Dear sir, I respect your work, but this must be the lightest stub I've ever seen. It really needs work. May I assist, or do you want to delete this? Bearian (talk) 23:21, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

By all means assist! It's a wiki. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 21:18, 3 February 2021 (UTC).[reply]

A tag has been placed on Captain Tom (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Andrew Brooks

[edit]

Hi, Rich Farmbrough. You created the article Andrew Brooks (scientist) on 8 February; it seems that we already have a rather detailed article on the same person under the title Andrew Brooks, created just a few days earlier. Content-wise your two sentences should be covered by that longer article but maybe the source you stated in your article might be added in that parallel article and Andrew Brooks (scientist) might be kept as a Wikipedia:Redirect. We also have Andrew Brooks (disambiguation) where you added a link to your article, so maybe the other article should be listed there instead and also "What links here" might have to be checked but as far as I can see, apart from that disambig page there is not much that links to your new article. So this looks like a relatively simple case of Wikipedia:Merging. --Proofreader (talk) 19:07, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is odd, I definitely looked for an existing article. Thanks for letting me know, I have made it into a redirect, I would have been fine with you doing the same. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 19:18, 16 February 2021 (UTC).[reply]
Thanks for the quick reaction. Just stumbled across that one while checking the entries in the categories, so I am more into maintenance and only notify authors accordingly. Sometimes you actually even have cases where people with the same name die on the same day, which is why I rather not interfere too much with the articles themselves. So thanks again for fixing that one. --Proofreader (talk) 19:53, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template editor request

[edit]

Hi and sorry for the intrusion, I was looking for an active editor I had noticed around who holds the template editor flag. I am looking to re-boot Wikipedia:WikiProject Country Music and need someone to remove "Inactive" from the {{WikiProject Country Music}} template banner. I would appreciate your help if possible. Troubles(?)

[edit]

This change feels almost "microcosmic" of the article subject. Is there a reason to remove the more generic template and replace with a label discussed (as a point of contention) within the article itself? Guliolopez (talk) 03:11, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Guliolopez Both {{EngvarB}} and {{Use British English}} are very generic, if you feel the need you could fork the {{Use British English}} to {{Use Irish English}}. I doubt if there are a significant number of places where this would make a difference. I am not aware of any words that are spelled differently in formal writing in Irish English compared with other European varieties of English, which is the stated purpose of {{EngvarB}}. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 03:25, 28 February 2021 (UTC).[reply]
Seems I had a hand in this template many years ago. I'll try to use it on Irish articles. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 03:29, 28 February 2021 (UTC).[reply]
Thanks for the follow-up.
For Ireland-related articles (including those on Irish coins, Irish diaspora, Irish institutions and others where the ENGVAR is relatively well-established) it may, as you suggest, be best to use the "Irish English" template.
For Northern Ireland-related articles (including those on The Troubles, County Londonderry, Ulster and others where real-world and project-based contention is relatively well-documented) it may be worth considering whether to swap the generic template for the "British English" template.
While, as you say, there are limited linguistic or spelling differences, the terms "British" and "Irish" sometimes come with cultural and political baggage. Unrelated to spelling. Anyway, I'll get out of your way. Just a heads-up/thought-to-consider I guess... Guliolopez (talk) 03:57, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
