[edit]

Hi, with the archive you want to delete, I think U1 will suffice, and probably get the same thing done quicker. Have a great New Year. best, Matty.007 08:33, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for your advice. However, U1 says explicitly "Personal user pages and subpages (but not user talk pages)". Your comment was fruitful for me anyway. Wish you also all the best for 2014. --CeeGee 08:47, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Given that you copied the content elsewhere, I wouldn't really call a misplaced, empty archive a talk page "user talk archives created by page move, may not be deleted in this way"... I suppose the fact that it wasn't a proper archive... Ah well. Best, Matty.007 08:52, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Kdz. Ayasofia

[edit]

Hallo CeeGee, Alessandro speaking. I need your help, of course if you agree on the matter, in the Hagia Sophia article. There is a fellow Wikipedian who wants to put below the Turkish name in the infobox. I am trying to explain since two days that this is not good because Hagia Sophia is a Turkish museum in Istanbul, so the local name should follow the common name, but in vain. Could you please explain him this point of view? Thanks, Alex2006 (talk) 10:09, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Alessandro! Thanks so much for your invitation into the discussion. However, I really don't feel myself competent in such a naming matter. I cannot judge what is correct and what is not. I am not an expert, and so not able to raise any argument. Sorry, please do not take it personally. Cheers. --CeeGee 10:36, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK CeeGee, no problem! I asked also Constantine, maybe he will join. It is always better to hear the opinion of other users. Bye bye from Istanbul, Alex2006 (talk) 10:44, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Typo in your hook?

[edit]

Hi, there appears to be a typo in Template:Did you know nominations/Kızıldere Geothermal Power Plant. It says "the Kızıldere Geothermal Power Plant is the biggest of its art in Turkey". Unless I'm missing something, that doesn't make sense. It looks like it should say "the biggest of its kind", but "art" is certainly a weird typo for "kind". Category for Turkish footballers

[edit]

Hi there CeeGee. Why did you remove Category:Turkish footballers from some articles that should have it? --Bobcats 23 (talk) 23:25, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I did it from articles only, where cats like "Footballers from ..." (birth places in Turkey) exist, which in turn are a subcat of Turkish footballers. --CeeGee 05:59, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Still, this category should be included in those articles. I'll readd, just to let you know. --Bobcats 23 (talk) 12:04, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You're wrong Bobcats 23!. You do a nonsense work now. An article doesn't need to be categorized once again in a higher category as this is the case with Category:Footballers from Ankara and Category:Turkish footballers. I'm going to report you if you do not revert your revert in one or two days. --CeeGee 14:40, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Calm down. What you're doing now is considered a personal attack, which is something you should avoid (see WP:PERSONAL). As for the topic, just because someone was born in Turkey doesn't mean they are Turkish citizens. See Aras Özbiliz for example, who is a footballer from Istanbul. And someone who was born outside of Turkey might be a Turkish national, like Nuri Şahin. By the way Category:Turkey international footballers‎ is another subcat of the mentioned category, but the articles of Turkish international players have both categories. Also, compare footballers from other countries, like Category:Russian footballers and Category:Footballers from Moscow. --Bobcats 23 (talk) 16:24, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm calm, no problem. And, what I do is certainly not personal attack. It's not my intension either. You just mix up the things Bobcats 23. What you're telling is not the subject. I told you and repeat once again: Only persons, who are Turkish and born, in this case, in Ankara are categorized in "cat:Footballers from Ankara" and those don't need to be categorized once again in "cat:Turkish footballers". That's it. Pls read carefully and try to understand. --CeeGee 17:00, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
They need to be categorized. See another example: Category:Footballers from Cornwall. Articles in this category also have Category:English footballers. --Bobcats 23 (talk) 17:36, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I see that I cannot convince you. Because your POV is based on examples, which may be also incorrect. I quit this discussion since I've other important things to do. --CeeGee 17:45, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Alec and Andrew Kocoglu

[edit]

I've known the Kocoglu family for awhile. Their father, Aret (short for Harutyun) is a regular in the Armenian community of Los Angeles. Garabed Kocoglu is Aret's brother (Alex's and Andrew's uncle) with Nadya being his wife. They themselves have two kids, Alex and Allen. Aret's and Garabed's father was Ohannes who passed away in 1997. The family are regulars at the Organization of Istanbul Armenians. Sorry for the brief synopsis of the Kocoglu family.

