Guideline and policy news

• A request for comment found consensus that incubation as an alternative to deletion should generally only be recommended when draftification is appropriate, namely 1) if the result of a deletion discussion is to draftify; or 2) if the article is newly created.

Technical news

• The filter log now provides links to view diffs of deleted revisions (phab:T261630).

Arbitration

• The 2020 CheckUser and Oversight appointment process has begun. The community consultation period will take place from September 27th to October 7th.
• Following a request for comment, sitting Committee members may not serve on either the Ombuds Commission or the WMF Case Review Committee. The Arbitration Committee passed a motion implementing those results into their procedures.

Miscellaneous

• The Universal Code of Conduct draft is open for community review and comment until October 6th, 2020.
• Office actions may now be appealed to the Interim Trust & Safety Case Review Committee.

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Greg Connors albums

Alice Andrews redirect

I noticed you created Alice Andrews redirect on July 28 of this year. We already have that as a redlink at Arkansas Women's Hall of Fame since 2019, and at Template:Arkansas Women's Hall of Fame. She was never given a middle name by the Hall of Fame 1. What would you suggest? Delete the redirect, perhaps? Make it a redirect to the hall of fame article, which might be a good idea as a kind of placeholder? — Maile (talk) 15:52, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

I have changed the redlinks to link to Alice Andrews (conservationist). If an article is created it can potentially be moved to Alice Andrews with a hat note. Alternatively a hat note can be added to Alice A. Andrews or indeed that article could be moved to Alice Andrews if it would comply with WP:COMMONNAME.

Schloss Stettenfels

Hello, I lived in Schloss Stettenfels as a child 1946 to 1949 as a refugee from East Germany. I just read about the history it mentions nothing about the castle being a refugee center after WW2. Also while living there the US army had huge tents in the moat (Occupying Forces). Is this something left out on purpose? Speedy deletion nomination of Template:Cite ODNB/Sandbox

This is a difficult list to moderate, I have explained on the talk page why. I have considered nominating the page for deletion, since there are constantly people re-adding classics, which are not likely to have the number of sales listed. The Brothers Grimm figures don't seem to based on anything other than a guess, though if we were to count every anthology which includes ne of the stories collected by the Grimms, the total would certainly be very large. The Little Prince claims seem unwarranted, and come from an organisation that solely promotes The Little Prince as a franchise. As for A Tale of Two Cities that is documented in Peter Thonemann's TLS article, which I urge you to read.

Leaving the last example unchallenged as long as we did has resulted in it being replicated in many other publications, and then being re-inserted in our article. I don't want this to be repeated, and will remove clearly incorrect or poorly sourced claims whenever I see them.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

  • Got the Query Builder to create the first simple queries. You can follow along the development from now on on the test system.
  • Preparing regular JSON dumps for Lexemes (phab:T264883)
  • Analyzed a number of queries to the query service together with the WMF search team to better understand what the queries are doing and what further optimizations we can make to the query service and which queries need different systems to answer them.
  • Working on creating and tracking implicit usages of Wikidata descriptions so description changes show up in the watchlist on Wikipedia and co (phab:T265897)
  • Created Extension:WikibaseManifest documentation on MediaWiki.
  • Looking into what would be considered a mismatch when comparing WIkidata's data against another database. This is groundwork for potentially automating this in the future to find potential issues in the data to flag to editors.
