Kash Beauchamp - birth city

Thank you for your concern regarding changing Kash Beauchamp's birth city back to Bartlesville. I happen to be his brother, and we were born in the same hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was not born in Bartlesville, OK. In fact, he only lived there a brief period of time. We mostly grew up in Grove, Oklahoma.

That would constitute original research, which we do not permit here on Wikipedia. Everything must come from a reliable source and be properly cited into the article. Reason being is that anyone can come on to Wikipedia, claim to be someone, and then say "I'm his/her mother/father/spouse/brother/sister/cousin/whatever". Recent software changes

  • All users are now getting pages from servers that run the HHVM tool. HHVM should make pages load faster. [1]
  • You can join a video chat about Phabricator on December 11 at 18:00 (UTC). Phabricator is the new tool to report issues. [2]

Problems

  • There was a problem with Phabricator on November 29. It was due to a network issue. [3]

Software changes this week

  • The new version of MediaWiki (1.25wmf11) has been on test wikis and MediaWiki.org since December 3. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis from December 9. It will be on all Wikipedias from December 10 (calendar). [4]
  • You can now exit VisualEditor by pressing the "Esc" key. [5]
  • It is now easier to use VisualEditor with IMEs. Typing in Malayalam now works better. [6] [7]
  • The new version of OOjs UI fixed many issues with the size and layout of buttons in dialogs. [8] [9] [10]
  • (Lua) You can no longer use mw.text.unstrip to get the HTML from special page transclusion. You can see a list of scripts to fix. [11] [12]

  • Starting next week JavaScript tools won't work if they use jQuery Migrate. [13]

I initially reverted because I didn't see the relation between PointerWare and SoftShell Computers, not because i delighted in having dead links on Wikipedia. A dead link should either be "fixed" with {{Wayback}}, tagged with {{Dead link}}, or fixed. If the company changed names, there should be a source that verifies this. --I am k6ka Talk to me! I am having some trouble with the Man named Leon Williams. He is creating pages on facebook and on all the sites. The United Nation International Pageant was developed in 1996 but not by him. He is not registered or trademarked. His lying and his wikipedia page is completely false. December 2014 GOCE newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors December 2014 Newsletter

Drive: Thanks to everyone who participated in November's Backlog Elimination Drive. Of the 43 people who signed up for this drive, 26 copy edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: The November Drive removed 26 requests from the Requests page and 509 articles from the {{copy edit}} backlog. We copy edited 83 articles tagged in the target months; July, August, and September 2013. Together with tag removals from articles unsuitable for copy editing, we eliminated July 2013 from the backlog and reduced August and September's tags to 61 and 70 respectively. As of 01:01, 1 December 2014 (UTC), the backlog stood at 1,974 articles, dipping below 2,000 for the first time in the Guild's history (see graph at right). Well done everyone!

Blitz: The December Blitz will run from December 14–20 and will focus on articles related to Religion, in recognition of this month's religious holidays in much of the English-speaking world. Awards will be given out to everyone who copy edits at least one of the target articles. Sign up here!

Election time again: The election of coordinators to serve from 1 January to 30 June 2015 is now underway. Candidates can nominate themselves or others from December 01, 00:01 (UTC), until December 15, 23:59. The voting period will run from December 16, 00:01 (UTC), until December 31, 23:59. You can read about coordinators' duties here. Please consider getting involved and remember to cast you vote—it's your Guild and it doesn't organize itself!

@Web PAL: Please see Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. Wikipedia does not create articles to "reward" or "recognize" people. We create articles to report on information that has already been reported on. We don't report on brand new information - encyclopedias are not the sources for that.   • You may see a new tool tested on the mobile site of the English Wikipedia. It asks simple questions to make the article better. In the future, your answers will go to Wikidata. [14]
  • You can watch a video to learn how to use Phabricator to manage projects. [15]
  • You can test a new version of the Content Translation tool.

Software changes this week

VisualEditor newsletter—December 2014

Did you know?

Basic table editing is now available in VisualEditor. You can add and remove rows and columns from existing tables at the click of a button.

The user guide has more information about how to use VisualEditor.

Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team has fixed many bugs and worked on table editing and performance. Their weekly status reports are posted on Mediawiki.org. Upcoming plans are posted at the VisualEditor roadmap.