At any rate, I know for sure that Alec and Andrew are Armenian by blood but are playing hockey in Turkey, the country where their parents are born. I know of no Turk named Alec and Andrew which are names of Christian saints. Per WP:DUCK, I say it's safe to say they are Armenian. A mere mention of it in their biography would be suffice. Étienne Dolet (talk) 18:10, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I understand you know the family, and I have nothing against they are of Armenian origin. However, we cannot start to add info into WP because we know those persons personally or because their given names are different. As you might know that on the other hand there are Turkish people with Turkish names, especially in the Mardin-area, who are Christians. The given name or the surname (as it is in this case) doesn't make it possible to determine what ethnicity or religion the person belongs. Maybe, you can find a reliable source about their ethnicity. BTW, your citing about the "WP:The duck test" is not a guideline as stated in the top of its page. Best. --CeeGee 18:54, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Andy is a member of an Armenian organization in Los Angeles. Just look at the languages he speaks on his Facebook: Turkish, English, and Armenian. Just because we can't find a source on their Armenian ethnic background doesn't mean they're not Armenian. I hope we can just have AGF and leave it on the article. It's just sad to see such misinformation being presented on Wikipedia. Étienne Dolet (talk) 19:20, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The language someone speaks doesn't make him of that nationality or ethnicity. I fully believe in you they're of Armenian origin. The problem is that I didn't make the WP rules. BTW, ıt's not a shame they play in the Turkey national team. We're proud of them all. No doubt about that. Important is "Ne Mutlu Türküm Diyene!". --CeeGee 19:34, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What source do you have attesting to their Turkish ethnicity? Just because they play in Turkey doesn't make them Turkish. I'll remove it if you cannot find a source attesting to his Turkish ehtnicity. Étienne Dolet (talk) 19:37, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh dear! You start to confuse everything in the heat. In order to be able to play in the Turkey national team, one has to have Turkish citizenship. But, it's enough now. I don't like to discuss on elementaries. Best. --CeeGee 19:43, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

RE.Arap Mosque

[edit]

Hallo CeeGee,
you are right, the inscription is there, but is it worth showing it, when we know that what is written is false? Let me think a little bit about it...Cheers Alex2006 (talk) 07:59, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I thought what would someone think when he/she reads the WP article first and then goes there to get surprised after seeing the inscript. The same happened to me. Cheers. --CeeGee 09:11, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
After expanding the article a couple of years ago, I visited the Mosque again in January with a couple of friends, and found this info written on the site's history table in the yard. Then I came home and added a note, which recites "After the restoration of the mosque, this tradition is also reported on the explanatory table set on the courtyard wall of the mosque". :-) Now I see that the directorate of religious affairs actually wrote this info everywhere.. :-) I will check this evening on my books again and then contact the best expert of byzantine history which I know, then I will write you again...I don't want that after Twitter and Youtube also Wikipedia will be banned. İdmanyurduspor ?

Hi Cee Gee I read your article about Adana İdmanyurduspor. However in the relevant pages of the club the name has been given as İdmanyurdu and not as İdmanyurduspor. Do you consider moving the title ? Cheers. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 18:40, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nedim Ardoğa! The Turkish Football Federation name it Adana İdmanyurduspor. Even some news agencies like iha, fanatik, itv etc. name it as so. I have no information about the club's own naming. I'd change the name only when the club's own naming differs. Otherwise, a redirect to the existing page would suffice. Cheers. --CeeGee 19:29, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK If you think so. However, I'd like to point out that in Turkish many team names end either by -spor or -idmanyurdu; but never in -idmanyurduspor. In any search engine you can find hundreds of articles titled Adana İdmanyudu. I'll give two examples , one by Adana governate, the other by Turkish football federation. [2] and [3] Cheers. Proposed deletion of Solo Türk

[edit]

The article Solo Türk has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Single aircraft used for military displays are rarely notable and not that uncommon. Most air forces have at least one solo display team that appear at air shows and displays and like the other solo aircraft I cant see this one being notable

