  • Selected images; panorama images
  • Selected biographies
  • General topic list (mandatory) (somewhat optional, but highly preferred)
  • Web resources (high-relevance external links, preferably academic or non-profit) (optional, but preferred)
  • Did you know entries (optional, but preferred, these do not have to be from Wikipedia's DYK)
It's typically preferred that articles are at Good article or Featured article designation, and that images are Featured-class, but for many topics this is just not a reality. (E.g. at Portal:Ecology; many ecological-related articles don't receive a great deal of contributions). Northamerica1000(talk) 12:57, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Editing templates used in multiple projects.

I understand you want to make improvements, but you should not make changes to templates that are used in multiple projects without discussing the changes. You should also notify any project that uses the template before your changes are implemented. Setup a sandbox and make the changes there, make the proposal and then discuss. See WP:BRD.

Uh, there's a major difference between removing a small cosmetic convention, and actually altering the meaning and content of what someone has said. You know that, so how about you dial it back a little, ok? I don't think we're interested in the same subject areas, or in attacking them the same way (at the moment I'm basically believing in a bottom-up approach; regularizing and tidying up our article assessments, then pushing articles up in quality from the bottom). Copyediting is not the same as completely changing what you have said by removing large chunks. I could also show the diffs from your multiple 'copyediting' bits at WT:FOOD, but I think you're getting the point: copyediting comments for spelling errors, grammar, or increased clarity is very much allowed. Wholesale removal (or addition) of text, changing the meaning of what you wrote, is not. Nothing gets on my nerves more than someone being disingenuous, especially when it looks like barring that disingenuousness I would probably respect the person in question. Article statistics are temporarily down at this time, but not permanently. Don't worry so much about temporary outages in them. See also: User:Theopolisme's response at Template talk:Project assessments. Article statistics aren't going to leave Wikipedia. Updating the template to a standard point size, or at least a slightly larger one, is congruent with enabling contributions to the encyclopedia; tiny point sizes that aren't easily read are typically skimmed over or ignored. EMC: Swedish Gold "Sockadockan"

I am Swedish Gold.

The EMC Deletion Discussion was closed last night in favor of retention. Hurrah for common sense!

At the instigation of Lukeno1994, my "price" is now to be investigated as a "sockpuppet" I have made a comment on the Sockadockan discussion you should read.

I was not informed and only found out by accident as I have been asked to analyse matters before a formal complaint is sent to Wikipedia Trustees. Ive seen some pretty bizarre actions by Luke. One was just after I started probing the probity of "Epic Crusader", last night where he wrote a message to the administrators begging for the deletion discussion to close (but he did not post that at the foot of the thread). Second, he summarily banned a Swedish user from Umeå last Saturday morning because the user let Lukeno1994 know that was upset to find out that the original author "Jono2013" had (apparently) collapsed last week due to stress brought on by the successive deletion debates etc.

Luke seems to have special powers to block users without any response, but he claims to be 18.

You were right to defend EMC. Please email me if you wish.

OBS! If you wish to take a look I have found many "tertiary" sources for EMC. I have posted a few on my user page. All of them are available on the web, but the titles are not always self saying "EMC". One need to know what one is looking for. Jono2013 maybe didn't yet have that experience but maybe felt embarrassed to trouble people. Brits can be like that :-)

Whereas we Swedes don't see the point of half doing something. We can be very direct because we are very trusting. We trust unless otherwise. Not other way around. I will look after the page for the meantime and hope Jono2013 is okay. You can be sure he did a very great job.

Yes, huge, huge hits difference after expansion. I'm still not sure why that happens. Is it because sites link to it when complete? Anyway, I can't thank you enough for all your work on these lists. And I'm so sorry to have been so slack in that area for so long. I've had other off and on-wiki stuff that's drawn my attention. I hope to get back into it soon. It's all good, and there's no deadline. Part of the increase in page views is likely due to people using the pages more, as in clicking through to linked articles and then going back to the list to check out others. Thanks for the barnstar! These historic sites (even when destroyed) are really my biggest interest here: I find it easy to find sources about them, I can write rather comprehensive articles without spending too much time or energy (although exceptions do exist), and it all fits in well with my passion for local history.
