RDAC template[edit]

Hi there, hope you're well - I was considering nominating Template:Roller Derby Association of Canada for deletion, and see you created it, so figured I would run it by you first. RDAC as an org is dormant/kaput - their website hasn't been updated since 2013/2014: [1] and RDAC never reached the same level of importance as say UKRDA, and never achieved its own wiki article. The template itself hasn't been updated since June 2013, and the vast majority of the leagues in the template are redlinked, so its usefulness is limited. So I'm thinking it may not be worth maintaining. Thoughts? Echoedmyron (talk) 00:18, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, at the time it seemed a useful way to categorise leagues, but I think that the organisation grew to incorporate various non-notable leagues and then collapsed, so I think it's best deleted. Warofdreams talk 12:53, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for this. While I'm loathe to delete anything - I don't think in all my years I've ever nominated anything for deletion - it may be best, provided it doesn't lead to other headaches. Echoedmyron (talk) 15:57, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

WFTDA Apprentice Program[edit]

Ugh, this [2] dropped today. Time to revamp WFTDA Apprentice Program I guess ... Echoedmyron (talk) 19:41, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, it'll probably take a while to update properly, so it'll be a while before I look at it, do get stuck in if you fancy it! Warofdreams talk 10:49, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
As of yesterday I've updated all the grads from 2018 onwards, fixed a couple of entries. There's a hidden table that contains possible former member leagues that didn't graduate; when I was updating grads I found a handful of teams that had been apprentice members that aren't mentioned in any of the most recent graduates, so for now I moved such teams to the hidden table to review and sort out later. Unfortunately WFTDA doesn't announce when teams leave the program on their own, so sourcing them will be hard. Now the resulting "former members" table is huge, and contains both graduates and teams that left the program or folded - I am thinking of spinning off a separate table for the latter categories, so we'd have Graduates and Former Members. Also occurs to me that every single source in the article - which is more a list than an article - is from WFTDA, and it would be good to find non-primary sources. And with the Apprentice Program being retired, I suppose it means the template is no longer useful (although perhaps the eventual new "New Member Program" could take over some of these things, depending on how it gets publicized and defined. All things to work on! Echoedmyron (talk) 18:12, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wheatley of Yorkshire[edit]

You have good knowledge of and access to socialist/labour historical records. I am trying to ID an Edwardian postcard I have. It has the picture of a candidate above an over-print stamp 'Vote for Wheatley'. On the back in handwriting it says "with Penistone Sheffield collection". I can't match it to a parliamentary election, so assume it may be municipal. It is not a picture of the Scottish Labour MP. Please let me know if you can ID. Graemp (talk) 14:58, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not aware of any Yorkshire local politicians named Wheatley, and a quick search hasn't turned anyone up. I've got one other idea of somewhere to check, and I'll let you know if I find anyone. Warofdreams talk 15:53, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)[edit]

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

School boards[edit]

Hi, just a quick note. School Board redirects to an article about an American phenomenon. The relevant links for school boards in Britain are School boards in Scotland (sadly lacking in information about the boards established under the Education (Scotland) Act 1872), and School boards in England and Wales. Good work by the way on the trades unionists. DuncanHill (talk) 20:14, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for 1925 London County Council election[edit]

On 17 August 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 1925 London County Council election, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that, following the 1925 London County Council election, the Labour Party became the official opposition for the first time? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/1925 London County Council election. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, 1925 London County Council election), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Organised labour project[edit]

Hi - I noticed you are one of the original members of the organized labour project who is still active (and actively editing labour-related issues). I'm contacting active original members as the project has fallen inactive of late and have a couple of thoughts of getting things moving again:

  • redesign of the project page using the new project x tool - some examples here Wikipedia:WikiProject_X/Dashboard
  • trying to identify editors to focus on regional levels - esp. Africa, MENA and Asia
  • start a newsletter
  • targeted work on gender and unions (eg seeking support from projects on women, feminism, making women blue etc)
  • generalised encouragement of editors involved (eg a Stakhanovite barnstar...not being completely facetious)

Asquith and the Scottish Liberal Federation[edit]

Hi, do you have a citation for H. H. Asquith being President of the Scottish Liberal Federation please? See here and here. Thanks, DuncanHill (talk) 11:17, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Guardian is good for this (and establishes he was president a bit earlier than I previously thought). "Mr Asquith was elected honorary president": "Scottish Liberals and the Coupon", Manchester Guardian, 17 April 1919; "A paragraph is devoted to Mr Asquith's return (he is the Federation's president) and to Sir Donald Maclean's leadership": "Liberal Divisions in Scotland", Manchester Guardian, 30 April 1920; "Mr Asquith was enthusiastically re-elected as president and Sir Donald Maclean as chairman": "Scottish Liberal Federation", Manchester Guardian, 29 April 1922; "Lord Oxford was elected president of the Federation, and Sir John Anthony, chairman, in succession to Donald Maclean": "A Liberal mining policy", Manchester Guardian, 25 April 1925; "The Marquis of Aberdeen was elected president of the Federation in succession to the late Lord Oxford and Asquith", "Scottish Liberal conference", Manchester Guardian, 14 April 1928. Warofdreams talk 11:38, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
And I've now found the start date, much earlier than I suspected: "A letter was read from Mr Asquith, accepting the office of honorary president, previously held by Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman": "Issues at by-elections", Manchester Guardian, 10 February 1909. Sorry, didn't see that in the cats. I've already tagged that and several other articles with the rationale "Article needs to mention and verify that he was a Stormont senator as the categories say". ミラP 01:23, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, when I have time I'll try to find a source which makes his membership of the Senate explicit - the body is remarkably poorly covered - but all the Lord Mayors of Belfast from 1921 to 1973 were senators, that point being made in Harbinson.
