Global renamer

Have you considered applying for the meta:global renamer userright? You're certainly qualified for the role, and there already exists 9 other users in the group that do not hold bureaucrat rights on any project, so there is precedent (but be prepared for hesitation since you don't yet hold administrative rights on any project). If you decide to do so, please let me know so I can comment on your request. –xenotalk 14:12, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Xeno: I've thought about it but never really took it seriously until now. I'll do my homework and study the policies before making a request. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 16:52, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Elizabeth Warren Salary

I wanted to ask a question about adding Elizabeth Warren's Harvard salary to the article. I'm not trying to make a point about salary and politics; I think the information should be out there and people can make of it what they like. I looked at two other political figures and I saw that they had their speaking fees noted in their Wikipedia articles, but there wasn't a larger point behind it - it's just information.

I would still like to add the salary information. There is plenty of documentation for it and, as I mentioned in an earlier post on the Elizabeth Warren talk page, there's no campaign going on so it's not going to be used for political hay. What do you think? 73.25.235.169 (talk) 03:35, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Politics doesn't concern me. The issue here is whether this information is worth mentioning in the article (see WP:Handling trivia). Since Wikipedia is so vast and broad, what can be considered "worth including" and "not worth including" is vague and a matter of debate (which is why we have talk pages to discuss things like this). I won't revert you if you add the information to the article, but someone else might. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 03:50, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

ManpasandBeverages name change

Hi, I have tried multiple times to change the username. my questins are as below 1. if I change the username to some ordinary username, will that impact on the headline of the article? as Manpasand Beverages Ltd 2. I do not have any intention to vandalise and/or marketing promotion on wikipedia, I just came across lot of articles on different beverages companies on wikipedia and wanted to do same for this beverage company. what would be the best option 3. If i change username to some ordinary name then how can I keep the name of the article Manpasand Beverages ?

I would be highly obliged if you could help me out. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by ManpasandBeveragesLtd (talkcontribs) 05:48, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@M0615Sip:
  1. No, it will not affect the title of your article unless you were developing it in your userspace. Since you are developing it outside your userspace and in the drafts namespace, the title will not be affected. Even if you were developing the article in your userspace, the title of the article is not finalized and you can change it when you copy your article and move it into the article namespace.
  2. If you are affiliated or have connections with this company, please review our policy on conflict of interest and the neutral point of view policy. Otherwise, feel free to follow the instructions at the Your First Article page to see if your article and subject is eligible for Wikipedia.
  3. Already answered in no. 1

VisualEditor News #3—2015

Did you know?

When you click on a link to an article, you now see more information:

Screenshot showing the link tool's context menu

The link tool has been re-designed:

Screenshot of the link inspector

There are separate tabs for linking to internal and external pages.

The user guide has more information about how to use VisualEditor.

Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team has created new interfaces for the link and citation tools, as well as fixing many bugs and changing some elements of the design. Some of these bugs affected users of VisualEditor on mobile devices. Status reports are posted on Mediawiki.org. The worklist for April through June is available in Phabricator.

A test of VisualEditor's effect on new editors at the English Wikipedia has just completed the first phase. During this test, half of newly registered editors had VisualEditor automatically enabled, and half did not. The main goal of the study is to learn which group was more likely to save an edit and to make productive, unreverted edits. Initial results will be posted at Meta later this month.

Recent improvements

Auto-fill features for citations are available at a few Wikipedias through the citoid service. Citoid takes a URL or DOI for a reliable source, and returns a pre-filled, pre-formatted bibliographic citation. If Citoid is enabled on your wiki, then the design of the citation workflow changed during May. All citations are now created inside a single tool. Inside that tool, choose the tab you want (⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-auto⧽, ⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-manual⧽, or ⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-reuse⧽). The cite button is now labeled with the word "⧼visualeditor-toolbar-cite-label⧽" rather than a book icon, and the autofill citation dialog now has a more meaningful label, "⧼Citoid-citeFromIDDialog-lookup-button⧽", for the submit button.

The link tool has been redesigned based on feedback from Wikipedia editors and user testing. It now has two separate sections: one for links to articles and one for external links. When you select a link, its pop-up context menu shows the name of the linked page, a thumbnail image from the linked page, Wikidata's description, and/or appropriate icons for disambiguation pages, redirect pages and empty pages. Search results have been reduced to the first five pages. Several bugs were fixed, including a dark highlight that appeared over the first match in the link inspector (T98085).

The special character inserter in VisualEditor now uses the same special character list as the wikitext editor. Admins at each wiki can also create a custom section for frequently used characters at the top of the list. Please read the instructions for customizing the list at mediawiki.org. Also, there is now a tooltip to describing each character in the special character inserter (T70425).

Several improvements have been made to templates. When you search for a template to insert, the list of results now contains descriptions of the templates. The parameter list inside the template dialog now remains open after inserting a parameter from the list, so that users don’t need to click on "⧼visualeditor-dialog-transclusion-add-param⧽" each time they want to add another parameter (T95696). The team added a new property for TemplateData, "Example", for template parameters. This optional, translatable property will show up when there is text describing how to use that parameter (T53049).