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Solo Türk deletion discusion

[edit]

Hello I read your comment at the Solo Türk talkpage. I am totali agree with you. I don't see the need to delet this, only because the solo Türk is a single aircraft Display Team. apart from the Solo Türk, ther is at the moment a discusion on, about to delet the Super Puma Display Team and F/A-18 Hornet Solo Display. They say it is not important enough (well ther is then a lot other stuff on wikipedia who is not important). And they understand a under an aeronautic display Team therm as something with 2 or more aircraft. Well i suggest not to delet the Solo Türk, Hornet Display and so one, i suggest to create a new sub category (like the subcategorys for Prop, Jet and Helicopters exist) "single aircraft display team". I belive ther would be interests for this category. Also theris the possebilety that this category would grow, if we think just about solo teams, like the Rafale Solo Display, Beligian, Netherland, Greek solodisplay Teams and so one. Would be nice if you woould vote for keeping them Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Super Puma Display Team and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/F/A-18 Hornet Solo Display- Thank you FFA P-16 (talk) 11:53, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I did copyediting and added Filmography section copied from the Turkish WP. Please note that it is my way of writing. I edited the bare urls by expanding with full parameters as well. You better refrain from bare urls and expand in full for easy checking by reviewers. I congratulate you for your first article and wish you happy editing. Proposed deletion of Istanbul International Music Festival

[edit]

The article Istanbul International Music Festival has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of notability, borderline A7 speedy deletion candidate. No independent coverage, content not verifiable, somewhat spammy. Nothing helpful found via Google.

Women in sports

[edit]

Hi. I was working on the articles of some Turkish female basketball players and Turkish female volleyball players and I noticed there are so many notable Turkish women in these sports. Maybe some List Articles like 'List of Turkish female basketball players' could be helpful. I would do it myself but don't even have the necessary Turkish letters on my keyboard and I am not so computer-friendly, to say the truth. For a person who has much more proficiency in computing and the internet, like yourself, this homework could be as easy as drinking a glass of Turkish tea. Cheers. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 11:25, 14 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Now that I see the DYK announcement above, maybe you could later make a DYK on the success stories of the Turkish women basketball and volleyball players, like 'Did you know Turkish women teams got this many volleyball championships' etc. An idea... --Why should I have a User Name? CeeGee, I pinged you at the nomination back on September 19, but either you missed it or are no longer interested. I wanted to reiterate that the nomination and hook did not run, and that significant issues still remain. If you do wish to pursue the nomination, you'll need to give the close paraphrasing your immediate attention, and post to the nomination page within a couple of days if you can't get to it that soon. Otherwise, I'll have to close the nomination, since it's been over two weeks, and tag the article for close paraphrasing. Please let us know. Many thanks. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:İlkadım Belediyesi logo.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:İlkadım Belediyesi logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 16:57, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Can you find anything on this? There's plenty in google books in Turkish I think. You might find a plot summary on a website which something can be written from it. Saw the film earlier. Notable director, his films are all worth starting I think.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:52, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I also started Tanju Gürsu, if you were born in 1945 you might remember him in the 60s and 70s. Perhaps Nedim Ardoğa could expand that one?♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:33, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I must disappoint you. because he is unknown to me at the moment. I see that he started to appear in movies from the 1960s. At that time I was already in Germany, where I've been from 1962 to 1979. I hope Nedim Ardoğa would be interested in expanding. Best. --CeeGee 18:56, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Dr. Blofeld! Here is a brief text for you translated from Turkish. If you can find a detailed Turkish text I'll try to translate.
The film narrates the story of a young hero, called by everyone as "The Nameless Knight", struggling against an unjust ruler of Bukhara, who tyrannizes his folk. The ruler learns that he will be expecting a divine punishment by getting killed by his own son. He orders the killing of his son as soon as the baby is born. However, the baby survives when the servants take pity on the infant, and abandone him in a basket on the river. When the son grows up, he takes action to fight his father, the ruler.[1]
 Done. --CeeGee 22:15, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, can you find anything in google books on the film here?Dr. Blofeld 22:23, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
