Alteration of user groups

I have removed your membership in the "autpatrolled" group. This is not because you have misused it by creating problematic pages but rather because the admin who granted it seems to have done so out some misguided belief that you needed it when you clearly do not. I have noted as much in your log and hope you understand that this is not a comment on your work here, it simply appears that an admin granted you a user right that you did not need and should not have had. Since I have nothing better to do than put a big blue box on your talk page, allow me to use it to impart the words of wisdom
I received from the puppy after my RFA passed – almost ten long, sordid, why-didn't-I-find-a-better-hobby years ago:

Remember you will always protect the wrong version. (I got nothing here. It's inevitable.)
Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. Without exception, you will pick the wrong one to do. (See #5.)
Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll. (You'll attract many more of those now, because mop. They must like to drink the dirty water in the bucket.)
Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block, because really, what else is there to live for?
Remember that when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
It will not be a personal attack because we are admins and, therefore, we are all rouge anyway.
Finally, remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Recent changes

You can now use datasets on Commons. You can see an example that is using this source. [1]
There is a new opt-in beta feature of a wikitext mode for the visual editor. You can try it out.
When you update a page with translations on wikis with the Translate extension the existing translations will be marked as outdated instead of removed. [2]
The new version of MediaWiki was released to all wikis last week (calendar).
MoodBar has been removed from the Wikimedia wikis. [3]
The live option for the Tipsy notice tool has been removed. Gadgets and user scripts which use it need to be updated. [4]

Problems

Editors who use Firefox 50 might get logged out or fail to save their edits. This is because of a browser bug. Until this is fixed you can enter about:config in the address bar and set network.cookie.maxPerHost to 5000. Firefox 50 is the current version of the Firefox. [5]

Problems

video2commons was down for two weeks. This was because of a problem with Commons video transcoders. It is now back up. [7]

Changes this week

There is a new magic word called {{PAGELANGUAGE}}. It returns the language of the page you are at. This can be used on wikis with more than one language to make it easier for translators. [8]
When an admin blocks a user or deletes or protects a page they give a reason why. They can now get suggestions when they write. The suggestions will be based on the messages in the dropdown menu. [9]
You will be able to use <chem> to write chemical formulas. Before you could use <ce>. <ce> should be replaced by <chem>. [10]
You now can add exceptions for categories which shouldn't be shown on Special:UncategorizedCategories. The list is at MediaWiki:Uncategorized-categories-exceptionlist. [11]
The "Columns" and "Rows" settings will be removed from the Editing tab in Preferences. If you wish to keep what the "Rows" setting did you can add this code to your personal CSS: #wpTextbox1 { height: 50em; } You can change the number 50 to make it look like you want to. [12]
Sometimes edits in MediaWiki by mistake are shown coming from private IP addresses such as 127.0.0.1. Edits and other contributions logged to these IP addresses will be blocked and shown the reason from MediaWiki:Softblockrangesreason. This should not affect most users. Bots and other tools running on Wikimedia Labs, including Tool Labs will receive a "blocked" error if they try to edit without being logged in. [13]
When you edit with the visual editor categories will be on the top of the page options menu. [14]
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 17 January. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 18 January. It will be on all wikis from 19 January (calendar).

Articles on Wikipedia aren't "owned" by anyone, so no one person has complete or total control about what happens to that article; this includes the subject of the article itself, if the article is about a living person. That being said, if you have concerns about the article, please see this page for guidance. In all cases you may post your concerns on the article's talk page for other editors to see and comment on. Our goal to add filters to the Recent Changes page is going well. We will contact soon some communities - the ones where ORES is available as a Beta feature - to plan a possible trial.

Revert notifications were not received on Wikidata. This is now fixed. [15]

We plan to change Flow's URLs to make them more human readable. Your feedback is welcome.
Communities which have allowed Flow trials with manual enabling (Hebrew Wikipedia, Persian Wikipedia, Arabic Wikipedia) will be asked if they want to switch to Beta feature activation. [16]
A small maintenance on Flow database will happen during week 4. No impact is expected. [17]

SnilyDoe, your request was closed on 11 August 2015 because you failed to respond to it in time. In addition, it would appear that the username you requested was created almost a year after your request was closed, so your request unfortunately cannot be processed. I appreciate your diligence in monitoring vandalism on Wikipedia. I am a professor at Xavier University of Louisiana and am teaching two courses with Wikipedia. In one of these courses, Freshman Seminar, the students are testing boundaries and decided to contribute fake information to Angela Davis's page in attempt to prove their point that Wikipedia isn't reliable. Changes this week

ElectronPdfService will be enabled by default on Meta and German Wikipedia. This is a new way to get articles as PDF files you can download. It will come to more wikis later. [20]
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from January 31. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from February 1. It will be on all wikis from February 2 (calendar).

Future changes

The Community Tech team will develop more tools to handle harassment of Wikimedia editors. The goal is to give the communities better tools to find, report and evaluate harassment. They will also work on more effective blocking tools. [21][22]
The Wikimedia technical community is doing a Developer Wishlist survey. Developers can propose ideas before 31 January 23:59 UTC. This is soon.

User:RobertPelloni

Hi K6ka. You did a username change for RobertPelloni per his request. Do you think WP:REALNAME is an issue here? The user states he is the same "Robert Pelloni" who designed Bob's Game. He also has a tendency to edit articles he as a COI with. So, it might not be too long before some else notices the similarity between username and real person and tags as a possible problem. Is there a way for Pelloni to verify he is who he says he is to avoid any misunderstandings? Thanks in advance. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:45, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