The design of the main toolbar and several other elements have changed slightly, to be consistent with the MediaWiki theme. In the Vector skin, individual items in the menu are separated visually by pale gray bars. Buttons and menus on the toolbar can now contain both an icon and a text label, rather than just one or the other. This new design feature is being used for the cite button on wikis where the Citoid service is enabled.

The team has released a long-desired improvement to the handling of non-existent images. If a non-existent image is linked in an article, then it is now visible in VisualEditor and can be selected, edited, replaced, or removed.

Let's work together

  • Share your ideas and ask questions at mw:VisualEditor/Feedback.
  • The weekly task triage meetings continue to be open to volunteers, each Wednesday at 12:00 (noon) PDT (19:00 UTC). Learn how to join the meetings and how to nominate bugs at mw:Talk:VisualEditor/Portal. You do not need to attend the meeting to nominate a bug for consideration as a Q4 blocker. Instead, go to Phabricator and "associate" the Editing team's Q4 blocker project with the bug.
  • If your Wikivoyage, Wikibooks, Wikiversity, or other community wants to have VisualEditor made available by default to contributors, then please contact James Forrester.
  • If you would like to request the Citoid automatic reference feature for your wiki, please post a request in the Citoid project on Phabricator. Include links to the TemplateData for the most important citation templates on your wiki.

Diet Traditionally, the Nairs were not strict vegetarians, but included fish in their diet, though this was shunned by the higher classes. The love for fish was noted as so strong that it was "often smuggled in." Working class Nair favoured kānji (rice gruel), as did many Malabar Hindus.[106] Pork was also noted as one of their favourite foods,[107] and even high-status Nairs were noted as eating buffalo meat.[108] Proscriptions

A 16th-century writer noted that drinking was unknown in Travancore at that time, but in 1787 AD the Maharaja formally prohibited takara (palm brandy) under pain of forfeiture of property.[106] The Nayar avoided beef, and many did not eat lamb.[109] In the modern day, alcohol is a component of Nair-dominated festivals in Kerala.[108] During the pre-Independence era, consumption of beef and alcohol was strictly prohibited and doing so often resulted in violence or excommunication.[110][page needed]

In Nair Families still Beef and Alcohol is banned please remove below points

Competitive examination

Hello K6ka, you did a favor of undoing my edit on Competitive examination. I think the tone of the article is not fitting for Wikipedia. The information about France and that it is "surely" the most difficult one in the world regarding competitive exams are also not accurate. I personally think that the entire content of this article can be merged with entrance examination. peace Sedai2014 (talk) 23:04, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Sedai2014: Hi. You've reached the wrong place for issues like this. Discussion relating to article content should go on an article talk page. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 23:09, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I already said the same thing there, did you check the article talk page before undoing my edit? Sedai2014 (talk) 00:28, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you know what your edit to the article consisted of, so here's the diff. You didn't actually make any changes to the article, but you only added <nowiki>Insert non-formatted text here</nowiki> to the page. There was no actual content being added, only something that shouldn't be on the page. Why would I need to check the talk page before removing that? --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 00:36, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
well, this article does not meet the criteria for a wikipedia article (I already explained why), that's what I wanted to express by inserting that sign. If you think so too, put the sign back or just advice on how to proceed. If you think the article is in a good shape per se, forget about this conversation and enjoy the rest of the day :)Sedai2014 (talk) 18:24, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't express anything with that edit, other than the fact it had to (and could) be reverted. Simply put, that isn't the way you draw attention to an issue. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 19:16, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please help if you can see fit...

Hi K6Ka,

I was greatly relieved for your help preventing continuous blanking over on Talk:Sons of Liberty. Thank you for that. As it turns out, and as a result, I'm under a bit of a siege over on [20]. I've been trying to defend myself against bullying by User:Beyond My Ken there, but he seems to be having some success gaining traction with some false accusations against me -- that I'm a sock for a disruptive editor half way around the world from me. Anyway, if you could take a look at the AFI page and maybe help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again.

Thanks for your help on International Trademark Association's page. I'm confused about the copyright violation - we are trying to make this Wiki page correct and up to date. Can you help me upload the information that it is not rejected? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lheery (talkcontribs) 20:54, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Lheery: I'm not sure exactly what you are requesting. Your edit was reverted because it was simply copied and pasted from another website. This can cause legal issues, and thus Wikipedia forbids copyright violations. See our policy on copyright violations. In order for a change to be accepted, they must be written in an encyclopedic tone (i.e. no bias or fancruft), should generally not be written by anyone with a conflict of interest, and should never be simply copied-and-pasted from another source, as mentioned above.
Also, if you want to reply to a thread (such as this one), click on the "Edit" button next to the section title and respond from there, instead of creating an entire new thread (this will cause disorganization and clutter). Please also sign your posts by adding four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 21:09, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
