WFTDA Divisions, again[edit]

Sigh. So the Divisions have been restructured again. Have a look at how I have inserted the update at WFTDA Championships, Women's Flat Track Derby Association, Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 1 and Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 2. As I have set up the Division articles and templates to include member teams as of a June 30 rankings update I don't think we need to update any of that stuff until that time, but thought I would run it by you.   • When performing some administrative actions the reason field briefly gave suggestions as text was typed. This change has since been reverted so that issues with the implementation can be addressed. (T34950)
  • Following the latest RfC concluding that Pending Changes 2 should not be used on the English Wikipedia, an RfC closed with consensus to remove the options for using it from the page protection interface, a change which has now been made. (T156448)
  • The Foundation has announced a new community health initiative to combat harassment. This should bring numerous improvements to tools for admins and CheckUsers in 2017.

And then there's this mess[edit]

Hello again! I'm now working my way through updating/improving WFTDA Division 2 league articles - along with founding members of the WFTDA, sometimes it's the same thing! - and have come upon the article for Houston Roller Derby. It's an unholy mess, mostly due to the sporadic inclusion of past team rosters, which occupies more than half the article's size. None of them are sourced, and ideally don't belong here anyway - I've posted a comment on the article's talk page advising that it's going to get removed, and comment is appreciated. I further commented on a couple of talk pages that have previously added these rosters, including which includes the account that created the article. Really I suppose I can just be bold, but felt the right thing to do was post a headsup before I just went and removed all that. Echoedmyron (talk) 23:35, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Paradise City Roller Derby[edit]

Me again, wanted to get your thoughts. At this point, I have now completed going through all the WFTDA Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 1 and Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 2 league articles and have brought them to a reasonable level of consistency and updated them, fleshing out histories and rankings and updated references. There's one last one that is stumping me, Paradise City Roller Derby from Australia. They qualified as a D2 team in 2016, but declined their invitation. They don't have an article, and finding sources to get such an article to pass GNG is nigh on impossible. Part of it is parsing through google results that point you at Paradise Roller Girls of Hawaii, and part of it is the lack of sources in general. Their own website is out of date, I can't even find a regular venue for them, and any press coverage is a passing reference to them being somewhere, I can't even find a general interest article about them, any third-party sources that proves when they formed. I can certainly source basic things to WFTDA and reportage on Derby Central about rankings, WFTDA membership and declining playoffs, but I suspect there's not enough to pass GNG for the article in the first place. Understanding of course that just because they exist doesn't mean they warrant inclusion, it still kills me that we have this one redlink in the D2 template. I'll leave it for now, but given your ability to often make miracles happen in this regard, wanted to get your thoughts. Perhaps there's something I'm missing. Cheers. Good news, I've found some decent sources in the regional press: hosting a tournament, favourites for the same tournament the previous year, looking for a new venue (with a brief team history); from another paper, preparing for a trip to the US, and also an interview on ABC Brisbane. Thanks! It's been a slog, but I'm satisfied with the results, and hopefully it inspires others to stay on top of things; some articles hadn't been touched in over 3 years. I've just created the Paradise City article, didn't actually wind up using the facebook posted image, but it could possibly supplement. In the process hit 10K edits, which is also cool.

Excuse me, Can you help me? My friend AsharaDayne suffered a great injustice over two years ago. I seldom pay attention to English Wikipedia so I just know the Permanent Blocking of him in recent days. He was thought as a puppet of Greekboy12345er6. But this judge was very absurd.

AsharaDayne is Chinese and lives in Fujian Province and he has edited over 39,000 times in Chinese Wikipedia. I can ensusre that he and Greekboy12345er6 are not the same person although he and I both don't know who Greekboy12345er6 is. AsharaDayne is an Anti-stalinist communist and he made an edit war against Ukraine nationalists Ymblanter when he didn't understand the rules of wikipedia. After that he had realized his mistake but Mike V mistakenly judged him as a puppet of Greekboy12345er6 and closured him permanently. 南天星斗 and 伊欧玟 are puppets of him but he didn't violate Puppet policy. I think that Greekboy12345er6 can't be Chinese. Can you check these accounts' Using IP? Please let AsharaDayne can edit his own talk page first? Could you please deblock him?

Your view on copyvio[edit]

You seem to be experienced at Wikimedia questions and this concerns images on Wikicommons. There is currently a discussion on the FAC for Akira Kurosawa which shares several images from Wikicommons with several other editors and articles in different Wikipedia articles. One of the editors at FAC has expressed the opinion that copyvio works differently for peer review articles than for regular Wikipedia articles. My point was that copyvio remains copyvio whether for peer review articles or start articles, and once identified then the copyvio would need to be removed regardless if it is found on a peer reviewed article or a start article. Hi John - I've taken a look at this and can see there are some complex concerns regarding the copyright status of some of the images, including aspects of Japanese copyright law in which I don't have any knowledge. The copyvio rules are the same for all articles, but given that they are complicated, sometimes images are uploaded and used in good faith without it being clear that they definitely meet the requirements - part of the FAC process, frustrating as it is, is to check that they definitely are free to use here. Much thanks for looking at this. A new editor has entered the Kurosawa FAC in progress and is re-opening the question of the images used in this Kurosawa article based on WIAFA#3. Given this new information may I ask that, regardless of other editors at Wikipedia currently sharing the images in the Kurosawa article on other Wikipedia pages, that you simply delete any images currently used in the article which are deemed by the current stewards of the FAC page and process to be in any way unsuitable. Since you are familiar with the various complexities of copyvio, could you simply remove the images in the article which you deem the source of the good faith concerns for the integrity of the FAC process by the current stewards of the FAC process? Thanks - I'd looked at creating one before but, amazingly, there was a bit of a shortage of reliable sources on her life. It does highlight difficulties with the Wikipedia definition of notability for a figures like her who clearly are well-known and significant. Thanks for your message - I'm confident that it is public domain in the UK, my understanding is that as it was first published in the UK in 1923, without the creator being identifiable (it will be one of the photographers I've listed, but there is no way of telling which one), copyright expired in 1973. I believe it's also public domain in the U.S., it appears to be under the description of the law here, but the description of the law on Wikimedia Commons creates some uncertainty, so I've only uploaded it here. ArbCom 2017 election voter message[edit]

Hello, Warofdreams. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
