Roller Derby national teams[edit]

Good work on getting the remaining national team articles started; I've gone through and added team logos and colors. Whoever started the New Zealand article used a different template which allows for different info, but not colorboxes; I wonder if trying to retroactively match everyone's infoboxes to standardize the layouts is more trouble than it's worth. For Brasil, I added a mention of the fact that the skaters, while having traditional derby names in their home leagues, skated at World Cup using single nicknames in the manner of soccer players as a homage. I haven't yet found a credible source to that effect, however, and my insertion of this detail, while referencing their team page, might amount to original research, I don't know. Thoughts? I was at the Cup as an announcer, so while I know this fact to be true, I would feel better if I could find a mention of it on DNN or in a news article somewhere. I'm also hoping to be able to add a mention and ideally photo of New Zealand performing the haka at the Cup; this seems noteworthy, but all photos I have found are not licensed for reuse. Heh. I posted a mention in a forum on facebook today noting that all the countries' teams articles were up; and I see that all heck is breaking loose as inexperienced editors are trying to make changes. No worries - it's good that articles are getting attention, and these things usually result in improved articles in the end. Most of the changes seem to be updates to rosters, which is all good. I'll broadly stay hands-off, unless this attracts outright vandalism, and can fix up references, etc, later. Incidentally, which forum was it which attracted so much attention? MSU Interview[edit]

Dear Warofdreams,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. WORD is now defunct, replaced by RDCL[edit]

I've seen that you've edited/created some stuff on WORD (World Organization for Roller Derby).

From what I can see/hear out there, WORD has ceased to exist as an organization (for the most part it has only served as a rule set/tourney organizer in the past). The new organization which many of the former WORD members seem to be making up (sans TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls) is called Roller Derby Coalition of Leagues (RDCL). From what I can pick up on via their web site and the Banked Track News site, the new organization seems to be aimed at being more of a governing body/sanctioning body for banked track derby. More akin to WFTDA than a loose collection of leagues that hold a tournament once per year and tend to use the rules solely at that event. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TimBRoy (talk • contribs) 07:15, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For reasons I can't fathom, it was only noticed today (by an IP) that the 1997 election results at Vauxhall (UK Parliament constituency) were a copy of the preceding or subsequent election. Domesday[edit]

I see that you are entering a useful link to Anna Powell-Smith’s University of Hull’s domesdaymap.co.uk in numerous settlement articles’ ELs, with the "Domesday" element blue-linked. Some articles already have Domesday text with the book blue-linked, and with descriptive Domesday text inline-cited to Smith. Doubling-up blue links in long articles is understandable, but in stubs or starts wouldn’t this be overlinking ? Is there a way of de-blue-linking “Domesday” in the EL tag for when Domesday is already blue-linked? Team USA (roller derby)[edit]

Hi there. All of a sudden, having a content issue at Team USA (roller derby). A handful of skaters have changed leagues since the World Cup, and editors keep changing their league affiliations. Since the reference for the roster relates to the state of the team last year, and references the home teams they were on then, this information should not be changed, but that isn't stopping other editors. Reverted numerous times, and am wondering if you have any bright ideas. I'm going to revert one more time, and post on the talk page, but since these editors are not using summaries and all nearly all new or SPAs, I feel like it's an uphill battle.