VisualEditor was deployed to several hundred remaining wikis as an opt-in beta feature at the end of November, except for most Wiktionaries (which depend heavily upon templates) and all Wikisources (which await integration with ProofreadPage).

Recent improvements

Basic support for editing tables is available. You can insert new tables, add and remove rows and columns, set or remove a caption for a table, and merge cells together. To change the contents of a cell, double-click inside it. More features will be added in the coming months. In addition, VisualEditor now ignores broken, invalid rowspan and colspan elements, instead of trying to repair them.

You can now use find and replace in VisualEditor, reachable through the tool menu or by pressing ⌃ Ctrl+F or ⌘ Cmd+F.

You can now create and edit simple <blockquote> paragraphs for quoting and indenting content. This changes a "Paragraph" into a "Block quote".

Some new keyboard sequences can be used to format content. At the start of the line, typing "* " will make the line a bullet list; "1. " or "# " will make it a numbered list; "==" will make it a section heading; ": " will make it a blockquote. If you didn't mean to use these tools, you can press undo to undo the formatting change. There are also two other keyboard sequences: "[[" for opening the link tool, and "{{" for opening the template tool, to help experienced editors. The existing standard keyboard shortcuts, like ⌃ Ctrl+K to open the link editor, still work.

If you add a category that has been redirected, then VisualEditor now adds its target. Categories without description pages show up as red.

You can again create and edit galleries as wikitext code.

Looking ahead

VisualEditor will replace the existing design with a new theme designed by the User Experience group. The new theme will be visible for desktop systems at MediaWiki.org in late December and at other sites early January. (You can see a developer preview of the old "Apex" theme and the new "MediaWiki" one which will replace it.)

The Editing team plans to add auto-fill features for citations in January. Planned changes to the media search dialog will make choosing between possible images easier.

  • The system that displays citations will change in the future. The new system will not change the style of citations. [26]

Seasons Greetings

Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year to you, K6ka. Thanks for the holiday greeting. It is always good to hear from you. I looked for a snappy template for the season but only found the one on the userbox page for greetings. It seemed a little ordinary after seeing yours, so I thought I would just send my greetings.

You were right about Huggle. It is fast but it has drawbacks. I have been unable to load STiki, showing my lack of computer skills. I will give it another try. Huggle finds more problems and allows more reversions but using Twinkle and picking recent changes to view gives more choices and better messages - if you tailor some of them to the individual case. It also gives you a little faster access to the full article and references if you want to check something before making a revert. I suppose switching back and forth and giving up a little speed would be best in terms of quality or informing new users of problems or mistakes. I will use either anti-vandalism program or both for the time being, or STiki if I can get it to work, but a little less often than I have been doing.

I want to do some more content work over the next few months at least because I have noted on my user page a few articles I want to improve in the near future. Right now, real life and holiday activities are limiting my time online but that will not be much of a limitation in a week or two. Donner60 (talk) 00:24, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tokio Hotel

Thank you for reverting my edit to the article Tokio Hotel. I was unaware that my edit was incorrect (rather, I was under the impression that the article had numerous misspellings), as the lead singer, Bill Kaulitz, as well as his accompanying entourage, has long been known to don extravagant attire, drawn from many eras of the fashion industry, including that of the 18th century fop. I believed the band could thusly be considered Fop rock, and that perhaps calling it Pop rock would be a step too far. I am a fan of the fop rock genre, and Tokio Hotel greatly exceeded my expectations, as it is so rare to hear foppish music in its native German tongue, since the deaths of many classical musicians of that order occurred centuries ago. I shall be more mindful in the future, and will promptly be trading in my Tokio Hotel albums for more suitable issues; I believe Falco has a rather jaunty tune in homage to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, which I have yet to hear. Hi K6ka. I appreciate your efforts to remove the spam that has been occurring on the WUSN US99 Wikipedia page. However, the information is still incorrect. The information that should be there is what was posted earlier. I will place it here so that the information can be readded and the subsequent changes by the people responsible for the spam can be removed. The information they keep putting on that page is not correct. A search of the names yields no answer. Even with proper references, they still keep changing it. The code is below:
